It’s done. It’s finished. The winner of BIG BROTHER 8 has been crowned. The winner, with a vote of 5-2 was….
Actually, first let’s talk about what happened tonight. Julie Chen, and a live studio audience were outside of the Big Brother house and the stage was set to declare either Dick or Daniele Donato the winner of the 8th installment of BIG BROTHER. The jury, made up of the last seven houseguest evicted from the Big Brother house were assembled. But before they could cast their final vote, there were a few housekeeping items to take care of.
First up were the jury questions. Each member of the jury gets to ask a question to Dick and Daniele. Overall the questions were pretty boring. In years past, the jury asked very pointed questions about specific incidents or strategic moves that would allow each finalist to tote his/her strength. Tonight we got questions like – Daniele why should I vote for you since you cheated on your boyfriend with Nick (um, that was Amber in case you couldn’t figure it out). I mean come on…and the rest really weren’t that much better. Lame.
After the Q&A, which took place earlier in the week via satellite, it was time to introduce the jury to the live audience. Moments later the jury (Dustin, Jen, Amber, Jessica, Eric, Jameka and Zach) were joined on stage by the first five houseguests evicted: Carole, Joe, Nick, Mike & Kail – all of whom have been watching the game unfold at home.
With the idle chatter out of the way, it was time for the jury to cast their votes. One by one they inserted their voting key and got to make one final statement to the Donatos. The voting is done, but it wasn’t time to announce the winner just yet.
With all the former houseguests in the same room, it was time to unveil the big twist of Big Brother Season 8. A videotaped message from Eric revealed that he was in fact America’s Player. He got the chance to explain that at no time did he have a choice over his eviction vote nor some of his actions in the house. His former housemates sat were shocked to see that it was Eric behind some of the biggest controversies in the game including the mystery votes cast during eviction week. Everyone got a good laugh at some of the funnier tasks that Eric was assigned including getting into bed with Joe, mimicking Dick, and putting the mustard on Jen’s shirt. And Eric finally got the chance to explain why he flipped the switch and successfully campaigned to get Dustin evicted from the house – it wasn’t his choice. It was all America’s doing. Yes, tonight, we were Eric’s scapegoat.
The best part was watching Eric’s face during his videotaped reveal. As he sat by and watched himself on screen the color slowly faded from his face. You knew his only concern was Jessica’s reaction. At first I thought she was pissed but when Julie asked her about it she said she wasn’t and she thought it was all pretty funny. The minute it was over he even leaned into her and whispered that they would talk later. Save that showmance, Eric…save it.
So with all the other business out of the way it was time to get to the matter that all brought us here tonight – finding our who won Big Brother 8. Julie pulled each key out one by one. And with a final vote of 5-2….
Dick Donato was named the winner of BIG BROTHER 8. Dick was awarded a prize of $500,00 while his daughter Daniele received $50,000. Their family and friends (but not Daniele’s boyfriend) greeted them as they were released from their 81 days of seclusion.
And with this, our coverage of Big Brother 8 is over!! Thanks for coming along for the ride with me this season…it was a lot of fun. Feel free to chime in with your thoughts on Dick’s big win.

Better Dick than Daniele! 🙂
And it’s not a scapegoat, it was America’s fault! Or at least the majority that voted that way.
And it was painful watching Eric! 🙁
Danick may very well be a showmance, but Jess and Eric are NOT! 😛
I wish Daniele would have won. $50,000 minus taxes is really not enough to have school completely paid for if she hasn’t even started. She mentioned that’s what she would like to do.
I do think that Dick would give her some money though or take him along for his travels.
I liked Jessica and Eric as a couple. I hope it lasts. I also liked Daniele and Nick. I do think it sucks that her boyfriend had to find out on TV, but it’s better to know now than later that they aren’t meant to be.
I was happy that either one of them won. Dick does have plans to pay for school for both Daniele and his son Vincent.
I was just looking at the interviews from afterwards… and despite the fact that I thought Joe was annoying, I think I like him much more than I did Dustin. He was absolutely hilarious, and I kind of wish he had stayed longer.
It is always fun after the fact to go and think about all the evictions and think of what the house would be like if one had switched etc so i think that is what I’ll be doing for a while 😛
it’s been a great season.. Thanks to everyone for sharing it with me on here 🙂
I’m glad Danielle didn’t win, but you know her dad will give her the money. She’ll probably tell him that he only won because his speach at the end of the jury questioning was crappy to her. Oh well, life goes on.
I thought the question time was rather interesting. Dick and Danielle had some bad responses if they wanted to sway the jury to vote for one of them. When Eric asked Dick to say something nice about the houseguests and he just went on and insulted most of them again.
I kept saying Dick could have the votes, but no one believed me. Who voted for Daniele? Jen and Jameka? Jen and who?
Jen & Jameka!
