Bionic Woman Recap

I really can’t get the vibe on how you all are feeling about BIONIC WOMAN. I’m glad that Jo is handling the recaps because I’m about 3 episodes behind, which is saying a lot since there’s only been about 4 episodes, right? What’s your take on BIONIC WOMAN. Loving it or wish it would strangle itself with its own bionic arm? Per usual, Jo gives us a great rundown on last night’s episode.

Title: “The Education of Jaime Summers”
Original Airdate: 10.24.07
GMMR Recaper: Jo
Jaime gets to go undercover as a British exchange student. Clever, convenient or purposeful by the writers? Maybe some writers already went on strike….maybe a strike would improve a few shows including this one….

Her cell goes off in neuroscience class. The hottie TA bails her out of a jam. Points for Jaime using the word “OY!” since after my two months of a Harry Potter audio marathon, it’s my new favorite word. Nathan, the tech formerly known as Wannabe Marshall Flinkman, watches through Jaime’s bionic eye as she flirts with the hottie TA. Finally he rings her bionic ear to remind her to go break into the lab. Their phone conversation is actually entertaining, but right as I wonder too, he asks why she’s still using the accent. “A method actor.” Goodbye fourth wall. Oddly though, the accent helps her character be more interesting.

All this bionic razzamatazz and they don’t give her an earpiece for her cell phone? Like a real one, not a bionic one. She gets busted again by the prof and again hottie TA bails her out. He exchanges her alibi for a date. Cute. Burke’s character is so boring, I’m ignoring the B plot. Jaime’s class has a demonstration on a chip that stops Parkinson’s. Oh and controls you completely. Hottie TA makes out with her but Burke breaks up the fun. She drops the accent for him and I’m less impressed.

The Parkinson’s test subject attacks her. Burke and friends try to pull her off the case but she wants to stay around and make out with him some more. Why are all the good ones international terrorists? Meanwhile, I hate Jaime’s ringtone. She has to stop some illegal drop, but OY! Hottie TA is CIA!

Mr. CIA breaks up the real drop but Jaime joins in for the butt kicking. They catch the terrorists, yadda, yadda, She made an A on her English paper. Whatever and she’s back to macking with Mr. CIA.

Now, I didn’t have high hopes this week. In fact, I was this close to wanting to drop the show from my TiVo. I didn’t major in math but I do understand this equation. Little screen time for the annoying sister plus hot new lover interest minus Katee Sackhoff who acts in circles around the rest of this cast raised to the power of the British accent equals a solid effort. I’ll give it through November sweeps, but they’d better be good.

Jo lives in small town Texas, not that far from Dillon, and loves writing almost as much as watching TV. Until TV Guide or a literary agent comes knocking, she’ll keep occasionally updating, but never proofreading, her own blog http://brickstorm.blogspot.com.

I’ve been watching this show – mainly due to my inappropriate girl crush on Katee Sackhoff. I do think the lead character is a bit weak – but I actually think that speaking with her British accent was a huge improvement. Maybe she just can’t act ‘American.’
I think the biggest problem with the show is that there is no over-reaching mission. I mean Alias was very good when it was focused on Rimbaldi and bringing down SD-6. I think that the Bionic Woman would really improve if there was one mission and I think the boy-toy is a must.

PS – I actually like Burke on the show. I maybe the minority but I think he works.

I was stuck at my neighbors for HOURS last night and missed all my shows! Was Katee in this episode?

K, I’m with you. Maybe a more serial approach would help this show.

Carli, nope. No Katee in this one.

Marc Blucus called. He wants the Reily role back.

So, the writers watched their Buffy DVDs and took away all the stuff no one liked about it?
“Here’s our version of season 4 Buffy! We can set it at college, see, with the female hero and the annoying roommate. Sarah Corvis is Adam, the monster machine; we have the annoying Dawn character that every viewer wants dead; we have the mad scientist who only makes a few appearances; the male “agent” love interest who is sort of bland. That show worked. Clearly that’s what people liked!”
It was better when Buffy did it.

They need to hire a dialog doctor desperately, trim the cast (especially Burke, who has not a damn thing to do but wander through the scenes being cranky), give Jamie some puropse, and pick up the action.
I want to like the show. I really do. However, they are gonna have to meet me at least half way.

Stopped watching after the second episode. Let me know if it ever gets good.

And if Jaime figures out her personality.

    “I’m serious and mature.”

“I’m gonna make out with people and then act cocky!!”
