Heroes at the Paley Festival…Kinda

Let me first start off by saying, that I wasn’t lucky enough to attend the Heroes panel at the Paley Festival. Heroes was one of the first events to sell out, I sadly wasn’t able to snag any tickets, but that didn’t stop me from seeing the cast up close. While the rest of the event goers were standing behind a make shift security line as the cast walked the press line, I was actually able to get right up with the press. I wasn’t working the line myself but being friendly with those who are legit press has its privileges. So I got to listen in as E!’s TV Diva, Kristin Veitch, interviewed all the stars. It was a great experience for me…thanks E! peeps, I’ll be a “producer” for you anytime 🙂
Before the cast could actually make it to the press line they had to come right by me…I mean right by me, as in I had to move back so they could pass. So what can I tell you?
Well, first off Ali Larter (Niki) is just as stunning in person as she is on the show. But the girl is skinny with a capital “S”. Her legs were like toothpicks. I’m not saying she looked bad because she didn’t, but the camera really does add 10 lbs.
Milo Ventimiglia (Peter) is a cutie patootie, but a little too short for my taste. I like ’em tall. I know he’s Peter Petrelli now, but he’ll always be Jess from Gilmore Girls to me.
Hayden Panettiere (Claire) is a very beautiful girl whom they put WAY too much makeup on, on this particular night. I’m sure it was for the cameras at all, but it almost took away from how naturally pretty and cute she is. Anyone else feel old seeing Hayden all grown up? I heard through the grapevine that she is still with Laguna Beach’s Stephen. WOW! Is that even possible? And does she call him Ste-phen like KCavs did? Hmm, things that keep me up at night 😉
Adrian Pasdar (Nathan) is sexy in his blue jeans baby. He makes the salt and pepper hair work for him…yum! I’m glad I didn’t get to interview him because I probably would have just wanted to talk about the Dixie Chicks the whole time. Sorry, but I love the Chicks!!
Noah Gray-Cabey (Micah) is too cute for words. I really wanted to scoop him up and carry him around on my back all night. I see a Noah/Jaden Smith buddy flick in the future. He seemed so well spoken. I usually hate child actors (they creep me out), but he looked and sounded like a little kid, albeit a smart one. Adorable.
The rest of the cast came through and I was pretty excited. For those of you who listen to the GMMR/DuckyxDale TV podcast, you know that I’m a few episodes behind in Heroes. Ugh, I know. But I surprised myself how many of the characters I knew and recognized. I was bummed that I wasn’t there when Masi Oka came through (he’s another cutie), and I left the press line just as one of my favorites of all time, Greg Grunberg, walked through. I mean…Greg Grunberg! Felicity! Alias! He did walk past me so I saw him up close but it was just for a second.
The event got underway, and there were a LOT of fans who had waited in line forever who were turned away because there were just no extra tickets. And dude, some of those people were scary…sorry, but they were.

Nooooo!!! Ok, I know you all might think that I have a short memory or something, but seriously, I do not want 24 to kill off Logan!! He is such an awesome character, especially now that he’s been re-born as a bearded, renewed purpose on life, Al Gore-type of character (which is apparently how Gregory Itzin sees him, interestingly enough). I for one really like the new Bearded Logan, and I like the fact that he is suddenly awesome on foreign policy and is essentially playing the same role that David Palmer did in Season 4 (i.e. the whole former President coming to advise and solve the clueless new President’s foreign policy problems). So I’m going to be really mad if he’s dead by the next episode – and that beeeeeeep flatlining in the ambulance was a big clue that that will happen. Boooooooo!!

Karen vs. Pam: A Ken Burns-esque Mocumentary

Check out this hilarious take on the The Office’s Karen vs. Pam saga in this spook based on the works of famous documentarian Ken Burns.
Every Karen/Pam video lends itself to an open debate, and gives me the chance to once again say Teeeeeeeaaaaaammm PAM!!!
Listen, Greg, Paul, Michael, Gene, Lee, Mindy, BJ, Brent, Jennifer and any other Office writer who I am blanking on at the moment – I don’t know how much more of this I can take. Can’t Karen and Roy go off an make beautiful babies together already? I don’t mean to beat a dead horse but knowing that Karen is still around feels like I am being held under water just waiting to come to the surface to catch a breath. And that breath is named Jim and Pam.
Yeah, that was way too over dramatic, but I’m sorry…I just miss them. I miss their friendship. I miss them having fun together and enjoying each other’s company. I understand if TPTB can’t put them together romantically at this point in time (for whatever reason), but please just have Jim stop using Karen as a barrier to guard his heart Pam (sorry but I’m enjoying the melodrama of it all today). Enough already…I just miss JAM.
(…and here I was just going to post the video and leave it at that).

It seems like I’ve been gone forever, but I am finally back home in Boston. California was wonderful – a trip I’ll never forget, but I was so excited to see my apartment this morning. I realize things have been a little up and down on GMMR for the past few weeks since I’ve been traveling so much, but we are definitely back to our regularly scheduled programming. Thanks for your patience.
I’ve still got some fun stuff to share including notes from the Prison Break panel at the Paley Festival, a fun night at The Lampshades, and getting an up close view of some Heroes. Oh and a few more celebrity sightings.
James Van Der Beek Cast in “Football Wives”

I’m not sure how this one escaped my attention, but my boy Ducky is reporting that James Van Der Beek has been cast in Football Wives, the US remake of the UK hit Footballers Wive$. The idea of seeing The Beek back in weekly television just makes me thrilled. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think The Beek is the next Brando, but he’s a Creeker and I always support my Creekers.
I have a theory on why James got this show. See I think the Gods were taking a much needed coffee break and while they were adding the Splenda, Xenu snuck in and snatched up Katie Holmes. Ever since Xenu delivered Katie to Tom, the Gods have been feeling all kinds of guilty and they have been giving the kids of The Creek some pretty good breaks. Nothing major – I mean they don’t want to be obvious out it. It all started with Michelle Williams and that Academy Award nomination. Knowing that Josh Jackson will make it big on his own sometime in the near future, the Gods blessed him with a really hot girlfriend and some interesting stage roles that let him let go of “Pacey”. The Beek has this new show coming out. Hell even Jack and Andie have dabbled in their own shows.
Xenu, you might have Joey Potter but that’s all you’re going to get. Back off or we’re going to send Deputy Doug after you.

A little Saturday morning fun for us couch potatoes. This gadget runs a close second to Wenty or Jkras delivering beers to my couch in boxers and a wife beater (ok, maybe it’s a distant second).

For the second straight week I felt a little underwhelmed by 30 Rock. I don’t know, maybe it’s The Office hiatus that has me off-kilter, or the run of great episodes Tina Fey and Co. put up the last two months that raised the bar unfairly.
That said, there was a lot to laugh at and rave about in “The Fighting Irish.”
The premise is that Jack (Alec Baldwin) tries to help out his down-and-out brother Eddie (Nathan Lane. Why not an actual Baldwin brother?). At the same time, Jack tells Liz to cut staff. Does she have the heart for it? And Tracy seeks finds religion, a couple of times.
Slingbox…anyone?

We interrupt out regulary scheduled TV talk for a Tech break. As most of you know, I am traveling a fair amount with my new job. I feel so far behind on my TV watching because of it. I’ve heard a lot about the Slingbox but yet I haven’t come across anyone that actually owns one. I guess a Slingbox will allow me to access my DVR from my computer while I’m traveling. If you have a Slingbox or know someone who does, let me know so I can get a first hand account on how it works.
And if you work for Slingbox and can steal one and send it my way, please do so. It’s a fair amount of money to shell out for something that will help my TV watching life easier.
More Celeb Sightings

STILL here kickin’ it on the West Coast. One day I’ll make it back to Boston…I hope. Since I had a few minutes I thought I would update you on a few more of my celebrity sightings.
As you know, last week I was blessed with seeing John Krasinski and Ryan Gosling (sadly not together). But good sightings all the same.
Last night I saw Sean Penn at the airport in San Fran. He’s a little scary looking. I kind of dropped my bag his way as I was getting out of security and when I looked up and realized it was him I quickly moved. The guy has clearly never heard of sunscreen. This is the same man who married Princess Buttercup?!
Just about 15 minutes ago I spotted Harry Hamlin at the courtyard where I was eating lunch. Now unlike Sean Penn, Harry is much better looking in person. I thought he would look a little worse for the wear, but he looked very handsome in his jeans and blazer. He was chatting on his cell phone and kept walking over to where I was standing. Clearly he was trying to eavesdrop on my conversation with Ducky. Looks like Aaron Echolls is still among the living.
Moments after spotting Harry, I was walking back to my hotel when Jami Gertz strolled by. I know that Jami Gertz has been around forever and a day (most recently in “Still Standing”) but for some reason my first thought was “hey, that’s the girl from ‘Twister’. Well that’s a bit of a lie, my first thought was that she was in Gremlins, but she wasn’t.
Enjoy it now…

I’m going to go ahead and enjoy this gorgeous pic of Wentworth Miller. You know why? It might be the only time I see him today. Rumors are swirling that Wenty has a conflict and won’t be attending tonight Prison Break panel at The Paley Festival. Am I bummed? Hmmm, let’s think about that one. Um – YES!! No JKras last week and now no Wentworth? How disappointing. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that circumstances change and he’ll be there tonight. I mean Steve Carell wasn’t scheduled to show for The Office panel and he was there. Please…please…pretty please with Wentworth Miller on top?!
American Idol…WTF??

Ha ha America…we get it – you have all the control, but now let’s end this joke, shall we? I’m sorry but if you have two working ears and you aren’t a member of Sanjaya’s family then you have NO business voting for that guy. You really think he has what it takes to be the next American Idol? Come on now. I’m not saying Sundance Head was going to take home the big prize, but booting him in favor of Sanjaya? That’s just B.S. The other guy to go home was Jared Cotter. I kind of liked him but I can see why he went home.
Things aren’t any better on the girls side. Good thing Haley Scarnato will be again another week and the fantastic Sabrina Sloan is going home. I honestly just don’t get it. At least Antonella Barba is gone (although she should have been given the boot week one).
I really wish the teenyboppers and grannies would start voting for the best singers, and not the ones they find cute or look or have sympathy for. These types of outcomes actually hurt the integrity of the show.

My Day on the set of THE OFFICE (Part II)

It’s Office Thursday (late but it’s still Thursday)!!! I thought I could use our weekly Office Thursday time to share Part II “my day on the set of The Office”. During Part I, I rambled at length about how we spent our day, but what I didn’t really get into was the experience of meeting the cast. And what a thrill it was. So to that end, let’s get to it.
First off I should say that Jennie and I were invited to observe day of filming for The Office. It was a work day for the cast and crew, so despite all the access we had, it wasn’t the time to interview the cast. So I know many of you asked what type of questions I asked – but it really wasn’t about that. Maybe some other time. Sorry that I don’t have any pics of the cast without me, but a girl has to remember the day somehow, right? Feel free to click on the pics to enlarge them (and sorry but one you might have to click again once they are enlarged as they are a bit distorted after the first click). Oh, and I’m really, really sorry about how long this post is. If I were a better writer I could be more succinct – but sadly for you and I both, I’m not.
Hmm, where to begin. I guess I should start with my first cast sighting. The first time I saw a Dunder Mifflinite was actually on the monitors. Pam and Phyllis were having a little chat in the conference room. At first I was trying to place the episode in which this scene took place. It hadn’t really hit me yet that the little TVs we were watching were a direct feed from the next room where they were filming. Within a few minutes I had settled in and was watching Michael, Dwight and the ladies film a scene. And then it happened – the camera panned over and BOOM! there was Krasinski. Now I must tell you that I had convinced myself that John wasn’t going to be on set. I thought for sure he was going to be down South filming Leatherheads. But nope, there he was in all his tall and lanky glory. It didn’t suck.
Ed Helms was the first cast member that Jennie and I were able to meet and talk with. Actually over the course of the day we probably saw Ed more than anyone else in the cast. My first instinct was YEAH Andy is back, and then WOW he looks SO different than he did on The Daily Show – so much younger (must be the lack of glasses). We were chatting it up a little with Ed about his time on TDS, how happy he was by the fans immediate response to Andy, and even checked out some YouTube video of him and his band The Lonesome Trio. Ed was a really sweet guy and I’m so glad he is now a series regular on the show.
American Idol Recap – Top 8 Ladies Night

After another week of BORING performances from the guys, it’s the ladies turn to shine. Can I just say that American Idol is such a shared experience. Tonight at the hotel bar I bonded with the women next to me over all things Idol, our love for Melinda Doolittle and the fact that Simon is usually right (not matter how hard that is to say). Oh Idol – bringing people together.
So let’s get started shall we? Ryan is screaming metrosexual tonight – even more so than usual.
First up…
Jordin Sparks – Jordin is rocking out to a Pat Benatar song. Ms. Jordin was a little off tonight. She has a great talent, but she missed a few notes. And to be honest the backup singers and the band were overpowering her. That being said she was still better than most of the guys last night. Paula and Randy were all about her and Simon thinks she’ll stick around but that tonight wasn’t her best performance.
Sabrina Sloan – I really like this girl. I think she keeps getting overshadowed by LaKisha and Melinda, but she’s consistently great. Again I was a little distracted by the backup singers, but maybe it was just the levels. This girl can sing, and I’d like to see her to do well with in this competition. Randy was just ok about her. Paula really liked her. Simon thinks she’s a great singer but lacks emotion and personality.
