PUSHING DAISIES Premiere Day
October 3, 2007 by Kath Skerry
Do you believe in love at first sight? I’m not sure I did until earlier this summer when I saw a sneak peek at ABC’s new show PUSHING DAISIES. Long time readers of GMMR and listeners to the podcast have heard me gushing over this show for months now, and I’m so happy to report that today is the day. Today is the premiere of PUSHING DAISIES.
By now you’ve seen the promos, read the ringing endorsements of notable TV critics, but until you experience the show for yourself you’re not going to full understand just how special it really is. PUSHING DAISIES is unlike anything that you’ve ever seen on television and it will make you fall in love with TV all over again. The show will satisfy your senses with its vibrant look and its decidedly delicious, distinctive and daring dialogue. There is not one moment wasted in this incredible pilot – the best one I have seen since LOST.
If you love a little romance then you are going to love this show! TV romance will never be the same again after you meet Ned & Chuck. This couple will quickly be up there with the best of the best – Sam & Diane, Dave & Maddie, Joey & Dawson Pacey, Jim & Pam. Ned & Chuck go beyond ‘will they/wont’ they’ – they can’t!!! And ladies…Lee Pace – just wait and see – you’ll know what I’m talking about within the first 15 minutes of the pilot.
The show is being hailed by critics as one of the best of the season, but all seem to say it might not find an audience because it’s too quirky. I don’t think quirky is a bad thing when quirky also means smart and interesting. I hope my love for the pilot has made at least a few of your excited for the show. I promise I’m not ‘pushing’ you in the wrong direction.
As a lover of TV I’ve had my heart broken too many times in the past by truly inspired shows being ripped too soon from the air because they couldn’t find an audience. Shows that are deemed “unique” often scare people away before they are given a fair shot. I can’t let this happen to PUSHING DAISIES. So this time I decided to do something about it. I, along with my BFF and fellow TV blogger, Dan from DuckyDoesTV, decided to create a new website for the sole purpose of helping to promote the show and get others to watch. It’s called The Pie Maker and it’s already live and ready for you to check out.
Since the creation of ThePieMaker.com, we’ve been lucky enough to get the support of the amazing PUSHING DAISIES team includiink. ng creator/writer/executive producer Bryan Fuller (Wonderfalls, Heroes, Dead Like Me) and cast members including star, Lee Pace. We’ve had access to the Red Carpet for the New York Premiere of Pushing Daisies, the exclusive first look at upcoming guest stars, and just last week I spent a few hours over on the Pushing Daisies Set Visit. I even got an advance screening of the second episode.
While we’ll of course talk PUSHING DAISIES on GMMR (and we’re not done talking about it today so be prepared), I’m hoping that new fans will consider sharing their thoughts over on ThePieMaker.com. Dan and I will be actively running the site and we’re hoping that our loyal readers will join us in our new adventure.
Please click here to join GMMR in a PUSHING DAISIES discussion immediately following the pilot.
Everyone who leaves a comment tonight over at ThePieMaker.com is entered for an EXCLUSIVE Pushing Daisies giveaway with amazing prizes including Official PUSHING DAISIES crew t-shirts and an autographed “Pie-lette” script.

Oh GMMR!
I just came to your site for my morning fix just a few minutes ago. And I saw the first two posts about Pushing Daisies. (Which you never have to attempt to sell to me – I too was sold on this show after watching 2 minutes of the pilot almost a month ago).
As I started reading, I thought “all this sounds familiar.” Then I realized that you linked to thepiemaker.com’s set visit. And I thought, “Is GMMR just copying everything The Pie Maker said?” Silly me, I should have read further.
I had NO IDEA that you were the genius behind The Pie Maker. I’ve been religiously visiting that website for weeks. And now that I know you’re the one running it, I love it even more. 🙂
And I’m so ready for the adventure of Pushing Daisies tonight!!
Beckert – Thanks so much! I’m so glad you like the new site. Ducky and I loved it so much that we had to figure out a way to not completely make GMMR and DuckyDoesTV a PD fansite because we easily could.
I hope you’ll come by tonight and talk about the show over there.
The set visit was amazing, and Lee Pace….swoon!
I’m SOOO excited for the premiere. I’ve been dying to see it since May. Oh and do I smell slight competition in the favorite couple department? Should PB&J be nervous?
I’m so excited for this show!
I’ve heard it’s basically a reincarnation of Dead Like Me… any truth to that? Not that it would be a bad thing. That show was similarly pretty awesome.
Wow.
This show has been on for all of ten minutes and I am already completely hooked.
The narration, the humor, the concept… I love it. 🙂
And yeah, Psappy, I’d say Pam and Jim have their work cut out for them now.
Just finished watching the premiere. It was great! Even better than GMMR has been telling us! I guess words cannot describe, you just have to watch it to understand.
I just watched this off Tivo. It was cute – but I have these nagging questions. Like, so…if he brings something back to life and doesn’t “retouch” after a minute something else will die, what happened when he first touched his dog? And what about all those strawberries he “reanimated?” Are there people nearby that met a cruel fate because he wanted a fresh strawberry pie…or in this instance is it restricted to fruit?? See, it’s the little things that bug me. But I *LOVE* Kristen Chenoweth in anything so I’ll give it a go just on that alone.
Andrea – Good questions.
1) when he first touched the dog it was at the expense of a squirrel that fell from the tree
2) as for the strawberries…I don’t want to say much because I think it might come up in a future episode but there is an explanation to that.
I live in canada and the channel that runs it shows it on tuesday, so i got an early look and its really good, its definitly one of my favourite shows this fall next to chuck.
