SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Recap: Top 14 Perform

Sorry I’m so late with getting up my recap of last night’s episode of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. Ducky came over to watch the show with me and then we did some podcasting…twice. Note to self – when you are doing a podcast keep saving every once in a while – that way when the computer battery dies you won’t lose the entire podcast. Aye! Aye! Aye!

Anyway, it was great to see my little SYTYCD dancers back in the swing of things last night. Oh how I missed them. There were some amazing dances, some eh performances, and one fabulous criticism that had me giving a standing O. So let’s get to it.

First up, let’s introduce tonight’s guest judge. Choreographer, dancer and director of the upcoming HAIRSPRAY movie, Adam Shankman. SYTYCD manages to find the best guest judges from week to week. These are people that not only know what they are talking about in terms of dance, but are also big fans of the show and follow the progress of the dancers from beginning to end. Much like Debbie Allen, Adam Shankman is a judge that I hope to see again soon in the future.

Lacey Schwimmer & Kameron Bink start things off tonight with the Hustle by choreographer Maria Torres. Let me tell you…this ain’t yo momma’s hustle. This dance was sexy and fierce and well performed by Lacey Schwimmer, her slammin’ body and partner Kameron Bink. The routine was great but once again Kameron played second fiddle to Lacey, but I can’t blame him. Lacey is so dynamic that the choreographers MUST start building routines around some of Kameron’s strengths. I often watch his dancing and think that he’s just there to partner Lacey around the stage. Again, not his fault. It can’t (and shouldn’t) be about Lacey all the time (even if she is fabulous). The judges loved the dance and they love Lacey and Kameron. Nice start to the show.

Shauna and CedricShauna Nolland & Cedric Gardner were up next with a Mambo routine by Alex DaSilva. Both Ducky and I keep forgetting that Shauna even exists, so I can’t say that she’s making a last impact on me. Cedric should be commended for his effort from week to week but I’m done with him and ready for him to dance his way offstage. The mambo was actually entertaining to watch, and Cedric did give it his all. Mary Murphy even said that this was the first week that he deserved to stay (although he was only the second performance of the night so she had little to go on). All around praise for Shauna from the judges.

Danny Tidwell and Anya Garnis performed a Contemporary routine by Tyce D’Orio. I have been looking forward to these two doing a contemporary routine since they were first paired together, and I’m sad to say that I was disappointed. Personally, I didn’t think that the choreography was that strong. It seemed like a lot of running and jumping around the stage (which is common in contemporary) but it lacked the emotion that I find in routines by Mia Michaels and even Mandy Moore (no, the other Mandy Moore). When I watch contemporary dance routines I want to get the chills…and I didn’t.

Michael helps get a friend’s daughter out of a prostitution racket, which is a nice distraction from the fact that everyone’s trying to kill him.

MeeVee RecommendsBig Brother
Tonight is the first live eviction ceremony of Big Brother 8. Will the houseguests vote out Carol or Amber? And who did America force America’s Player Eric to vote for?

MeeVee RecommendsSo You Think You Can Dance
Two more dancers are eliminated tonight. Perhaps it’s the end of the road for Cedric who hasn’t done anything to really wow the judges to date, or perhaps the judges have had enough of Danny Tidwell’s arrogance (nah).

BIG BROTHER Recap & Spoilers: Veto Me This

BIG BROTHER Recaps and Spoilers

The BIG BROTHER 8 houseguests continue to settle in and make the best of living together 24/7. Ex-boyfriends Dustin and Joe try to find some peace, while estranged father and daughter Dani and Dick do their best to stay out of each other’s way…but is it all really just an act? Zach shows early signs of being a floater, while Kail and Mike can’t seem to stop talking strategy. Brainless Jess continues to annoy the hell out of me while Eric has me struggling to like him.

Before we get into the game play and antics of some of the players, I wanted to let you know of a new GMMR feature just for fans of Big Brother. Starting today, I am going to be posting an ongoing mini-blog of some of the highlights of what I see in the 24/7 live feeds. It’s not going to be comprehensive (I’m not watching it all that much), but just a few tidbits of what I’m seeing in the house. WARNING! These updates will contain spoilers that may or may not be shown in the CBS broadcast. There is now a link to the GMMR/Big Brother 8 Feed Alert on the GMMR home page. Check back soon and often for the latest BB8 news.

Get Your Flirt On
Nick and his amazing abs have figured out their strategy for winning BB8 – flirt. Nick figures that if he can get the ladies to love him and think that he loves him back it’s going to buy him some more time in the house…and he’s right. But the real JENius of Nick’s plan is that he is an equal opportunity flirt and makes no qualms about showing the same attention (and affection) to Joe who is loving every minute of it.

Despite flirting with Amber and Jen, it’s little Danielle that has caught Nick’s attention. The two have been very touchy feely as of late, and even shared a late night smooch or two.

JENuinely Annoying
It’s unanimous – all the BB8 houseguests hate Jen…and I don’t blame them. After last week’s drama queen meltdown over her bad picture, Jen continues to rub the houseguests the wrong way with her overinflated ego. Not helping the cause are these homemade tanks she insists on wearing 24/7 with phrases like “JENius”, “JENth Degree”, JENuine”, JENsa Member”. Ugh, I am so over her.

An awkward moment ensues when Jen informs a small group that Nick tried to kiss her and she denied him. Joe being the little bitch that he is (and I’m not complaining) literally runs in and tells Nick. Nick sprints from the room and calls Jen out on her lie in front of everyone. You can tell from her expression that she is 100% lying but she tries to put up a front and says Nick is lying. Later she apologizes (to Nick only) and says that it was because she was jealous of the time he was spending with Danielle. All together now: P-S-Y-C-H-O.

I Want to Hang with Kathy Griffin

Kathy Griffin

I’m heading to Nantucket this weekend with my friends.  It’s going to be a great time and I’m really looking forward to it…but, I would be lying if I were saying that I wasn’t completely bummed out to be missing Kathy Griffin’s stand-up act which will be in and around New England this very weekend.  I’ve missed her in the past and I was determined to not miss her again this summer…damn social life.

I just finished watching tonight’s episode of MY LIFE ON THE D LIST.  That show makes me laugh like no other (well I suppose I get a few chuckles from AGE OF LOVE, but nothing like Kathy’s show).  Tonight’s episode followed Kathy around as she performed at two “unique” venues – the Gay Porn Awards and a prison.  Life on the D list people – it ain’t always glamorous.

Kathy killed at the Gay Porn Awards as she was amongst her people, but I was a bit nervous about her performing at a prison. And while the prison offered a slightly different crowd, Kathy was still a big hit.  She took the time to get to know a little bit more about prison life so she could include some relevant humor in her act. And aren’t we all better off for knowing how to start a ROY about that LURD in Cell Block A*?  She was brilliant and the inmates loved her!!

I don’t think Kathy Griffin’s humor is for everyone (especially those who don’t like to laugh) but I think she is hysterical and she is the type of celeb that I would love to go to dinner with.  You know, grab my girlfriends, head to a bar and just dish with Kathy Griffin.  How fun would that be?  Next year Kathy…I promise I won’t miss your show.

LURD – Lesbian Until  Release Date

Zac Efron – High School Jailbait

Zac Efron

Zac Efron, High School Musical and HairsprayZac Efron wasn’t a big star during my high school years. Hell, he was a toddler at the time. But had Zac been around during my formative years he would have been my #1 crush – no doubt about it. He’s cute, funny, he’s got those piercing blue eyes and most importantly the boy can sing (a quality that still gets me to this day)…oh and he has just enough sexual ambiguity that I would have instantly fallen head over heels (I always did love the gay boys). But Zac wasn’t around, and now he’s just too young for me to properly admire without feeling all weird and creepy.

Zac made a name for himself with the tweens starring in the smash hit HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL. On July 20th he can be seen in the film adaptation of the Broadway hit HAIRSPRAY alongside John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer and Queen Latifah.

Check out Zac singing a soon to be hit song from HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL 2 premiering August 17th on the Disney Channel.

[gv data=”PJCbSiw7-AE”][/gv]

P.S. I’ve never seen the original HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL. Is it really worth checking out? I’ve heard all the hype, but I can’t say that I spend much time on The Disney Channel (well, when I’m not babysitting my nieces – don’t get me wrong I’ve seen my fair share of JoJo’s Circus, but it’s not by choice).

Thanks to www.zefron.com for the pics.

AGE OF LOVE Recap: Cry Me a River

    Episode: Four
    Original Airdate: 7/9/07
    GMMR Recapper: SB

No Billy this week! He had to work late, and so now we’ll see if I sink or swim. And let me tell you—in middle school and high school, we always got divided up in our gym class by how well we could swim. I was always, ALWAYS, in the group with the “special” kids.

So I was obviously pretty bored and watching last week’s rerun before the new one, and I noticed at the end that the Crypt Keeper is REALLY tall. They’re going to have to get her one of those NBA-sized coffins.

Credits open with The Scuzz playing tennis. This makes me wonder … if he is in fact “in the prime of an impressive career”, as they would have us believe, why isn’t he at Wimbledon? Or IS he at Wimbledon? I don’t really follow tennis nor care enough to research it. I consulted my most knowledgeable tennis-loving friend, JP, about this, and he texted me the following: “No. Injured/famous.” He also went on to send me this insightful little gem, which I promised to share with all three of you who read this: “A classic point: Tennis is the sport where ‘love’ literally means nothing. Zero.” So it works out, since love also means nothing on this show.

TVWeek.com polled 35 of the top TV critics to see what shows soared and which shows sank during this past season.  THE SOPRANOS seemed to be a favorite among all the critics and took the top spot of 2007 series.  ABC’s OCTOBER ROAD didn’t fare too well and was voted the top…of the worst shows.  And how the might have fallen – last year 24 was up near the top of the best shows, and this year not only didn’t it make the cut, but it was voted as the second worst show on TV.  Ouch! Jack Bauer should forget about saving the world and concentrate on saving his own show.

Votes were tabulated using a weighted scale. Critics submitted 10 shows in the best series category, with the top choice receiving 10 points, the second choice 9 points and so on down to the 10th choice, which received 1 point. Critics submitted five shows in the worst series category, with weighting descending from 5 points for the No. 1 choice to 1 point for No. 5. Shows were televised between Jan. 8 and June 18, 2007. Hayden Panettiere & Stephen Colletti Have Fun in the Sun

This is what I like to call a win-win (win) post.  The  boys of GMMR get to enjoy some pics of HEROES hottie Hayden Panettiere while the ladies of GMMR get to enjoy the eye candy that is Stephen Colletti, formerly of LAGUNA BEACH.

Hayden & Stephen have been together for quite some time now, and it’s actually nice to see a young couple actively try to keep their relationship out of the spotlight.  But as someone who was a die hard Laguna Beach fan, it’s weird to see Stephen without LC or KCavs.
