Michael Moore Goes SICKO on CNN

July 10, 2007 by

Filmmaker Michael Moore is not a huge fan of CNN or of Wolf Blitzer (I’m sure he still loves Anderson Cooper because come on, who doesn’t love Anderson Cooper).  Moore is a little upset about CNN’s evaluation of his new movie SICKO. Whether you are a fan of Michael Moore or not you can’t dispute that his movies get people talking. The video clip is just under 15 minutes, but it’s worth your time.

Fire up the TiVo because we’ve got some good TV on tonight. My girl KATHY GRIFFIN is back with an all new episode, and of course there’s BIG BROTHER. And for some reason I am super excited to check out the premiere of THE SINGING BEE tonight. I remember seeing the promo for the show during the Upfronts and it seemed like a lot of fun. Will anyone else be watching?

MeeVee RecommendsKathy Griffin: My Life On The D List
Kathy gears up to host a gay adult-video awards gala. She also prepares to perform her comedy act in front of prisoners at a state penitentiary in Arizona. If you are NOT watching MY LIFE ON THE D LIST, please email me and let me know why! I think Kathy Griffin is hysterical!!

Follow the antics as the houseguests learn to live and love together. Who will the coveted golden power of veto and will he or she use it? For all you Big Brother fans out there, let me know if you want me to put up a spoiler post. I have the feeds and I know what’s going on inside the house.

MeeVee RecommendsThe Singing Bee
A karaoke-inspired competition in which contestants must finish the lyrics to popular songs once the band stops playing. Hosted by Joey Fatone.

MeeVee RecommendsEureka
Season 2 begins as a man inexplicably bursts into flames, and Carter and Deacon try to reacclimate to the timeline that they restored in the first-season finale.

MeeVee RecommendsMLB All-Star Game
Yes, it’s being played in San Francisco’s AT&T Park, and you know whose house that is. Giants slugger Barry Bonds and his homerun record chase will be Topic A no matter what happens during the game.

Comic-ConLater this month I’m heading to San Diego to attend my first ever Comic-Con. There are a lot of great events including panels with the cast of LOST, PUSHING DAISIES, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, BIONIC WOMAN, and CHUCK among others. And I might just have a few exclusives just for GMMR readers – still working out all the details now.

If you are attending this year’s Comic-Con, make sure you drop me a line and let me know.

Kevin Reilly Back as President…of Fox

Comments Off on Kevin Reilly Back as President…of Fox

Kevin Reilly Back as President…of FoxWelcome back Kevin Reilly! The network has changed, but the title’s the same: Less than two months after he was pushed out of NBC, Kevin Reilly is back in the entertainment president’s chair — but this time at Fox.

To make room for Reilly, current entertainment topper Peter Liguori has been bumped up to Fox Entertainment chairman. New arrangement will mimic the Liguori-Reilly one-two punch the duo operated under at FX, until Reilly left for NBC in 2003.

“I couldn’t be happier to rejoin Peter Chernin and the Fox family and to collaborate again with my good friend Peter Liguori, who shares my view of being competitive by being creatively adventurous,” Reilly said. “The company has a top-down vision and the network has a collaborative environment and winning track record fostered by Peter Liguori, which I personally look forward to as a refreshing change of pace, and have no doubt will be the formula to keep Fox the leader on all fronts for years to come.”

The best moment on TV last night. BIG BROTHER 8 houseguest Jen freaks out after seeing a picture of her. “It’s really bad lighting, and like a really bad angle…”

Girl…get a grip!! Ha ha ha ha!! Oh and bravo to the Big Brother producers for playing the dramatic violin music in the background – classic!

It’s a sad and rainy Monday morning here on the outskirts of Boston. I have lots of work to do today (I’m actually one of those people who likes my job), so until my next break let me clue you in on what some of my best blogger buds are chatting about today.

GiveMeMyRemote.com Attention BATTLESTAR GALACTICA fans! Check out this video from the recent Sci Fi digital press panel that took place in Vancouver. I’m a late comer to BSG so until now it escaped me that Jamie Bamber (Lee Adama) has a British accent. Imagine my bloody surprise. (The TV Addict)

GiveMeMyRemote.com Tonight is the premiere of THE BRONX IS BURNING, an ESPN mini-series focused on the 1977 Yankees. Oliver Platt and Daniel Sunjata (Rescue Me) take the lead in this story about a dramatic time in NY baseball. I can’t say that a movie about the Yankees interests a die hard Red Sox fan like myself, but then again 61 is up there as one of my favorite movies of all time…so. (MeeVee)

GiveMeMyRemote.com THE OFFICE fans know him as Dwight’s Cousin Mose, and diehard Office fans know him as the writer of some of the best episodes of the show – ever. Michael Schur took some time to talk to Tanster at Office Tally and the result is a fantastic read for fans of the show. (Part 1 | Part 2)

GiveMeMyRemote.com Speaking of THE OFFICE. The Televisionary shares his OFFICE Season 4 wish list. I’ve read it and I completely agree with every single point the guy makes. Let’s hope the writers take a look at this formula for a good season. (The Televisionary)

GiveMeMyRemote.com PSYCH is and has been appointment TV for me since it first premiered, but I realized I don’t talk about it all that much on GMMR. That’s going to change. The new season starts on July 13th on USA and you MUST watch. The show is simply hysterical. Check out some great promos for this season. (Seat42f)

GiveMeMyRemote.com With DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES and UGLY BETTY planing musical episodes, the ladies over at Buzz Sugar are wondering which show will be next to break out into song and dance. Take their poll now. (Buzz Sugar)

GiveMeMyRemote.com Former AMERICAN IDOL star Clay Aiken is an egotistical little bitch. But I gotta tell ya that I still love his voice. Clay should stick to doing what he does best: singing and appearing on Jimmy Kimmel. This week he managed to get into a cat fight on an airplane – never a good idea. (Pop on the Pop)

GiveMeMyRemote.com Have you ever wanted to be a character on THE SIMPSONS? Who hasn’t?! Now is your chance to see what you looked like if you lived in Springfield by creating your own Simpsons avatar. (TV Squad)

GiveMeMyRemote.com Want a few spoilers from THE CLOSER? Well Ducky has got you hooked up. (DuckyxDale)

GiveMeMyRemote.com Our friends over at SeriouslyOMG have seen tonight’s TCM presentation of SPIELBERG ON SPIELBERG and think it’s worth your time to check it out. My copy is sitting on my coffee table – maybe I’ll watch it at lunch. (SeriouslyOMG)

GiveMeMyRemote.com Last week I mentioned DOCTOR WHO in passing on GMMR and I got a pretty big response. Since some of you obviously enjoy the show, I wanted to point you in the direction of this great recap of the first two episodes of Season Three. From what I understand they will be doing recaps each week so make sure you bookmark the page. (TV with MeeVee)

GiveMeMyRemote.com Paula Abdul appeared as Ron Weasley on the UK sketch show FRIDAY NIGHT PROJECT. I think she frightened a lot of children – I know I was scared. Check out the video of her appearance. (dListed)

Age of Love, NBC Age of Love
NBC sent along an advanced copy of this week’s episode, and let’s just say we are in for some seriously genius reality TV tonight. The women compete in a triathlon whose winners get a date on a yacht with Mark. Later, the ladies play doubles tennis to vie for diamond bracelets and a solo date in Mark’s suite.

MeeVee RecommendsGreek
ABC Family offers the tale of a geeky college freshman named Rusty, his hottie big-sister Casey, and their adventures in frats and sororities, dorms and bars.

MeeVee RecommendsThe Closer
One cop goes over the line as the team races to rescue an abducted little girl. I can’t say that I personally watch the show (I’m still catching up on last season), but I know a lot of you love it.

World Series of Pop CultureWorld Series of Pop Culture
I’d get humiliated on Jeopardy and would be too frazzled for Deal or No Deal. But the World Series of Pop Culture? Now that’s my game. If you’ve never seen this show before, it’s worth checking out. Where else would knowing Screech’s real name on Saved by the Bell earn you cash and prizes.

MeeVee RecommendsHome Run Derby
Eight sluggers, four from the AL and four from the NL, compete in the first of the All-Star festivities. No one from the Red Sox is competing (no Big Papi this year) so I probably will TiNo it until later tonight.

BIG BROTHER Recap & Spoilers: Butter Me Up

July 8, 2007 by
Filed under Big Brother, Big Brother Recap

The weather being what is was this weekend, I can’t say I really watched any TV. But it’s Sunday night and BIG BROTHER is back so let the recap commence.

Daddy & Daughter
Danielle, Big BrotherDick, Big Brother
Tonight we saw the aftermath of all the houseguests meetings for the first time. Dick and Danielle are both quite emotional about their reunion. Dick claims he’s not going to use, lie or back stab his daughter. I guess only time will tell. I’ll give him this much, he certainly was persistent with trying to connect with Danielle, which was quite impressive since he spent much of his first week name dropping celebs he “supposedly” knows. Dick made a point to mention Danielle’s weight, or lack thereof. Something tells me this is going to come up a few more times before the summer is over.

Veronica & Betty
Carol, Big Brother Jess, Big Brother
Carol and Brainless Jess are a bit bewildered why they were thrown in the house together as enemies. Carol, being somewhat mature, doesn’t seem to really have a problem with Brainless Jess since they haven’t spoken since Freshman year and she’s quite over whatever issues they have. Jess continues to act brainless to the point I want to stick her in closet so I don’t have to hear her talk.

The STD Twins
Dustin, Big Brother Joe, Big Brother
I’ve chosen a gay and his name is Dustin. I’m so over Joe. Ugh, he’s such a little bitch and he seems to be obsessed with telling his houseguests (and those of us watching at home) about his STD. We get it. You have gonorrhea!! Move on already. While Joe was busy talking smack about Dustin, Dustin was busy making friends and real connections (aka playing the game). The drama between these two is surely going to put one of them out on the street sooner than later – let’s hope it’s Joe.

Reality TV cartoon

MeeVee has been reaching out to a few TV bloggers to get the pulse on what’s hot and not for the upcoming Fall TV season. What new shows do bloggers think might just hit it big and which shows are we hoping will disappear faster than “Emily’s Reasons Why Not”. In the latest installment MeeVee asks the bloggers about the fate of reality TV.

Find out what I have to say about the topic along with fellow bloggers from The Chicago Tribune, Blogcritics, The TV Addict and TV Barn. Click to read: What is the future for reality TV in the coming season?

Rashida Jones Graces The Improper Bostonian

July 7, 2007 by
Filed under BJ Novak, John Krasinski, The Office

Rashida Jones, star of THE OFFICE and up the upcoming Fox comedy THE RULES FOR STARTING OVER (which if rumors re true is now being called UNHITCHED) is featured on the cover of this month’s Improper Bostonian. The Improper is a local Boston mag which highlights news and events happening in and around Beantown.

Although Ms. Jones didn’t grow up in Boston, she spent a few years here while she attended Harvard. And her new sitcom is actually based in Boston. That’s enough of a connection for me.

Rashida Jones on the cover of the Improper Bostonian

Ms. Jones isn’t the first OFFICE star to get an Improper cover shot. Co-stars John Krasinki and BJ Novak were featured in the past. I’d imagine that Mindy Kaling who hails from Cambridge, MA will have her own cover soon. And if they can get him, I wouldn’t be surprised to see former Acton, MA resident Steve Carell gracing the cover in the future.

Enjoy Rashida’s cover, and once the inside pics and article are available, I will update and share with you.

“The Office” & “Little Britain” on the Big Screen? (NOPE)

The Office UK

UPDATE: As the British would say, this is bollocks. This article made its way to the front of The Hollywood Reporter yesterday, but as GMMR reader Kathy pointed out, it was published on July 6th 2006 not 2007. My apologies.

This falls into the category of just too good to be true, so I’m not really putting any credence into this one. But, the BBC has announced that it’s hoping to bring some of its hit shows back and this time on the big screen. Shows mentioned by name include “The Office”, “Extras” and “Little Britain”.

Ricky Gervais has said in the past that he’s not looking to revive his projects on film, but one would think that he would have had to at least been consulted before the BBC made such a bold statement, right? So is it possible that we will see David Brent, Gareth Keenan, Tim Cantebury & Dawn Tinsely again? Be still my heart. If it’s not going to happen then the BBC should be slapped for teasing me in such a way.

Ricky Gervais Channels David Brent
For some Friday afternoon fun, check out this video of Ricky Gervais singing “Freelove Freeway” along with Mackenzie Crook (Gareth Keenan) at The Concert for Diana which took place on July 1st at Wembley Stadium. It seems that my dear Prince Harry (swoon) is also a big fan of The Office.

TGIF!! With the holiday on Wednesday, it’s been a strange week. But it’s Friday now and time to start the weekend. Unless you’re one of those “nutty” JERICHO fans, I can’t imagine that there’s much TV to keep you interested in tonight.

MeeVee RecommendsJericho
The CBS fan phenomenon returns to the airwaves to repeat season one, beginning with the pilot episode. Skeet Ulrich returns to his Kansas hometown, carrying a few secrets, only to see the world turned upside down with a nuclear apocalypse.

MeeVee RecommendsScience of Summer
You know when you eat your ice cream too fast, and you get this like, wicked wicked headache above your eyes? National Geographic tells you why.

MeeVee RecommendsStandoff

BIG BROTHER Recap & Spoilers: Meet the Houseguests

Big Brother Cast

(WARNING! The following contains spoilers for tonight’s episode of Big Brother 8. If you haven’t seen it yet then watch it and then get your butt back here to discuss with us.)

Sorry that BIG BROTHER has taken over GMMR today, but I couldn’t possibly contain my excitement. I just finished watching tonight’s season premiere and hot diggity dog it’s going to be a fantastic season.

Tonight 11 BIG BROTHER houseguests were introduced and shared pleasantries while they got settled into the Alice in Wonderland themed BB8 house. What they didn’t know was that there were three remaining houseguests they had yet to meet who were lurking upstairs and watching their every move. Dun…dun…dun!! As it turns out, three of the original 11 houseguests had some unfinished business with someone from their past, and tonight they would be reunited with them.

But first let’s get to my first impressions of the first 11 houseguests.

  • Kail – a mother of three who owns a few business but wants people to believe she’s just a real estate agent. Woo…secret identity. She’s going to irk me I think.
  • Nate – an ex pro football player that…wait, what…I’m sorry I forgot what I was saying. I was too busy looking at this man’s fine body.
  • Joe – I love my gays but Joe could be too much for even me to handle. This child loves the camera and being center of attention. Give the boy some downers and call me when he’s sedated.
  • Eric – a New York boy who seems to be a lot of fun. But is he cut throat enough to stay in the house?
  • Jameka – I can’t say that Jameka made a big impression on me this week. But laying low is one way to go far in the Big Brother house.
  • Carole – a Senator’s daughter? Seriously? I’m assuming her father is serving his last term and won’t be running for re-election because no politician would allow his daughter to exploit herself on a reality show during an election year.

HEROES Star Hayden Panettiere Sings

July 5, 2007 by

Think HEROES star Hayden Panettiere’s only talent is healing her body after injury or death?  Nope.  The girl can sing.  She’s actually releasing her first album later in the year. Last night Hayden performed during Washington, DC’s 4th of July spectacular and she actually sounded pretty good.  She sang live (ok she had a little help with backing vocals) which earns her major points since so many of her counterparts get by with full on lazy lip synching.  I think Hayden may have been a wee bit nervous, not that I blame her.  Watch closely and you can tell she’s relying on her acting talents to mask her nerves.  Not a bad first big outing.

Check out Hayden singing “Try” from the movie “Bridge to Tereabithia”
