Thank You Dunder Mifflin…Randomness
August 21, 2007 by Kath Skerry
The second half of my day has been a real bummer. Nothing tragic, but I just had to deal with some sucky stuff that has really brought me down. Normally I would turn to booze, but I didn’t have any around the house (I’m kidding…kind of). So I brought the pity party to my couch and turned on my TV. While flipping through the latest issue of TV Guide, I just hit play on my DVR and figured whatever random show that was selected would provide comforting background noise while I was being Grumpy McGrumpstein.
But you know what? The random show playing on my DVR just happened to be “The Injury” episode of THE OFFICE. Within minutes my bad mood was lifted by a dim-witted man and his love for bacon in the morning. Could I really feel bad for myself when Dwight was dealing with a concussion? Should I be wallowing when Jim had to deal with Pam’s impending wedding to Roy? And what about Ryan driving all the way to Carbondale for yams? Before I knew it I had let go of my woes and let myself laugh at and along with the folks of the Scranton Branch of Dunder Mifflin.
Ah, the power of good television.
So thanks Greg Daniels and your band of merry men and women for turning my day around. Someone once said to me that “at any moment if you think what you are doing is in vain, or you aren’t sure that you should be working so hard at it, keep working, keep going – please know that we all love it so much.” Those words meant a lot to me so I thought I would share them with you… just thought you should know that we do love it…so thanks!!
Ok, I’ll be snapping out of my post-angst, overdramatic, sappy mood soon enough. Someone quick, get me an episode of “According to Jim” to make fun of!!

What a coincidence because I was in a funk at work today too. I had to go in at 5am and was still there at 3pm and I think my lack of sleep was dragging me down. So what did I do? I busted out with my video iPod and listened to The Job while I worked. By 3:40pm all things were better. God bless The Office!
I LOVE THAT EPISODE i believe it was the first one i ever saw…it gets me every time. haha the office soothes me too like crushed up advil’s in pudding cups

YAY for this post! I started grad school yesterday, and I am already stressed out and crabby but I turned on “The Job” to watch tonight and its making me feel so much better!!! YAY FOR THE OFFICE! How long till September 27th???
I think I am one of the few people that come to GMMR daily and don’t watch The Office. I just never got into it. I came here at first to read about Prison Break. But my birthday is next week and the only thing I asked my husband for was The Office Seasons 1-3 on DVD. You convinced me to watch it. Plus I’d like to finally understand what you are all talking about on the show.
Who said that nice quote you mentioned above? That was really nice.
Isn’t that what JK said to you after Jest Fest??
And I do the same thing with TO after a bad day…never fails.
Mackie – good for you! I got in to the Office in the middle of the second season. I was living overseas and hungering for some American television that hadn’t been dubbed into German, so I downloaded a few episodes of the Office from iTunes (also how I got hooked on Lost, by the way), and I’ve been addicted ever since. Once you watch them, you’ll love them…just remember, if you watch them in order, the Pilot is by far the weakest episode they’ve made, imo. Enjoy 🙂
I meant to add to that last post, so stick with it, because the second episode, Diversity Day, is one of the best!! Whoops 🙂
That is my all time favorite episode of The Office.
Mindy at her writing best.
And the spray bottle scene in Meredith’s van sends me into fits of laughter everytime. “You can’t fire me, I don’t work in this van!” Ha!
Maybe I need to watch it right now myself…
Okay, first off- John Krasinski said that to you, right?
Ummm… Yeah. I visit your site alot. 😉
I totally know what you mean about The Office improving my mood. I smiled for days after The Job. And, incidentally, The Injury is one of my favorite episodes!
Yep, “The Injury” is a go-to in my house when we’re in a bad mood.
Yay for Mackie as well! You will fall in love with the show, I guarantee it. Everyone I have lent my dvds too has fallen in love with the show. Even those who made fun of me for quoting Office have become addicted.
Something that might help… Tea Partay.
Oh, so good to see you talking about The Office, GMMR. The Dundies and The Injury are the two eps that can always clear the blues. And, a few minutes with JKras, well… there are no words.
