Here are Your Top 24 AMERICAN IDOL Contestants
February 13, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Before we get to the 12 guys and the 12 girls that made it into this season’s Top 24 contestants, I just have something to say to the producers of AMERICAN IDOL:
STOP IT!! Stop with the ridiculous promotion of some contestants over others. It’s patronizing for those of us watching at home. And you know what? Iit’s backfiring. The minute Carly Smithson came on the screen tonight you know what I did? I TiVo’d right through her whole bit. She hadn’t even made it to the Top 24 yet and I was already sick of her. Talent or not, the producers are doing a disservice to some of these contestants by forcing them down our throats.
I know I harped on this last night as well, but it’s really affecting my enjoyment of the show. Again, with Carly, Michael Johns, David Archuleta, and a few others…enough. What about Jason Castro, Luke Menard, or Alexandrea Lushington? These people were also talented enough to make it to your Top 24 but I don’t remember seeing them before none the less being privy to their talent.
Shame on you producers. Pull it together and realize that you’re not pulling a fast one on anyone. As I said before, it’s patronizing.
Whoa, now that I got that off my chest, let’s check out this season’s Top 24.
Ladies first….
- Carly Smithson
- Amanda Overmyer
- Kristy Lee Cook
- Brooke White
- Alexandrea Lushington
- Ramiele Malubay
- Syesha Mercado
- Kady Malloy
- Amy Davis
- Alaina Whitaker
- Asia’h Epperson
- Joanne Borgella
And now the guys…
- David Cook
- David Archuleta
- Danny Noriega
- Jason Castro
- Luke Menard
- Michael Johns
- Robbie Carrico
- Garrett Haley
- Chikeze Eze
- Jason Yeager
- David Hernandez
- Colton Berry
Overall a rather predictable bunch. Besides never having heard of some of these contestants before, there were only two kind of shocking moments for me tonight. The first was the dismissal of Josiah Leming. He wasn’t the best but I thought he was unique. My heart ached for Josiah because not making it for him meant a life back on the streets and living in his car. Here’s to hoping his exposure on the show leads him to good things.
And the other shocking moment was Simon’s rant about wanting to keep Kyle (the geeky President wannabe) in the competition. What? Simon? Of all people? He said he thought he was different. I thought he was mediocre. I wasn’t with you on this one Simon.
So there you go. The next time we hear from these contestants we will be voting for our favorite.
Any early predictions on who is going to go home next week?

I completely agree – I am so sick of Carly I’m all ready to see her go early on. (Which I’m sure she won’t.) I do like the Australian dude, even though they are pushing for him as well. I think Syesha is incredible. I wasn’t all that surprised by Josiah, and I think he would have grated on me in a short time. No matter what Simon said, I’m sure he only wanted to keep Kyle for the Sanjaya factor. I was surprised at his comments to David Hernandez – I thought his performance was awesome (unless he had a worse one after that we didn’t see…) I remember Chikeze Eze’s first audition, and I would have liked to see his Hollywood round. It is ridiculous how many contestants made it through that we have NEVER seen. Their families are probably home watching the shows scanning for any glimpse of them at all. Shameless promotion on the part of the producers.
ITA about Carly. I was rooting for her but it all changed with the airtime she was getting. I’m very upset about Josiah. As I wrote in your other post, he was the only artist I felt was original and honest. He may not have been the best technical singer, but I felt emotionally connected to his voice; this is more important to me when listening to music. Frankly, I could care less about the group they chose. Maybe I’ll root for Amanda Overmyer and Brooke White, but I’m not as invested in them.
kath…you’re SO right. honestly, a few of the people that made it…i didn’t recall seeing ANY of their auditions at all. agree that i am already annoyed with carly, she’s a fraud anyway. didn’t she have a record deal in ireland???
i think chekieze is my fave! ADORABLE!!! and someone PLEASE get rid of danny noriega!!!!!!!!! THE MOST annoying person ever!!! lose the fake attitude!
Deb!! Hey there chica. Yeah, I think Danny has a great voice but he’s got a little too much attitude. I don’t know if it’s the hair, the whiny voice, or the ‘I’m better than everyone’ ‘tude but he reminds me of Christian from Project Runway.
Hope to you soon Deb!!
It’s a real shame that Josiah didn’t make it into the top 24. I just discovered his Myspace page this afternoon, where he has 17 of his own recordings available for purchase, and so far every one that I’ve listened to has been an absolute gem. He sounds fantastic when he’s singing his own stuff! http://www.myspace.com/josiahleming
For now, I plan on rooting for Amanda Overmyer among the girls and David Archuleta among the guys (although I also am very fond of Chikeze Eze and Danny Noriega).
I totally agree about Danny=Christian. I keep waiting for him to say how ‘fierce’ something is.
I just got caught up on this week’s Idol on DVR. I too am way over Carly – it’d be okay perhaps if she were awesome but IMO, she’s not. My DVR cut out at the very end and so am very glad Amanda made it in. I cried real tears over Josiah and was very distraught so very happy to see he’s maybe making some head way on his own recordings.
For once, I’d love to see fewer tall beautiful mostly blonde girls (was ecstatic that the beauty queen didn’t make it through, though). Give us something different why don’t you? You’ll find me rooting for whomever is different … or is it whoever 🙂
Correction to my prior post, not Amanda but Joanna.. too soon to know them by name yet.
Looking for new info and i ended up here, reading your blog grats lotsa work into it
