It Doesn’t Suck to be a Boston Sports Fan

October 26, 2007 by

To say that I’m still recovering from last night would be an understatement. It was a loooooong night. But if you’re living in Boston it was a damn good night. I was a crazy bar, with a lot of crazy loud and drunk people (and my friend Ray was their leader). The Bruins were on one TV, the BC/ VA Tech game on another, and of course the Sox on the jumbotron. Kind of nuts.

My BC friends were damn near violent as their team was down pretty much the whole game. A 4th quarter comeback to win it all sent the bar into hysterics. I was scared for my life and just held on for dear life.

The Sox had be pretty stressed out all night but kept their 2-1 lead over the Rockies to go ahead in the series 2-0. Dude, I would SO not want to meet Sox closer Jonathan Paplebon in a dark alley…I think that guy is certifiable – but in a good way. The stress really got to me in the 8th and 9th and I was not really a fun person to be around. But they held on and took the game, and once again the bar erupted into another chaotic scene.

All and all a good night. And no, this isn’t a sports blog but the games were the only things I watched on TV last night so I thought I would share.

Back to work!!

And with the Patriots playing the way they are, and a Celtics team that will be a contender, it really must be driving the rest of the country crazy!!!! It is so worth missing my regular shows, and I’ll sleep in November!

Wow, I come here to read about The Office and now I get to hear another full of it Boston fan. I guess this page will start to become another Bill Simmons column, very annoying and disappointing. ALL of your sports teams are good, we get it. And Paplebon scowls when he pitches, so scary. I used to love Bill Simmons articles, but now I cannot stand the guy. I’ve never seen as smug and arrogant, and flat out annoying fans as Boston fans have become. America used to kind of sympathize with you guys, and honestly, I rooted for the Red Sox in 04, but never again. I hope this page goes back to talking about The Office or other shows, and doesnt become another daily reminder to the rest of the world how “great” Boston is.

Kevin – Get over yourself. She said that she didn’t watch TV last night and wasn’t going to be able to write about the shows. It’s her site and she can talk about what she wants. I’m a Yankees fan and I can deal so I think you can too. Just stop being so bitter.

I don’t understand where all of the Boston hate has come from; I’ve been a diehard fan of the Red Sox for a long time and it’s really come as a surprise to me to read so many negative things [anywhere from comments on blogs to actual news articles] about the team and their fans this year. I just… don’t get it.

At any rate, Josh is right: this is GMMR’s blog and she’s free to write what she wants. It’s not like she hasn’t given us any warning about this week/next week, let alone found guest writers to keep up, and she’ll no doubt return to discussing TV [baseball aside] shortly!

Josh – I am over myself, and maybe I am bitter, sorry.

Maggie – Yes, this is her site. I’m sorry that I came off as bitter. I enjoy this site, and reading everyones comments about The Office. As a huge sports fan, I get tired of the Boston is the greatest, everywhere I turn, but maybe I just read to many sports sites. I’m not bitter they’re good, alot of the fans act like they are the center of the sports universe, like Bill Simmons.

Anyways, GMMR, I appologize for being pissy.

    Hey All –
Sorry, I haven’t read today’s comments until now. It’s all good…let’s just drop it, ok?

Kevin – sorry GMMR wasn’t what you were looking for today. Believe me, I’m really bummed that I’m just getting to Thursday night TV now (6:30pm on Friday night). Really bummed about that, believe me!! HA ha. Just talking about the Sox because if not I have nothing to talk about at all. As I said in my post above, GMMR isn’t turning into a sports blog (believe me I couldn’t hold my own). But this show is about the TV I’m watching and that’s what I’ve been watching.

No apologies necessary although we might have to throw down about Bill Simmons, because I do love him, and you will hear about him from time to time on this blog. It’s just a necessary evil.

Thanks to all that were defending my honor (lol). But let’s try to keep the discussion about the shows and not each other. Deal?

    Have a good weekend all!!
