GMMR Spotlight: MeeVee.com

MeeVee LogoIt just occurred to me, that almost everyday I send my little GMMRers off on an adventure to another TV website – a site whom I have never properly introduced to you. I’m not a very responsible blogger now am I?!

Well there is no better time than the present, so listen up! With all the TV I watch (and it’s a lot), I can’t possibly be expected to remember what night my favorite shows are on, none the less what’s happening in each episode. And this is why MeeVee.com has become by far the website I visit most on a daily basis. In addition to providing Give Me My Remote with “Watchlists” that you all check out daily, my friends over at MeeVee.com* send along some special articles to share with all of you (i.e., TV’s Most Lovable Losers). But there is a lot more to MeeVee.com so I thought I would get you acquainted to the many cool features.

GMMR reader, this is MeeVee. MeeVee, please meet the fab readers of GMMR.

MeeVee.com’s interactive TV listings (MeeVee Guide) is by far the best one available today. Sorry Zap2It and TV Guide, but I’m just being honest. By taking just a minute to register, you can not only view TV listings, but create a customized program guide based on your favorite shows. And MeeVee goes one step further, they will not only tell you when your show is airing, but it will also list all the upcoming reruns (very handy for a life long Creeker like myself), as well as other ways to view your favorite shows (like when it’s available for download on iTunes). You can get a short episode description from any old website, but with MeeVee you can see an exclusive clip of that episode too.

The X Factor’s Leona Lewis Does it Again

Leona Lewis, The X Factor

Amazing. Stunning. Perfection. I’m not really sure what I can say about Leona Lewis’s rendition of “Over the Rainbow” during this past week’s The X Factor. You have to listen to it for yourself.  Her voice is a gift and for those who are reality TV haters, well even they have to admit that reality TV is worth it if talents like Leona Lewis are going to emerge.
Go back and watch her past performances, and just take a moment to realize that you are watching a future global music superstar.

In addition to her perfomance of Rainbow, Leona also took on Whitney Houston’s” I Have Nothing”.  She of course nails it, and she takes down the house at the oh so famous song climax (03:30).

Battlestar Galactica Recap: “The Passage”

December 10, 2006 by
Filed under Battlestar Galactica Recaps, TV News

Title: “The Passage”
Original Airdate: 12/8/2006

Previously, Kat got hooked on stimulants. Adama asked Tigh to come back to the CIC. Baltar is half convinced he’s one of the final five Cylon models. D’anna/Xena likes to play life and death, literally.

Sharon flies through a bright light and looks sick to her stomach. Back on Galactica, Adama explains to Roslin that somehow they have contaminated their entire food supply. Cottle concludes they have about a week’s left of rations. In the pilot’s quarters, everyone throws in their crackers to divide up and eat. Sharon’s looking for a passage to the planet with the algae needed for food, but the passage is ripe with radiation.

41,420. I’ve been waiting on this episode for months because it was written by the ingenious Jane Espenson. She’s basically written for every show you’ve ever loved including Buffy, Angel, Gilmore Girls, and Firefly. Jane has her own blog, www.janeespenson.com, where she gives advice to aspiring screenwriters. Her great insight on characterization and dialogue, along with motivations to write, is a must for any writer.

Cylon Baseship. D’anna climbs out of bed but wakes Baltar. Baltar compares Cylon existence on the baseship to fleas on a cat. Hee. Caprica Six tells him that D’anna’s been doing “things”. Baltar tracks her down and calls her out for her extracurriculars. She’s been committing suicide and downloading every afternoon. Baltar wants to know why, wants help understanding his own destiny and if he’s a Cylon. She shows him sketches of her memories in death. They listen to the hybrid talk. Baltar decides to stick his hand in the goo. The hybrid grabs his arm and rattles off gibberish. He decodes the riddle and discovers the hybrid has given them a clue to Earth.

If I Ran “Lost”/”The Office”…

December 8, 2006 by
Filed under Lost, The Office, TV News

It’s clear that the folks at Entertainment Weekly read Give Me My Remote. Come on, do you think it’s just a coincidence that this week’s EW features an Office/Lost crossover article, just days after I posted my perfectly flawless (read: nightmarishly bad) photoshopped cast photos? Not a chance. Ha ha.

Kidding of course, but the fine folks at EW have in fact explored what life might be like if the person orchestrating life on the island were to switch places with the real boss of Dunder Mifflin. Here’s the article from the EW article on newsstands now. (Look for the mag with Will Smith on the cover…and let me just say that I am so glad I finally subscribe to EW – it’s the best. Click here to subscribe.)

If I Ran Lost…
by The Office Executive Producer Greg Daniels

Act I: In the operating room, Jack and Juliet wait for Kate’s call. After an awkward silence, they play games to kill time. Juliet asks what DVDs Jack would bring to a desert island. Jack answers without seeing any irony. One of his movies is Twister with Helen Hunt. Juliet decided to make fun of Jack with Ben if Ben survives. Back on the beach, Hurley, Sun, Jin, Claire and Sayid strap airplane seats to their feet and race to see who gets to say a line of dialogue.

If I Ran The Office…
by Lost Executive Producer Damon Lindelof

Act I: Dwight wraps a tape measure around his head and confides to Michael that his skill is mysteriously expanding. Michael throws a mysterious glance at the microwave, then looks at the camera and rolls his eyes. Mysteriously.

Who is TV’s Hottest Couple?

December 8, 2006 by

Is your favorite on-screen couple the hottest on TV? Think about it. Just because they are your favorite couple doesn’t mean they are the hottest, right?! Be honest.

And what makes a couple hot? Well according to TV and Sympathy it’s “Passion. Chemistry. Electricity. Having the highest likelihood of ducking out early from a party together so they can get it on in a broom closet.”

TV's Hottest Couples

TV and Sympathy is asking TV viewers what twosomes are so hot that YOU need a cold shower after just watching them. There are many couples to choose from but only one will prevail. Click here to share your thoughts on TV Hottest Couple.

P.S.

TV&S felt the need to call me out personally for my obvious allegiance. Just you wait…we will see a supply closet scene – then we’ll talk about who is hot!!

Life After Dunder Mifflin for Karen Filippelli

December 8, 2006 by
Filed under Pam Beesly, The Office, TV News

Rashida Jones, The OfficeFans of The Office should definitely check out this funny post on ComedyCentral.com called “The Karen Conundrum“. As the post contends, forget the “Dems vs. the Republicans” or “the interns against Congressmen” the big controversy in 2006 is Pam Beesly vs. Karen Filippelli.

The article boasts of the radiant Rashida Jones‘ path to success and why Karen Filippelli is ready for her own spinoff (an idea that I 100% support…um, not that I’m Team Pam or anything). Here’s a few suggestions for what Ms. Filippelli might do after Jim dumps her when he realizes that he can never love anyone besides Pam her time at Dunder Mifflin has expired.
When You Karen Enough to Send the Very Best…

Karen’s Office: When Karen is fired from Dunder Mifflin (let’s face it – the Stamford office crew has as much chance of survival as the “Tailies” on Lost) she moves to New York to open her own PR firm. Laugh with Karen as she faces the struggles of self-employment, from changing the copier toner cartridge to changing the printer toner cartridge. And learn what that sleazy executive meant when he promised to let Karen “bag the Johnson account.”

Karen in the House!: Rashida Jones stars as social worker Karen Jones in this hilarious fish-out-of-water sitcom! After a tragic series of underpants slips, a partying pop star mom is assigned a live-in caseworker by Child Protective Services. Watch as the young children finally begin to develop hand-eye coordination and a regular (human) diet under Karen’s watchful eye. You go, girl!

Karen Karenson, MD: No one at Lake Tahoe County Hospital works harder than neurological surgeon and powerful psychic, Karen Karenson. Each week the residents, stumped by their patients’ curious symptoms, are bewildered by Dr. Karenson’s precise diagnoses, and unblemished success record. But what happens when her visions of the future affect her ability to remain professionally detached? Find out in episode three: Your Baby Is [Gonna Be] A Gay Basher.

*lit-ur-ah-lee. adv. meaning “metaphorically” or “figuratively” or “not literally.”

Mascot, Unique Accessories for your pets (mymascot.com)Remember how excited I was a few weeks back when I got to talk to John Krasinski? Well today I have something almost as exciting to share – at least for me personally. One of my very best friends, Stephanie, along with her business partner Jeff, created a line of unique dog accessories called Mascot and today Mascot is a featured item within the Stylewatch section of People.com

Mascot, Unique Accessories for your pets

From People.com

Want to make your dog stand out in a crowd? For those of us who take our pups to dog runs, it’s not just a style statement, it’s the best way to track them in the pack! These bright, colorful Sailors Knot collars, $36 (and matching leashes, $42) from Mascot fit the bill — and could the bone-shaped buckle be cuter? And if you aren’t just gifting your own pooch, consider adding in one of their Varsity sweaters, $60, for a complete and coordinated gift for the dog-lover in your life.

Mascot’s leads, collars, tags, etc have been flying off the shelves in boutiques across the country. Mascot has been featured in magazines such Redbook and even a few celebs pups are sporting the latest in Mascot fashion.

I’ve never been much of a dog person myself, although I am quite smitten with Steph’s dog…my little doggie niece Riley. But if you want your dog to be a fashionista, you should definitely check out Mascot.

Mascot, Riley

Let’s all give a GMMR round of applause to Steph & Jeff!!

30 Rock Recap

December 8, 2006 by
Filed under 30 Rock, TV News

Original Airdate: 12/7/2006

This week’s 30 Rock was an episode of recurring themes – Jenna’s professional insecurity, Tracey’s unpredictability, Liz’s fear of being alone and Jack’s condescending, imbecilic superiority. It was also 22 minutes littered at every turn with belly laughs.

So Liz and Dennis (Dean Winters) are roomies now, and it’s everything Liz thought it would be – or wouldn’t be. The conversation is inane – “What kind of name is Bode?” asks Dennis. Their kids will have names like Shannon or Rick.

Now you’d think that kind of talk would make a girl swoon. After all, what typical commitment-phobic guy brings up the topic of kids? But Liz knows he’s not the guy for her. So she resolves to break up with Dennis that night. So she’s off to work with an annoying hair tousle. But first, she stops at the blood bank.

Phlebotomist: Now make sure you get plenty of fluids and something to eat. Don’t do anything strenuous tonight. Don’t hit the clubs.
Liz: No, I’m going straight home. Actually, I’m breaking up with my boyfriend tonight. I can’t take it anymore.
Phlebotomist: Hmmm, 35, single, no children, three sexual partners in the last 10 years. I don’t know doll, maybe it’s time to settle.

MeeVee’s TV’s Top Lovable Losers

December 8, 2006 by

GMMR’s good friends over at TV with MeeVee pulled together this fun list of TV’s most lovable losers. They were kind enough to share it with me so I could pass it along to you. So make sure to head over to TV with MeeVee and thank flyingpuck for pulling this together. And take a look at the list. Did they get it right? Anyone left off?

TV with MeeVee They don’t have charm. They don’t have looks. They don’t get many dates. But they do have a special place in our hearts. They’re television’s lovable losers. They make us all feel better about ourselves and sometimes teach those dumb jocks that there’s more to a person than a pair of thick glasses and an overbite.

Here are TeeVee’s Top Twenty Lovable Losers of All Time

Gomer Pyle – As one of TV’s classic losers, the dim-witted but endearing Pyle gave his drill instructor fits and generally brought down the Marine Corps’ average IQ single-handedly. This is one jarhead who doesn’t fit the profile.

Paul Pfeiffer – Kevin’s nerdy sidekick on The Wonder Years was the skinny, little, big-nosed kid we all knew growing up. He sat in the front row in math class. You threw stuff at him when the teacher wasn’t looking and then he got in trouble when he turned around and yelled at you. Shame on you. Paul was allergic to everything and lost his virginity to his cousin. That’s about a nine on the loser scale.

LaverneLaverne DeFazio – She dated sailors, drank milk and Pepsi, and embroidered a big “L” on all her sweaters. She was the outspoken yin to Shirley’s yang in Laverne and Shirley. Laverne was a goofy tomboy who turned a goofy TV character into a darn successful directing career. Not too shabby.

Steve Urkel – Urkel made this list based on sheer determination. He wasn’t even the main character on Family Matters (he was only supposed to be on the show for one episode), but he defined the show season after season. I think it ran for 84 years. I’ll have to look it up. Urkel grew about 4 feet during the course of the show, but never gave up the suspenders and flood pants.

Milhouse Van Houten – Milhouse is so much more than Bart Simpson’s spineless best friend. He’s the animated version of all the other classic losers on this list. He was hopelessly in love with Lisa (classic loser scenario), and despite looking nerdy, he did make the very astute observation, “I’m not a nerd, Bart. Nerds are smart.”

Project Runway Without Tim Gunn?

Filed under Project Runway, TV News

Tim Gunn, Project Runway

Christmas without Santa Claus? The chicken without the egg? Joanie without Chachi? That’s what it would be like to see Bravo’s mega hit reality show, Project Runway, without Tim Gunn.

According to EW, contracts are in place for hostess Heidi Klum and judges Nina Garcia and Michael Kors, but not for Tim Gunn. What?! The style mentor of the show is still in negotiations with Bravo, and rumor has it that his responsibilities as Chair of Fashion at Parson School of Design may take priority over his gig on Project Runway. And let me just say that I personally would give my left arm for a business card that read “Chair of Fashion”.

Listen, Heidi Klum may be the host but Tim Gunn is the star! Let’s hope Gunn and Bravo can MAKE IT WORK!
