Farewell Alias

My therapist has prepared me for months, but I’m still not ready to say goodbye to Sydney and Jack Bristow, Michael Vaughn, Dixon, Marshall, Sloane, Tom and Rachel…aw, who am I kidding, I’m so ready to say goodbye to Tom and Rachel. But tonight is the series finale of Alias, and as a diehard from Day One, I’m sad to see the it leave. I’ll be the first to admit that the show has declined among the weight of the ridiculous Rimbaldi mystery, but Alias set a new stage for the action-drama, and it has definitely had an impact of TV as we know it today.
Do you think we would have Lost without Alias? No way. There is no way that a network would have agreed to do a complex show like Lost if it was created by the guy whose main credit to date had been Felicity. It was Alias that made JJ Abrams the powerhouse that he is today. MI:III, Lost, hell, even What About Brian would not have had the greenlight if it wasn’t for Alias.
Sydney Bristow is and always will be one of the strongest female characters ever to grace the small screen. The strength that Jennifer Garner brought to Syndey, mixed with Syd’s vulnerability made her one of the best fictional heroines of all time. And man could that girl kick a little ass.
Alias will go down as one of my favorite shows…EVER, and tonight I will watch sadly as this era ends.
I’m sorry I can’t give this show the send off is deserves, but I have to run to a day full of meetings.
TV Best Kiss?

The longing, the anticipation, the moment. Why are kisses between our favorite TV couples so powerful? A recent Chicago Sun Times article explored this issue a bit after seeing and feeling the impact of Jim & Pam’s kiss on the season finale of The Office.
When Jim kissed Pam during the season finale of NBC’s “The Office” earlier this month, fans of the show were thrilled.
It’s been obvious to even latecomers to the show, which just finished its second season, that Pam, a receptionist, and Jim, a paper salesman, had developed strong feelings for each other. But Pam remains loyal to her fiance Roy, who’s portrayed as a close-minded clod who seems insensitive to what Pam wants or thinks. So the friendship between Jim and Pam had remained frustratingly platonic — until cute, sweet Jim tearfully declares that he is in love with her and kisses her. (Then the season ends. Sigh.)
That kiss was the talk of many workplaces the next day. NBC’s online message board was filled with gushing fans. “I couldn’t breathe when Jim told Pam ‘I love you.’ That line, and the kiss took my breath away and brought tears to my eyes,” one viewer wrote. Another viewer said: “I liked Ross and Rachel [from ‘Friends’] … but come on, they don’t even compare to Jim and Pam.”
In the movies, you get two or three hours to care about a character. With TV, you get weeks or years of build-up. What is it about small-screen kisses? Why do make-believe characters — yes, these people do not exist — make us grab our hankies in ways real people don’t? Do we get this worked up if, for example, a single friend or co-worker told us that her date kissed her last night? Probably not.
“We’ve invested so much in these characters,” says Jaimee Zanzinger, US Weekly’s TV editor, who lists last week’s “Grey’s Anatomy” kiss between Dr. McDreamy and Meredith Grey among her favorites.
“We’re able to hear their innermost thoughts, see the longing looks they’re giving each other — it’s almost like we’re living the experience with them … if your friend tells you about [their first] kiss, it’s not the same. You don’t get to experience the same emotions and the visceral element isn’t there.”
And, kisses are prettier on TV — no awkward bumping teeth or noses, she adds.
The article asks their readers to submit their favorite TV kisses. Making the cut in the Chicago Sun Times list were Kevin and Winnie from The Wonder Years, Sam and Diane from Cheers, and Logan and Veronica’s first kiss on Veronica Mars.
So what’s your favorite TV kiss, any why? Think about it…what made the kiss so special? Share your thoughts with other GMMR readers either here, or in the TV’s Best Kiss section of the GMMR Forums.
American Idol’s Jennifer Hudson Stars in “Dreamgirls”

I’m not sure how this one completely slipped by me, but I just moments of go found out that former American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson has the lead role in the upcoming motion picture version of “Dreamgirls“. With all the type surrounding Jamie Foxx and Beyonce, I never realized that my girl Jennifer was playing the legendary role of Effie White. This role, which was made famous on Broadway be the legendary Jennifer Holliday, was rumored to be going to American Idol winner Fantasia Barino. But in the end it was Jennifer’s soulful and crazy powerful voice who took the role.
Maybe this is old, old news to many of you, but it’s news to me so I thought I was pass it along. I really loved Jennifer Hudson on AI, and thought she was dismissed way too early. Now I have another exciting reason to see Dreamgirls when it hits the theaters in December (besides John Krasinski’s minor role).

You’ve got to be kidding me! People magazine is conducting a “who would you date” poll, and they make us choose between Michael Vartan (Alias) and Bradley Cooper (Alias, Wedding Crashers). And get this, “both” was not even an option. That’s just cruel. Click on the picture to vote now. And leave a comment to let me know who you voted for.
Michael Muhney is a Lamb

Yeah, Sheriff Don Lamb may be a bit of a prick, ya know…mocking Veronica after her rape, and arresting Weevil in the middle of his graduation, but Michael Muhney who plays Sheriff Lamb is a sweetheart. Still on my high from meeting Jason and Enrico this morning, I was so happy to check my email and see this notefrom Michael. I hope he doesn’t mind me posting it, but it was so damn sweet!!!
Just wanted to drop a line and say “hello” and I checked out your site on a recommendation. I wanted to say that I love your support of our show and it’s cool knowing we have such loyal fans out there. Even though I’ll be signing a contract as a series regular on VMars, it doesn’t change how low our budget is, so I will be sending you my driver’s license picture and you can post it if you’d like…we need more money for publicity, wouldn’t you say?
xoxoxo
michael muhney
I love that Lamb is going to be a series regular next season. I would really love to know a little more him, and what’s behind his insidious acts.
And yes, I’ve asked Michael to send along his driver’s license picture, so hopefully we’ll be seeing that soon..ha ha!!

I’m not sure if Jenna Fischer (Pam) and Angela Kinsey (Angela) could be any cuter if they tried. Watch the clip to hear Angela and Pam dish on the kiss, Jim’s single tear, and who is coming back to the show in full force next year. Warning, if you are a complete spoiler virgin, you might not want to watch the clip, as Jenna speculates on what’s going to happen with TV’s hottest love triangle.

I’ve gone almost four days without posting anything on The Office. 4 days!! Can you believe it?! Well for all you Krasinski fans out there, you have got to check out this video of our boy being interviewed by Kristin Veitch. I love Kristin and all, but seriously, step away from The Halpert. John is more adorable than ever, if that’s possible. Oh, and John, if I ever get to meet you, I want a hug like you gave Kristin.

Leavin NYC, But One More Celeb Sighting Before I Go

What a trip this has been. I don’t think I have every enjoyed a business meeting more!! Just wanted to update you all on one last celeb sighting I had today. I’m in the airport right now, and I was just picking up the latest issue of TV Guide Maagzine when I realized that Earl himself, Jason Lee, was standing next to me. I forgot how hot that guy is when he’s not sporting Earl’s hideous hair and awful mustache. Jason Lee is working a full beard, and he looked good.
Alias Recap: No Hard Feelings

Sorry I’m so late in posting the Alias recap from last night. Julie was kind enough to send it along this morning, but since I’m still traveling on business, I didn’t get the chance to post it until now.
That being said, Julie did say she was a little tired while doing the recap and asked me to check it out before posting. Problem is, I haven’t seen the episode, so I can’t read Julie’s recap until later tonight. So here it is…I’m sure it’s fantastic (as all of Julie’s recaps always are), but if there are some typos or something, I know you will forgive us 🙂
Alias 5/17 – “No Hard Feelings”
Note from Julie, probably meant for me, but it was so damn funny I had to include it: “…By the way, as to this episode’s title? I can’t really hear the phrase “no hard feelings” anymore without immediately following it up in my head with “naw, she gave me a few”. Damn you, Dick Casablancas, and your mad quotability!”
Jack convinces the rest of the APO’ers not to let anyone know Syd has infiltrated Prophet Five as Anna. They call Vaughn and arrange to get the info from the bunker transferred to APO. Marshall tells Vaughn he cried at Vaughn’s funeral. “I need a good cry now and again.”
Meanwhile, Syd-as-Anna-as-Syd (confused yet?) and Peyton talk in the limo. When Syd mentions the importance of the half-chip she retrieved, Peyton says it’s irrelevant–a nuisance–and drops it into a glass of celebratory champagne. Too bad for the APO’ers, who were using a tracking device on the chip to follow Syd. When they lose her, Vaughn is unhappy. He hops in his car, has Marshall clear him a way, and follows Syd to the airport to give her a cellphone.
Sloane reports that the translation of Page 47 is done, and the circle will be complete “when the chosen one finds the rose in San Cielo”. Cryptic to viewers, maybe, but Sloane seems to know how to proceed. He is concerned that Anna-as-Syd might not be able to fill in as the chosen one. Yeah…not sure even Rambaldi could have predicted and written of a plot this convoluted. Syd arrives and tells Sloane Syd’s dead. He doesn’t exactly burst into tears.
Sloane tells Syd she needs to retrieve an artifact from a monastery at San Cielo, near Rome. Syd’s remarkably snarky when she’s pretending to be Anna. It’s sort of disarming and enjoyable–for viewers anyway, Sloane doesn’t seem to be digging it.
Celebrity Sightings….JACKPOT!!!

How did you start off your morning? Maybe a little coffee, a bagel? You know how I started off my morning…by chatting it up with JASON DOHRING and ENRICO COLANTONI!!! Yeah, you could say I’m having a good day!!
As expected, they both unbelievably nice and sweet. I reminded Jason that he and I talked on the phone before and he totally remembered me, which of course was awesome. I couldn’t have Keith Mars and Logan Echolls in the same room and not take a picture, but I only had my cell phone with me. In the pic and Jason and I, we were laughing because Enrico couldn’t figure out how to take the pic. But when it was Jason’s turn, well he had some issue too. I guess my phone is too complicated for the boys of Neptune. Oh, and wouldn’t you know it, I look like hell, so please excuse the bad pic. I figured I was just going to a client meeting so I didn’t bother to really do anything with myself. Had I known I would run into Jason and Enrico might have at least done my hair.
So there isn’t much scoop. Enrico explained the hockey playoffs to Jason and I, which was adorable since Jason didn’t really get the whole playoffs scenario. Enrico continued with his paper while Jason and I continued our conversation. God, he is really so nice.
They left about 10 minutes ago, and I am still shaking a bit. Good day….good day.
UPDATE: Someone sent me an email earlier today and commented on how different Jason Dohring looks from Logan Echolls, and I just wanted to say, as weird is that sounds, I 100% agree. Having had the pleasure of meeting Jason twice now, I get the sense that Jason and Logan are very different. Jason is much more reserved, and more soft spoken than Logan and I think that somehow makes them look different physically. Logan is just so intense all the time, where Jason is really chilled (not that we are friends, it’s merely an observation.) Anyway, I thought it was an interesting point and I wanted to comment.
P.S. The whole CW crew looks amazing for the upfronts. Alexis Bledel is wearing a gorgeous white black and white dress. Luke, Christopher and Richard shared a little coffee together. The boys of Supernatural looked HOT. And Kristen Bell and her boy just walked by. She has a cute little white shawl/sweater and jeans. I wish I could grab a picture with her but I don’t want to disturb her.
Ok, I seriouslyt have to get back to work now. More later!!!!

My girl Kelly is back again with some more EXCLUSIVE pics from the upfronts. Tonight she hung with some with some of the new faces of CBS. We might not know a ton about these shows, or all of the actors, but we could be looking at the next BIG show.
Right now Kelly is trying to figure out what she’s going to wear to the CW upfronts tomorrow. I’m trying to figure out how to kill her in her sleep so I can take her tickets. Yep, while I’m at a meeting, she’s going to be hanging with Veronica Mars and Logan Echolls. She promised that she would do her best to take pics with the cast. Of course, I’ll pass on the pics once I get them.
Kelly (the chick that always has a drink in her hand) and the cast of “The Class”
Kelly and the cast of “Smith” starring Ray Liotta and Virgina Madsen

On the Look Out in NYC…Celebrity Sightings (UPDATE)

So I’m in NYC, and I’m keeping my eyes peeled for any of our TV faves that may be in town for the netwwork upfronts. I got to my fab stalking location, and within 2 minutes of sitting down I saw my first who’s who in TV. Keep checking back for updates, and let’s hope I see a few more noteworthy peeps.
First sighting: Edward Herrmann (Richard Gilmore) of Gilmore Girls. Richards is sporting today’s hottest fashions. Ha ha. Actually he’s wearing jeans, a nice brown jacket and abaseball cap. He walked right by me, and I almost smiled directly at him. I’m going to try my best not to dork out too much. I love Richard Gilmore, but I’m holding out other CW newbies. Cough*Jason Dohring*Cough.
UPDATE: OMG OMG OMG!!! Just ran into Veronica Mars herself, Kristen Bell!!! I was coming in the door as she was exiting. I was a little taken back and couldn’t really manage to say anything other than “Congratulations Kristen” She said a very sweet thank you. And boys, she looked HOT in some black leggings. That girl has to have the best skin in all of Hollywood. Ok, that’s two CWers..where is JD?!
UPDATE:Today is a GOOD day…Scott Patterson (Luke) from Gilmore Girls is here too. Oh, and in walks Jared Padalecki (Supernatural). That guy is hot. I swear I am not making this up!! Damn…this is so much fun.
UPDATE: I just spied my first Logan of the day!!! Not Echolls, but the other Logan…Logan Huntzberger. Matt Czuchry!! I can’t keep up with all the pics because my computer is a bit slow right now.
UPDATE: It’s a Gilmore Girls kinda day. Christopher (David Sutcliffe) just walked in. Luke and Christopher…together. Uh oh. Should I tell Luke about Chris and Lorelai?!
UPDATE: Ladies and gentleman….a round of applause for Rory Gilmore!! Yes, Alexis Bledel is in the building, but sadly Milo is not with her. This is so dumb, but why am I so surprised that all these people are just walking in buy themselves…no entourage. Not that I expected Rory to have a posse, but it’s just so weird to see her by herself. God, Jason Dohring…where are you?!
EXCLUSIVE Pics from Inside the ABC Upfronts – Grey’s Anatomy & What About Brian?

So remember earlier today when I was pouting that my friend Kelly has been attending all the Upfront shindigs while I’ve been stuck here in Boston? Well, I’m still pouting, but at least I can put while looking at the hot men of Grey’s Anatomy. Kelly just sent along some EXCLUSIVE pics from inside the ABC Upfront party tonight. Man, I am so jealous that she got to be that close to McDreamy, George and Alex. Hot damn!!! She also got to hang with the cast of What About Brian. I have a girl crush on Sarah Lancaster so I was excited for these pics too.
Um, can I just say how ADORBS TR Knight looks with his bright blue hair. I’m hoping to get the story behind the hair from Kelly tomorrow, but I think it’s a left over from his Sesame Street gig. I’m actually hoping to get a lot more juicy details of the night from Kelly since I’m crashing at her place in the Big Apple tomorrow night. Oh wait, Kelly is leaving Jules and I at home to attend the CBS upfronts. Bitch!!!
Since I’m traveling tomorrow, you won’t be hearing from me much. But don’t worry, I’ll be stalking the TV stars as best I can. Krasinski may be gone, but rumor has it that Jason Dohring and Kristen Bell are in town for The CW presentations tomorrow. I’ll keep my eyes open for ya.
Feel free to link to this post, but please don’t take any of the pictures as they are my friend’s personal pictures and I’m not sure she and her friends want their mug all over the internet.
Katharine McPhee or Taylor Hicks Will Win American Idol
May 16, 2006 by Kath Skerry
Filed under American Idol, American Idol Recap, Reality TV, TV News
After tomorrow night, we will be down to the finale two contestants on American Idol. As much as I love his voice, I think Mr. Elliott Yamin is going to be leaving us. Simon was right when telling Elliott that despite his incredible voice, his songs choices never connected with the audience. That’s been one of Elliott’s issues throughout. But you can’t deny his voice. I hope someone recognizes his talent and gives him a record deal, because he’s more talented than most people with recording contracts out there today. Just listen to the radio for a bit and you will see what I mean.
So with my prediction that Elliott will get the boot, I’m looking at Katharine McPhee and Taylor Hicks making it to the grand finale. Both gave incredibly strong performances tonight.
Katharine McPhee was ‘thisclose’ to a perfect performance with her rendition of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. She got points off for sitting on that damn floor again. Stand up already!!! And there was one note that almost ruined it for me. Well, it wasn’t a note as much it was a word…”heard”. In a split moment, Katharine got nervous and forgot to apply the melody to the word. It came out nasty, and punctuated. If she didn’t completely rock the rest of the song, that might have been it for me and Kat. But she did rock it. It was probably the best performance of the whole competition from a singing perspective. It was simple and beautiful and it suited Katharine’s voice perfectly. I got chills hearing her sing.
And then there was my Taylor. Sweet Taylor, oh how I want you to win next week. I voted for you a few times already, but I’ll be honest, you didn’t win 100% of my votes tonight. Sorry, but Kat outsang you a bit and she couldn’t be left was in the dark. Speaking of “dark”, Taylor did a nice job with Bruce’s “Dancing in the Dark”. Springsteen is one of my favorite’s of all time, so I’m so glad he didn’t butcher the song, because if he did, well let’s just say that he and I would need to have a little one on one time to work through our issues. Good thing I don’t have to deal with that, right? I was surprised that Simon said Taylor’s rendition of Joe Cocker’s “You’re Beautiful” was the best of his Idol career. I thought some of the notes were a little weak, and I would have loved to hear him break into that very famous falsetto …“to meeeeeee”. But how he brought me back into the Taylor Hicks Love Camp with his take on “Try a Little Tenderness”!!! This song was perfect for Taylor and he f’ing nailed it. If only Jon Cryer was there to jump around the stage with you. And as much as my own DuckyxDale wants Kat to win, I have to imagine that he at least enjoyed that homage to Otis Redding and the original Duckster.
So I’m thinking it’s Katharine McPhee and Taylor Hicks next week. I’ll be watching, and hoping Taylor takes it all. But to be honest, with Chris Daughtry gone (a moment of silence please), I don’t have the same level of passion & excitement that I had for the show last week.
