Prison Break Star on Grey’s Anatomy
March 8, 2007 by Kath Skerry
The more I hear about the new Grey’s Anatomy spin-off the less excited I am for it. Yesterday came the news that Tim Daly was being cast as the new, older, and way less sexy version of McDreamy. I wonder if Shonda Rhimes know that Tim Daly’s show always get canceled. He’s a show killer with a lengthy track record.
Daly isn’t the casting notice that really bummed me out though. It’s when I heard that Paul Adelstein was coming on board that I got all kinds of fired up. For those of you who don’t know Paul by name, he plays Agent Paul Kellerman on Prison Break. His maniacal good cop/bad cop role is one of the best things about Prison Break and I would be so bummed to see him leave. But I suppose if you have a the chance to join a Shonda Rhimes show, you don’t turn it down to stay on a Fox show with a shelf life. But still, I’m not happy.
News about the Grey’s spin-off is very hush hush. The stars that have been rumored to be attached to the project, including Daly, Adelstein, and Taye Diggs, have only been listed as guest stars on the special 2-hour episode of Grey’s Anatomy that will lead into the spin-off. Shonda knows how to keep a secret, but this is one time it might be best for her to speak up and do some damage control.

Paul Adelstein is not listed on the Paley Festival list for the Prison Break “episode.” Just Marty, the producer- is he related?
It’s hard to believe that Paul isn’t going to be there- he’s such an integral part of the show.
Why should Shonda do “damage control”? What’s the damage out there? Sure, Daly has been a show-killer lately, but am I missing something in your post? If anything, I think the spin-off sounds awesome, even if that horrible actor but nice guy Chris Lowell really does join the cast.
I have to say, when I heard that Tim Daly and Paul Adelstein were joining the cast, it actually made me EXCITED for the show for the first time. Tim Daly might not have had great success with his last two shows, but he is super-sexy and a greatly charismatic actor to boot. I think he will be a great love interest for Kate Walsh. And Paul Adelstein plays cocky asshole so well! I would miss him on Prison Break, but his character is about to run out of things to do anyway by the end of this season.
If they have to do a spinoff and get rid of one of the only characters I still can tolerate on Grey’s, at least they are getting her some good support along the way.
I read somewhere recently, I think on tvguide.com, that Paul Adelstein was originally offered the role of Dr. Burke on Grey’s but turned it down to do Prison Break instead. Just imagine how different the world would have been with him in that role and no IW scandals afoot.
With Tim Daly already filling the show killer role, I’m going to seriously start to worry if they consider casting Eric Balfour. Also, not that I’m complaining about hot men on this show, but will there be any other women in lead roles?
[…] makes this the third casting announcement this week. First was Tim Daly (boooooooo), next was Prison Break’s baddie Paul Adelstein (Agent Kellerman) and now Piz. This cast is getting out of control. I can only hope Shonda can live […]
