Grey's Anatomy Recap: "Six Days Part 1" - Give Me My Remote : Give Me My Remote

Grey’s Anatomy Recap: “Six Days Part 1”

Grey's Anatomy Cast

Let’s take a look at what went down, shall we?

George’s father had the surgery. He was advised that if the cancer had spread then he would be closed up and sent home to die. He insisted that they remove the cancer, and he would take his chances and fight like hell to stay alive. No one but the Chief and Bailey knew of his wish. George is not going to be pleased.

And was anyone else knocked out of their boots by George and Meredith’s scene outside of Mr. O’Malley’s hospital room?

George: He’s my Dad
Meredith: I know.
George: He’s my Dad

I wasn’t expecting it and it ran me over like a MAC truck. I had this strange and sudden out burst of tears and I couldn’t control myself until the end of the commercial break. Damn you Grey’s writers. I need a little warning. How about a little sappy music, or something to build it up.

Speaking of George. George made out with Callie. George made out with Callie. George is my favorite character on the show, and you all know my girl crush on Callie, so I was happy to see these kids on the path of a reunion. And based on spoilers I’ve read, what a reunion it will be.

Izzie still isn’t allowed into surgery. Supposedly it’s because she hasn’t yet deposited the $8.7M check from Dead!Denny. But is no one else noticing that at the teeny tiniest hint of stress, Izzie’s eyes tear up and she is thisclose to breaking down? Really, no one is noticing this? She ends up depositing the check, in a touching yet hysterically funny scene.

Meredith’s Dad, who we all assumed was killed by Lincoln Burrows…oh wait, wrong show. Oh right, Meredith’s Dad who left, or most likely was forced out of Mer’s life at an early age, has been at the hospital tending to his ill, newborn granddaughter. Meredith isn’t dealing well with her father’s presence. But maybe dealing is what she just needs to do. Your mother is lost to you, reach out to your Dad. See what he has to say. At the very least try to worm your way into the will. Oh, and we learned tonight that Meredith is a snorer. So much so that Derek hardly ever sleeps the whole night next to her. I feel your pain McDreamy. Listen to me…invest in ear plugs. It might just save your life.

Something was going down with Sloane this week, but I’m not sure I completely understood what it was. Did we find out and I just missed it? Anyway, Addison is giving him a pass for his rude and obnoxious behavior, so she’s obviously involved some how. Could it perhaps be related to the scenes they showed for next week? Hmmm. Oh and Alex and Addison came VERY close to making out. Yes, full out fornication can be expected soon. (Hey Addy…come here. Listen, I heard from Jess, who heard from Steph, who is neighbors with Kerry, who lives down the street from Julie, who knows Deb, who is cousins with Lauren, who knows Olivia who slept with Alex, and he gave her the Syph. Just wanted you to have fair warning.)

As always, a pretty fantastic episode of the best drama on TV. Tonight was part 1 of a 2-parter, so can expect some answers next week to a few of the questions raised, and some more drama. Meanwhile, I will be praying for Mr. O’Malley to pull through. Oh and dude, did anyone else freak out when they realized how old the little girl from “One Fine Day” got? The chick with the back issues, was Clooney’s daughter in that movie. Wow, I feel old.

Ok, I’m done…talk amongst yourselves. And by that I mean, leave a comment!!!

I agree with everything you wrote! I was a bit pissed when that was the only moment between Addison and Alex remotely dirty…even though I found myself a little grossed out. Maybe because it was in front of a baby? I don’t know. I felt that the writers are finally getting back to their roots a bit with this eppy. But, the one thing that really, really bothered be was the editing. At the end, with that last shot of Addison in the elevator, that was SO from “Yesterday”, the eppy that Mark came in for one episode last season. Other than that, I would love to discuss the promo for next week, but I am bothered again that maybe I was too spoiled, that maybe not everyone has seen that promo, or I am still in the process of saying “I told ya so!” to all my friends about the Addison/Mark thing (if you saw the preview, you know what I mean).

I don’t think it was the best GA eppy ever, but its the best of the season thus far definately. I don’t understand why they had to put it into a two nighter, but I guess the blog kinda explained that already. And surprisingly, for the first time all season, I actually cried. And it looks like I won’t quit crying next week either! I just wonder why Meredith was crying in the promo…does she find something out about her mother??? Hmm…man, I wanna discuss the promo! AHH! Its getting better–Shonda and Krista just need to quit handing off the writing to newbies and keep writing for the hit show they have instead of concentrating on Shonda’s new show.

The girl from One Fine Day was also George Michael’s girlfriend on Arrested Development, so I was shocked when I saw her there not here. Anyway, great recaps for both Grey’s Anatomy and The Office!

OMG you are so right. That was Ann!! Much like Michael Bluth I easily forgot all about her 🙂

Actually it was titled “Six Days”, Pt. 1, not Six Degrees…lol 🙂

Thanks. I get the jackass of the year award for that one!!!

I completely agree with your assessment. That moment with George & Meredith killed me too. The way he grabbed her arm like he needed her support to even remain standing. So sad, but that much more exciting when his dad was able to pee so much (who knew we could be so excited about urine??).

Also, I love Ann (RIP AR), and she is also from the FX show Theif where she played the step-daughter of Andre Braugher’s character. It is shocking how old she seems now!

No you get the jackass of the year award for not noticing EGG!

True. But I have a weird obsession with “One Fine Day” and “When a Man Loves a Woman” so that’s where my mind goes first.

i love addison. she seems to be the only one that can own up to her mistakes. and i hate myself for meredith making me cry especially since she’s my least favorite. George and Callie!!! yeah!!

Why isn’t the actor who plays Alex ever in any of the official photo-opps?

  11. GMMR on January 12th, 2007 2:14 pm

Alex is there? He’s dead center. And I don’t remember any other groups shots where he was missing.

i really love this cast photo, even though it’s missing Addison and Callie

This was really a very good episode. So many awesome George moments!!! I really like that they’re giving his character so many layers and so many things to do.
That “he’s my dad” scene… I don’t even know what to say. It just felt so right, and was one of my favourite moments of the season.

Also, I can’t believe it was Ann!!!!

I’m totally with you…there were a few moments like that during the show where it felt like I must have missed an episode. For example, they skipped over Burke having surgery and went right to the recovery part (and I’m irritated he didn’t tell US how his hand is doing). If anyone else watched Grey’s in the beginning, didn’t they show a bunch of eps out of order at first? It reminded me of that.

I found this ep a little disconnected too. Good, but disconnected. I think once we see part 2, it will all become clearer. And, yes – that moment in the hallway was incredible. I think my favorite part of the ep was “the stare”. Hysterical. It took me awhile to warm up to Callie, but she gets better and better with each episode.
