BIG BROTHER 8 Recap & Spoilers: The Power of Veto
August 7, 2007 by Kath Skerry
Filed under Big Brother, Big Brother Recap, Big Brother Spoilers
The latest episode of BIG BROTHER 8 just ended and I need a shot of whiskey. It’s so stressful watching the show, I can’t even imagine being in that house.
So what went down tonight? A lot actually.
First up was the power of veto competition. Tonight’s participants: Jen, Kail, Dani, Dustin, Zach and Jameka all had to sacrifice something to stay in the game. Be the one to sacrifice the most and you stick around. Sacrifice the least and be eliminated. A few highlights…Jen, Kail, Zach and Jen have to wear a bunny suit for the next five days. The same group and Jameka have to pour a nasty concoction over their heads once every hour for 24 hours straight. Kail and Jen have 30 days of slop. And if Jen wins BB8 she forfeits half of the $500,00 grand prize. In the end it was that sacrifice that gave Jen this week’s Power of Veto.
With Jen essentially off the block, Dani had to name a replacement. As was foreshadowed in Sunday’s show, Dani and Dick had their sights set on Eric. Jen and Daniele came to a truce and banded together to get Eric out of the game. And in a moment I never thought I would see, Dick and Jen found peace and decided that it would be in the best interest of the game if they buried the hatchet and tried to get along.
Mandy Moore to Guest on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER

The following contains minor spoilers for the next season of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER. Proceed with caution.
My girl crush on Mandy Moore will continue this fall when she guests on HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER playing someone so NOT Mandy. Imagine if Mandy had not stayed true to herself and gone all kinds of crazy back when she first broke out on the scene, and that’s the character that she’ll play on HIMYM. Or better yet, Mandy will play a good looking Britney Spears.
Here’s what HIMYM creator Carter Bays had to say in a recent press release:
“Ted is freshly single and on the rebound, and on his first night out, he meets Amy, the ultimate bad decision,” explains Bays. “She’s the tattooed, vodka-swilling trainwreck that Mandy Moore thankfully never turned into. We can’t wait to see what Mandy does with it.”
AGE OF LOVE Final Recap: This Will Never Last

A special thanks for SB for recapping AGE OF LOVE this season. I know it wasn’t easy, but you did a great job!!
For those of you that loved SB’s Age of Love recaps stay tuned because she will be taking on weekly recaps of one of the best new shows of the Fall season CHUCK starting in September.
Episode: Eight
Original Airdate: 8/6/07
GMMR Recapper: SB
Wow, I really had no idea that I could care so little about this finale, but seriously. Oh, and I missed the first ten minutes (sorry everyone) AGAIN because of Mexican food. What is it about Mexican food that makes me ten minutes late for this show? I guess they have in common that consuming each of them seems like a good idea at the time, but afterwards I end up nauseated. But I bet the first ten minutes were just recapping the season and badly super-imposing stupid quotes on weird surfaces, so I don’t feel like I missed much.
When I wandered in, Jen and Amanda were at Mark’s family’s house. Jen brings them a gift and Amanda feels bad because she didn’t bring anything. As she should! Was she born in a barn? Oh wait, she totally was. Get it? Because she looks like a horse. There’s an awkward moment when Jen says that she has a 25-year-old son, and Mark’s friends and family can’t believe she’s 48. Jen sits around chatting and being charming like an old pro, while Amanda sits there like a giant steaming pile trying to think of something to say and generally being outdone by Jen. Mark’s mom tries to have the women help with dinner, but Amanda is utterly clueless, even though all she’s supposed to be doing is mixing up some salad and dressing. OH MY GOSH, Amanda. It’s field greens, and I’m sure you’ve seen those before. Mark’s mom seems pretty surprised that Amanda can’t cook and Amanda says that she wants to learn, and Mark’s mom smiles at her and she feels better.

If you missed the HEROES panel at Comic-Con (like I did) then check out this great video that highlights some of the funnier moments of the panel, and gets the cast reaction to being there for the second year in a row.

Big shout out to the cast and creators of HEROES for recognizing that it was the fans that attended last year’s Comic-Con that did more to create buzz for this show than any of the TV critics out there.
Thanks to Joey for the video.

I’m really excited for the new episode of DAMAGES tonight. I got screeners for the first two episodes a while back, so I’ve been patiently waiting for the third episode for quite some time. Glenn Close is just amazing in this role. I’m going to watch POWER of 10 tonight but only because I want to get a sense of how annoying Drew Carey is on a game show. I still can’t believe that the people behind THE PRICE IS RIGHT didn’t wait to see how Carey was on this show before tapping him to replace Bob Barker.
What shows are going to be watching tonight?
Power Of 10
Debut of Drew Carey’s new game show (no, not “The Price Is Right,” the other one), in which contestants try to guess survey results for a chance at $10 million. Personally I’m just interested in seeing how many Americans thought George W. Bush was smarter than them.
Damages
A mysterious threat arrives at the office, and Patty wonders if she can continue with the case. Ellen, too, begins to suffer the strain of total dedication to her job.
LA Ink
Debut: Kat Von D leaped to fame as a guest artist on “Miami Ink,” and now she’s back home in LA with her own tattoo parlor and a TV show about it.
Big Brother
Tonight is the Power of Veto competition. Who will win? And will the winner use his/her power to save either Jen or Kail from the chopping block. If you’d like to know, head over to GMMR’s Big Brother 8 spoilers. (Note: this is the same description I used for last week’s POV episode. Jen and Kail must be getting pretty bored on the chopping block)

AGE OF LOVE Finale Spoilers – Who Did Mark Choose?

I’ll be the first one to admit that I’m shocked that I stuck with AGE OF LOVE from the first episode up through tonight’s season finale. The first few episodes were so entertaining that I was hooked. As the show progressed and some of the more fun (or fun to laugh at) ladies were let go, the show definitely lost some of its appeal, but by that time I was too invested in it to stop watching. So here we are, the season finale. SB will be providing a full recap tomorrow but I know that many of you are just dying to know who Mark chose….Amanda or Jen. The 20-something or the 40-something?
In the end Mark chose….

SYTYCD Buzz Session

This past week on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE we had to say goodbye to B-Ballers Dominic Sandoval and Sara von Gillern. Parting is such sweet sorrow, but it’s a bit easier when we know that we will see Dom and Sara on the SYTYCD Tour this summer. So just what are the latest two castoffs doing since leaving the competition? Any how did they feel about saying goodbye so close to the end?
Well the fabulous Korbi Gosh is here to bring you all the scoop. Korbi is the new host of Yahoo TV’s So You Think You Can Dance Buzz Session. Each week she will bring us a brief recap of all the performances and then sit down with the guy and gal eliminated this week from the competition. Click on the image below to check out the latest Buzz Session with Dom and Sara.
If you missed last week’s Buzz Session with Jaimie Goodwin and Kameron Bink click here to watch.
If you have any questions or comments for Korbi for future Buzz Sessions, leave a comment and let her know. I’ll be sure she gets them.
TV Guide Network aka VH1?
August 6, 2007 by Kath Skerry
This struck me as odd. In a press release today, TV Guide Network announced that it got the rights to air re-runs of past seasons of “Celebrity Fit Club”. As part of the statement it noted that the TV Guide Network also bought the rights to run repeats of “The Surreal Life,” “My Fair Brady,” “Flavor of Love,” “Strange Love,” “I Love New York” and “The Surreal Life: Fame Games.” So with all the re-runs airing, someone please tell me why I should watch the TV Guide Network and not VH1? Bizarre.
Rashida Jones in Vanity Fair

There are many, many reasons why I would like to come back as Rashida Jones in my next life. The beauty, the brains, the voice, the acting chops, the boyfriend…oh and the savings account wouldn’t suck either. If you can manage to tear yourself away from this picture, check out Rashida’s list of her favorite things from the latest issue of Vanity Fair.
Rashida will be seen in September on the fourth season of THE OFFICE and then later in the year as the star of the new Farrelly Brother comedy, UNHITCHED on FOX.

There’s a lot of TV to choose from tonight. Whether I’m mentally prepared or not, tonight I’m going to have to say goodbye to AGE OF LOVE. Mark will choose either Amanda or Jen tonight. Do I care? Not at all. I just hope they get all kinds of catty. I’m looking forward to MY BOYS tonight. We are only the third episode in of the new season and Trouty is already back…YAY!! What are you all watching tonight?
My Boys
Brendan lands on Chicago’s Top 50 Sexiest Bachelors list. Also on the list—surprise!—self-absorbed hipster Trouty (Johnny Galecki). Meanwhile, PJ is thrown a curve when sparks fly between her and a new Cubs pitcher (Travis Schuldt).
Saving Grace
A maid materializes as the prime suspect in the murder of a manager of a seedy hotel. But religious and political complications ensue when a local priest offers her a safe haven via the right of sanctuary.
The Closer
When a deputy DA’s wife is found dead, it appears to be the work of a serial killer. With the knowledge that the predator murders in threes, Brenda and her team race to apprehend him before he finishes his deadly triple play.
Age of Love
In the season finale, Mark and the remaining ladies travel to Australia, where they spend time with his family. After considering advice from his loved ones, Mark has dates with the final two and makes his big decision.
Feasting On Asphalt Gastro-nerd Alton Brown comes back for another motorcycle trip in search of great road food. This time, he and the crew will ride along the Mississippi river.
The 4400 Rival groups are trapped inside the NTAC complex, and must work together to escape. It’s sort of like Sartre, only with mutant superpowers.
The Kill Point Horst doubts Mr. Wolf’s sincerity when a hostage catches a bullet. As negotiations drag on, the getaway driver tries to find another way out.

The Cast of CHUCK at Comic-Con
August 4, 2007 by Kath Skerry
It’s been over a week and I still haven’t done my recap of the CHUCK panel from Comic-Con. Yes, I deserve those BOOs I hear in the distance (although the “You suck” was completely unnecessary).
CHUCK is one of my favorite new pilots of the Fall season, and I can’t wait for you all to see it because I know you’re going to go all kinds of crazy for it. Zach Levi, who plays Chuck, is going to blow up in a BIG way this year, and you’re going to be hearing much more about him on GMMR as he has been officially added to GMMR’s TV boyfriend list (more on the new TV boyfriend list coming next week). The show comes to us from the uber-hip Josh Schwartz who has cornered the market on the sexy, the sassy, the witty and most importantly – the adorkable.
The show is fantastic and audience at Comic-Con went nuts over the pilot and the cast at the Q&A. Check out this video of CHUCK stars Joshua Gomez and Zach Levi talking about Comic-Con and a few of the best moments from the panel. (And I promise to post my recap soon).

The Cocktail Party Primer (Episode #1)

Welcome to the first installment of The Cocktail Party Primer. GMMR’s new resident TV hipster, Mostly Martha, will be filling you in on all the latest TV news of the past week so you can be the coolest cat at the party this weekend (assuming of course that people will be talking about TV…if they’re talking about politics or the situation in Darfur this column won’t help you…at all).
So give Martha a big GMMR welcome and let’s get to it…
The Man I Marry Will Wear a Clock ‘Round His Neck
Flav’s still looking for love, The View is shocking in a very moderate way, and poor Paris just lost her job. If you’ve been chained to a desk (or tied to your TiVo, watching every episode of SINGING BEE and sighing over Joey Fatone) you might have missed the juicy tidbits that came from the TV universe this week, but have no fear Mostly Martha is here.
- If eHarmony is a little too square and you’re tired of trawling the Craiglist personals looking for that special someone, fear not. Flavor of Love is holding open casting for its upcoming third season. Finally, a chance for women who are sick of being hit on by tall, attractive, and professionally successful men without a predilection for plastic Viking helmets to find love. I’m sure I don’t just speak for myself when I say, it’s about time.
- In a continued bid to add some spice to the show with someone who’s loudmouthed and liberal but not too loudmouthed and liberal, The View announced that formerly edgy comedian and star of Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit Whoopi Goldberg will be the newest member of the team. While I’m sure Whoopi will be a perfectly adequate addition to the cast, I, for one, sure am going to miss watching Rosie reduce that little blonde bubblehead Elisabeth Hasselbeck to tears.
