Isaiah Washington’s Apology

I know what you’re thinking, and believe me, I’m getting a little sick of it too. But I had to jump online and post Isaiah Washington’s personal apology. Sorry, but didn’t you already apologize back in October. An apology is something. At least he didn’t pretend he was an alcoholic and blame it on the booze…not that I’m naming names.
“I apologize to T.R., my colleagues, the fans of the show and especially the lesbian and gay community for using a word that is unacceptable in any context or circumstance. By repeating the word Monday night, I marred what should have been a perfect night for everyone who works on Grey’s Anatomy. I can neither defend nor explain my behavior. I can also no longer deny to myself that there are issues I obviously need to examine within my own soul, and I’ve asked for help.
I know the power of words, especially those that demean. I realize that by using one filled with disrespect I have hurt more than T.R. and my colleagues. With one word, I’ve hurt everyone who has struggled for the respect so many of us take for granted. I welcome the chance to meet with leaders of the gay and lesbian community to apologize in person and to talk about what I can do to heal the wounds I’ve opened.
T.R.’s courage throughout this entire episode speaks to his tremendous character. I hold his talent, and T.R. as a person, in high esteem. I know a mere apology will not end this, and I intend to let my future actions prove my sincerity.”

The following post discusses the latest episodes of My Name is Earl, Grey’s Anatomy, The O.C. and The Office (regular ep & producer’s cut). If you haven’t seen the show, then it’s a spoiler alert to you.
My Name is Earl: I can’t say that I watched the whole episode, but what I did see was funny as all get out. Especially the bit at the end poking fun at us web dorks. Oh, and there was something so wonderful about watching that scene in a live chat room with my online friends. Is this a show I should be watching? I don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything, but maybe I’m wrong.
Grey’s Anatomy: Yeah, check out this post again later, when I have a chance to calm down and talk about it without breaking out into tears. All I know is that I need to take some Valium, Xanax…some kind of prescription drug that will help me keep my emotions in check while watching this show. The waves of crying have just got to stop. It’s not right.
UPDATE: The crying has stopped, but it’s just under the surface. Just the sight of TR Knight might make me lose it all over again. For the second week in a row George O’Malley made my heartache. He’s so passionate about everything and I want nothing more than just to hold him. It was sad to see him deal with the death of his father. But George once again demonstrated how much more of a man he has become this past year when he had to make the tough calls for his family.
Alex and Addy have mad chemistry and I hope we get to see a little more of Karev and Big Red. Unfortunately lacking in chemistry and a storyline is McSteamy. Will they give him something to do already besides bang women and whine about how Derek was his best friend? Get over it. Why are you still in Seattle? Whoa, that might have come out wrong. I’d like to redact that last statement. Please stay. Just find something to do with yourself. Perhaps learn how to make coffee.
Christina and Burke continued to bore me with their 8th grade mockery of a romance. And how long are they going to carry on the Meredith snoring storyline? Seriously? Seriously.

ABC’s Statement on Grey’s Anatomy Debacle

Remember that scene in Back to the Future, where Marty McFly is playing the guitar on stage and he looks down at the picture and sees himself slowing fading out of it and therefore out of existence. His only hope to keep himself alive is to take quick and drastic measures to make everything wrong, right again. Yeah, Isaiah Washington should rent that movie tonight.
Meanwhile, ABC has just released the first public statement on “The Incident(s)”.
“We have a long-standing policy to create and maintain respectful workplaces for all our employees. We dealt with the original situation in October, and thought the issue resolved. Therefore, we are greatly dismayed that Mr. Washington chose to use such inappropriate language at the Golden Globes, that he himself deemed ‘unfortunate’ in his previous public apology. We take this situation very seriously, and his actions are unacceptable and are being addressed.”
I’m interested to see what’s next. Another apology from Isaiah ain’t going to cut it. I think one person and one person only can save Isaiah’s job and that is T.R. Knight. Anything less than T.R. making a statement saying that he emphatically wants Isaiah to stay on Grey’s Anatomy just won’t do. Even then, I’m not sure it will work…irreparable damage has been done.
Manning over Brady in HD? Um, No Thanks!!

According to a recent poll conducted by Sony, more women would rather watch Peyton Manning, QB of the Indianapolis Dolts Colts on high-def television than Tom “2 Time Superbowl MVP and QB of my heart” Brady. What?
Now, I see the appeal of Peyton Manning. He’s adorable in those Visa ads. But Peyton over Tommy in the looks department? Yeah, those Visa ads aren’t THAT cute. Tom Brady is hot as hell. Just ask recent ex Bridget Moynahan (Six Degrees) or current rumored paramour Gisele Bundchen. Yes, as in the supermodel.
Twenty bucks says that this poll was conducted in Indy, right?

You can’t give me a hard time for serving up a short Office Thursday post, because c’mon, this whole week has been one big Office Thursday, agreed?
Congratulations to the cast and crew of The Office for getting an early pick up from NBC for next season. I don’t think anyone doubted a 4th season, but the early announcement is a sign of respect from NBC. CONGRATS!!!!
On we go…
The one…the only…the ORIGINAL “Office” Chat…
I guess I’ll start off by letting you know that we will in fact we having our weekly LIVE Office chat tonight over at BuddyTV.com. As always, we’ll be gathering around 8pm EST and chat it up throughout the show. I’m looking forward to seeing the regulars tonight, and let’s see if we can’t persuade a few newbies to join us. Click here to set a reminder about tonight’s chat.
Tonight on The Office and BREAKING NEWS…
“The Return”: Oscar returns after his 3-month company-paid vacation but is he already reconsidering his future at the office? Meanwhile, the new Devil of Dunder Mifflin, Andy, exploits recent events to inch closer to Michael. Not dawesome, not dawesome at all. On the other side of the office, Jim colludes with Pam and Karen to trick someone in the office—but the target’s not Dwight. And I’m going to go out on a limb and say that we are going to have yet another episode where Jim and Pam don’t talk to each other about what’s going on between them. Prove me wrong Greg Daniels…prove me wrong.
BREAKING NEWS: According to NBC.com a producer’s cut of the episode will be airing after the episode. YES!! Expect it to be online shortly after the end of the West Coast airing of the show (so around 12:00 AM EST/9:00 PM PST) (thanks to Tori for the tip)

Scrubs “My Musical” Sneak Peek
January 18, 2007 by Kath Skerry
Filed under Scrubs, TV Comedy, TV News
UPDATE: I first reviewed tonight’s musical episode of”Scrubs” in early January, but I thought I would post it again today to remind you all to check it out…set the TiVos.
Genius. Yes, it’s an overused word that no longer holds the same heavy meaning it once did, but I’m going to use that word all the same to describe the upcoming Scrubs: “My Musical”. I had been anticipating seeing this episode since first hearing about it this summer. But even after seeing the first two clips (watch: “Guy Love” and “Everything Comes Down to Poo”), I still wasn’t sure what to expect. To be honest, I was afraid that a musical episode might be awkward and cringeworthy, but in turn we got a hilarious half hour of television – maybe on of the best Scrubs has ever produced (and that’s saying a lot for this incredible show).
So why are the patrons of Sacred Heart Hospital suddenly acting like the Von Trapp kids? It all starts when Elliot and JD tend to a woman who faints in the park. When she awakes everything around her appears as she is in a musical. Those around her break out into song and dance without hesitation. It’s what life should be. How fun.
The music was written by the Tony Award winning team behind Avenue Q, and they didn’t hold back just because this is TV. The songs are funny and well produced, as were the dance numbers which had me bopping along in my seat . There was a real sense that you could be watching a Broadway musical (one that references body parts and poo of course).
And how did the actors hold up? Surprisingly well. While not all of them are born crooners, each held their own and never was I taken out of the moment by someone’s ill tuned pipes. It was actually the opposite as I felt more drawn in when hearing how good most of the actors were. Zach Braff sounded like he had been doing this his whole life. He’s not going to be releasing an album next year or anything, but he has a smooth and distinctive voice which fit in very well for this type of music. But John C. McGinley (Dr. Cox) gets my award for favorite musical number with his song about his relationship with JD. Too funny!
Definitely make sure you record this episode when it airs on January 18th, because you’re going to watch this one more than once. I should know, I’ve watched it three times since just las night.
American Idol….I Can’t, I Just Can’t
January 17, 2007 by Kath Skerry
Filed under American Idol, American Idol Recap, TV News
I just finished watching tonight’s episode of American Idol and I want nothing more than to drink a bottle of Jack and then take a hot shower. Yes, it was that creepy and uncomfortable. Ick. As I’ve said before, I just don’t really enjoy the early shows as much as most of you do. I feel that American Idol just exploits these socially awkward people, and I find myself fast forwarding more than watching. Now I’m not so high on my soap box that I’m going to stop watching, but I do feel for some of these kids.
And before you start bitch-mailing me saying that they asked for this and deserved this, let me first say that I will agree that this is true for some but not all contestants. See the bad ones…the really bad ones, like we saw tonight, go through round after round of auditions before they reach Paula, Simon and Randy. And with each round they are encouraged to be bigger and bolder because they are “very talented”. So you start with these people, many of whom appeared to my untrained eye to be emotionally disturbed, and then you keep giving them false hope. Some of them are even told that they won’t be respected unless they give back to Simon the harsh comments he gives them. They are set up to fail before walking in there. A reporter went through the audition last year and made it all the way to Simon, Paula and Randy. He was awful…on purpose. He tried to be super outrageous and bad just to see how some of these people made it through to the TV show. I’m going to search for the article and post it if I can.
Anyway, my point is, at this stage of the show, it’s all just a little too awkward for me. Bring on the good singers. Is it Hollywood Week yet?
TR Knight on Ellen DeGeneres

Yeah, I guess I have been a little overly focused on the Grey’s Anatomy issue today, but it really affected me. TV is an escape and when these outside issues influence how I watch the show I get a little taken in by it all. Well that and the ignorance that is apparently at the core of it all.
Anyway, many of you have asked, so here is the video of TR Knight on Ellen DeGeneres talking about the incident…well incidents. I had a hard time watching it myself.

Hey Ali Larter…Watch Your Back

GMMR’s friends over at TV with MeeVee were lucky enough to work the red carpet at the Golden Globes, a perk of which means hanging for a bit with John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer. Some people have all the luck.
I was lucky enough to hear the audio of this exchange, and it’s filled to the brim with flirt – just the way we like our JAM. Read on to check out the cuteness.
The folks at MeeVee snagged a TON of celebrity interviews, so check back a lot over the next few days and read ’em all.
From TV with MeeVee:
Around 8:30, the entire cast of The Office rolled in. Although they didn’t take home a statue, they appeared to be quite happy — and quite hammy.
Here’s what happens when good friends meet free drinks on the red carpet.
MeeVee: Did you guys come as a couple?
John Krasinski: We sort of arrived as a couple. We made a conscious decision to “Jam” it up.
Jenna Fischer: Nice use of the pun!
John: Jenna taught me that term, and I just put it to good use.
Jenna: I should say I’m married in real life, so this date is likely not going to lead anywhere…
John: What?!?
Jenna: Oh boy. I forgot to tell you that. I am so sorry. And you spent so much on me tonight, too.
John: Ali Larter’s really disappointed I didn’t ask her, and I could have, because she’s awesome. Dammit!
Ali Larter, really? The Rashida rumors I can take…I mean she’s Rashida Jones for goodness sake. The brains, the beauty. But I think I could take Ali Larter…as long as it wasn’t a beauty contest.
The Office, Heroes and Others Get Early Renewal

Put this one into the HELL YEAH pile!!!
NBC has ordered early full-season pickups for the 2007-08 season for four hit series — the comedies “The Office” and “My Name Is Earl,” and dramas “Heroes” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, ” it was announced today by Kevin Reilly, President, NBC Entertainment.
“These four series represent some of the best of what we consider to be the ‘NBC brand’ of quality shows,” said Reilly. “It is a pleasure to give them an early renewal to develop more stories for next year since we know they will remain both critical and commercial successes for a long time to come.”
I’m not sure if any of this comes as a shock, but an “early” pick up is just an outward sign of confidence in a show. Congrats to all!!

TR Knight Confirms that Isaiah Washington is a Liar!!!

Someone, who asked to remain anonymous, just sent me this transcript from a portion of Ellen Degeneres’ interview with Grey’s Anatomy star T.R. Knight which will air later today. Read on and you will see that Isaiah Washington did in fact use a ignorant, homosexual slur towards T.R. and then proceeded to LIE about in the press room the night of the Golden Globes. This is AMAZING (and not in good way)…read on.
Ellen: So here’s the thing. Some of you may know the story, some of you may not know the story.
Ellen: How long ago did this happen?
T.R.: Early October
Ellen: So Patrick Dempsey and Isaiah Washington are on the set. A scene is about to start and they start getting in a fight and words..
T.R: Not because I was late.
Ellen: And Isaiah Washington says what to Patrick Dempsey?
T.R: He referred to me as a faggot.
Ellen: As a faggot?
T.R: Yes
Ellen: So you’re around the corner and hear this?
T.R: It’s an awesome word isn’t it? (joking)
Ellen: It is. It really is unbelievable. It’s bad enough in school yards that happens but, grown men
T.R.: Everyone heard it.
Ellen: He said this horrible, hateful word and it puts you in this position because your weren’t out and then everyone on the set is hearing this and then you …
T.R: I was under no delusions.. my friends on the set knew. We talked about it.. they knew. I was not under any delusion that they didn’t know but I think publicly it’s not my thing to like call up People Magazine and be like hey you want to know something about me? You know, I think when it happened (the incident) I’ve never been called it and you know you go through things in life and you lose friends when you go through the process whatever your journey is but I’ve never been called that to my face. So, I think when that happened something shifted and it became bigger you know what I mean, then myself. I look to people like you (Ellen) and it’s April right almost ten years (when Ellen came out) to your bravery and others people’s bravery and your just really grateful for that because I could’ve just let it slide and not said anything but it became important.
Ellen: And it became a thing in the press because of the fight
T.R: To say something, It became important to make the statement…
—
On the recent Golden Globe incidentEllen: And then the other night at the Golden Globes I guess Isaiah Washington starting up the whole thing up again which is kind of crazy…
T.R.: Yeah, he denied that he said it (faggot)..I don’t know what to say…really about that.
Ellen: I don’t either, other than it seems like at this point and time we should not say hateful words to one another and we should all learn…
Ellen: I just wish you continued success and that this is out of the way and that people stop saying hateful things to one another or just using that word is dangerous.
T.R.: It is and I don’t know what to say about it but it’s pretty bad..
Ellen: But I’m proud of you, you’re a brave guy.
T.R.: But, thanks to you.. it was ten years ago… but it just made all the difference in the world..
Ellen: It was a different time and things are getting better.
T.R: I was recently watching some of your interviews from that time and it was just .. It was so..I’m losing my words and I apologize it’s just very moving and it just meant so much.
Ellen: Well, what your doing is going to mean something to other people that are seeing that because you’re an amazing guy, so I’m proud of you.
GMMR reader Thursday Morning just passed along this quote from TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello who summed it up best by saying:
“His (Isaiah Washington) continued employment on a show that wears its diversity as a badge of honor is the height of hypocrisy. If ABC wants to be remotely true to the principles Shonda Rhimes so eloquently espouses through the show, it has to do the right thing and fire Washington. Anything else at this point is simply unacceptable.”

Ugly Betty Casting Spoilers
January 17, 2007 by Kath Skerry
Filed under TV News, Ugly Betty
Golden Globe winner for Best Comedy, Ugly Betty, will have some new faces popping up at ‘Mode’ this season. Some will be sticking around and some will be just stop by for a little chit chat.
But before we get to that, let me say CONGRATS to Michael Urie who plays the fabulous Marc on Ugly Betty. He was just recently made a series regular. Depsite his appearance on almost all the episodes to date, he had yet to have that little contract assuring him he had a job to go to everyday. As Marc and Amanda (Becki Newton) have quickly become my favorite part of the show, this thrills me to no end.
As previously reported, Rebecca Romijn will be joining the cast as mysterious woman who has been hiding under all those bandages for months. Again, I thought it was Fey Summers, so I’m intrigued to see who this woman is and what part she will play. And more importantly, how quickly she can get Daniel Meade nekkid and back to his playboy ways. Romijn will first be seen sans bandages on this Thursday’s episode.
Also on Thursday expect to see Kathy Griffin doing her thing as she plays a TV fashion host.
It was also announced that American Idol star Katherine McPhee will be making an appearance. She will play herself, but that’s all I know. Can she act? Let’s hope so, because if not it’s going to reek of stunt casting.Speaking of stunt casting, but in the most fabulous way possible. Guess who else will be “working it” on Ugly Betty?
Find out after the jump (so I got a few complaints that people really couldn’t avoid the casting spoilers if I was showing the pics, so I thought I would throw it under the jump to appease those who are anti spoilers)
SPOILER ALERT
