New Kids on the Block to Reunite!
January 27, 2008 by Kath Skerry

Next to word that the WGA strike is over, or that John Krasinski has declared his undying love and devotion to me, the reunion of New Kids on the Block could be the best news I’ve heard in a long time.
According to People Magazine, a source says that the Boston boys are reuniting. Donnie Wahlberg, Joey McIntyre, Jordan Knight, Jonathan Knight and Danny Wood are said to be making the announcement sometime over the next few weeks. I know NKOTB isn’t for everyone, but I’m a 31 year old woman who grew up in Boston – the New Kids were my world in my teen years. I remember attending my first (of many) NKOTB concerts sporting a jean jacket covered with oversized NKOTB pins featuring Donnie and Joey Joe (my two favorites). The walls of my bedroom were covered with pics of the boys from Tiger Beat and The Big Bopper to the point that no part of the wall could be seen. Ah memories.
I’m a bit surprised to hear of the reunion. While I can imagine Joey, Jordan and Danny wanting to be involved, Jonathan has always been a reluctant member of the group (even at the height of their success) and Donnie is now a respected actor in Hollywood. But I guess everyone has their reasons, and I don’t care what they are as long as I can see the boys reunited one more time.
I have no clue what this reunion will be. A one time concert? A new album? But no matter what I’m there!
(Just to show that the New Kids on the Block love has never quite gone away, here’s a pic of our NKOTB decorated room from a house we rented in Chatham, MA…two years ago. And yes, Kim would be sporting an authentic NKOTB tour jacket.)

We haven’t had much of an award season this year, so tonight’s Screen Actors Guild Awards, airing at 8pm on TBS, are especially exciting. The best from the movies, and more importantly TV, will be walking the red carpet tonight. I’m going to be LIVE blogging the awards starting a little bit before 8pm EST tonight. If you’re going to be watching, drop me a line in the comments and let me know. Awards shows are always so much more fun watching with others (even if it is online)

A big thank you goes out to GMMR reader, Mitch, who sent along this video – one of my favorite DAILY SHOW moments of all time. This is a 1999 clip of former TDS correspondent, Mo Rooca, going head-to-head with a polka loving, Garfield hating Polishman. I’ve been looking around for this clip for a long time, and Mitch finally found it!!
This one is dedicated to my sister, Karen – this will make her day!!
CHUCK Recap: “Chuck vs. The Marlin”
January 25, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Episode: “Chuck vs. The Marlin”
Original Airdate: 1.24.08
GMMR Recapper: SB
Two episodes in one night! I’m still not over it. Anyway, this one had two major things going on: one, that Fulcrum was getting closer to figuring out who the Intersect was; and two, that Awesome wanted to propose to Ellie and Chuck was supposed to be guarding the ring.
Okay, so it starts out that Chuck finds a bug in the store and thinks it’s one of Casey’s that he’s been using to eavesdrop on Chuck. It turns out to belong to Fulcrum and there is a receiver somewhere in the store, and Casey and Sarah have 48 hours to find it. Big Mike comes in the next morning to discover that everything in the store has been stolen, including the giant marlin over his desk that, hilariously, he purchased on eBay. He falls over, which begins the first of many “funny” physical comedy jokes that pepper this episode.
A “detective” comes in to interrogate the employees (again, did anyone really buy that this guy was just a cop?), saying that it was most likely an inside job. Casey is notably absent, and Chuck is sent to call and find out where he is. Casey demands that Chuck come to some warehouse, where the door opens on all the Buy More merchandise. Also, that warehouse seems to have unnecessarily tall ceilings. Unless, oh wait—do they sell airplanes at the Buy More?
CHUCK Recap: “Chuck vs. The Undercover Lover”

CHUCK was back, and I didn’t realize just how much I missed it. Equally as excited was SB, our famed CHUCK recapper. Here’s her first of two recaps from last night’s CHUCK sandwich.
Episode: “Chuck vs. The Undercover Lover”
Original Airdate: 1.24.08
GMMR Recapper: SB
Yay! You guys, I have missed recapping (and Chuck) so much, that a double-header is exactly what I needed. And not only that, but we got a Casey-centric episode! WHAT?!?! The only thing that would have made it more perfect is if the stupid Apprentice hadn’t been stuck in the middle. Don’t worry, though, Billy played Guitar Hero for an hour so we didn’t have to watch that crap. Also, before we get going, I have to tell you that my friend and pop culture goddess, Amity, came over and was awesome to watch with because she catches things that I don’t, and who wins in that scenario? YOU do! She is now invited every week.
Okay, so … Casey. So much Casey hotness this week. What! I had heart palpitations for like an hour. That cannot be healthy. We open up on a flashback to some Casey back story, where he is speaking Russian and lying on a hotel bed, lamenting that he’d gotten involved with a photojournalist. The girl fake laments getting involved with an energy consultant, so that must be Casey’s go-to lie. She calls him Sugar Bear, and can I just say … Sugar Bear? SB? Coincidence? I think not. She goes to kiss him and it is SUPER hot. But then, you knew I’d think so. Meanwhile, all I can think about is how this is the slutty girl from Just Like Heaven, starring Reese Witherspoon and Mark Ruffalo. Am said she was also a slutty girl in something else, but I forgot which movie because it probably wasn’t that awesome. But she also, especially with the dark hair, looks like Julia Roberts’ hooker friend in Pretty Woman. Although obviously she’s much younger than Laura San Giacamo, and yes, I did know that was her name without looking it up.
LOST Goes Pop Up Video…Kind Of

As if I wasn’t already ridiculously excited for the Season 4 premiere of LOST on January 31st, ABC just announced that it will be airing an “enhanced” airing of the mind blowing season 3 finale on January 30th.
So what will this enhanced repeat look like? Well this VH1’s pop up video. While the episode is airing, viewers will be treated with fun facts related to the filming and back story about the show.
According to the ABC press release I just received,’ the enhanced version of “Lost” will include text on the lower third of the screen and will “let viewers in” on clues in the show, as well as give back story to catch new viewers up for Season Four’. Sounds good to me.
If you’re a LOST newbie or just need a refresher course, check out the recap show airing at 8pm on the 31st, just preceding the 2-hour Season 4 premiere, “The Beginning of the End”
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Returns to its Glory

(The following contain minor spoilers for tonight’s episode so stop reading if you don’t want to know)
Tonight is the first of the final three remaining new episodes of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS. If you were one of those people who felt FNL had lost its way at times during the season, be prepared to be reminded of the glory of yesteryear (or at least last season), because I’ve seen these next two episodes and they are some of the best we’ve ever seen (especially next week’s episode which left me in uncontrollably sobbing).
You know how I roll – I don’t like spilling the beans too much and ruining the fun for everyone else, but that doesn’t mean I won’t tease you a bit to get you excited for tonight’s episode, titled “Humble Pie” airing at 9/8c on NBC.
It seems that many of our friends in Dillon, TX have made some decisions that have led to rather surprising consequences – some good, some bad, and some that are just unexpected.
For Brian “Smash” Williams, his decision to let the temper get the best of him at the movie theater has consequences more far reaching than I’m sure he ever imagined – the least of which is being led out of his house in handcuffs while a confused and pleading Momma Smash looks on. Smash struggles with his pride versus making this matter go away, but when his emotions once again take over he finds himself facing consequences that unfortunately might have a lasting effect.
THE DAILY SHOW & THE COLBERT REPORT – Mock Debate in D.C.
January 24, 2008 by Kath Skerry

Doing what they do best – using humor to help others understand the absurdity in our everday lives – the writers of THE COLBERT REPORT and THE DAILY SHOW took the plight the of the WGA to Congress in a mock debate. THE DAILY SHOW writers Rob Kutner, Tim Carvell and Jason Ross took on the side of the WGA while Michael Brumm, Peter Grosz and Tom Purcell of THE COLBERT REPORT argued the “points” of the AMPTP.
Brilliant…just brilliant!!
Crashing out of the starting gates, the shirts argued it would cost the suits less than 1% of their total revenue to give the writers everything they wanted. For Paramount Pictures, that comes to $4.6 million, or “half the amount it takes to get Reese Witherspoon into a movie.”
“I ask you,” one writer noted, “which is more important to a movie — a script, or half of Reese Witherspoon?”
The studio suits thought for a second.
“Which half?”

What to Watch…Thursday, January 24, 2008

As of late I’ve found that Thursdays depress me. Thursdays serve as a weekly reminder of better times, times before the WGA strike when some of my favorite shows were nestled up against one another like a cozy drama.comedy blanket. But I’m feeling pretty good about this particular Thursday because we’ve actually got some good shows to look forward to.
Happy Birthday Mark!
I also want to take a moment to say Happy Birthday to my friend, Mark. Mark’s been a nice addition to our crazy little circle of friends this past year, and despite the fact that he’s Canadian, we like having him around. I’d also like to thank MySpace and Facebook for without you I would have no clue when my friend’s birthdays are.
On to tonight’s TV…

“A Thousand Words by Friday”
Betty’s assignment to interview a writer is spoiled by a case of mistaken identity; Daniel is surprised to learn he’s closer to his new love interest (Gabrielle Union) than he imagined; Marc helps Amanda in her quest to meet her biological father.

John Krasinski and Sam Mendes Reunite?

EW is reporting that John Krasinski and SNL star Maya Rudolph are rumored to be the leads in a new comedy directed by “American Beauty” director, Sam Mendes and written by Dave Eggers and his wife Vendela Vida. “The untitled film [from Focus Films] follows a couple, pregnant with their first child, as they travel America looking for the ideal place to settle down.”
This won’t be the first time Krasinski and Mendes have worked together. Mendes directed “Jarhead” in which John has a small cameo.

Live Blogging AMERICAN IDOL – South Cackalacky

I’m home and watching, so I might as well LIVE blog tonight’s AMERICAN IDOL. I’m just a few minutes behind you all, but I’ll be caught up soon enough. I can’t say that my commentary is going to be all that exciting, but feel free to watch along with me and comment as we go.
Tonight Ryan, Paula, Randy and Simon are in South Carolina. The dirrty South usually has a lot to offer (good and bad) so fingers crossed. On to the auditions. (The most recent comments will be at the top)
- OMG, that’s it? It’s over? Damn, another boring IDOL audition show. Is it Hollywood week yet?
- Oliver was ready to audition but his wife went into labor. Way to rip off Phil Stacey. This guy is adorable, and as of this moment I haven’t heard him sing but I want him to do well. He’s such a cutie. He named his daughter Emma Grace – love the name Emma (hey Em love Auntie). I really loved him, but the judges weren’t on board. Awwww. I’ve heard worse auditions make it. I don’t always get it.
- What’s wrong with me? I’m finding Seacrest all kinds of hot tonight. “The Moment of Truth” kind of makes me sick. I had to sit with the producer last week and interview him when all I wanted to do was spit on him for leaving this country worse off than he found it.
- If you think you are good enough to pull off “I Am Telling You” from Dreamgirls for your audition then I can pretty much guarantee that you suck. Why do people here have such attitude. What planet do these people live on?

Here’s a sneak peek at some scenes from tomorrow night’s episode.

But let’s be grateful that we have Chuck Bartowski back at all and enjoy him while we still can.
