UGLY BETTY Redux: Giving Up the Ghost

Ugly Betty

My quick two cents on last night’s UGLY BETTY: I was left feeling about as blank as this week’s cover of Mode (but without the fancy type)

If I’m being honest, I was a little underwhelmed by last night’s episode of UGLY BETTY. It was a big episode for the show, with Wilhemina and Mark leaving Mode to start Slater Magazine, but on the whole it seemed a little flat. I think my overall opinion of the episode was dictated by my annoyance with the tired Betty/Daniel storyline. How many times are we going to have to see Betty coddle Daniel through his Daddy issues (well probably not too many more since Bradford is dead) and give him the pop talk he needs to succeed. It would have been sweet if we hadn’t already seen it play out about 500 times before. Daniel is such a child, and if he knew any better he would have Betty helping to run the magazine and not hold her back as his assistant. Oh and I don’t like the idea of not seeing Marc and Amanda working together everyday, so here’s to hoping that Slater never takes off and that Willie comes crawling back to Mode on her hands and knees (with her assistant in tow).

I like my Ugly Betty with a side of geeky and/or gay romance and there really wasn’t much of that last night. Henry was there but he was too busy in his new role of Accountant and Mode Food Editor to romance Betty. Not that Betty would have had time for it breaking Eliza Dushku (who was the highlight of the episode by the way) out of rehab. There was a mention of Cliff, but we didn’t get to see Marc’s bear of a boyfriend. Hopefully next week.

So was I way off about last night’s episode? Were you all loving it much more than me?

I thought it was an okay episode. Nothing too amazing. I enjoy Marc and Amanda too so hopefully we’ll get that back soon.
