HEROES: Losing My Patience

I didn’t know how strongly I felt about last night’s HEROES until I put my fingers to the keyboard. Forgive my babbling, but when I’m fired up, I’m fired up.
So last night was the long anticipated debut of Kristen Bell as Elle on HEROES. I’d be lying if I said it didn’t feel Veronica Mars-esque (well Veronica Mars without all the witty dialogue). But damn that girl knows how to light up a screen. It’s sad that I’m already more into Elle’s story that most other characters on the show. I’m dying to know who her daddy is. Of course my my mind went right to HRG, but that’s a little too obvious, right? Then again, HEROES isn’t too big on subtly these days so you never know.
Again I was left disappointed and underwhelmed by HEROES. I started this post with Kristen Bell because she was the only highpoint of the show last night for me. Everything else was just a big let down. The past few weeks I’ve felt like I’ve been watching HEROES out of obligation rather than for my own personal joy. What happened? Is it me losing interest or does the fault lie with HEROES.
What to Watch…Tuesday, October 23, 2007

My Tuesday night is pretty TV light as is but it might become even lighter. I gotta tell you, REAPER is not keeping my attention. I wasn’t as head over heels with the pilot as many but I still found it enjoyable, but since then the show has become a bit repetitive and formulaic and it’s losing me. I’m not one for formulaic TV, but it can be done well. For instance the same thing happens week in and week out on HOUSE, but the writing and the acting is so good that I still find it fresh and interesting. I can’t say the same about REAPER. Come you REAPER die hards…convince me to keep the show on my TiVo.
Not a lot on for me tonight…what are YOU watching.
Reaper | 9pm on The CW
“What About Blob?”
Sam finally sees the contract, but it’s in Latin and thousands of pages long. Meanwhile, his latest escaped soul turns out to be a slippery character who was involved with toxic waste.
House | 9pm on Fox
“Guardian Angels”
While having a seizure, a funeral-home cosmetician (Azura Skye) hallucinates that she’s being assaulted by one of the corpses she’s working on. And later, in the hospital, she acts as though her dead mother is in the room with her. (Watch scenes from tonight’s HOUSE)
The Office | 10 & 10:30pm on TBS
“The Fight” and “Email Surveillance”
– After Dwight karate punches Michael, Jim sets up a lunchtime rematch at Dwight’s dojo, where Pam becomes annoyed by Jim’s friendliness.
– Big Brother invades the office when Michael gains access to his employees’ e-mails and begins spying on their correspondence. Also, Michael’s ego is bruised when he’s not invited to an afterwork party.

Marie Osmond Passes Out on DANCING WITH THE STARS

A scary moment for Marie Osmond last night as she fainted just after finishing a high energy Samba during last night’s DANCING WITH THE STARS. Osmond appeared fine and was all smiles while receiving her critique from the judges, but suddenly dropped and fell to the floor.

PUSHING DAISIES Narration: Yay or Nay?
October 22, 2007 by Kath Skerry
My love for PUSHING DAISIES knows no bounds, but I know others haven’t taken to this show as I have. As a fan I’m always interested in hearing from those who don’t share my opinions. Will they bring to light something I wasn’t considering? Can I offer up a counter opinion that will convince them to give the show another chance?
In the case of PUSHING DAISIES, one of the criticisms I hear most relates to the role of the Narrator, brilliantly created by Jim Dale. Unlike other shows that have main characters providing voice over exposition, in PUSHING DAISIES the narrator serves as an essential character. The narration is such an important part of the show that without it I would feel like something was missing. But is the narration adding to the show’s brilliance or detracting from it?
ThePieMaker.com takes a look at the issue and asks readers to weigh in with their opinion.
Here’s an excerpt…
The topic of debate is the NARRATION and whether it adds or detracts from the brilliance of the show. I bring it up because Chuck (Kath..that’s me) and I realized that we’ve had this discussion with numerous people over the past three weeks who are either in love with or turned off by the narration.
I’m typically a person that doesn’t want much narration with my narrative. It’s often used for exposition or to cover something that the actor or the writer couldn’t achieve on their own within any given scene. It’s often a sign of laziness or more commonly to dumb it down for the masses.
Most of the time...

THE AMAZING RACE Returns to CBS

THE AMAZING RACE, winner of five consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Reality Competition Series, returns to CBS for its 12th season on, Sunday, Nov. 4 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT).
“If there ever was a season that I consider one of the best, it’s this one,” said Bertram van Munster,” executive producer, director and co-creator of THE AMAZING RACE. “It’s insanely funny, fast-paced and dramatic all at once. Teams are in hot pursuit of one another at every location and its reality television at its nail-biting best.”
This season, teams will travel approximately 50,000 miles, covering five new countries including Ireland, Lithuania and Croatia.
A note to any CBS execs that might be reading this: PLEASE figure out how to deal with the issues of the end of THE AMAZING RACE being cut off for those of us who record the show on DVR. With football running over, 60 Minutes gets pushed back and the end (if not more) of TAR is inevitably cut off. It’s really disappointing to your viewers and I hope you can figure out a solution.
VIVA LAUGHLIN Canceled

The first scripted casualty of the new season happened earlier today when CBS gave VIVA LAUGHIN the boot after only two episodes. I wouldn’t be alone is saying that I saw this one coming a mile away. What confused me was how it got picked up as a series in the first place. A group of jaded TV execs really thought this was going to work? Come on now. I can’t imagine how bad the other Fall pilots must have been for this one to get made.
No Viva Laughlin.
The Beginning of the End for SCRUBS

This Thursday marks the first episode in the final season of SCRUBS. The NBC show that couldn’t but somehow did has made stars of its cast, but none more so than Zach Braff. Zach and series creator Bill Lawrence recently help a press call with TV reporters and bloggers. I was busy and couldn’t make it, but my friends over at MeeVee did and they have all the scoop to share from the entertaining meeting.
Here’s an excerpt from Part I of the interview…
Question: Bill, I’m just wondering if it’s possible that the janitor will get a name and if it’s possible to clear up two mysteries at once? We’ll find out his real name is Jimmy Hoffa?
Lawrence: Yes…oh yeah, that would actually be funny if he was actually him. I could steal that and take credit for it. I always promise Neil Flynn, the guy that plays the janitor, two things: That by the end of the show he’d have a name, and he’d eventually get to have a girlfriend. So I have to make good on both of those this year.Question: There was talk in the beginning that he was in Zach’s imagination…
Lawrence: Well, yeah. I always thought this show was only going to run for one season so – in “Fight Club,” it happened, you know? He was a figment of Zach’s imagination and then, Neil Flynn, the second year, he’s like, “This show keeps going on, I’d like to talk to some of the other actors, you know?” All right, whatever.Q: I’m just wondering for the final scene, if you’ve thought about it – and just tell me it’s not going to take place in the cafeteria, there won’t be onion rings and that Elliot won’t have to learn to parallel park.
Lawrence: No, you know what, that show earned doing that because they, you know, that had such gravitas, you know, “The Sopranos.” Our show – our one responsibility is for people that like the show to watch the finale and leave satisfied and happy about what they saw. You know? And it’s a burden, but that’s all we’re shooting for.
Zach Braff: You’re never going to please everybody, but…
Lawrence: Zach, I’m going to please everyone, you watch.(Continue reading: SCRUBS Prepares for the End: Zach Braff and Bill Lawrence Talk)
OK TV Addicts, I Need Your Help!!!

Here’s the deal. I think you all have a pretty good sense of how much TV I watch on a daily basis. And if you don’t, well let’s just say that I watch more than the average TV viewer (and we’ll leave it at that). There are very few shows during the week that I TiNo (as in TiVo and watch at a later date) because I like coming on line and talking about the shows with all of you. But, primetime TV viewing is going to be a wee bit difficult over the next week or so, and that’s where I need your help.
With my Red Sox in the World Series, I’m not going to have time for a lot of my regularly scheduled programming this week. The Series starts on Wednesday night in Boston, and while I’d normally be watching “Pushing Daisies”, “Private Practice” and “Dirty Sexy Money” I’m going to be watching the game. Assuming the Series goes 7 seven games (although I’m hoping we can take down the Rockies in 4), that means 7 nights of TV shows that I’m going to be missing.
So I’m wondering if you all could help out. I’m going to be looking for a few people to do mini-reviews of TV shows starting Wednesday. Nothing too in depth, just a paragraph on what you thought of the show good or bad. Then we can open it up for other GMMRers to debate.
What do you think? You think this might work? It won’t be everyday, but I hate to not talk TV on the days after baseball games. I’d love to hear your suggestions.
Also, if you’re interested in participating and being one of the GMMR reviewers, leave a comment and let me know what shows you watch religiously and which ones you’d like to volunteer to review.

“Hamburger Postulate”
Leonard has a one-night stand with fellow scientist Leslie Winkle (Sara Gilbert). Damn, these geeks get all the love. Note: I’m giving this show one more week and then I might have to drop it. Not that it’s not good, but I need to find a few hours to actually sleep on Monday nights.

BREAKING: Joshua Jackson Coming to GREY’S ANATOMY
October 21, 2007 by Kath Skerry
Filed under Grey's Anatomy, Josh Jackson
HALLELUJAH!! My prayers have been answered. My favorite Dawson’s Creek alum, Joshua Jackson (who played Pacey Witter) is coming back to television and has landed a mutli-episode arc as a doctor on GREY’S ANATOMY!
For those of you who are regular readers of GMMR then you may now how huge this is for me. As long time fan of Jackson’s I have been suggesting for over a year now, right here on this very blog, that Josh would be a perfect fit for Seattle Grace Hospital. Josh is a brilliant actor, but also has the charm and personality to fit in with the doctors on GREY’S. Looks like Shonda is a reader of GMMR too…nah, but she certaintly knows how to get me completely reinvested in GREY’S ANATOMY.
Josh Jackson will appear for the first time during the show’s 11th episode of the season.
I’m not sure I could be any more excited right now!! And here I thought The Beek’s return to UGLY BETTY was big news!! Now if someone could only tell me what Joey Potter has been up to these days…Katie Holmes has gone completely MIA since her days on The Creek.
Thanks to Mandy and ALL of you that tipped me off to this news (I was wondering what was going on when I logged in to find over 25 new email messages).
