CHUCK Recap: Chuck vs. the Tango

I hope you all are enjoying CHUCK as much as SB and I are. I thought last night’s episode was funny stuff, and you know I like the funny. I’m all caught up on the screeners from NBC so next week is the first new episode for me in quite some time, and I can’t wait.
What’s your take on CHUCK? Are you loving it or ready to “chuck” it out the window (bad, I know). Remember, for only one comment per post you can save the life of a GMMR recapper.
Episode: “Chuck vs. The Tango”
Original Airdate: 10.08.07
GMMR Recapper: SB
You all will be so happy to know that I had my Mexican food and made it back in time for the beginning of Chuck this week! SB, you say, do you eat Mexican food EVERY Monday? No, but close. Anyway, I was really glad I made it back because Chuck got new opening credits this week! Very cool, kind of animated almost James Bond-esque graphics. Loved that.
I’ll go ahead and recount the plot for you real quick, but I have to just go ahead and say that I have realized that the plot is always going to be a distant second for me with this show, and that it’s more of a vehicle for the funny and awesome character moments than really important by itself. But just in case you missed it …
Sarah and Casey throw down some pictures of dead people and Chuck has the flashes that tell him that they were murdered by La Ciudad, an arms dealer wanted in several countries. (Also, why does this person have a name that translates to “The City”?) La Ciudad will be at an art auction to sell a painting with an explosive device in the frame, but no one who has seen him (who actually turns out to be a her) and lived, so they don’t know what “he” looks like. They decide to take Chuck to the art auction as Sarah’s date (Casey will be bartending), hoping that he’ll see something that triggers a flash. Chuck ends up tangoing (the girl part, thanks to Captain Awesome’s lessons) with La Ciudad who then takes him to her room, ties him to a chair (not as fun as it sounds), performs the wimpiest torture on him you can imagine to get info, and is about to kill him when Sarah and Casey come in and save the day. Unfortunately, he drops his Buy More employee ID so they vow to come back and kill him, and of course they don’t. Also, there is a little side plot going on with one of Chuck’s old Stanford classmates who sold his software business but who also has some shady money deals going on and is paranoid that he’s been caught.

Tuesday – my almost night off from television. I know REAPER and HOUSE are on the radar for sure, and I thought I would give the second episode of CARPOOLERS a look. I didn’t love the pilot, but since it’s an easy TV night I thought I would give it another shot.
Carpoolers | 8:30pm on ABC
“Laird of the Ring”
Laird borrows Gracen’s wedding ring to impress a woman who likes married men; Dougie sees Aubrey going to a motel and thinks he’s having an affair; and Marmaduke suspects that Laird is his father.
Reaper | 9pm on The CW
“All Mine”
The Devil has Sam collect the soul of an angry mistress (Julia Anderson) because she’s causing the deaths of people who get too close to her former lover by sending bugs to attack them. Meanwhile, Sam frets that Andi will quit the Work Bench.
House | 9pm on Fox
“97 Seconds”
When a man in a wheelchair who fainted while crossing a street arrives at the hospital, House tells the 10 remaining candidates to divide themselves into teams. The one that diagnoses the man properly won’t be fired. They split up based on gender. (Watch scenes from tonight’s HOUSE)
The Office | 10 & 10:30pm on TBS
Episodes TBD
Not sure what eps are going to be airing tonight because TBS was planning for a playoff game. They didn’t plan on the Red Sox sweeping the Angels and the Indians kickin’ some Yankee ass.

Title: “Good Fences”

No!! No, no, no no!! Prison Break how can you do this to me? I’ve been defending you for so long and this is how you repay me? I can’t. I just can’t. But I guess I have to because I’m in it for the long haul now and I don’t know if I have the power to stay away – damn you Wentworth Miller and your smoldering looks.

Dear Dunder Mifflin Infinity…

Dear Dunder Mifflin Infinity and the people creating the site/interactive game at NBC.com.
To date this experience has been a disappointing and colossal waste of time and has only reflected poorly on the brilliance that is THE OFFICE. The technical errors that have plagued the site from day one have affected the ability for people to interact with and enjoy the game. I’m sure you have a team working hard on this, but why not just shut it down until you can get it pulled together? Start it up in a couple of weeks…we’ll wait. Isn’t that a better option than having people just quitting and leaving out of frustration? We deserve better. I promise that if you take the time to get it right we will be along for the ride.
Thanks,
Office fans (well at least the ones here at GMMR and DM-Chicopee)
HOUSE Spoilers: Sneak Peek of This Week’s Episode

This season’s HOUSE continues to deliver. Here’s a sneak peek at tomorrow night’s episode.
“97 Seconds” airing on Tuesday @ 9/8c on Fox.
The final 10 fellowship candidates compete ferociously when House splits them into two teams by gender. They are assigned to diagnose and treat a wheelchair-bound man with muscular atrophy who is slowly suffocating. As the two teams are trying to one-up each other, complications arise when one team treats the patient but doesn’t follow through to make sure their treatment was executed. While the students are busy with their assignment, House experiments on himself to see what happens in the moments when people hover between life and death. Meanwhile, Foreman runs his own team of fellows in his new job at another hospital, and resorts to using a very “House-like” treatment to help a patient.

UGLY BETTY Spoilers: Amazing Guest Stars This Season

The brace-faced girl that we all just adore, Betty Suarez, has had it rough since joining the staff of Mode Magazine about a year ago. Forget about the stress of a new job, Betty’s dealt with murders, sex changes, deportation, and love (lost and then found again only to be lost and possibly found again). Betty needs a break, but it doesn’t look like she’s going to be getting one any time soon…not at least from some of the new faces stopping by Mode.

Really Saturday Night Live…you’ve got a full week to come up with sketches for a live show and that’s the best you could do? Really? You’ve got amazingly talented people like Samberg, Sudekis, Poehler, Hader, Rudolph, Wiig among others, and you still manage to NOT make me laugh? Really. We’ve seen Studio 60 and 30 Rock and know that many sketches are cut each week for time, but you all insist on dragging out each sketch until you beat the funny out of it, now really, couldn’t you chop the length of some of the unfunny and add a new few sketches in? Really. Do I really have to cross my fingers in the hopes that Andy Samberg will have a digital short just so I can laugh one time during the hour and a half? Really. Oh and do you really think by showing countless variations of the MacGruber sketch it will get funnier? Yeah, it won’t…really.
Saturday Night Live you are a living legend and I’m not going away anytime soon, but really, would it kill you to make me laugh? Really.
Here’s the few times I laughed during the 90-minute show this weekend.

So Say We All: YOUR Take on Weekend TV
October 8, 2007 by Kath Skerry
Filed under Brothers & Sisters, Friday Night Lights
There was a lot of TV to watch this weekend. Some I got to, some is going to have to wait until after work tonight. Here’s my random, terribly written take on the shows I watched this weekend. What did you watch this weekend? Feel free to chime in on these shows as well as anything else you watched:
Moonlight
Wow, Friday was the second episode and I realized we haven’t talked about the show yet. As has been well documented on GMMR, this show wasn’t even on my radar until it was announced that Veronica Mars alum, Jason Dohring, was joining the cast. I waited all summer for the revised pilot episode and when I finally got it about a week before it aired I sadly thought it was just ok. While I really enjoyed Alex O’Loughlin as Mick St. John I was a little “eh” after the first episode. I thought it seemed rush (as most pilots do) and that things were just a little too convenient. And if that weren’t enough, I wasn’t loving Jason Dohring in his new role. He had two big scenes in the pilot – the first was a flat imitation of Logan Echolls, but the second scene was stronger – like he found the character. I wasn’t in love but I was still not giving up on it.
Fast forward to this Friday, and I gotta tell you – I really liked MOONLIGHT. I’m not saying it’s the best show on TV, but I thought it was interesting and just campy enough that I was compelled to sit and watch the full episode. I’d be lying if I was saying that I wasn’t a little creeped out by the vampire stuff. I mean, I can’t watch the screen when they’re drinking the blood because it makes me want to hurl, but I liked the second episode…a lot. And Jason Dohring really settled in as Josef which thrills me to no end. And the ending with the big reveal? I so wasn’t expecting that this early in the show. I’m so intrigued to see how it plays out next week.
Any of you watching MOONLIGHT or is just me? And will someone give me mad props for the new MOONLIGHT header I made. I’m very proud of myself..HA!
Friday Night Lights
Oh snap! I think I forget to remind you that FNL premiered on Friday. I kid, of course, but I’m hoping that a few of you tuned in for the first time. The season premiere was something to talk about, wasn’t it? That opening sequence by the pool was enough to make me fall in love all over again with this phenomenal show. I mean WWRD? Tim Riggins – Captain of the S.S. TaTa’s! That’s some good stuff. As usual, Connie Britton and Kyle Chandler stole the show with their phenomenal acting. The scene where Eric tells Tami he has to head back to Austin early, and she stares at nothing and fights back the tears!! Emmy moment right there people – she is amazing. Of course we have to talk about Landry & Tyra (whom I love love love). I fear that not everyone has seen it so I don’t want to say exactly what happened, but this is what I have to say: I trust the writers. They haven’t let me down yet, so I’m going to stick with it and see where the story goes. I was a little bummed that they introduced a storyline that was decidedly not “Friday Night Lights”, but hey, maybe it will work itself out. The best part of the show was knowing that we get another new episode this coming Thursday.
Any newbies on board who watched for the first time? What did you think? And those of us already in love, did the season premiere live up to your expectations?
What to Watch…Monday, October 8, 2007

Today is a weird day. I’ve always considered Columbus Day a holiday, but I guess it’s not for some (including those at my real job). Is it a holiday for you?
Anyway, a bit behind this morning but here’s a look at what’s on the ol’ TV tonight. Lots to watch, so double check the TiVos to make everything is set up to go. And if you don’t have a TiVo, how do you choose which show to watch?
How I Met Your Mother | 8pm on CBS
“Third Wheel”
Two beautiful women are attracted to Ted and rather than choose, he begins, with the urging of his friends, to see a new daring possibility. Trudy: Danica McKellar. Rachel: Busy Philipps.
The Big Bang Theory | 8:30pm on CBS
“The Fuzzy Boots Corollary”
With the encouragement of his friends, Leonard gathers his courage and asks a woman out on a date. Leslie: Sara Gilbert. Doug: Allen Nabors.
So I wasn’t all that impressed with the pilot episode of “The Big Bang Theory”. It didn’t strike me as all that funny. But more than a few of you have checked it out over the past few week’s and have used the “So Say We All” forum to tell me (and others) just how much you’ve been laughing. Since I trust your opinion, I am going to give this show another watch tonight. I’m always looking for a good laugh and maybe I rushed to judgment a little too quickly on this one.
Chuck | 8pm on NBC
“Chuck Versus the Tango”
It’s the revenge of the nerd when Chuck delves into his very first undercover spy mission: He tries to take down a mysterious, elusive arms dealer named La Ciudad. Elsewhere, in his real life, he sets out to become assistant store manager.
Can I just say that if you haven’t fallen head over heels for Zachary Levi (Chuck Bartowski) yet, tonight may be the night. I got an early look at tonight’s episode and I really loved it. I think this show is at its best when it brings out the funny and it does just that tonight. Chuck isn’t landing helicopters like he was last week, but he tackles something far more complicated…the tango, with the one person that can show him how it’s done – Captain Awesome.
Prison Break | 8pm on Fox
“Good Fences”
After failing to rescue LJ and Sara, Linc receives an ominous warning from the Company; Michael plans an electrifying escape from Sona; a face from the past haunts Mahone; T-Bag crawls up the ladder while Bellick lands in hot water with Lechero.
Heroes | 9pm on NBC
“Kindred”
Suresh fears for a friend after unearthing a painting by Isaac that foretells death. Ando returns to Japan and makes a happy discovery; while in the past, Hiro is surprised by his childhood hero, Kensei. And two familiar faces return unexpectedly.
Journeyman | 10pm on NBC
“Game Three”
Dan is transported back 18 years to warn San Francisco of a looming disaster and prevent a man from entering a life of addiction. In the present, Katie learns Dan has been in contact with Livia, despite his claims to the contrary.
