Gilmore Girls Recap: Farewell, My Pet

February 15, 2007 by

Sorry all…in all the chaos of yesterday, I forgot to post’s Whirl’s Gilmore Girls recap.  Enjoy.

Title: “Farewell, My Pet”
Original Airdate: Feb. 13, 2007
GMMR Recapper: Whirl

The best way to open up an episode? Luke naked. Since we don’t get that we’ll take Lorelai, Rory and Emily taking Richard and his IV pole for a nice stroll through the Cardiac Recovery Unit. Lor and Rory are messing around, Emily is trying to shush them and Richard is playing along because he’s going stir crazy in that damn hospital.  Seems they’ve all been spending a lot of time there because they start gossiping about the other patients and know them all by name. Richard thinks it’s time Rory took off to go back to Yale so she can spy on the TA who will be running his Econ class. She wants to postpone going back till next week but no one will hear of it. Lor doesn’t think she should miss anymore classes and besides, Rory had already decided. Rory asks her mother “Haven’t you ever decided something and then changed your mind?” This my people is what I like to refer to as foreshadowing…don’t know it? Google is your friend. Lor pulls her daughter aside promising everything will be okay with Richard but Rory’s also worried about her mother, since Chris still hasn’t come home. Seems he’s staying with his mother (HA!) and needs some “space”.  Rory wants to call him but Lorelai down plays everything and makes her daughter promise to go back to school.

Lorelai is back at the Inn and checking in with her employees on how everything went while she was away. While she’s updating Sookie on Richard’s condition they run into Michel, who has his fluffy dog Pa Pa with him. Unfortunately his other dog Chin Chin passed away the night before and he just couldn’t leave Pa Pa alone. The ladies offer up their apologies, but Michel starts a fight with Sookie since she has never liked his dogs. Lor suggests he have a memorial in Chin Chin’s honor, which Michel takes to mean that Sookie and Lorelai with throw the memorial. Yeah they seem really excited about that. I’ve never been to a pet memorial, unless it was in my back yard and a shoe box was involved.

Rory’s home and Paris is happy to see her, even giving her notes on the class she missed. Oh and she hid copies of the books Rory would need at the bookstore so she wouldn’t end up having to buy used ones. Such a good best friend that Paris. Yet not as good as that hunky boyfriend Logan who sent her a second semester survival kit, complete with coffee beans, beer funnel and an inspirational wall thingy that says “Anything is Possible.” Well it is when you’re gorgeous and everyone you know is freaking rich. She calls Logan to say thanks and he offers to come up and see her that night.  Rory thanks him for being so great and wonderful but he wont hear it, since its comes with the territory. Once they hang up Paris calls Ror on her harlequin romance face and admits that she never thought her and Logan would last. Paris can’t believe that Logan has changed, and Rory changed him, just like Paris changed Doyle. They “broke” they’re men and they should be proud of it. Is it wrong that I agree?

Michel grabs Sookie and Lorelai to have a sit down about Chin Chin’s memorial. He wants to hear their ideas, which would be great if they even had any ideas. He talks flowers and stationary and is none too impressed how little thought they are putting into this occasion.  When they start talking food Lor makes her exit only to run into Christopher in the lounge.  He “thinks” they should talk so Lor takes him upstairs to an empty room. Chris points out that hey have some issues (gee…you think, A-hole?) and Lor agrees sarcastically. He explains that he was mad and that he needed some space. Lorelai points out that they are married and if he needs space he walks around the block, he doesn’t disappear with out any word. Not to mention that her father had a heart attack and he was nowhere to be found.  Well he was mad so he had his cell turned off (what are you a 17 year old girl?) but came as soon as he heard. Sure, came stayed and hour and then left again. Chris didn’t want to stick around when he saw who else was there. Lor says she didn’t ask Luke to come, but Chris points out that she didn’t ask him to leave either. Lor reminds Chris that Luke is her friend who brought food and CHRIS WASN’T THERE! Chris said he “checked in” which only angers Lor more, and she lets him know that the whole time she was at the hospital without him part of her wasn’t surprised that he was a no show. Chris says that unfair whereas I am wishing I could reach through the TV and high five Lorelai, because BURN! Lor can’t do this right now; she has a million things to do, so she walks out leaving Chris behind. Doesn’t feel so good does it Hayden? I can’t get over how much I loathe this guy.

Rory calls her Mom, needing some help to get into an Econ mood. She doesn’t want to go to class without her grandfather there. Rory wants to know what the deal is with Chris, and Lorelai acts very nicely trying to explain her husband’s side of things.  Rory calls bullshit, saying that he Mom doesn’t have to make her Switzerland because she’s on Lorelai’s side. No matter what, whether her Mom is right or wrong. I guess it helps that her Mom is totally right this time.

Rory goes into class and HELLO Mr. TA. Yeah, he’s pretty hot with his glasses and jean/suede blazer combo. I’m willing to over look the fact that his name is Tucker, which is huge for me. He introduces himself to Rory and she’s pretty into him since she stumbles over her words and makes no sense whatsoever. Nice to know that it doesn’t all come so easily to her.

Lor comes home and Chris is there. Really? Chris points out that he shouldn’t have left but that letter…Oh you mean character reference? Lor did that for Luke so he could get custody of his kid but Chris is mad because Lor is acting like he’s making up all this in his head. Well…umm you kind of are…aren’t you? No Chris sees the way that Lor looks at Luke. Well she married him, she chose him. Chris brings up the fight that him and Luke got into, which Lorelai didn’t know about until now. Oh really? Chris admits that he pushed Lorelai into marriage too quickly, because they always had this timing issue and if felt like now was the time to go for it. But she had been engaged to Luke and she needed time to disengage from him, and Chris never gave her that.  Lor doesn’t agree, saying that they just need time to work it out. Chris doesn’t think they can and he doesn’t know what else to do. Lor points out that there is A LOT else to do other then just giving up on their marriage. Chris says he’s been asking Lorelai to marry him for twenty years and now that they are married he feels like he’s still asking her. Lor apologizes for making him feel that way because she’s in this marriage for good.  Chris decides to head back to his Mom’s (loser) and they promise to talk more the next day.

The next day at the Inn Michel is complaining to Lorelai about what is being done for his dog’s memorial. He doesn’t feel like anyone is taking it seriously but Lor promises it will be great. Michel snaps some more so Lorelai snaps back, saying that there have been things going on in her life so she’s sorry if she hasn’t focused all her attention on his dog’s funeral. Michel apologizes for any of the inconvenience the death may have caused and stalks off, leaving Lorelai to feel really bad for what she just did.

Paris and Rory are at the bookstore trying to find some of the books Paris had hidden on Rory’s behalf but with no luck. Paris goes to yell at a worker so Rory goes to try and find a used copy. Sure enough Sexy TA Tucker spots her and thanks her for the great reference she gave his grandfather. The talk is pretty normal and Rory almost gets away clean this time, until she mentions a book he’s holding and starts talking like an idiot again. When he leaves and Paris shows up Rory still hasn’t gotten control of her brain.

Back at the Inn and things are in full swing getting ready for the memorial. They’ve got flowers, Sookie has made amazing food and they are forcing all the staff to attend.  They are making it up to Michel in spades.  Lorelai mentions to Sookie that she spoke to Christopher so the chef throws everyone else out of the kitchen. God I love that woman. Ready to dish Lor shares that they only way for her marriage to work is if she cuts Luke out of her life. Wait. No. That is pretty much the WORST thing you could be doing to yourself and this recapper. I live for Luke. Sookie points out that they were friends for years, and when they were together they were really together. Sure Lor is over it and she’s moved on but it’s Luke. Lor knows that Luke was amazing and thoughtful when they were together, hell he even built her a skating rink (I remember that!) but he didn’t want to marry her and Chris did. Ummm…correction. He didn’t want to marry you that exact second when you were wigging out in front of his diner and then came to you less then 24 hours later ready to do it. So shut it. Don’t even pretend that you tried to work it out like you claim Lor, I love you but even I can’t go into such denial. Sookie has a question though, if there was no Luke and had never been a Luke would it be Christopher? Would he be the one? Very good question because Lor seems stumped by that as we go to commercial.

Lorelai has taken Michel to see Zack and pick out music for the memorial. Michel wants “My Heart Will Go On” by Celine Dion and poor Zack begs to not have to play that song. Still Lor grabs the sheet music and gets Zack to do it. Okay I’m Canadian and I’m supposed to love all things Great White North but Celine…no…never, so Zach I feel you buddy. They head out to the printers to approve the programs but Michel wants to stop at Luke’s to get a burger. Seems Chin Chin loved his burgers, and even though he would never usually eat something so unhealthy today he is going to eat one in his memory. Lor leaves him at the diner but not before looking in the window and spotting Luke. He waves and she waves back, and heads across the street looking pretty shook up.

Rory’s come home and found Logan waiting outside her apartment for her, seems he couldn’t wait another day to see her. Rory is beyond happy and she drags him into her apartment. Since they have the place to themselves (Paris is learning belly dancing) Rory decides she needs to talk to her man about something. Wait. Do not mention your slight crush on TA Tucker, don’t do it Rory! Sure enough she starts rambling about things and finally mentions her feelings for the Tucker and how sorry she is. Logan says its just a crush, and he finds other woman attractive too but he doesn’t do anything about it because he loves her and wants to be with her. He blames himself for being so jealous about Marty that he’s wigged her out but he promises he feels good about them. Once that is cleared up they head off to watch Paris and her belly dancing, oh the romance.

The memorial is beautiful and there’s Zack, soulfully playing Celine on his guitar.  Lorelai is just gazing off into the distance, and trying really hard not to cry. Ugh oh.

Lore comes home and Chris is there, time for talk number 2. Lor starts off by saying that it’s not just Luke, because she does have feelings for him, and she jumped too quickly. But if that was all there was they could fix it with time. Chris had always been this possibility for her but it’s just not right and she’s so sorry. They both start crying and she tells him he is the man she wants to want. He has no idea how badly she wishes…but he stops her, saying he does know. They hold hands and cry and we fade to black. I know I should be whooping for joy right now but mostly I just want to yell at the writers for wasting the first half of this season and making me hate Chris so much more then I already did.

Tune In Next Week: Star’s Hollow is a buzz about what may or may not be going on with Lorelai and Christopher, while Lor has to break the news of her broken marriage to her daughter.

Being born and raised amongst the igloos of Canada shaped Whirl’s love of hockey, beer and the warmth of the television screen. Though she refuses to wear spandex she has sworn to use her powers of sarcasm for the greater good of man kind, and disguises herself daily as a mild mannered office clerk. Oh yeah, and she’s not too bad at Trivial Pursuit. Seriously. Seriously.

When you started with the naked Luke thing, I was angry because the GG I watched was on regular TV and they cut that part out!!! Next time include pictures!!! =) Great recap!

Such a great recap! I missed the first 30 minutes of this episode and this definitely caught me up. When I read those first two sentences and saw, “Luke naked” I almost died because I thought I’d missed that =P

And I’m so annoyed that this season even bothered to bring Christopher and Lorelai together. It’s almost as if they think she had to marry him just to get it out of her system and find out what it would be like so she could be with Luke with no regrets. It’s just made this season drag though.

Whirl – so agree with you on the wasted time on this Chris thing. And I didn’t hate him before, now I do. I am sure they will do something before this is all over to make me neutral on his character once again. Or maybe he will fade away never to be mentioned again, in true GG style, a shadow of a character from the beginning.

Any one else want to smack Paris right now??? Leave Rory alone – her Gpa just had heart surgery. Besides, she is gonna marry a Hunstberger (we hope), she has plenty of time to decide what she wants to do after graduation. Oh, and she is more employable than Paris any day.

Speaking of Huntsberger – how cute is it that she told him about the Proff and he was all fine with it? However, I don’t want to think he is OK with it because he has something else going on. Why is it that this show always makes me think there is something horrible looming in the future and that the characters can’t stay happy?

coloradokila – I know…I have this Logan cheating fear like you wouldn’t believe. And the characters can’t stay happy, because the writers wont let both Rory and Lorelai be content at the same time. So once Lor gets her act together, lets watch Rory’s life fall apart.

    Sigh.

Like you all, I’m TERRIFIED that Logan’s got someone going on the side. So scared. I’m watching his every move.

Also, that naked Luke thing…I’m sending you the bills for my hospital stay after that heart attack. 😉

“Chris says that unfair whereas I am wishing I could reach through the TV and high five Lorelai, because BURN!”

You captured my thoughts PERFECTLY. Also, here:

“. . . but he didn’t want to marry her and Chris did. Ummm…correction. He didn’t want to marry you that exact second when you were wigging out in front of his diner and then came to you less then 24 hours later ready to do it. So shut it.”

I also think that Logan’s got someone on the side too. Since the writers have destroyed the love lives of both Gilmore girls, so it’s entirely possible. I didn’t like the Chris story line.

“. . . but he didn’t want to marry her and Chris did. Ummm…correction. He didn’t want to marry you that exact second when you were wigging out in front of his diner and then came to you less then 24 hours later ready to do it. So shut it.”

Didn’t Luke say that he doesn’t do well with ultimatiums?? She gave him one and he flat out said no. She was ready and he wasn’t. Part of me wasn’t surprised that she married Chris because she wanted to be married, just got the wrong guy because the right now rejected her.
