BIG BROTHER 8 Recap: The Power of Veto

What a crazy bunch of loons we have living in the BIG BROTHER house this year. Between the egos and the crying and the attitude – oh wait, I love all that stuff…forget it. There was so much hullabaloo going on last night that I’m not even going to pretend to capture it all. But my head was a spinnin’.
Last night was all about the power of veto. Competing for the coveted prize was HOH Jen, nominated houseguests Danielle and Dick and randomly chosen competitors Joe, Mike and Amber. Usually the competition for the POV is the highlight of the night, but this week’s POV couldn’t hold a candle to the drama the preceded it.
First off, Amber needs to gets on some meds – stat! That girl is a basket case and I’m worried that child services is going to take her kid away from her. No way is Amber creating a stable environment for her daughter. She cries at the drop of a hat. I watch the live feeds and based on what I’m seeing there I had no idea that this side of Amber existed. Yeah, she’s a bit of a loon all the time, but this crying in the Diary Room – what is that?! Annoying, that’s what it is.

Good news, bad news for my TV watching tonight. First the bad – I’m heading off to California so my TV watching will be somewhat limited tonight. The good news – I’m flying Jet Blue so I’ll definitely be able to catch some TV. Does anyone know if Jet Blue has Fox? If I can be on that plane watching SYTYCD I will be a happy girl!!

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Spoilers
July 18, 2007 by Kath Skerry
WARNING! The following contains speculation based on possible spoilers for the upcoming season of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS (it feel so good to write that).
When we last saw Coach and Mrs. Coach Taylor the question remained as to if the Coach would leave the Dillon Panthers behind to coach at TMU. But it seems that perhaps star Taylor Kitsch (Tim Riggins) has spilled the beans.
During NBC’s All-Star party for the TCAs, Kitsch was asked: “What’s in store for the new season” to which he answered
” He definitely has a problem with the new coach in town (Jason Street). It’s unbalanced b/c of them being friends.”
So if Jason Street is the new coach, then wouldn’t that mean that Coach Taylor took the job? Something tells me that even if he did go to TMU he will be back…and soon.
…and this just in from the fabulous Jen Godwin of E! Online. Coach Taylor does in fact take the job at TMU. And here’s what we can expect as Season 2 of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS kicks in.
The new season zooms forward eight months, and in the season premiere, Tami is in labor, and Eric comes back from Austin to be there for the birth. The Taylors immediately go into a five-ep arc about whether or not they made a mistake entering into this long-distance relationship. Tami’s dealing with an infant and a teenage daughter who’s “acting out more than she ever has,” while Eric is dealing with “what college football is like and coaching there and not being the head guy there. A lot of interesting dynamics come out of that.” According to Katims, “Eric and Tami are gonna be intensely connected from the beginning” of the season, rather than being separated into discrete stories.
Back to Taylor Kitsch and his fine abs acting abilities. Taylor gives us a little more taste of what we can expect from Tim Riggins in the beginning of the season. “I have a fallout with my brother, who starts drinking again. He’s searching for something and is looking for the superficial things that makes him feel good for an hour.”
And will Riggins continue to woo the ladies with the smile, the smoldering eyes and the luxurious locks? Kitsch says yes. “In the first episode I think I hook up with five different girls…no kidding.”

AGE OF LOVE Recap: Good Gravy

Episode: Five
Original Airdate: 7/16/07
GMMR Recapper: SB
We begin again with a lame quote, this time across some sort of reflective surface. Piano? Desk? Who knows. And I know it’s possible that they’ve been doing this all along and I only just noticed it the past two episodes, but it’s like those people who have car accidents and all they can remember is getting in the car and then waking up in the ambulance and they block out the rest because it’s just too traumatic.
Anyway, this week Mark is supposed to be taking the girls on dates to do stuff he likes doing. So first up, he invites Megan, Mary, and Maria to go surfing. And when he’s on the phone with them, the puppy starts frolicking and jumping up on him and she is SO CUTE! While these ho bags try to win Mark’s heart, the puppy has totally won my heart.
This is possibly the whiniest episode of anything I have ever seen, and while a lot of this is due to the fact that Megan starts talking in this one (good job, girl—only took you five hour-long episodes to develop a personality and THIS is what you come up with?), the whining actually begins with Amanda, who wants to go on a date with Mark. And she has stronger feelings for him than anyone in the house, or have you somehow managed to miss this? And I’m pretty sure she’d be stomping her feet right now if she wasn’t lying on her back. And, you know, there are plenty of jokes to be made about that, but I feel that this is a good time to share with you all that Billy feels that she bears a resemblance to Hilary Swank and seems to only know her by the nickname he has given her, Hilary Skank.
The World Series of Pop Culture Dream Team

I hope you’ve all been watching THE WORLD SERIES OF POP CULTURE on VH1. It’s a fun show where people like us are finally rewarded for the tons of useless pop-based trivia floating around in our heads. I mean how many game shows reward you for knowing things that every human on this planet should know, such as all of the series regulars on THE OFFICE, the name of the prison in PRISON BREAK, and the name of Jesse and Rebecca’s twins on FULL HOUSE. How do people expect to get by in life without knowing this information?
If you haven’t yet seen WSOP then click here to find future airings. You’ll get a kick out of it. And if you fancy yourself a pop culture junkie (as I do) be prepared to be humbled.
Oh and I came across this WSOP shout out this morning. Seems like someone thinks that Ducky, The TV Addict and I would be a force to be reckoned with. I agree!!
The World Series of Pop Culture is awesome. And quickly shames me into realizing I’m not as pop versed as I had thought. Although I was proud that I could name more Lost characters than the two on the stage and I’ve never seen an episode. There definitely needs to be a blogger team next year. Can’t you see GMMR, Ducky and The TV Addict up there totally destroying everyone? (Like a Brickstorm, 7/16/07)
Victoria Beckham is in America…Uh Oh
July 17, 2007 by Kath Skerry

I’ll admit it. I watched Victoria Beckham’s reality show last night. I only turned it on to see if we were going to get some nice moments with Becks, but then I stayed glued to the TV for the full hour. You all know the car wreck analogy…well it was something like that.
The footage, originally intended for a reality show and then used for this one hour special, showed Mrs. David Beckham preparing for her family’s big move to the U.S.. She was trying to get herself acclimated to her new surroundings in Beverly Hills, find a home for her family, and get a taste for their new life in the States.
If this special was intended to introduce The Beckhams to the United States so that we would love them as the Brits do, I’m not sure it quite hit the mark. Too often Victoria came off as a self-centered, trampy twit to whom the rules just didn’t apply. If I’m being honest, she wasn’t as loathing as Paris Hilton but she was close. Personally I couldn’t help but wonder what life lessons she was teaching her children. But hey, she’s a celeb so I guess I shouldn’t expect anything different.

TCA Press Tour Update: NBC
July 16, 2007 by Kath Skerry

Here are a few highlights from the NBC day at the TCAs:
Jerry Seinfeld will return to NBC as a guest star on the season premiere of 30 ROCK. I wonder if Julia Louis-Dreyfuss is pissed that he hasn’t shown up on THE NEW ADVENTURES OF OLD CHRISTINE yet.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS has been confirmed for the 9PM slot on Friday nights. It will be sandwiched in between DEAL OR NO DEAL and LAS VEGAS. NBC plans on marketing the show as a family drama as opposed to a show about high school football to better appeal to women. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Put a shirtless Kyle Chandler (Coach Taylor) and/or a shirtless Tim Riggins (Taylor Kitsch) in your promos and the women will be flocking to the TV sets on Friday nights.
Donald Trump will be back with a “celebrity” edition of THE APPRENTICE. Has a reality show ever done a “celeb” version that actually features real celebrities? No! And The Apprentice will be no different. Of course The Donald wants Rosie on the show, and Rosie of course wants Donald to kiss her ass.
NBC will be featuring a “Green Week” during which it shows will be environmentally themed. THE OFFICE’s John Krasinski seemed a bit concerned over just how Dunder Mifflin would handle going green saying “”We’re a paper company, so we’re screwed.”
It seems that after just one episode SPELLING BEE has been declared a hit and earned a spot on NBC’s fall schedule. Looks like we won’t be saying Bye, Bye, Bye to Joey Fatone anytime soon. (Come on, it’s so easy…wouldn’t you be disappointed if I didn’t go for the lame joke?) The karaoke show will precede THE BIGGEST LOSER on Tuesday nights.
Isaiah Washington will be back on TV in one of Fall’s most anticipated shows, BIONIC WOMAN. Mr. Washington is getting a very rare second chance, so let’s all hope he has learned the error of his ways and opens his mouth to speak the lines of the script only.
One of GMMR’s favorite new shows of the Fall season, CHUCK, will be leading off NBC’s Monday night line-up. HEROES and JOURNEYMAN will follow.
Maya Rudolph may not be returning to SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE next season but Lorne Michaels is doing all he can to keep her around. I love Maya, but as long as you can keep Amy Poehler, Kristen Wiig, and Jason Sudekis (and Bill Hader, Andy Samberg, and Seth Meyers…oh I guess I like the SNL cast more than I thought) around I’ll keep watching.
P.S. I know I’ve been a bit quiet about the Fall shows, but don’t fret, I will be issuing a big old Fall TV preview very soon on GMMR. To be honest, I was just waiting to receive all the new pilots so I could be well informed.

John Krasinski Talks OFFICE Romance at the TCAs (SPOILERS)
July 16, 2007 by Kath Skerry
Filed under John Krasinski, The Office
Today was the NBC comedy panel at the TCAs. I’m going to be providing a full update later tonight. GMMR couldn’t be there, but our friends over at MeeVee were and they got to corner my boy John Krasinski to talk about the upcoming season of THE OFFICE. Here are a few quotes on Jim, Pam and yes even Karen:
“There’s a Lot of Pressure…”
“Just the way they have written these two characters, they’re so compatible for each other, I think it would be interesting to see, after all that pressure, what a relationship would be like,” Krasinski said. “I feel like there would be some sort of awkwardness. There’s a lot of pressure on that and I think both of those characters would feel that after a while. There’s a lot of fun stuff they could do with it, and then there’s a lot of fun stuff you could do with making people wait a little longer.”
“Slap Everybody in the Face…”
When I met up with Rashida Jones not too long ago, she told me that Karen Fillipelli would indeed be back for Season 4 of THE OFFICE. But I was sworn to secrecy so I couldn’t say anything. Today Mr. Krasinski confirmed that Rashida Jones would be returning for a “handful” of episodes. About Karen’s return John says “I think she’ll come in and slap everybody in the face and then walk out. It’ll be glorious.”
“It’s Not Just a Love Story…”
“You’re not dealing with two characters you’re dealing with two people who have insecurities and fears. I know from playing this character that it’s not easy to tell some girl you love her after she’s almost been married. There’s a fine line between morals and things like that. It’s not just a love story, we’re dealing with some wild, complicated stuff. And I think it will be interesting to see what the office’s reaction is if we start dating.”
Much more with John Krasinski from MeeVee.

Sci Fi just announced an ambitious slate of new programming for the 2008-08 season. CI FI’s 2007/2008 original programming roster will feature new offerings from the critically-acclaimed, hit series Battlestar Galactica and collaborations with top-tier creative talent such as Lorne Michaels, Seth Meyers, Michael Shoemaker, Thomas Jane, Steve Niles, Ben Browder and Andrew Prowse. From mythical landscapes and dangerous gods to quirky animated comedies and thoughtful explorations of new worlds, SCI FI’s original programming remains unmatched in its reputation for innovative, high quality entertainment.
Here’s a comprehensive rundown on some of the new Sci Fi programming:
MINI-SODES
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: RAZOR
In anticipation of the premiere of SCI FI’s stunning two-hour event, Battlestar Galactica: Razor, the Channel will whet viewers’ appetites with an eight-week series of exclusive 2-3 minute mini-sodes. Premiering in October on SCI FI during primetime, these promotional shorts will lead into the November 24 premiere of Razor, a special extended episode that will provide a backdrop to events that will take place in the rest of season four of Galactica. Written by Michael Taylor, and directed by Wayne Rose and Felix Alcala, these shorts will provide a sneak peek into the original Cylon War, when a young pilot named William Adama (Nico Cortez) discovers a dangerous Cylon weapon that will come back to haunt him and his crew 40 years later. Filmed as part of the extended episode, the mini-sodes will be included in the unrated Universal Home Video release of Razor. They will also be available on SCIFI.COM after their on-air debuts. Battlestar Galactica: Razor will tell the story of Lee Adama’s (Jamie Bamber) first mission as commander of the Battlestar Pegasus and will reveal the story of how Admiral Cain (Michelle Forbes) served her ship during the original Cylon attack on the Colonies.

While I Was Away…SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE
July 16, 2007 by Kath Skerry
Filed under Neil Haskell, So You Think You Can Dance
TV doesn’t stop just because I go away for the weekend (although I wish it did). I was up until a little past 2 AM trying to catch up on some of my faves that I missed while I was away. Here’s my brief two cents about this week’s SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE elimination.
I wasn’t shocked to see Cedric or Shauna go home this week. I think it was about time for both of them. And to be honest, I don’t think the judges wanted to split up another couple. I didn’t really care about Shauna so I wasn’t all the affected but I don’t think she had a fair shot from Day One. She had to dance with two different partners, one of which was not even close to her level of talent. Thems the breaks I guess.
Some of the solos this week were off the charts. Danny was breathtaking, Hok was unbelievable, Jaimie showed why she is in this competition, and Anya proved why she should be caged up. Seriously, I’m ready for the judges to send Anya home just to send the message to all the other dancers that if you wear fuglicious costumes like that then you are offending the vision of America and you need to leave the stage immediately. Cat Deely was especially cute, and although I LOVE Adam Shankman as a judge I was worried that my TV would blow up from his ego. He gives Danny Tidwell a run for his money (ouch).
Here’s the great group opening number to “You Can’t Stop the Beat” choreographed by guest judge and director of the upcoming HAIRSPRAY, Adam Shankman.

Catching Up on BIG BROTHER 8
July 16, 2007 by Kath Skerry
Filed under Big Brother, Big Brother Recap
I missed two BIG BROTHER 8 episodes while I was gone….so sad. I know you all probably don’t want to talk about it with me, but I had to write about it all the same because really, this show is so damn fascinating.
In the first Big Brother eviction of season 8, Carole was sent home with a vote of 10-1. Yeah, whatevs that’s not the important news here. Right after Carole left a new HOH was crowned and it was Jen. Can you believe it? Jen is frakkin’ HOH. WTF?! She is safe from eviction this week. So no matter what happens, we have to endure Jen for another week. Nooooo!! Can you imagine what it is like for her family watching her make a complete ass of herself 24/7? We all know reality TV show contestants have an overinflated ego, but Jen is off the charts. She is so self-absorbed that I wonder how she gets through the day. A few highlights:
- Zach, Mike and Dustin making a drinking game of every time Jen talks about herself. Ha ha. Again, she’s so self centered that she doesn’t even pick up on it. Thank God the guys were drinking water or they definitely would have had alcohol poisoning.
- Jen gets to see her HOH room for the first time, and shocker…she doesn’t like the personal pics that are hung up around the room. This is a trend with her. The houseguests only roll their eyes as she bitches and moans. She even takes down the ONLY pic of her and her mom because she says she doesn’t look good. Warped?
- Making a complete fool of herself, Jen once again tells Nick that she’s jealous that he is spending so much time with Danielle. It sounded like Jen was trying to blackmail Nick into spending more time with her. It was borderline creepy. Even with the risk of eviction Nick couldn’t pretend to give a rats ass about Jen. Love it!
- Talk about loving someone. Again, knowing that Jen hates him and that he is most likely going on the chopping block, Dick still doesn’t hesitate to rip Jen a new one about how self-centered and inconsiderate she is. Way to go Dick!! Jen just stares blankly at him and smiles proving there is NOTHING going on up where her brain should be.
Nomination Ceremony
This week’s nominations aren’t really a surprise. Jen put up Dick and Danielle explaining that the estranged father and daughter bring a lot of negative tension to the house. I call BS. She put up Dick because she hates Dick and Dick hates her. She put up Danielle because Jen wants all of Nick’s attention (which she is never going to get). Dick says that he will not campaign against his daughter. Honestly, if he wins POV I can see him giving it to Danielle so she can take herself off the block. I really hope that Dick stays and Danielle goes this week…only because I want to see Dick make Jen’s life a living hell. I sooo hate her.
America’s Player
America forced Eric to vote Carole out for eviction, which was a big win all around. This week he had to try to push HOH Jen to nominate a particular houseguest for eviction. Being a savvy Big Brother fan, Eric was interested to see who America wants evicted and was surprised to see it was Brainless Jess. Despite his best efforts Jess is safe, at least until the POV contest. This week Eric has to fake that he has a sleep walking disorder and has to end up in bed with another houseguest. America gets to choose the houseguest. Ha ha. Who would be most freaked about by Eric climbing into bed with them. This one could be awkward. Will it be married Kail? Or one of the boys? Dick’s reaction would be pretty funny, but as would Mike since I don’t think Eric or Mike have bonded much. Joe would spoon him and try to make out with him. This one is going to be good.
Live Feeds
I know the live feeds section on GMMR has been quiet, but I haven’t been watching so…I did get an email from a GMMR reader who is watching the feeds more than I am, so hopefully she will be able to give us more regular updates.
