The Office Recap: Safety Training

The Office: Safety Training

I only have myself to blame, but it’s rather depressing to wait all week for a new episode of The Office only to have it be over in what feels like just minutes after it starts. Now it’s not depressing enough to jump off a roof…I mean, I’m not an ignorant slut.

Although I can’t say that this was my favorite episode of The Office, it didn’t disappoint. And to be honest, it’s getting better with each viewing (it’s about 11:30pm now and I’m on my 3rd viewing). For the second week in a row we had a healthy dose of Darryl, and he’s the zoppity so I can’t really complain. I thought the cold open and the beginning scenes with the safety training sessions were a little slow, but the episode really picked up in the second half.

So what went down? (TWSS). It’s safety training day at Dunder Mifflin and the office employees attend a safety seminar down in the warehouse. Like most of the training sessions at DM, this one was pretty much for Michael’s benefit. Darryl did his best to explain the equipment and instructed all (Michael) that the warehouse is a dangerous place if one isn’t careful. Of course not to be outdone, Michael sets out to prove that the office is a dangerous environment as well. The warehouse workers join the office employees in learning the risks of working in an office which include carpel tunnel syndrome, seasonal mood disorders, and fat butt disease. Darryl thinks Michael leaves a cushy life…“sittin’ on your biscuit, never havin’ to risk it.”

The quality isn’t the best but this Grey’s Anatomy gag reel is pretty funny. I’m not sure where these things come from or if they’ve already made the rounds but this is my first time seeing it so I was thinking it might be new for some of you too. I’m banking on this video not being from the Grey’s Anatomy DVD since the language is rather….adult. Don’t say I didn’t warn you. Enjoy!!

The Office Thursday on Give Me My Remote

I’m going to be fast with today’s The Office Thursday. Well, not too fast. Not like wham bam thank you ma’am. But I do say thank you ma’am. But um…not like wham bam. Not that there’s anything wrong with wham bam…not if it’s consensual. I just have a full day of selling paper and pulling pranks that just must get done before The Office is on tonight. So let’s get to it, shall we?

UPDATE: I almost forgot…Angela Kinsey will be a guest on Late Night with David Letterman tomorrow night!! Make sure to set your TiVos. Best of luck to you Angela!!

From the desk of Meredith Palmer…
Kate Flannery (Meredith Palmer) on The OfficeThis week Meredith is drunk again. Someone gets this woman to AA quick. Actually let’s hold off on that and see if we can’t get any spoilers out of her first. She already told that Jim and Pam don’t get together (well at least in this week’s episode) and that Jan has some great storylines coming up. Hey, at least that’s something. She’s got a lot more to say so make sure you check out her latest blog. (Kate’s Blog)

Rainn Wilson and his son Walter Check out this ADORABLE photo of Rainn Wilson and his 2 1/2 year old son, Walter, from InStyle Magazine. Too cute for words. I can’t get over how different Rainn looks when he’s not sporting Dwight hair or Dwight’s glasses. I just want to squash both of them (that’s a good thing in case you were confused). Friday Night Lights Finale Redux

Friday Night Lights

Kyle Chandler recently said (and I’m paraphrasing here) there are two types of people – “those who love this show and those who have never seen it”. I truly believe that Friday Night Lights is the BEST drama on TV today. It’s deep, rich and complex yet at the same time it’s simplistic in its approach to storytelling. Last night was the season finale of the show, and so here’s a brief recap and a few of the most memorable moments.

Friday Night Lights Season Finale Recap…
As the Dillon Panthers (along with the whole town of Dillon) are preparing to head to Dallas for the State Championship game, Tami Taylor is preparing for a whole new life as she finds out that she’s pregnant. Matt Saracen continues to be really hurt by the coach’s decision to leave Dillon for TMU. Landry tries to play it cool when Tyra asks him to drive with her to Dallas, and tries to keep his cool when it turns into the road trip from hell after Tyra’s sister, mother, Matt’s grandmother and even Lyla Garrity join them for the ride.

Finally in Dallas the team has their press day and Coach Taylor is confronted with the rumors about his position at TMU. He reluctantly confirms that he is leaving as the players listen in. At the team dinner that night the coach announces his plans to coach at TMU and enjoys support from everyone in the room – except for his players. Later that night Tami tells Eric that she’s pregnant and they share one of those scenes which make Friday Nights Lights so special. Amazing!

Another One Leaves American Idol

If you’re looking to find out who got kicked off on tonight’s episode of AMERICAN IDOL, check it out here: Who Went Home on AMERICAN IDOL (March 26, 2009)

American Idol ResultsThe results are in and no, Sanjaya didn’t go home tonight. Sorry, but I just had to get that out of the way. The bottom three tonight were Chris Richardson, Phil Stacey and Haley Scarnato, but in the end it was….oh wait, there was much more to the show than the results.

First up we had a performance by Akon. Is that how you spell his name? I don’t have a clue, I thought his name was Acorn until about two weeks ago. I didn’t know he was going to be on tonight. Seacrest tells me that we can vote to see who I want to see perform on a future American Idol results show. Unfortunately there’s a list of artists to choose from so my dreams of reuniting the New Kids on the Block have already been dashed. Some day…some day.

Jennifer Lopez was next to perform and get this – SHE DIDN’T LIP SYNCH!! I was truly shocked. Although, as much as I love me some Jenny from the block, I might have liked her to lip synch a bit. The woman is hot as hell, and a fantastic entertainer, but her voice is more suited for the studio than a live setting. That being said, I was glad she went out there and sang live.

Ok so the results. As predicted last night right here on this very blog (and probably half a million others), it was Haley Scarnato and Phil Stacey in the bottom two. And although I predicted that Phil would unfairly leave, it was Haley that was sent home tonight. Leaving with Haley are a boat load of guys that were just watching the show to see her in hot pants.

So Haley’s gone. Sanjaya’s still here. And I convinced that this is the worst season of Idol…ever. When does So You Think You Can Dance come back?!

Reunited: Real World – A Social Experiment?

Reunited: Real World - A Social Experiment?

Remember when The Real World first premiered and it was akin to a social experiment? Put seven strangers from various social, economic and geographic background and see what happens when they stop being polite, and well, you know the rest. Back in the day Julie, Eric, Heather B and the others housemates lived their lives in relative obscurity. No one knew who they were, or why cameras were following them. Remember, The Real World was essentially the first reality show. Being a reality TV star just didn’t exist.

But after the first season aired looking in on the lives of seven strangers seemed a bit less authentic when they knew we were watching them. The Real World slowly turned into a platform for self promotion, and being famous for doing nothing became a part of our culture. I’m not sure when Bunim and Murray, the producers behind the show, just gave up on trying to create something organic, but they most certainly did. The Real World soon became a freak show where the only qualifications seemed to be a nice body, a tendency for promiscuity, and a love of hot tubs. If you were pretty and had Daddy issues you were an ideal housemate. Of course the producers sought out those with emotional issues as a way to create drama in the house and disguise it as a lesson akin to an after school special. Each season you could count on at least one gay character, someone that had race relation issues, and of course the housemate one the verge of entering AA.

I resisted posting today’s Watchlist. By posting it I had to come to terms with the fact that tonight is the season finale of Friday Night Lights. It’s a sad day in my house. But it will be back next season…keep the faith. Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Must be Renewed!

MeeVee RecommendsJericho — A.K.A
Bad news comes to town yet again when Eric doesn’t return from New Bern with the other men. There’s going to be some upset folks. Then, boy-wonder Jake has a light bulb moment, and realizes the deal Jericho made with the neighboring town is in serious jeopardy. Can he save the day yet again? Watch a scene from tonight’s episode

MeeVee RecommendsAmerica’s Next Top Model — The Girl Who Impresses Pedro
Efren Ramirez and Tia Mowry give the models a crash course in character acting (which will be quite redundant for some of these drama queens). The girls then participate in an acting/modeling challenge. The main photo shoot highlights scandalous moments from past seasons and features previous contestants. Fingers crossed for a montage!

LostOne of Us
Jack’s happy reunion with his fellow castaways is cut short when they realize he’s accompanied by Juliet; and Claire is stricken by a mysterious, life-threatening illness. Flashbacks follow Juliet.

American Idol
Someone’s going home and Jennifer Lopez lip synchs a song from her new album. I predicted right here on GMMR last night that either Phil or Haley will go home. For some reason I have this nagging feeling that something shocking will go down and it will be LaKisha that says goodbye. I hope not, because she clearly doesn’t deserve to go home. Can you imagine LaKisha going home before Sanjaya?

MeeVee RecommendsFriday Night Lights — Season Finale
Fresh off a prestigious Peabody award, Friday Night Lights hits full throttle on the season finale. The Panthers gear up for the big game—the state championship—as rumors swell about whether or not Coach Taylor will accept a job at Texas Methodist University. As the game toils on, Tami receives some surprising news.

Since their birth, the Desperate Housewives star is getting used to a new routine. “I feed, I burp, I change diapers, I pump,” Cross tells PEOPLE in its new issue, on newsstands Friday. Plus, she’s getting to know her girls: “Savannah kicked all the time, and Eden was really quiet,” says Cross. “Now Eden’s the feisty one and Savannah’s a little more Zen.”

House Recap: Airborne

Title: “Airborne”
Original Airdate: April 10, 2007

GMMR Recapper: LaLa

You gotta love a show that has most of its episode pay obvious homage to that classic comedic spoof, “Airplane”. Seriously, I would have absolutely loved it if at some point during their crazy 15-hour flight from Singapore, Cuddy had given the proper set-up for House to then say, “And don’t call me Shirley.” Honestly, that wouldn’t have been much of a stretch for this show in the humor category, but I guess maybe they were worried about appearing like they were doing a direct rip-off. But come now, they had House making an announcement to the plane passengers that if they ate the fish, they were going to get sick!!! Surely as direct a reference to “Airplane” as they come – but don’t call me Shirley!! [rimshot] Alright, sorry, that was terrible, I’ll let it go now….

Anyway, getting back to this episode… what can I say? I thought it was pretty good; not one of my favorites, though. I’ll start by talking about my least favorite part, i.e. the story on the ground: Sooooo, how random and kinda creepy was it to slowly discover that the supposedly mild mannered 58 year old woman in the beginning had just ordered a hot young lesbian hooker? I’m not trying to discriminate against homosexuality here, but come on… an old person ordering a hot young prostitute is creepy and kinda gross no matter what side of the fence you’re on. So, already, I honestly didn’t care too much about the older woman – especially when she started having seizures, etc. I know that sounds heartless, but… I just couldn’t feel too much sympathy for her, I guess. Especially since she was barely in the episode anyway. Oh well.

American Idol Mini-Recap

Jennifer Lopez and the American Idol contestants

Overall tonight’s episode of American Idol sucked. I do love me some Jennifer Lopez so there was that, but nothing else really got me excited about tonight’s episode. No, not even Melinda. What’s going on? It’s the final 8 – they should all be nailing every performance at this point. I watch “American Idol Rewind” on Saturdays on The CW, and the Season One contestants would blow most of this year’s singers out of the water.

It was Latin night, and although I’m not a big fan of Latin music I can get shake my conga when I want to. Unfortunately tonight’s performances only me want to shake my hand at the remote to turn the station. The diva’s started us off tonight, and neither Mindy Doo nor LaKisha blew me away. Melinda had no flavor to her song, and “Sway” felt more like a big band song than a sultry Latin tune. LaKisha took on “Conga”…but it was uninspired and boring – just the opposite how Gloria Estefan recorded it.

Chris Richardson had one of the best performances of the night with his take on the Santana/Rob Thomas hit “Smooth”. No, his voice hasn’t really improved but he is smooth (pun absolutely intended because I like to show how clever I am). Haley Scarnato and her legs sang “Turn the Beat Around”. Simon got it right, Haley’s looks are getting her through this competition, because it’s clearly not her voice.

Phil Stacey took on another Santana hit “Maria”. I don’t know what to say about Phil. I like his voice, but he never really nails it. There’s always something wrong. He’s hanging on by a thread and I think he’s going to be the one to go home this week. Jordin Sparks had probably the best vocal performance of the night (not that that’s saying much) with her version of “The Rhythm is Gonna Get You”. It got me…for the most part. She sounded great, but again, it wasn’t anything special.

Blake Lewis took on Marc Anthony’s “I Need to Know” and much like Chris it wasn’t the vocals that made this number, but his overall performance. Blake is a cool cat – he just is. I like him and I’d like to see him be there at the end. He’s got something. And this brings us to Sanjaya. I’ll say this – it wasn’t horrible. He sang a Spanish song that I’m not familiar with, but it suited his voice well. Is he a good singer? Absolutely not. Will that performance carry him over until next week? Yeppers.

I’m thinking Haley and Phil will be in the bottom two with Phil going home. It should be Haley…well it actually should be Sanjaya, but I’ve resigned myself that he will make it to the finals (that way if he goes home earlier than that I can be that much happier).

Oh and let me just say that it was pretty funny that no one asked J Lo for vocal advice; it was all about dancing. They know better.

Friday Night Lights

Today was a small victory for fans of Friday Night Lights. According to TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello, NBC has just ordered six new scripts for next season. Of course that’s not even close to a full season renewal, but hey, I’ll take what I can get.

NBC President Kevin Reilly has voiced NBC’s strong commitment to Friday Night Lights, and insiders expect that the show will be picked up for the 2007-2008 season despite it’s poor ratings this year. Reilly has said that finding the right place on the schedule for the show has always, and remains to be difficult. The fate of the second season will be determined during the network upfronts in May. Fingers crossed. Until then…CLEAR EYES. FULL HEARTS. CAN’T LOSE.

The season finale of Friday Night Lights will air this Wednesday at 8/7c on NBC. Immediately following the finale, Kyle Chandler (Coach Eric Taylor) and Connie Britton (Tami Taylor) will be live blogging over at NBC.com. Click here to submit a question for Kyle and Connie.

The Bachelor: An Officer & a Gentleman Recap

Here’s the scene: Me, sitting on my couch, fighting to keep my eyes open. I TiVo through to the end of Dancing with the Stars (I only care about Ian and Joey…and of course to see if Heather Mills leg comes flying off) when it hits me that The Bachelor is on. Damn, why did I tell people I was going to be watching this show? Had I not, I could actually go to bed right now. Promises, promises. Fast forward to 20 minutes later and I grinning from ear to ear and clapping over the show…yes, The Bachelor, and yes it’s that good. ESPN columnist Bill Simmons has an unintentional comedy scale and if The Bachelor isn’t right up there at the top, I just don’t know what to tell you. This show is comedy gold.

Last time on the season premiere of The Bachelor, we met Andy Baldwin who is not only a handsome Navy Doctor, but a respected humanitarian and triathlete (who just can’t seem to find a girl…right). We also met the bevy of beauties all vying to get their MRS degree from Bachelor U. The lucky few who were offered a rose are back to try to win the heart of Andy.

Tonight’s episode lets us in on Andy’s first three dates. He had two group dates and a one-on-one date with Stephanie who received the first date since she got the ‘first impression’ rose on the first night. Andy’s pretty excited to commence with ‘Operation: Soulmate’ – his words, clearly not mine.
