SNL is Funny Again?!

December 5, 2006 by

I’m not really sure what is happening over at SNL but over the past few weeks they seemed to have found the funny. It all started with the Alec Baldwin-hosted episode a few weeks ago, continued with a surprisingly good episode featuring Ludicrious, and finally this week we had a solid show with guest host Matthew Fox of Lost. Maybe it’s the pressure from 30 Rock and Studio 60. Whatever the reason, I say ‘keep it up SNL’, and I might decide to keep on watching.

Here were my two favorite sketches from this past week’s show.

Matthew Fox runs into obsessive Lost fans
(he must really get this all the time, seriously).

Thanks to TheTVAddict for the video.

My FABULOUS Amy Poehler sets Ms. Britney Spears straight.

It got funnier the moment that Tina Fey was no longer the head writer. She seems like a nice person, and I wish her well, but the show is much better off without her.

I totally agree with you…I have found the last few weeks a lot funnier. I do miss Jimmy Fallon, though. AND….my brother and sister-in-law and I were falling out laughing doing dramatic re-enactments of the Amy/Horatio skits with “RICK RICK RICK RICK!!!!”…my uncle’s name is Rick, and whenever I hear his name, I think of Amy screaming it…good times!

It’s so weird that you have this here! I haven’t watched SNL in a long time, but I TiVoed it because Matthew Fox was the host on Saturday. The two clips you have here are my two favorite skits of the night, too. I watched them at least 3 times each. I was thinking, “I thought this show wasn’t funny anymore, but THIS is funny!”

    New York slice, indeed.

I agree the past few weeks have been pretty funny. I thought Update was a little weak earlier in the season, but was one of the highlights last Saturday. I love Seth Meyers!

The Ludacris episode was awesome. I loved Blizzard Man.

kath, do you have any clout? Like the kind that can get John Krasinski to host SNL? Because that. would. be. awesome.

Ok, I’m on it. Lorne Michael is #4 on my speed dial…how does the 3rd week in March work? ha ha ha

Can we form like a letter to him (Lorne)? I think it would be well, the best hour and a half of TV in a while.

I didn’t think this episode was fantastic, but I LOVED that Amy Poehler bit. So spot on, and hilarious to boot.

I thought this was a great episode too. I’m an SNL die-hard, so I’ve been watching it all this time (on TIVO, to skip the bad parts). My favourite skit from this week had to be Amy Phoeler’s fabulous Nancy Grace impersonation – I think I watched it five times in one night. (“Click….hmmmmm…..Whut??!!??…..Ugggghhhh!!….Click”)
    Best.line.ever.
The other two you posted were fab as well though.

How pathetic that SNL has gotten so bad that when they have a couple of mildly amusing episodes, you declare the show “funny again”?

Take a look at any show with the original cast or from the cast that had Carvey/Hartman/Meyers/Rock and you will see that today’s SNL is a pale imitation of what once was truly funny.

I’m not comparing this season against others, I’m simply saying that the show is making me laugh more than it has lately.

I thought this week had it’s funny moments, but my favorite episode of this season has to be when Hugh Laurie hosted. I watched it live the first time it was on and then I watched it thanksgiving weekend when it repeated. He was great and the skits were great and it was the first time Weekend Update felt normal and funny this season.
If you get a chance, you can see some of the skits on the NBC SNL website.
And although I’m not a huge fan of Alec Baldwin, I did like some of that week as well.
