Warm wishes go out to my #1 TV boyfriend, John Krasinski, on the occasion of his birthday. John, if I were in L.A. I’d buy you a beer. You’d probably pull out the restraining order, but I’d at least try. You’ve had a pretty incredible year Mr. Krasinski, and I only wish you more of the same in the new year.
Cocktail Party Primer (Episode #10):In Heaven, It’s Plinko 24-7

Whether we like it or not, they’re singing in Laughlin, while the erstwhile citizens of Sunnydale and their devoted fans have effectively been silenced. If and when the writer’s strike happens at the end of the month, all TV may well be on its way to a temporary silence of its own. But until that happens, I’m going to watch, drink, gossip and be merry to bring you this week’s Cocktail Party Primer.
- Last night I had the most terrible nightmare. I dreamed that Melanie Griffith was slithering around the room, flapping her horrifying trout lips and singing Blondie’s “One Way or Another.” Oh, no, wait. That really happened on Viva Laughlin. It’s a shame, really, that the show is so distressing. I adore musicals, camp, the BBC, and the very idea of Hugh Jackman in a shiny silver suit, yet this remake of the well-liked British musical mystery leaves much to be desired. Who would have thought that combining Cop Rock, CSI, and High School Musical would end up too ridiculous to take seriously, too boring to bother singing along to, and so awkward it nearly steals the Most Squirm Inducing New Show title from Cavemen.
- And speaking of singing along, Fox has given the axe to a touring Buffy the Vampire Slayer sing-a-long of “Once More With Feeling” in the vein of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Although the expense of residual payments was though to be the cause, in a statement released today, a exec said, “In the years since the cancellation of Firefly, we at Fox have come to realize that we are capable of neither joy nor erections if we do not crap on the Whedon faithful on a regular basis. This particular crapping been so much fun, we’re thinking of giving Joss a new show next fall, just so we can delight in your crushed looks of disappointment when we cancel it.”
- The beloved stick-microphone was reborn this week when Drew Carey officially took up the reins as host of The Price is Right. Sure, Drew was wider and less tan than we’re used to, and maybe we weren’t reminded to spay and neuter our pets. But darn it, the sets were day-glo, the big wheel made its familiar bloop-bloop sound, and the Showcase Showdown was filled with fantastic prizes. Because this is America, darn it, and if there’s anything we believe in it’s loud colors, deluxe appliances, and our right to guess the price of things and, God willing, do so without going over.
- The Daily Show is putting 13,000 videos online that comprise its entire run since 1999. Viacom, which owns Comedy Central, is currently pursuing a $1 billion lawsuit against YouTube for posting clips of The Daily Show and various other Viacom-owned shows. They’re currently experimenting with different ways to incorporate copious amounts of advertising into the clips as a way of funding the venture, presumably in case that lawsuit doesn’t pan out. The show will now be called Pepsodent Presents: The Texaco Daily Show featuring John Stewart sponsored by Winston Cigarettes.
- Like some kind of train wreck proceeding at molasses speed, the writer’s strike that has been looming for months could actually happen as soon as the end of this month. The last time this happened almost two decades ago, the news magazine stepped up to fill the void left by the inadequate quantity of MacGyver episodes. This time, it’s unlikely we’ll be so lucky. Expect the networks to serve up steaming piles of new, low quality reality TV. So when you’re suffering through a thrilling edition of America’s Next Top Singing Podiatrist or Jamie Kennedy’s Celebrity Has-Been Nut Smash, remember this: at least the whole business put an end to Viva Laughlin.

THE OFFICE Redux: Money

WARNING! I am about to wax poetic about tonight’s episode of THE OFFICE (well I’m not really sure if I’m going to wax poetic because I’m not entirely sure if I know what that phrase means, but it sounded good right?). I’m not sure anyone but die hard Office fans will understand what I’m trying to say here, and then again die hards might think I’m talking a lot of nonsense. But it’s almost 3am and I can’t sleep. I can’t sleep and I feel like being dramatic and waxing poetically and talking nonsense. So yeah…
Earlier today I had a really fantastic conversation with someone during which we talked about how when you watch a really great TV show week after week you can’t help but become invested in it. Sure there is a certain expectation of what the show will deliver from the storylines, plots, etc, but with your favorite shows you come to care more about the characters than the circumstances they find themselves in. I watch a lot of TV but that’s not to say that I’m equally invested in all of them. And I can’t say I’m invested in a show more than I am with THE OFFICE.
I didn’t find tonight’s episode particularly funny. I’m not saying there weren’t funny parts because of course there were, and we will get to those, but while I was watching I didn’t find myself laughing out loud as much as I normally do. I actually was a bit bewildered and thrown off guard by the darker tone – a tone I wasn’t used to on this show. My lack of laughter directly affected my overall opinion of the episode, and so when the show ended at 10pm all I could think of was how bummed out I was. See I look forward to The Office all week, so to be left feeling underwhelmed, well it kind of sucked.
I was actually all prepared to come here and just go on and one about how horrible tonight’s show was. But then I went back and did what I always do with every episode of THE OFFICE…I watched it again. Actually I’ve watched it almost three times since the show ended and you know what? I didn’t find it any funnier than the first time I watched it. But (oh yes there’s a but) after the subsequent viewings, I can definitely say that although it wasn’t one of my favorites,I really, truly enjoyed the episode.

Top 25 OFFICE Moments…
Rolling Stone just named its Top 25 moments from THE OFFICE. From Michael wearing a women’s suit in “The Negotiation” to when Pam finds Michael’s screenplay “Threat Level: Midnight” for the whole office to enjoy – many of the best moments of the show are chronicled for all of us to relive. Based on a poll from a few months back, I think the favorite moment of GMMR readers (at least of Season 3) has to be Jim dressing up as Dwight. “Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.”Did your favorite moments make the cut? If not, leave a comment and tell us what Rolling Stone missed. (Top 25 Moments)

My eyes are literally fighting to stay open. I refused to sleep until I got my fill of GOSSIP GIRL. And now that I have the latest on S, B, and Lonely Boy I can drift off to sleep and have pleasant dreams of Ned the Jedi-wannabe Pie Maker. Thursday morning I’ll be off with Amaury Nolasco so I’m hoping that all of YOU will take over GMMR for me and keep the conversation going until I get back. I expect to hear what you thought of all of Wednesday night’s shows.
Be nice to my blog while I’m gone.
BIONIC WOMAN Recap: Face Off
October 18, 2007 by Kath Skerry
Title: “Face Off”
Original Airdate: October 17, 2007
GMMR Recapper: Jo
Jaime bionically runs and jumps and busts up the Whiny Sister’s make out session. This causes Wannabe Marshall, formerly the annoying quad rugby player on FNL (did you notice they recast his character on FNL last week?), fixes her broken toe. More hard rock, thank you, in the form of Evanescence. Sarah Corvus plays some poker before her lover, Future Hiro’s Less Cool Brother breaks up the fun. Katee’s crazy dialogue steals the scene and as long as he is sans sword and soul patch, I will continue to refer to him as FHLCB.
Jaime and Burke get to go to Paraguay to rescue a kidnapped doctor. In another brilliant moment, Sarah is wheeled into One Government Conspiracy on a dolly, all Hannibal Lecter like. Sarah and Jonas have some words. Sarah wants to be fixed; Jonas wants Dead Will’s dad back. Deadlock.

ATTN: PRISON BREAK & Amaury Nolasco Fans

UPDATE: What a fabulous time I had chatting with Amaury this morning. This guy is sweet, adorable, and just a hell of a nice guy. About two minutes into it I felt like I had known him forever and we had a really great conversation. I’ll be back soon with more details of our talk. Thanks for all the questions!!!
Tomorrow morning I have the distinct pleasure of kickin’ it old school with none other than Amaury Nolasco who plays Fernando Sucre on PRISON BREAK. Amaury’s going to be in Boston doing some press and he and I are going to meet up for some coffee and chit chat when he’s done. Yeah, my life doesn’t suck.
There’s obviously a ton going on with Prison Break these days, and yes of course I’ll ask him about the departure of Sarah Wayne Callies. But if you have questions for Amaury about the show and/or his character, Sucre, then leave a comment and let me know ASAP.
Until then, I have to figure out what I’m going to wear tomorrow!!!
Stephen Colbert is Running for President
October 17, 2007 by Kath Skerry

Ladies & Gentleman – Stephen Colbert is running for President!! And no, I’m not kidding.
The late night faux-political talk show how made the announcement last night. Colbert, a one time correspondent on The Daily Show, made an appearance last night on Jon Stewart’s program and teased about his bid for the White House, but opted to hold off on making the official announcement waiting for a more prestigious program to announce his candidacy. Well that more prestigious program just happened to be his own, and Stephen Colbert waited a whopping 15 minutes to declare that he is in fact running for President of the United States. In an interview with The Washington Post, Colbert says he plans on filing papers with both political parties.
Some people will take issue with Colbert mocking the system as such, but I personally think it’s going to be an interesting experiment to watch. Colbert has the unique opportunity to raise questions and issues that aren’t always addressed in the political arenas such as debates. He doesn’t have to play the game because although he’s running, he’s really not.
Plus, I just really like Stephen Colbert.
Wade Robson on Dancing with the Stars (Video)

The brilliant dancer/choreographer Wade Robson brought his unique style of dance to DANCING WITH THE STARS last night. As I mentioned yesterday I was a little disappointed that Wade would bother with Dancing with the Stars given his affiliation with SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, but I guess at the end of the day it’s all about the dancing.
And I think it was good for DwtS fans to see what REAL dancing is all about. Tune in to SYTYCD and this is the type of groundbreaking routines you will see every week.
SYTYCD fans already should keep an eye out for Travis Wall who is rumored to be in this number.
Thanks to Ducky for the video.
