Boston TV Party – Join Us & Support the WGA
December 11, 2007 by Kath Skerry
Boston-area writers and fans will rally and march on Friday, December 14th in support of the Writers Guild of America strike, in an event they call the “Boston TV Party.”
When: 12 noon – 3pm
Where: Meeting House of the First Parish Church
3 Church St., Cambridge, MA, 02138.
RSVP: Seats are on a first come first served basis. Call 212-767-7843 and leave the number of people in your party. But get there early.
Speakers will include Joss Whedon (“Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Angel,” “Firefly”), Rob Kutner (“The Daily Show with Jon Stewart”), Jaime Paglia (“Eureka”) and surprise celebrity guests to be announced.
Help Me Make a Sign!!!
Everyone attending are encouraged to bring their own picket signs. Help me come up with a cool slogan for my sign. As of now it’s “TV Bloggers for TV Writers” but if you can come up with something better I’m open to it.
All slogans suggested should be for general TV and not just one show (since we talk about a lot of them on this site) & should be in good taste. The slogan shouldn’t be too long (since we want people to read it) & should require little creativity on my part (since I’m not at all artistic).
I’m going to be there and I hope to meet some GMMR readers!!
More on the event after the jump…
The Boston TV Party will support the Writers Guild of America strike that began on November 5, 2007. Approximately 10,500 members of the Writers Guild of America, East (WGAE) and Writers Guild of America, West (WGAW), who are screenwriters and television entertainment writers, are on strike. The key issue in the negotiations is new media. Writers want fair compensation for their work whenever and wherever it is used, including Internet channels, downloads such as iTunes, webisodes and mobisodes on mobile phones.
Following the rally will be a march across Harvard Square to a rally around the historic Harvard Lampoon building. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own picket signs. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please RSVP to 212-767-7843 and leave the number of people in your party.
Parking in Harvard Square is limited, so people are encouraged to take public transportation. The Meeting House of the First Parish is located on the corner of Church Street and Massachusetts Ave., directly across from the Harvard Square T stop on the Red Line. Entrance is on Massachusetts Ave.

Say hi to Mindy, BJ and/or John if they go!
Ha ha. Yeah, wouldn’t that be nice. I’m not holding my breath. Although it is being held in Cambridge (where Mindy grew up) and it being put on in conjunction with the Harvard Lampoon. BJ went to Harvard and he’s in the WGA so there’s that. Rashida Jones went to Harvard as well, and if she’s there well then….
Yeah, they won’t be there, but it’s going to be a great day all the same. I’m looking forward to being able to help out.
Oh shoot, I’m in the area until Thursday : (
Boy do I wish I could play hooky for the day and join you! I’m glad the event is getting press in the Boston area, The Herald just had an article about it. Maybe some signs with no words. No writers = no words.
Is “Give Me My Residuals” too obvious? 😉
“We write scripts when you write checks”
We can’t write this $#!%
I’d rather work for Michael Scott than Jeff Zucker
We don’t write while you’re still wrong.
K I’m done. Not sure they’re getting any better! Have a great time. Stay warm!
aagh! i cant believe this is happening smack dab in the middle of the day! if only i didnt have to work… i feel like it’s a rare occasion when something like this comes to boston.
I just RSVPed 🙂 How early are you getting there? Since its just me, I was thinking 11, but even then I’m worried I wouldn’t get a seat!
united we stand
divided we fall
we will prevail!
