So much went down in this one, pivotal episode. Yay Pegasus!! (Oh yeah, I finally get all the BSG on ‘The Office’ now – added bonus)

George W. Bush tackles hot button issues such as immigration, the environment, gun control and abortion in his very own sitcom, That’s My Bush!
Conceived during the 2000 presidential campaign, COMEDY CENTRAL’s “That’s My Bush!” launched in April 2001. The series offers a humorous glimpse of life at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in which George W. Bush (played by Timothy Bottoms) must balance the volatile issues of the day with his equally demanding personal life. The series provides a unique take on one of the most traditional American standards, the network sitcom.
“[Parker and Stone] have taken offensiveness to some absurd, delirious, hilarious new level. In the process, the sublime and the ridiculous become indistinguishable. ‘That’s My Bush!’ is tasteless, appalling and funny as hell,” hails Tom Shales from The Washington Post.
The hilarious “That’s My Bush! The Definitive Collection” DVD arrives in stores nationwide on Tuesday, October 24 and will also be available at http://shop.comedycentral.com.
But GMMR is giving away a copy TODAY!! Just email me at info[at]givememyremote[dot]com, with the subject: DVD Giveaway and hopefully you’ll have your very own copy soon!!
“That’s My Bush! The Definitive Collection” DVD is a two disc set featuring all eight episodes with audio commentary from creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and all of the cast members.

Ugly Betty Recap: Fey’s Sleigh Ride

I just finished reading an article about a new TV term that’s emerging, and it’s called TiNo. TiNo is when you TiVo a program with the intent of watching it at a later time. This for me is how I watch Ugly Betty. Don’t get me wrong, I have completely fallen for Betty. The show is funny while maintaing the warmth that makes it unique. But let’s face it…my other two favorite shows are also on Thursday nights, so I can’t watch it all.
This is why it kills me to have Julie’s recap right in front of me and NOT being able to read it. It’s torture. I hope the rest of you cam enjoy without guilt.
Title Fey’s Sleigh Ride
Original Airdate: 10/19/2006
Networking night at Mode, and Amanda and Marc have brought Betty so they can show her around to be mocked and marveled at appropriately by other fashion industry drones. Betty meets “Fat Carol,” a normal-sized woman who shows that you don’t have to be fashionable to be an unfriendly shrew. She also meets Carlo Medina, who works at competing mag Isabella in the same role as Betty.
Carlo tells Betty she’s “a legend” and proceeds to grill her about working for Daniel. Betty’s actually quite complimentary — though not in the version of events Amanda later feeds Daniel as they meet for their nightly tryst.
The next day, it turns out what Betty did and didn’t say to Carlo is quite the hot topic, seeing as the uber-important holiday photo shoot Mode had designed with Vincent Bianchi – a post-apocalyptic Christmas, complete with designer flak jackets, tanks, and a downed Santa statue – has been stolen by none other than Isabella magazine. The models, the sets, the clothes, are all stolen.

The Office Recap: The Initiation

Sometimes TV is just so good that you are still in a good mood the day after the show airs. Such was the case with last night’s episode of The Office. It made me happy, dare I say giddy with joy. BJ Novak wrote a wonderfully full episode that just happened to employ all the aspects that makes The Office the best comedy on TV today.
First off there was the obvious hilarity. Ryan going on a sales call with Dwight is premise enough for some high comedy, but when the trip turns from a business meeting into a hazing ritual that involves beet seeds, a coffin AND Cousin Mose – well that my friends is high comedy.
After temping at Dunder Mifflin for just about a year, Ryan has resigned himself to his fate as a Jr. Sales Associate at a mid-range paper supply firm. Somehow that translates into thinking that Dwight would be a good mentor. Um, have you met Dwight?
In Dwight’s warped mind, Ryan will be a better salesman only after learning some valuable life lessons – all of which Dwight is more than eager to share. Dwight channels his inner Confucius mixed with a little Mr. Miyagi and a whole lot of Schrute to put Ryan through a series of challenge on the Schrute Family Beet Farm.
Dwight: And just as you have planted your seed in the ground, I will plant my seed in you.
Ryan: I don’t think you know what you’re saying.
Dwight: It smells pretty bad doesn’t it?
Ryan: Uh huh
Dwight: It’s called bullcrap, and a client can smell it a mile away
I’m just waiting for a book of Schrute-isms. You’d buy it, right? Exactly.

WTF? NBC to Stop Airing Comedy & Drama in Primetime (UPDATE)
October 19, 2006 by Kath Skerry
OK someone is going to have to jump online and explain this one to me. And I mean QUICK!!! According to this article, NBC President Jeff Zucker has announced that in order to cut operating costs, NBC is considering NOT scheduling scripted dramas or comedies during the 8-9pm time slot. So what will they show? Reality programming and game shows. Again I say, WTF?
Zucker told the Wall Street Journal advertising interest isn’t high enough to justify spending on scripted shows in the first hour of primetime from 8pm so the network may play gameshow Deal or No Deal instead of a struggling drama such as Friday Night Lights.
Deal or No Deal costs about $1.1 million an episode, compared with the $2.6 million it takes to make Friday Night Lights, the Journal reported.
Now, NBC will still run drama and comedy in the remaining two hours of primetime each night, 9pm-11pm.
I really must have misinterpreted this one because I can’t IMAGINE why NBC would do this. What about their historic “Must See TV” platform. Is that completely out the window? And where are favorites like My Name is Earl, Heroes, Friday Night Lights and my beloved The Office going to go? Are they going to go up against the likes of CSI and Grey’s Anatomy? Might as well just cancel them all together.
I’m kind of flipping out right now, so I’m going to head out and try to do a little more research. If I find anything I’ll be sure to come back here and update you all. This is ridiculous!!
UPDATES
Change not likely to affect My Name is Earl or The Office
What do the NBC show creators have to say?
Grey’s Anatomy Star TR Knight Comes Out
October 19, 2006 by Kath Skerry
Another one bites the dust. Just as in true life, all the cutest and most talented men turn out to play for the other team. So is the case for Grey’s Anatomy star TR Knight who plays Dr. George O’Malley, who just today confirmed to People Magazine that he is gay.
“I guess there have been a few questions about my sexuality, and I’d like to quiet any unnecessary rumors that may be out there,” Knight tells PEOPLE in a statement. “While I prefer to keep my personal life private, I hope the fact that I’m gay isn’t the most interesting part of me.”
Nope, actually the fact that TR is gay has no bearing on anything is my book. He rocks the role of the sweet and sensitive doctor, and that has NOTHING to do with his sexuality. I’m just glad he told us, because that’s ONE less TV boyfriend I have to worry about.
30 Rock Recap:

Brian is back with this week’s 30 Rock recap. If you weren’t sure if it was me writing it or Brian, a good clue would be the first sentence: “The Mets deep October run is destroying my TV-watching schedule”..yeah, you’re not really going to hear that coming from a diehard Sox fan. Anyway…thanks Bri for taking on 30 Rock on the with recap. If you missed last night’s show (and forgot to TiVo is like I did, you can watch it online at NBC.com)
————-
The Mets deep October run is destroying my TV-watching schedule and several good nights’ sleep. So thank goodness for DVR for enabling me to bring you this, the second weekly recap of what has a good shot of becoming one of my favorite shows.
I was looking for bigger and better things from the second episode of 30 Rock, NBC’s other SNL-type show, and I was not disappointed. With lots of groundwork to lay, and months and months of hype to live up to, the show had its work cut out for it in the series premiere. The result was a mediocre launch to one of the more promising comedies to come down the pike in a while. But solid casting and good writing will always save the day (unless you’re too smart for your audience, a la Arrested Development.)
Well, Tracey Jordan is now a staple of The Girlie Show, our show-within-the-show, and head writer Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) is none too happy about it, though we get the feeling she’s got a bigger beef with having her leadership usurped by corporate dolt Jack Donaghy (the so-far hilarious Alec Baldwin).

Title: Further Instructions
Original Airdate: 10/18/2006
In a scene reminiscent of the very first scene of the pilot episode, we open with a bloodied and battered Locke splayed in the jungle, just as Jack was in September of 2004. A naked Desmond (yum!) runs by in the distance and Locke tries to call out to him, but he’s unable to get out the words (I have dreams like this all the time, and it freaks me out – but I am a little relieved to see that it happens to other people, too). Apparently this is shortly after the Big Event (implosion/explosion/shrieking noise/blinding light) from the season finale. Eko’s scripture stick falls from the sky and lands near Locke.
Apparently putting all of that heroin junkie/you tried to drown my baby nonsense behind them, Charlie and Claire are hanging out together on the beach (when your plane has crashed on a remote island and you’re not in contact with civilization, you have a lot of time to hang out and look pretty – and they do). They see Locke on the beach, and Charlie sarcastically ribs him for being away so long and not writing or calling. Locke immediately sets to work building the church that was started by Eko.
