Are HIDDEN PALMS or TRAVELER the NEXT BEST THING?

It seems that my little vacation from original TV programming is over. It was nice to revisit my old, pre-GMMR life for a few days….Red Sox games, bed before midnight – it was nice…the whole three days it lasted. But there’s no break for a TV blogger and tonight we’ve got a few summer show premieres to talk about.
Hidden Palms
“Dawson’s Creek” creator Kevin Williamson is behind this moody teen drama set in Palm Springs, which features the usual angst and romance with a healthy dose of mystery. Taylor Handley stars as the new kid in town.
So, we’ve got a show from the man who brought me The Creek (plus) starring someone from The OC (plus), but it was Oliver from The OC (minus). Hmm. Wait, did I mention Kevin Williamson brought us Pacey Witter? You are forever in my debt Mr. Williamson. Yeah, I’ll be watching,

Traveler
After it’s sneak peek premiere went well a few weeks back, TRAVELER is back tonight in its permanent summer home. If you missed the series premiere, ABC is showing an encore viewing at 9/8c tonight, right before an all new ep at 10/9c. In tonight’s episode Jay and Tyler seek refuge at Carlton Fog’s private retreat, but soon question whether they are truly safe there. Meanwhile, FBI agents grill Jay’s girlfriend about his whereabouts.

Next Best Thing
You know it’s summer when the reality/game shows get this niche-y. The judges are the comedians Jeffrey Ross, Lisa Ann Walter and Elon Gold. I”m not sure if this is going to be absolutely hysterical and really, really lame. With a show on celebrity impersonators it’s anyones guess. But some of the people on the commercials are pretty amazing. I think I’m going to TiNo this one until the weekend.

I haven’t decided about Hidden Palms yet. I loved Dawson’s Creek, but I hate that it’s on the CW. I guess since I don’t have one of those handy dandy nielson boxes it doesn’t matter if I watch it or not.
I actually liked the first episode of Traveler. It could be good. I guess I’ll try the Next Best Thing because it’s on before Traveler and won’t take any more effort to record, and if I don’t like it, I can fast forward thru it. (I’m not cool enough to have TiVo yet, or even cable for that matter!!!)
I agree with Mannie. I love, love, love Dawson’s Creek, but The CW and I aren’t exactly on speaking terms, if you know what I mean.
BUT! It is Kevin Williamson, and if I know his style, (love the angst), I know that I will probably be tuning in.
I am definitely liking “Hidden Palms.” They’re leaving a lot of empty plot holes, maybe for next week? 🙂
To answer your question in a word: no. Just wake me up when Rescue Me is back on.
(In longer than a word, Herc from Ain’t It Cool has some very good reasons why Kevin Williamson is overrated in his Hidden Palm preview up on that site today. Seriously, has he done anything good since Dawson’s Creek? It’s been over a decade and people will still check out a univerally panned show just because of the creator of just one good project from years ago?)

The kid from the OC was on Dawson’s Creek too for awhile – he played Patrick, the boyfriend of Proffessor Hetson’s daughter. (and the mini-Pacey in the last Joey-inspired movie Dawson did near the finale)

i saw hidden palms back in august and i thought it was awful. aren’t you guys sick of being fed the same thing over and over. white, overprivileged kids or adults hanging out in paradise, sorry but it’s been done so many times. the show has horrible story and dialogue. why do you people watch such crap
Call me crazy snowballa but did you not just write “I saw Hidden Palms back in August”? Why do WE watch such crap? You saw it too.Why did you watch it? While you are busy insulting people why don’t you learn correct capitalization? They taught it in 1st grade.

Maybe we watch such crap because the only thing they put on tv (not counting a few quality shows) is crap.
