Stephen Colbert is Running for President

Ladies & Gentleman – Stephen Colbert is running for President!! And no, I’m not kidding.
The late night faux-political talk show how made the announcement last night. Colbert, a one time correspondent on The Daily Show, made an appearance last night on Jon Stewart’s program and teased about his bid for the White House, but opted to hold off on making the official announcement waiting for a more prestigious program to announce his candidacy. Well that more prestigious program just happened to be his own, and Stephen Colbert waited a whopping 15 minutes to declare that he is in fact running for President of the United States. In an interview with The Washington Post, Colbert says he plans on filing papers with both political parties.
Some people will take issue with Colbert mocking the system as such, but I personally think it’s going to be an interesting experiment to watch. Colbert has the unique opportunity to raise questions and issues that aren’t always addressed in the political arenas such as debates. He doesn’t have to play the game because although he’s running, he’s really not.
Plus, I just really like Stephen Colbert.

This whole scenario has the feel of a movie I saw starring Robin Williams. Now all we need is a faulty computer voting system to put Colbert in office and life will truly immitate art.
I was SO excited when I watched TDS/TCR this morning. I was running around screaming, trying to find someone as excited as I am.
Plus, as a South Carolinian… well, yeah, that is just an added bonus.
I mean, I think it will be really interesting, and ya know… I can’t wait to see how it turns out!
I’m excited. I’ll vote for him.
I’m from South Carolina as well and I’m wondering if he’ll really campaign here?! ‘Cause i will so totally attend!!
I used to think that Oprah had the biggest ego in showbiz, but clearly Stephen Colbert has taken over the lead.
Awesome. Now I am torn between Colbert and Clinton!
