Go Towards the Light
April 16, 2007 by Kath Skerry
If you’ve watched CNN or any of the early shows then you might know that the East Coast is being hit with one hell of a storm. I got up at the wee hours of the morning to get some work done before heading out this afternoon to watch one of my best friends run the Boston Marathon. Unfortunately I’ve been without electricity all morning. It keeps going in and out…so annoying. Before we lost power again I thought I would let you know what I’m up against. So crazy!! Anyway, sorry if things are a bit slow around here today. Why can’t it just be summer already?!
To everyone running the Boston Marathon today…BEST OF LUCK!! The weather sucks but it will all be worth it when it’s over. And I hope all you GMMRers can send some well wishes to my friend STEPHANIE who is running her very first Boston Marathon today. GO STEPHA!!!

As a student at BU, I feel both your pain and your excitement. Yay Marathon Monday!
good luck to your friend. i have a friend there as well but i’m only cheering from here in jersey-a day off from school b/c of the weather. at least it’s not hot-that would be worse for those marathoners!
One of my favorite days of the year when I was a student at Wellesley. There’s nothing quite like kisses from gross sweaty old men. It’s a shame – it was cold last year, too!
Good luck to your friend!
Several of my friends are running this year, and man – what a year! 30 degrees at the start, 3-5 inches of rain predicted, and a HEADWIND the entire way, including gusts of up to 50 mph. What is a hero? Those runners are heros? (also Hiro from Heroes – he’s a hero)
What’s the big deal about running the Boston Marathon. I could totally do that on my skateboard. Speedwise, I’m somewhere between a snake and a mongoose. And a panther.

Not like you didn’t see this coming from me:
Barney: I could run a marathon any time I wanted to.
Marshall: So, like tomorrow, you could roll out of bed and just run the New York City Marathon.
Barney: Absolutely.
Robin: Barney, we are talking about 42 kilometers.
Ted: Thanks Canada, I’ll take it from here. Barney that’s like 26 miles.
Seriously though, you are adding to the large number of us that have gone without power lately….I’m staying away so I don’t catch that problem 🙂
I was at the marathon! My best friend Erin ran. I’m also from the area but extremely lucky to not lose power. AAah, Boston. Gotta love an event that shuts down entire cities for nearly a day. I was at the finish line. I had the day off (Patriots Day!) but even if I did have work, my work is right on Boylston St right after the turn on Hereford.
Congrats to all the runners. It was a difficult journey this year.
I saw on the news that some gal in space is running the marathon on a treadmill and is considered a legal participant in the race.
