Grey’s Anatomy’s Isaiah Washington Needs to Go

Yeah, I’m SOOOOO over Isaiah Washington. Bye Dr. Burke, don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out of Seattle Grace. So by now you’ve heard all about the scandal the erupted a few months ago on the set of Grey’s Anatomy. The short version? Of course I wasn’t there, but it was widely reported that someone was late to set and words were exchanged that led to a small physical altercation involving Patrick Dempsey and Isaiah Washington. In the mix of all this supposedly Isaiah referred to TR Knight using a hateful word, which allegedly prompted TR Knight to declare his sexual preference to the press. (TR Knight addresses the issue on Wed on Ellen)
Ok, so the cast tried to do some damage control and downplay the events to the press. And no one worked harder on this than Isaiah himself. They even went on Oprah and discussed it. And for anyone that saw that show the body language of the cast clearly showed that this incident was still raw.So fast forward to last night and the backstage press room interview at the Golden Globes. According to those who were there, one of the very first questions asked of the Grey’s cast after their win for Best Drama referenced the now infamous incident with Knight/Washingston/Dempsey. TR Knight tried to make a joke about it and said “What fight?”. Unfortunately, Isaiah Washington doesn’t know when to keep his ignorant mouth shut and raced to the microphone and said…get this…“No, I did not call T.R. a faggot. Never happened”. Snap! Yeah, I had to check it out in a few places before I truly believed it. Um, sorry Isaiah, but actually by making that statement you pretty much did call him that word….again. (See the video of the press room even before they take it down)
Reports said that the cast looked stunned at Washington’s words while show runner Shonda Rhimes tried to quell the situation by saying something about how the press spun the story…yada yada yada and they were happy for the Golden Globe. The incident in the press room definitely affected Grey’s star Katherine Heigl who commented on the matter soon after it happened. A visibly shaken Heigl said: “I am not okay with it…I’m going to be really honest right now, he needs to just not speak in public. Period. I’m sorry, that did not need to be said, I’m not okay with it.”
GMMR in Television Week Magazine

If you happen to see the latest issue of Television Week Magazine, make sure to put it in your cart along with People, EW and Hustler, because if you look inside, you might just come across a familiar name…me!! Yes, my first magazine feature…woo hoo!!!
A few weeks ago yours truly was asked to share my opinions on the Golden Globe nominations as well as share my two cents on who will bring home the big prize. I thought maybe one small blurb of mine might make it in, so I was shocked to find out that I was all over a few of the articles. Yeah, me and Ausiello…that’s how we roll.
Excerpts of the pieces are online, so I thought I would share them with ya (and no I don’t expect you to read them all). Before you ask, no, my last name isn’t a cuss word, but I replaced it with S***** to keep a little anonymity…I mean, I don’t want to make it too easy for John Krasinski or Wentworth Miller to stalk me, right? Gotta make the boys work for it. And I went ahead and highlighted my quotes because I am self involved egomaniac. (Truth, I wanted to make it easier for my Dad to read it). Although I was wring in some of my predictions, I hope you like it.
Oh and one last thing – I talk about the whole issue of the “dramedy” and how it irks me. I’m working on a story about it for GMMR, and I have consulted some of our favorite TV critics from E!, TVGuide.com and more. It seemed my idea sparked the interest of The TV Whore over at Pajiba. Make sure to check out his take “A Girl Can Dream: The Trouble with Dramedies”
Best Performance in a TV Series-Musical or Comedy
By Allison J. Waldman
Special to Television Week
NBC Universal can count on at least one major victory at the 64th Annual Golden Globes. In the category of best actor in a comedy, every nominee comes from a series produced by the Peacock Network. Four of the five nominees, in fact, come from NBC’s Thursday night “must see” comedy block: Alec Baldwin in “30 Rock,” Zach Braff in “Scrubs,” Steve Carell in “The Office” and “My Name Is Earl’s” Jason Lee. The final nominee is Tony Shalhoub in USA’s “Monk,” another NBCU product. In best actress in a comedy, ABC is well represented with three nominations, including one for newcomer America Ferrera of “Ugly Betty.” Two of the actresses from “Desperate Housewives,” Felicity Huffman and Marcia Cross, are repeat nominees in this category, as is last year’s winner Mary-Louise Parker for “Weeds.” Rounding out the nominations is Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who recently won the best actress Emmy for her CBS sitcom “The New Adventures of Old Christine.”
“It’s interesting that they’re all NBC properties, even `Monk.’ I’m surprised someone from `Entourage’ wasn’t nominated, or one of the guys from `Two and a Half Men,”‘ said Joel Keller, assistant editor of TV Squad, speaking about the best actor nominees. “Every male star from every Thursday NBC comedy has been nominated, which I thought was interesting because there are not any other male leads on any other comedies on any other networks that are worthy of nominations. No other day of the week, no other network.”
“I actually thought this was a really strong category,” said TV Guide columnist Michael Ausiello. “Everybody who should have been in this category was in this category. My feeling is that Jason Lee should win. I think he’s the most talented and brings the most to his show. I thought he should have won last year. But I really think Alec Baldwin is going to win because the Golden Globes love to go with what’s new and hip. `30 Rock’ is a freshman show and Baldwin steals the show. Tina Fey is the star, but it’s Alec’s show and it wouldn’t be nearly as funny without him.”
Mr. Ausiello isn’t alone in predicting a win for Mr. Baldwin. “My guess would be Alec Baldwin because it’s just such a big performance and it elevates the whole show,” said Hal Boedeker, TV critic for the Orlando Sentinel. “On some other level, I’d be glad if Jason Lee won for `My Name Is Earl.’ He’s just terrific.”
Steve Carell, star of “The Office,” won the Golden Globe in this category last year. “Even though the Globes aren’t that notorious for repeat winners, I have a feeling Steve Carell is going to win again,” said Mr. Keller. “He’s just getting so much buzz lately that he seems like he’d be the logical winner.”
“Steve Carell should win hands-down. He’s hysterical, the funniest guy on television. But I’m a little concerned about Alec Baldwin. He’s such a big movie star and that may influence the Hollywood Foreign Press Association,” said Kathie S*****, Editor at GiveMeMyRemote.com.
Despite being a previous Golden Globe winner, as well as a three-time Emmy winner, for his lead role in “Monk,” some TV insiders were scratching their heads about Tony Shalhoub’s nomination and his chances of winning again. “To be honest with you, I’m not sure why he keeps winning,” said Ms. S*****.
“It mystifies me,” said Mr. Ausiello. “I’m not a particularly big fan of `Monk,’ and when he won the Emmy-again-there were a lot of groans in the pressroom. The feeling is `Been there, done that.”‘In the best actress category, the “Desperate Housewives” actresses, Ms. Huffman and Ms. Cross, received their third nominations in a row, although neither has won the Golden Globe for the show. “But why take up two spots when maybe somebody else could have been nominated, like one of the women from `How I Met Your Mother’? Why nominate two people from the same show when they may cancel each other out?” Mr. Keller said.
“Weeds” star Mary Louise Parker may have benefited from that canceling-out effect in 2006. When she took home that year’s Golden Globe she was up against all four “Desperate Housewives.”
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, this year’s Emmy winner, is a strong nominee. “They like traditional choices like Julia,” Ms. S***** said. “And I think they’d like to see the end of the `Seinfeld’ curse. Still, I predict America Ferrera will win because she’s a new and fresh face and she’s great in that role.”
Being a fresh face may be key to Ms. Ferrera’s chances of winning the best actress award for”Ugly Betty.”. “Among actresses, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association likes to honor the breakout female stars like Jennifer Garner [`Alias’] and Keri Russell [`Felicity’], and America Ferrera is the breakout star of the season,” said Mr. Ausiello. “The Golden Globes would look really out of touch if they didn’t honor her. She’s the only sure thing in the TV category to me.”
Mr. Boedeker agrees. “I will come right out and tell you that I think America Ferrera will win,” he said. “The Golden Globes are very good about recognizing young star talent.”

Just wanted to stop in real quick to remind everyone that tonight is the 2 hour season premiere of American Idol on Fox at 8/7c. I for one am VERY excited. As I explained on this week’s podcast, I’m all about the good singers, and I could easily skip the ear bleeders that they are going to showcase over the next few weeks, but hey, it’s good TV and I will take what I can get.
And of course I’m looking to Seacrest to let me know what the metroboys are sporting in 2007. Long live Dunkleman!!

Wanna Play TV Blogger?

My head is pounding and my eyes are burning. Last night’s live blogging of the Golden Globes started off just fine. I had learned my lessons about live blogging in the past and I had my system down. But then the show started to drag, and some awards didn’t go our way and everything turned to chaos.
Last night I saw in front of my big screen TV watching the Globes…while live blogging…while posting in the GMMR forums…while emailing back and forth with some of you…while corresponding within the blog comments…and IMing. I. AM. SPENT.
To say I’m sluggish today is putting it mildly. So if you want to play TV blogger today, it’s quite fine with me. Any interesting stories you found on other sites you think I should share on GMMR? Any rare moments that the masses missed last night? Are you a fashionista with a flair for writing and want to do a Best/Worst dressed list from last night…feel free to write something up and send it along. If I think it’s a good fit for GMMR I will post it (with full credit to you of course). Yes, I’m lazy and this is how we are going to roll for the next few hours.
I need just a teeny tiny break today. I’m going to take some aspirin to get rid of this pounding headache, drink my Starbucks, and get some of my “real” work done (you know, the job that supports my ass).

Original Airdate: 1/15/07
Oh no they didn’t!! Oh. No. They didn’t. But they did. Wow… this is the 24 that I’m talking about, people. The kind of shocking, no holds barred, genre defying – nay, genre gleefully-laughing-in-the-face-at – that we’ve come to love and expect from this show. I mean, a freaking nuke exploded in Valencia! Valencia!! The home of Six Flags Magic Mountain! No way 24, you did not just nuke Six Flags. (oh, and, of course, all the hundreds of THOUSANDS of people who live there as well!!) Not only that, but Jack freaking killed Curtis!!! (though if I’m being honest, I had a strong feeling that Curtis would be goner as soon as I saw that he was just “guest starring” in the episodes this season, whereas last year he was a regular… and then when he wouldn’t let go of his hatred for former terrorist mastermind Assad, even after Assad’s Presidential Pardon, well, I knew something really bad was going to come of it).
But man… I did not think that Jack would actually shoot Curtis with a kill-shot in order to stop him from revenge-killing Assad. I thought Jack would at least shoot him in the arm or someplace non-deadly so that they could have time to get the gun away from Curtis, and then just arrest him. Man… That was HARSH. (Once again, this is what I mean when I say that Jack will do ANYTHING to get the job done and ultimately save lives) Oh Curtis, Rest in Peace my friend. You served CTU, Jack, and your country well. It’s just too bad you made the deadliest mistake you can make on 24: you didn’t trust Jack implicitly.

Lost and ABC to Set Series End Date
January 15, 2007 by Kath Skerry
I will be the first one to say that this story should get much more attention than I’m giving it today, but a million things just got dropped on my plate and I want to make it out of work in enough time to watch The Golden Globes.
So here’s the short story…
The producer’s of Lost want to make sure that they have time to tell the story they want to tell. And it seems that at the same time, they aren’t looking to screw over their loyal audience before the story has played itself out to their liking. Therefore, the peeps at Lost have asked ABC to set a series end date, so the the show can go out in style. Strangely enough, they didn’t face too much opposition from ABC.
“We were surprised when we went to ABC and started having that conversation,” Lindelof said. “As opposed to them saying, ‘Fine, we’ll bring on new people,’ they said, ‘Well, when do you think it should end?’ And the conversations began.
“Obviously they want the show to go on as long as possible,” Lindelof added. “And all that we can say is, ‘There’s a show with us running it and there’s a show without us running it, and if you want the show with us running it, this is when we think it should end.’ And like negotiation, therein lies the rub. I think you’ll find, if you talk to [ABC entertainment president] Steve [McPherson], in Steve’s vernacular, he’s begun to embrace the idea that the show needs to end. Now the question becomes when.”
It’s nice to know they do in fact have a point to the sordid stories they tell.
For more on this news from the Losties check out Mo Ryan‘s report.
Update: Did the “Lost” producers pull a fast one on ABC? Seems that ABC wasn’t as aware of the “end date” announcement as they would have liked to be. (Read more at TVWeek.com)
The Office’s Jim & Pam Together…FINALLY
January 15, 2007 by Kath Skerry
Filed under Jenna Fischer, Jim Halpert, John Krasinski, Pam Beesly, The Office, TV Awards, TV News
Yeah, I risked life and limb with a headline like that. Alright, I’ll admit I don’t have any super inside scoop on the coupledom of my favorite TV twosome, but The Office’s Jenna Fischer (Pam Beesly) and my my #1 lanky boy toy John Krasinski (Jim Halpert) will be strolling the red carpet together this evening at the Golden Globes. Hey, it’s going to be the most touching Jim and Pam have done all season…I’ll take what I can get.
I’m all for some red carpet Jammin’, but where will Jenna’s husband actor/writer/director James Gunn be? And is Jenna helping John out so he can avoid walking the red carpet with rumored on screen/off screen paramour Rashida Jones? (It’s all a rumor people…I don’t care how many times they are spotted at concerts, or at dinner together, or breakfast the next morning…it’s all a rumor!! Oh the lies I tell myself in order to protect my fragile heart).
Maybe the two will give some GMMR love on the red carpet tonight…or at least some spoilers. I mean, do you really think it’s a coincidence that these two are walking together tonight? NBC is going for maximum Jim & Pam exposure leading into February sweeps. Let’s hope it’s all for a good reason.
Thanks to Psappy for the tip.

Golden Globe Awards
Finally, awards season is really here! The 64th annual gala — which is heavy on the stars and the booze — has a special honor for Warren Beatty and features Reese Witherspoon, Felicity Huffman, Salma Hayek, Ben Stiller, Justin Timberlake and the cast of Heroes, just to name a few, as presenters.
24 – “Day 6: 8:00 AM-9:00 AM/Day 6: 9:00 AM-10:00 AM
The season premiere continues tonight. Jack and Assad hope that Masheer, one of Abu Fayed’s men, will lead them to Fayed. NBC hopes you’ll be watching this on DVD.
Extras
If you missed last night’s S2 premiere of Extras you can catch an encore episode tonight on HBO. Andy is no longer an extra, but he finds himself irked by the evolution of his sitcom in the second season premiere. Meanwhile, Orlando Bloom makes an ass of himself by bragging about his good looks to a dubious Maggie.
GMMR note: a little bit of dropped continuity in the premiere ep. See in the last episode of S1, Maggie, in an effort to lead a more adult life style, takes down posters from her living room walls. And who pray tell is one of the posters of? Why none other than Orlando Bloom himself.
