THE AMAZING RACE Season 12
November 4, 2007 by Kath Skerry
Guys so sorry that I forgot to remind you that tonight was the premiere of the 12th season of THE AMAZING RACE. Hopefully you all were better than me about remembering it was on. I didn’t have the TiVo set and got home a bit late but luckily my TV was already on CBS so I caught the whole show. Whew!!
So tonight was our first glimpse at the new teams in action. I can already see that many of the teams are going to have some communication issues this season. There was lots of screaming, yelling, bitching and tears and this is only the first leg people…you’ve (hopefully) got a long race ahead of you.
The teams started off in L.A. and found out that their first stop was Ireland, a country that The Amazing Race had never visited before (which I found odd and interesting). The teams tried not to get lost and raced to the airport. Not all of the teams made the first flight, and those who didn’t had to scramble to find an alternative airline. In an odd twist for the first episode, the main flight was delayed so those in the back of pack who had to find a different flight actually landed in Ireland first. Gotta love when that happens.
Once in Ireland the teams faced their first roadblock. One member had to drive a bicycle perched on a wire across a river while their partner sat on a pendulum-like seat hanging below. Once again I was reminded that I wouldn’t last one day on this race. None of the teams had real issues and it was on to the next task. Donkeys!
In this task the teams had to load up two baskets on either side of their donkey and bring the donkey safely across to the other side of the field to get their clue. Some of the teams found this to be easy while others struggled and proved that they were bigger asses then the donkeys. Dude, how do you not know that the main characteristic of a donkey is that it is stubborn? Screaming at it, kicking it and hitting its head isn’t really going to work. I couldn’t believe these people. CBS is certainly getting a few letters from PETA for this one. I was happy that one of the donkey hating teams was eliminated. See ya!! Hope the donkey hits you in the ass on the way out.
Team #1…
In the end it was Azaria and Hendekea who were the first to meet Phil on the mat. They didn’t play a clean leg, but they pulled it out in the end and that’s really all that mattered.
You are the last team to arrive. I’m sorry to say that you have been eliminated from the race….
Donkey-haters, Ari (or was that Ross the Intern) and Staella came in last and were booted. Booted like the asses that they were. Be kind to animals and life may be kind to you.
Please tell me that some of you are big fans of this show! I hate to not have anyone to talk to about it!! Any team favorites so far? For me it’s too early to choose, I don’t have enough to go one. But I think I like the Goths and the married lesbian ministers the most. I’m sure that will change next week.
So happy to be back in the race!

Congratulations to “Viva Laughlin” for giving us back the Race! I can’t believe how many dating couples are in this season. Plenty of hissy fits are going to be in store! Ari & Staella were determined to be major players and in the end they get booted off thanks to a donkey. You gotta love it!

I’m totally excited that the show is back on. It was only the first leg and you already had two couples freaking out. I don’t know if I trust the hippies, the “newly dating” gives me that Eric and Danielle vibe. And did all those people think they were going to make the donkeys go by pulling on them.
“Oh my goth…” Yeah, I’m glad the race is back. “The Amazing Race is like a love letter to the planet…”
Oh dear, I completely forgot about it… but I was at the Indy show of So You Think You Can Dance – and that’s an amazing excuse to have. I suppose I’ll have to watch it on the CBS site.
I love this show! It is on my list of top whatever. The theme music alone gets me giddy. I think it’s because I don’t think I’d make it past the first day and I am living vicariously. Totally was thrilled that the couple that took the other folks cab got it in the end. I know it’s not cool to glom onto the top finishing team as favorites right off the bat but I like Azaria and Hendekea for the win. They are obviously very smart and physically fit – a killer combo. Plus, they showed good karma by sharing their room and being kind in general – see karma wins out, or so I say.
I too am a huge fan of the Race! 5 Emmy’s for Outstanding Reality Competition – all well deserved! I was glad that karma took a bite out of the poor man’s Will & Grace duo. Stealing the cab, openly planning to be a bitch and no animal love in sight all led to their downfall…although, Nate and Jen were bugging! I don’t see that relationship enduring any hardships soon.
Too early to have a fave, but currently rooting for the brother/sister from New Orleans.
Oh, you’re not alone, GMMR. I think there are many “Amazing Race” viewing parties scattered around on Sunday nites. I LOVE LOVE LOVE this show and am so glad its back. And in this time of the writer’s strike (go WGA!), it is nice to know that while some of our fave programs may shut down (gasp! tear), we will be racing this one to the end.
I will be rooting for the Grampa/Grandson, the Asian Father/Daugher team and the hippies!!
So happy TAR is back! It must’ve been so frustrating to lose because of a donkey…aka karma. I’m rooting for the father/daughter team (the dad is too funny), the hippies and some other team that I can’t remember LOL
I can’t believe i missed the first episode last night…does anyone know how i can watch it…any re-runs during the week or on a website??
I can’t believe i missed the first episode last night…do you know where i can watch it…maybe a re-run later in the week or on a website somewhere?
I am so glad to see The Amazing Race back! This is my favorite show, and I loved the glimpses we got of Ireland last night. The brother/sister team seem like good competitors – young, fit, seem to stay calm under pressure. If they also have a bit of good luck on their side, they should go far.
I liked the father/daughter last night, but I see in next week’s previews that the daughter will feel her father is too hard on her, and seems to have a little melt down. Could spell trouble if this makes them lose their focus or their cool under pressure. My son loved it when the dad finished the bike roadblock and said “not bad for an old fart,” so this is now his fav team.
