The Emmys are Here!! The Emmys are Here!!
August 27, 2006 by Kath Skerry
The day has finally come. Sunday, August 27, 2006 – The Emmys. Are you guys as excited as I am? I can’t wait for the red carpet…the glitz…the glam…the cast of Grey’s Anatomy NOT wearing scrubs.
Here in LA the Emmy buzz is palpable. Walk around the city and find clubs prepping for post-parties days in advance. Camera crews and lighting equiptment seems to be everywhere. And you better check with that restaurant before heading out, because most likely they will be closed for a “private event.” A VERY private event.
Maybe it’s just because of this blog, but I really feel that there is more excitement around the Emmys this year, than in years past. Maybe Conan O’Brien was right. Maybe this is the ‘golden age of TV’. I don’t disagree. With all the well written and well acted shows on TV, it’s amazing to think that each category has only one winner. Seriously, I’m not sure I want to live in a world that would make me choose between Arrested Development and The Office for Best Comedy. That’s just not right!!
I’m interested to see if the “sure things” will take home the prize. Yeah, everyone is saying that Grey’s Anatomy and The Office are a lock, but lest we forget about another little awards show called the Oscars and a passed by movie you might have heard of called Brokeback Mountain. Anything can happen. I can’t wait!!!
But wait I will have to. I’d love to live blog tonight’s event, like I try to do most awards show, but here in California, the Emmys aren’t telecast live. So had I been back in Boston, I would know the MINUTE the winner was annouced, but since I am 10 minutes away from the building where the Emmy are being held, I have to wait another 3 hours!! What?! I think the red carpet is being shown live on E! but that means I will have to tear myself away from this beautiful pool (from where I am writing write now) and sit in my dark hotel room. Again, this all seems a bit unfair. ‘So close, yet so far’ – I feel like I need to put it on a t-shirt.
I’ve been pretty vocal about who I want to take home the biz prizes of the evening, but I don’t feel like I have a good sense for who YOU want to win. So drop me a line and let me know. We’ll have a lost to dish about in the morning. I promise to do my best to get online as early as I can so we can chat. I’m feeling a bit guilty for being so MIA during this exciting TV week, but what can you do, vacation is vacation!!
Not sure when I’m going to be able to jump back online, so here’s the Emmy noms one more time (and of course by picks to win).

Yeah,Yeah GMMR!!!!! I can not wait any longer-the next 6 hours are going to be killer….and you have to wait even longer- that must stink….I hope you’re having a good time in LA. It must be fun to see all the prep going on for tonight’s big event!
I hope Steve Carell and The Office both win. I’d like to see Grey’s Anatomy win their categories as well – particularly Sandra Oh. For guest appearance in a drama, I have to pick James Woods. That was a phenomenal performance and that episode made me love ER again. My choice for Lead Actress in a Comedy Series has to be Julia Louis-Dreyfuss. She is hilarious! In the other categories, I either agree with your choices or don’t have a pick I’m passionate about.
Have fun in LA – I can’t wait to hear all the juicy details!
Okay, I did this at the Golden Globes and I can’t recommend it enough. Go to the place where the Emmys are being held as the Emmys are ending and FIND THE BACK ENTRANCE! Because there IS a back entrance, and if the security is anything like it was for the Golden Globes, they won’t mind if you just stand there quietly and admire the dozens and dozens of celebrities as they come out and get in their limos to go to the after parties. Seriously, I was about 20 feet away from the red carpet. At the end of the night, Zach Braff (one of my celebrity boyfriends) came out, and the security guard standing behind us actually encouraged me to call him over (and then he came over and gave me a hug). One of the best nights of my life.
But make sure you take someone with you–we had to walk through a couple of semi-sketchy alleys and a parking garage to find the back entrance. You don’t want to do that alone.
I am also driven slightly mad by the fact that both The Office and Arrested Development can’t win. How is anyone supposed to choose between those two shows?
Hi GMMR – sounds like you’re having a blast in LA! Cannot wait till the Emmys start in a few hours! Well, my picks are:
Comedy – The Office (of course)
Comedy Lead Actor – Steve Carell (of course)
Comedy Lead Actress – Lisa Kudrow
Comedy Supp. Actor – Jeremy Piven
Comedy Supp. Actress – Jaime Pressly
Drama – 24
Drama Lead Actor – Kiefer Sutherland
Drama Lead Actress – Kyra Sedgwick
Drama Supp. Actor – Gregory Itzin
Drama Supp. Actress – Jean Smart
I really think it might be 24’s year, even though Grey’s has been the hot show… so I wouldn’t be surprised, though, if Grey’s took the drama category or if Sandra Oh or Chandra Wilson took Supporting Actress. Can’t wait to see the show and hopefully to see The Office and Steve take home the big prizes!
AD is the only show I’d be okay with The Office losing to. If it lost to Two & A Half Men…that’s the world coming to an end.
OMG…why did steve carell not win…who the FFFFFFFF watches MONK???????? i’m so mad.
I love Monk. Yay for Shaloub! I think Steve should have won as well.
