Dear Dunder Mifflin Infinity…
October 8, 2007 by Kath Skerry
Dear Dunder Mifflin Infinity and the people creating the site/interactive game at NBC.com.
To date this experience has been a disappointing and colossal waste of time and has only reflected poorly on the brilliance that is THE OFFICE. The technical errors that have plagued the site from day one have affected the ability for people to interact with and enjoy the game. I’m sure you have a team working hard on this, but why not just shut it down until you can get it pulled together? Start it up in a couple of weeks…we’ll wait. Isn’t that a better option than having people just quitting and leaving out of frustration? We deserve better. I promise that if you take the time to get it right we will be along for the ride.
Thanks,
Office fans (well at least the ones here at GMMR and DM-Chicopee)

Why have Office fans not been more vocal about this. It’s a mess. I was going to quit today but if you are going to stick with it I will. They have two strikes against them, and you know what they say about that third strike.
I don’t think you are just talking for fans here at GMMR or at your branch, people everywhere are pissed. My logo is not what I submitted. So i wasted my time for nothing.

Dunder Mifflin Infinity;
“Why are you the way that you are? Honestly, every time I try to do something fun or exciting you make it not that way.
I hate so much about the things you choose to be.”
I’m sorry. But it’s true.
Please shut the site down and fix things. I’ll rub butter on the problem if you think it would help. I have Country Crock.
Sincerely Yours,
The Other Whitney
Ha ha ha!! Nice one T.O. Whitney. Well said.
I think that’s a little harsh. I don’t think we ‘deserve’ anything but a good show each week. They are doing something nice for us and all the people I know of (probably just the ones in my branch) seem to be having a bit of fun with it all.
I personally think it is hilarious. All of the glitches (wrong branches, wrong logos, chairs mysteriously disappearing) seem so ridiculous that I’m wondering if it isn’t all planned. Just speculating, but I wouldn’t put it past the crew to make this a big colossal corporate failure, much like 99% of all corporate-driven initiatives.

Christina, I’m glad you are having fun with it. Honestly I am. But for many of us it’s been a big hassle.I know the complaints I’ve been receiving daily in emails, and you can always read a bunch more over at officetally.com. I’m not giving up on it but I may have to soon.

And as for what we ‘deserve’ – well I think that’s a matter of opinion. The show is associating itself with an interactive experience that has wasted the time of a lot of people involved (just ask some of the RM’s, many of which have contacted me directly). And the people behind the game have stated that the fans have ‘deserved’ better than what they were offering as well. Just my opinion though.

#6 – What branch are you in and how exactly are you having fun? The first two tasks were boring and frustrating because they didn’t work. I don’t know much about designing this type of stuff but don’t they have to do some kind of testing before it begins to make sure it works?
I don’t know about what we deserve, this is a game that we signed up for, but I know I thought we would get something much better than this. I’ve heard that a few branch managers have already resigned because of the time they had to spend. Glad I never signed up to be a branch manager. I’m an underachiever. Kind of like Creed.
I get all the complaints and stuff and I agree about the fact that it could be much better. I suppose they wanted it up in time with season 4.
I liked the first task….the second not so much. But then mine didn’t get screwed up like I hear others did.
And maybe we are just having fun ‘cos we’re chatting it up on the Barry Gibb talk show. No wait, just chatting it up, nix the Barry Gibb talk show.
YES! I agree. I was really excited about this, but they really just didn’t seem to do any beta testing. I wanted to enjoy this, but every step just makes me more and more angry.
I hope they work it out soon, because if not… I am gone for good.
It could be fun, yes, and I’ll stick with it for that reason. And it’s fun to be a part of an Office loving group!
Maybe Michael should have been hired instead of DB….at least then we’d have some funtivities!
I definitely agree with you GMMR. I’d rather wait a month or so for them to fix everything than have things continue as is. It’s frustrating that even the branch hiring itself was so messed up and some people are showing up in two branches still so their logos were in the wrong place! I wonder why they weren’t ready for everything before they got it started. I wouldn’t have minded waiting until later in the season at all.
I’m with Andrea, I think it’s all planned to be a failure!! How great would that be. I mean, its Ryan’s big idea, his one chance to impress corporate and gain control over Michael Scott and bring Dunder Mifflin into the digital age! I really don’t think the writers would let him succeed! I am just going to sit back and wait patiently for this to come up as a big story line sometime later in the season. I am just keeping the faith in the writers and the producers that this is all part of the big picture!
Well, given everyone’s frustrustion, it would be wise that all the problems were “planned”, even perhaps it didn’t start out that way!
For what it’s worth, I think it may be a planned failure as well. Hey- we’re all talking about it aren’t we? Even though we’re all diehard fans if we’re involved, it’s still publicity isn’t it? I’m sticking with it. GO CHICAPEE!!!
What really makes me think that it is all just a gag is this missive from corporate:
“As many of you are aware, our program is still riddled with bugs. We’d like to send out an apology message, but our apology message generator is malfunctioning.”
I mean, come on! There are just way too many glitches for it not to be fake! It’s all too crazy to be believable for me, but who knows? I’ll play along and enjoy the ride. 🙂
So… wait, we don’t get to vote on a logo?? I worked really hard on my logo AND my Creed.. I had fun doing it too but I would like others to see it and vote on it, you know?
GMMR, I agree, I haven’t been able to connect to DMI for over a week now, so I haven’t been able to represent the DM-Chicopee Branch like I would have. UnDawesome.
I’ve been surfing online greater than three hours these days, but I by no indicates identified any fascinating write-up like yours. It¡¦s beautiful value sufficient for me. In my view, if all site owners and bloggers produced excellent content as you probably did, the net will likely be a lot much more beneficial than ever before.
I got what you intend, saved to fav, very good site .
I like the valuable info you supply inside your articles. I’ll bookmark your weblog and check again here frequently. I’m quite certain I’ll learn plenty of new stuff correct here! Greatest of luck for the next!
