Wow. It certainly came in handy that Assad was a former bomb making terrorist mastermind, because a man like that can spot a bomb – or at least the leakage of a bomb – ANYWHERE. And I’m also really glad that he chose to protect President Palmer and get him out of the room instead of just running and trying to save his own skin. Certainly proves that he’s sincere in his desire to have peace and work with the U.S. – despite what that Ambassador from the conveniently not-named-for-obvious-real-life-political-reasons Arab country thinks. But man, those last five minutes of 24 tonight sure were nail biters, weren’t they? I mean, this show regularly slaughters main characters, so for a while there, I really thought Palmer and Assad were goners! Now that was some darn good television.
I was also glad to hear that Weasel Tom – who survived the episode, barely – was against Chad Lowe from the start, and was just playing him the whole time. I guess then that I was right in thinking he was probably going along with Lowe’s evil plan in order to gain some sort of glory and better standing with the President by catching a would-be assassin. Too bad Weasel Tom waited so long to contact the secret service about the threat – and speaking of, whatever happened to the secret service agent Tom called? Wouldn’t that be a red flag to any competent secret service guy that when a higher up, who suddenly contacted you and claimed to have very important information about the President’s security, doesn’t show up when he says he will, that maybe – just maybe – something went horribly wrong? Especially since no one can seem to find him or get a hold of him since then? And that maybe – just maybe – you should start trying to find this individual, and alert other agents of a possible threat?? I’m just saying.
Speaking of weaselly characters who are maybe redeeming themselves, time will only tell if Bearded Logan has really changed and sincerely wants to help Jack and the government, no strings attached. I don’t know… there’s something inherently sinister about the man that makes it hard for me to trust him. Even when he was reciting that Bible quote to himself in the mirror… it was creepy. Of course, the music they played during that scene was creepy as well, so that certainly contributes to my distrust of Bearded Logan. I’m telling you, people, the music on this show definitely tells you who is good and who is bad, and also if something is about to go wrong. Pay attention to the music next time, if you don’t already – you’ll see what I mean.
But anyway, I’m glad that Wayne was able to get over his hatred for his brother’s murderer and blindly trust Jack (like everyone should) and sign Bearded Logan’s release before that bomb went off. From the preview for next week’s episode, it looks like Wayne survived the bomb – but only barely, and thus the evil Vice President gets to take over the office anyway. Still not sure if Assad survives – I really hope he does, because that would be veeeery bad for the U.S.’s chances of stopping arab terrorists if Assad were killed. Stupid Chad Lowe with his “we’re not cold blooded murderers, we’re just trying to save our country” moral excuses. Talk about a psycho.
And speaking of psychos, I’m not sure who is worse at this point: Gredenko or Fayed. They sure seem to be building up Gredenko a lot though, lately, which will certainly help the writers stretch things out for 13 more hours in order to hit that magic 24 hour mark. Yeah, I’ve seen every episode of this show since Season 1, so I really know the formula at this point. But oh well, I don’t mind: as long as the episodes are as good and thrilling as tonight’s, than bring on the plot stretching, baby!
Final Note: Poor Morris. I seem to be saying this every week now, but seriously, this guy’s luck just can’t seem to improve. And was that final scene of him dumping the whiskey bottle down the drain in the bathroom after a crazy-suspicious Chloe confronted him supposed to indicate that he had, in fact, been drinking – despite his vehement denials? I dunno… but I really hope things get better for Morris, because I like him and want him to stick around. Then again… most of the characters I really like end up dying, so, um, I hate Morris! Sure would be a waste to kill him, yes sir, because no one cares! Yeah…
Final Final Note: So Jack said goodbye to his now safe “nephew” by promising the lad that when this is all over, he would go and have a talk with the boy and explain everything to him. And seen as how this is exactly what Jack said to Brady Corbett last year – and that never happened – I think this pretty much means that we’ve seen the last of this kid, and that alas, we will never know if he was really Jack’s son. Though, that final caress Jack gave to Mrs. G. certainly left that possibility open. Oh Jack, you dog.

And of course, LaLa also loves her some quality television shows with quality actors on them, like House… and The Office… and 24… and, well, pretty much any smartly written show that doesn’t include a fat guy with a hot skinny wife or the words “two and a half men” in the title.
Nice recap LaLa! It was a great episode, as usual. In regards to weasel Tom calling the secret service, IIRC the evil Chad Lowe called them back “on Tom’s behalf” and said that the issue had been resloved and no longer required the meeting. But agreed, they should totally be looking for him. I’m guessing they will now.
And I am not trusting that Logan either. Me thinks he’s gone a wee bit ape shit during his house arrest, add that to his inherent evil and muah ha ha… could be interesting.
Morris… I dunno about him… My spidey sense is tingling. I’ve gotten a weird vibe from his behaviour from the start. Is he just really weak or is there more? I can’t believe he wouldn’t set up some kind of trick arming those devices. I think just when Chloe lets him off the hook we may learn something interesting about poor Morris. We’ll see!!
Awsome re-cap.
I was glad to see Logan return, even though I hated him his character was more interesting then the current President. (Maybe Powers Boothe will have more air time soon!!)
Anyone else get the feeling that Logan only wants to get out of his ranch to go find his wife who is prob in Bermuda with Aaron.
IMHO Morris storyline is dead and boring minus the great Chloe moments.
I’ve never watched before, but I was kind of creeped out by the Logan guy. And I admit that the current president isn’t all that amazing but I thought he was pretty good when he was “persuading” the ambassador to get on the phone with his country’s leader and have them issue a statement. I was impressed.
Jack looks pretty hot in a suit, too. Did he borrow it from the expresident guy?
Yes, YES!! Jack in a suit…. a very nice plot development 🙂
Great recap LaLa. And it’s great that they brought back Bearded Logan. Can’t wait to find out if he’s really repented or really out to do some damage. Gregory Itzen is so good it’s almost impossible to tell.
Clare’s right about why the security guy didn’t follow up w/ Tom; Lowe’s character covered that. BUT…when Tom didn’t show up constantly after being asked about (especially when the President wanted to see him), now that was suspicious. They couldn’t tell Lowe was being fishy?! Oh, yeah, and his whole “we’re not cold blooded murderers” speech…umm..you’re murdering a President. Sigh.
I got tired of Chloe constantly interrogating Morris. Yes, i understand she is concerned but even i was getting annoyed w/ her–i can’t imagine what Morris was feeling. That storyline was getting a little annoying. I love Morris though so i don’t want anything to happen to him.
On the whole Logan front: don’t trust him a bit. And Jack in a suit: niiiiiiice. Oh, and i hope Assad didn’t die either…and i hope Lowe gets his ass kicked. This whole trying to redeem himself and protect Tom…i just don’t buy it. Lowe deserves whatever comes his way, and he’s still a bad guy no matter what he says in his defense.
Great recap, LaLa! 😀
Logan is totally creepy in this season. But I’m glad he’s back, adds a new twist. Do you think he’ll try to escape at the Russian consulate since CTU has no jurisdiction there?
Who knew that it’s possible to fashion a bomb from the ink suctioned from a Sharpie? Anyway, I’m glad Logan is back, too. Last season I wanted him to die a horrible, torture-filled death, but he’s so interesting, too, so I can’t decide which I want more: more screen time for him, or a grisly death. Maybe both. He seems pretty redemptive to me, but I’ve been gullible before, so we’ll see…
Thanks for the recap!
As far as Jack’s “nephew,” I really hope the kid IS his nephew and not actually his son. Aside from the light hair, I think he actually looks more like Graem – though when I first saw the kid, the blond hair did kind of scream “This is really Jack’s son!” My whole problem with the possibility that it’s Jack’s son is that this boy is obviously younger than Jack’s daughter Kim, which would mean Jack cheated on Teri with someone else, not just Nina. Especially given Graem’s comment to Jack about his “dead wife” earlier this season, I would hate to think the writers would cheapen the Jack/Teri relationship by making Jack the real father of Marilyn’s son.
Sorry so long – can you tell that’s been bothering me for a while now? 😉
