FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Cast at the Upfronts

May 15, 2007 by

Kyle Chandler and Connie BrittonDespite all the fun I had at the NBC Upfronts yesterday, I will say that the most disappointing part of the day was missing my chance to talk to the cast of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. Although as I mentioned before, I did see Connie Britton at the presentation (she bumped into me on the way out and called me ‘sugar’ – love her), and Kyle Chandler and Gaius Charles at the after party, I missed the red carpet arrival of the cast before the presentation began. And until I checked out the photos this morning I had no idea that Taylor Kitsch, Jesse Plemmons, Zach Gilford, Minka Kelly or the rest of the cast were even there. Bummer!

I’d love to know what you all think of NBC’s decision to bring FNL back at 10pm on Fridays. I’m happy the show is back and as long as it’s on the schedule I’m happy. But I will say a wee bit disappointed that such an amazing drama, one the whole family can watch will be on so late on a Friday. The competition isn’t heavy during that time slot so the show has a really great chance. And don’t forget to tell your friends to watch the show from the beginning as it reairs on NBC starting on May 27th.

So here are some pics from yesterday’s red carpet arrivals.

I know it’s not a prestigious day or time slot for FNL, but, personally, it works better for me. As a mom who works full-time, I like that fact that I will be able to look forward to watching the show on Friday’s without having to worry about making lunches, supervising homework, or any of the dozen other evening chores that fall during the school week. I can just relax and enjoy each great episode.

When we got out on Friday’s, it’s usually just to dinner, and then we’re home by 8-9pm anyway.

No, no, no, no, no. This bites! I have loved FNL from the beginning, and have been waiting for this news, but I’m afraid that Fridays are going to be the kiss of death for this show. We’ve been fighting to hype the show and expand the audience, and what do they do? They put it on a night when most people aren’t home watching tv. Ugh. Not good, NBC, not good. Although, I have to say kudos for finally seeing what a great show this is and bringing it back. But how about giving it a fighting chance, huh?

I definitely am over the moon about FNL’s renewal, but also worried about the late Friday night timeslot. I did read somewhere, though, that they put FNL there because the expectations for ratings are not high so if they can’t pull in a lot more viewers than what they had this year, it’s okay with NBC. The more I think about it, I think NBC probably did this so that so that it could keep FNL on the air even if it doesn’t get high ratings. I just hope that FNL can maintain it’s 6-7 million audience, but it may be difficult for a lot of people who already have been watching to watch it live on Friday nights. I really just hope its viewership doesn’t drop too low. I’ll definitely be watching any chance I get (though I’m not a Nielsen person anyway). At least it will stop some people from complaining that it isn’t on Friday nights!

GMMR, any word if they’ll still film in Austin or move somewhere else?

I’m also a little dissappointed that it will be played on Friday because I’m worried it will make people think it’s a throw-away show. I always thought the audience for this show would be smart enough to find it on the schedule even if it isn’t on friday nights. But I am hoping this means NBC can stay with the show a little longer even if it doesn’t have huge increase in ratings. Guess time will tell.

Oh, and I read an article online from Austin 360 stating the show will be staying in Austin, so I’m very happy to know they haven’t been lured by another town 🙂

so hapy about this news – the time slot I have to admit means very little to me, since I’m not even in the right country!! But so glad to see the show is coming back – and especially on a night where it’s not expected to get huge ratings!

I’m elated that it got the nod and I’m happy that the confusion on what night it is going to be on tv will be lessened… I’m kind of sad that is it going to be on at 10 pm. It really is a good family drama and could fit an earlier timeslot well.

Maybe the late time is such that the demo of people who do go to Friday night football games will be home in time to watch?

Either way, I think it is great I get another season of Saracen! 🙂

This was the dumbest idea ever. They are putting the show on at a time when the core audience will be at real high school football games. They should have held the show until after the football season and have it replace Sunday Night Football and promote the show to SNF fans to continue there Sunday football fix even after the season is over. TV would be much better if I ran a network.

Hey GMMR! Thanks for the info. Do you know where I can find more pictures of the upfronts red carpet for the cast of FNL? Thanks!
