I Love CBS Comedies…When Did That Happen?

November 27, 2007 by

Before we get into my thoughts on last night’s episode of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER, I wanted to take a minute to let you all know that THE BIG BANG THEORY is now back on my list of appointment TV for Monday night (like I needed another show). I didn’t love the pilot, but based on a few recs I started watching a few here and there and found them funny, but I just couldn’t commit to another show. But what I didn’t realize was that my second DVR had been recording the show every week. So after a mini-marathon this weekend, capped off by last night’s hilarious episode (a repeat I hadn’t seen), I just want to say that Sheldon, Louis, Penny and the boys have now made it to the (not so) exclusive GMMR watchlist. If you haven’t checked it out, give it a shot…it’s pretty damn funny. Bring on Sheldon!!

Here are two scenes that had me laughing from last night’s episode:

How I Met Your Mother

How I Met Your Mother
After last week’s Slapsgiving Day episode I knew the episode we got this week was going to be a bit of a let down. And I was right. Usually I’m all for Barney being the focus of the episode but last night was so much about Barney that the rest of the cast just felt like filler. The gym storyline seemed to be an afterthought, and an unfunny one at that. I was happy to see pre-suit, hippy Barney and the return Wayne Brady as his pre-gay (but not so much) brother James so. It kills me to criticize this show because it’s one of my favorites, but I thought Barney getting the ‘yips’ at the Victoria’s Secret party was a bit overdone. It was funny, don’t get me wrong, but that scenario had so much potential and I think with better writing Neil Patrick Harris could have done a lot more with it. Overall, an enjoyable episode but I didn’t laugh out loud as I normally do (or as much as I did during The Big Bang Theory).

Any excuse to see NPH without his shirt on is a HUGE plus in my book.

So glad that you gave The Big Bang Theory another chance. It is the big surprise of this season for me because I just didn’t expect to enjoy it so much. I purchased the eight episodes available on iTunes, since I can’t purchase The Office there any longer.

Yeah, I’ve been watching and enjoying The Big Bang Theory as well, there’s clichés and sometimes it fails, but it’s usually pretty funny!
To be fair, Sheldon is the one making the whole thing work, and me laugh.

I disagree on HIMYM though, I liked the episode. The gym had its moments, even though it wasn’t as great as, and I was laughing out loud watching Barney at the VS show, this guy is awesome!

I’m loving the Big Bang Theory! It sometimes makes me laugh more than HIMYM (which makes me sad). Sheldon is love! He’s so adorable and inept.. and for some reason that’s endearing.

Me too! Just started watching the Big Bang yesterday, and was surprised at how funny it was. New DVR addition.

I watched Big Bang last night and loved it. I will be giving the show a second chance.

I’ve seen about four episodes of Big Bang and while it can be cliche-ridden, it is pretty funny. Those two clips you posted made me LOL. Whenever they have old Roseanne alums on it gets even better.

    I HEART BBT and Sheldon!
    It really is his show.

NPH naked chest was pretty spectacular last night too.
    All the good ones…

If you ever wanted an insight into the life of Scooter McGavin, the inname Superman discussion pretty much sums it up. The most recent totally absurb arguement: What is the stupid love song Kelly Clarkson fell for in Since U Been Gone.

As for the show, the show does a better job than most shows nailing the nerd culture but it still confuses nerd with geeks sometimes which bugs me.

Oh, and for the record, the correct answer is Crash Into Me by the Dave Matthews Band (granted that arguement is for an alternative universe where Kelly actually wrote the song).
