BIG BROTHER 9 Recap: Getting to Know You

Last night was just the second episode of BIG BROTHER 9 and I’m already addicted. A lot went down during last night’s show – a couple got power and ousted another, and our first HOH’s were named. Oh and I still hate Sheila.
The very first BB9 competition forced the couples to get to know one another. All the guys were secured to a harness and were lowered over their female cohorts below who had to grab on to their partner as they were raised and suspended in the air over comfy beds waiting below. Face to face, and her legs wrapped around his waist, I think it was a great way to break the ice. I think they should try this game at camps and retreats, I mean it sure as hell beats ‘Hi my name is Kath and I like kiwis.’

BIG BROTHER 9: Til Death Do You Part…Let the Debauchery Begin (UPDATE)

“Expect the Unexpected” – you ain’t kidding.
Shame on me for falling a full day behind on my BIG BROTHER watching. Having missed watching the premiere live, I wasn’t able to catch it until last night. And what a thing of trashy, soul less beauty it was. I think my excitement about this show is a little unnatural. Between BIG BROTHER 9 and PARADISE HOTEL 2, maybe I should consider turning in my TV blogger’s membership card and give this site to someone more deserving.
The premiere episode of BIG BROTHER 9 is always fun because it’s the chance for the audience at home to get first impressions of the house guests and find out who we are really going to hate this season. Between the cheesy montages of everyone getting their key to the house to their obnoxious self introductions, I hate/love every minute of it. This year’s award for best/worst into goes to Natalie who delivered this doozy: “I’m Natalie. I love bikinis, coffee, and God.” – I think that was an original quote by Mary Magdalen but I’m not exactly sure.

Here are Your Top 24 AMERICAN IDOL Contestants

Before we get to the 12 guys and the 12 girls that made it into this season’s Top 24 contestants, I just have something to say to the producers of AMERICAN IDOL:
STOP IT!! Stop with the ridiculous promotion of some contestants over others. It’s patronizing for those of us watching at home. And you know what? Iit’s backfiring. The minute Carly Smithson came on the screen tonight you know what I did? I TiVo’d right through her whole bit. She hadn’t even made it to the Top 24 yet and I was already sick of her. Talent or not, the producers are doing a disservice to some of these contestants by forcing them down our throats.
I know I harped on this last night as well, but it’s really affecting my enjoyment of the show. Again, with Carly, Michael Johns, David Archuleta, and a few others…enough. What about Jason Castro, Luke Menard, or Alexandrea Lushington? These people were also talented enough to make it to your Top 24 but I don’t remember seeing them before none the less being privy to their talent.
Shame on you producers. Pull it together and realize that you’re not pulling a fast one on anyone. As I said before, it’s patronizing.
Whoa, now that I got that off my chest, let’s check out this season’s Top 24.
SNL Brings the LIVE Back to Saturday Night

Early November is the last time we saw a new episodes of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE. But with the writers strike over, the cast and writers are heading back to work. The first new post-strike episode will be on February 23rd and the guest host will be none other than 30 ROCK star, Tina Fey. As you probably know, Tina was a head writer and cast member on SNL for many years. It’s going to be great to see her hold her own with hosting duties.
According to the NY Times, JUNO star Ellen Page will be the guest host for SNL’s show on March 1st.
No word yet on who the musical guests will be.
Which celebrities, who haven’t yet hosted, would you like to see take over the reigns on SNL this season?
I’m going to give my vote to Michael Cera. From what I read he did a fantastic job as host for the live SNL show to support the strike, but he’s never hosted on air. Obviously John Krasinski is my second choice, and I thought for sure he would be a shoo in to host in April close to the premiere of LEATHERHEADS, but now with the new OFFICE post-strike schedule, I’m not sure he can take a week off to prep. Fingers crossed. And if there is a God, we will finally…finally see Will Arnett hosting this season. Can’t Amy Poehler pull some strings for her husband?

Sneak Peek: DEXTER on CBS

Have you been wondering CBS was going to take DEXTER, one of Showtime’s grittiest shows, and make it ready for network TV? Here’s your chance to find out. Our friends over at CBS just shared with us these clips so you can see just how the ‘edited’ DEXTER will look and feel. I’ve only seen a few episodes of DEXTER (I’m just now getting Showtime), but I can tell you that although edited, the incredible acting and the thrill that comes along with the show are very much in tact (even if body parts aren’t).
CBS will start airing these new, edited episodes of DEXTER from the beginning starting this Sunday at 10 ET/PT. If you’re like me and haven’t had the chance to watch it, or maybe you thought it was just a tad bit too gratuitous for your liking, then give this version a shot. It’s not the original, but it’s certainly worth checking out.
And if you want to freak out your friends, check out this kick ass viral promotion…courtesy of DEXTER.

The latest BIG BROTHER 9 spoilers from inside the house including HOH and POV winners, food comp updates and all the latest drama…because you know there is always drama!
To find out what’s going on in the BB house, check out GMMR’s spoiler updates from the 24/7 live feed: BIG BROTHER Spoilers – Feed Alert Keep checking back at new updates are added all the time.
(Update #1)
The feeds opened up and drama was rearing its ugly head. Seems that Jacob and Sharon (the ex’s) had already been evicted from the BB9 house, and Jen and Ryan’s relationship status was outted. Parker was upset with both Jen and Ryan and Allison seemed to drink herself silly to cope with now having a target on her back. Alliances have already been formed and reformed and everything seems to be up in the air because of the Jen and Ryan drama. The new Powercouple was Amanda and Alex, who seem to get along the best out of all the couples, taking a bubble bath in HOH bathroom together, dancing and lip-singing to the HOH music and Amanda confiding that she is playing the dumb girl part. Amanda and Alex are expected to nominate Parker and Jen and Allison and Ryan.
AMERICAN IDOL…Hollywood Week (or Night)
February 13, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Filed under American Idol, American Idol Recap
The long awaited Hollywood Week came and went in about 2 hours during last night’s AMERICAN IDOL. Over 160 of the best singers that the judges heard during the painful audition process got the opportunity to show that they are the next American Idol. And after seven seasons, the producers decided to change it up a bit, and change it for the better.
A few changes this time around…
Can I get an ‘amen’ that we didn’t have to go through the ridiculous group auditions this year? For the past six seasons it’s been the same thing. Contestants get paired into groups. Someone is late, someone doesn’t want to work, someone forgets the words, someone becomes too bossy and it affects the group dynamic as a whole. Snooze. This year, no groups, just the contestants proving themselves on their own. But unlike in the past, contestants were able to play instruments if they so chose during the first round of auditions. For some it worked, but for others it became less about their voice and more about the accompaniment. There was even a guy that chose to play drums along with his audition. Has he never seen Idol? Does he not know Simon? He could’ve been that one armed dude from Def Leppard and Simon still would have hated it.
You will like these contestants…you will like these contestants….
I’m not stupid. I’ve watched this show every season since the beginning and I know that the producers have their favorites. But last night, for some reason, I became really irritated about how blatant their agenda was. There were some contestants that got a lot of air time during the audition process who continued to snag the spotlight again last night. We get it – you want us to really like the Irish girl, the dude from Australia, the homeless kid. Did you have to beat us over the head with it?
As much as I personally enjoyed all their voices, I feel like I’m almost rooting against them right now because the producers have already given them an unfair edge over some of the Top 24 competition. And just to be clear, there are contestants in the Top 24 that got little if any screen time at all. And in case you didn’t know, screen time is gold in this competition. It’s the hook that connects the voting audience with the performer. What, you didn’t think it was all about the singing did you? Are you not familiar with the name Sanjaya Malakar?
BREAKING NEWS: WGA Strike is Over!!!
February 12, 2008 by Kath Skerry
A word from the WGA Presidents….
On Tuesday, members of the Writers Guilds East and West voted by a 92.5% margin to lift the restraining order that was invoked on November 5th. The strike is over.
Writing can resume immediately. If you were employed when the strike began, you should plan to report to work on Wednesday. If you’re not employed at an office or other work site, call or e-mail your employer that you are resuming work. If you have been told not to report to work or resume your services, we recommend that you still notify your employer in writing of your availability to do so. Questions concerning return-to-work issues should be directed to the WGAW legal department at 323.782.4521 or the WGAE’s assistant executive director Ann Toback at 212-767-7823.
The decision to begin this strike was not taken lightly and was only made after no other reasonable alternative was possible. We are profoundly aware of the economic loss these fourteen weeks have created not only for our members but so many other colleagues who work in the television and motion picture industries. Nonetheless, with the establishment of the WGA jurisdiction over new media and residual formulas based on distributor’s gross revenue (among other gains) we are confident that the results are a significant achievement not only for ourselves but the entire creative community, now and in the future.
We hope to build upon the extraordinary energy, ingenuity, and solidarity that were generated by your hard work during the strike.
Over the next weeks and months, we will be in touch with you to discuss and develop ways we can use our unprecedented unity to make our two guilds stronger and more effective than ever.
Now that the strike has ended, there remains the vote to ratify the new contract. Ballots and information on the new deal, both pro and con, will be mailed to you shortly. You will be able to return those ballots via mail or at a membership meeting to be held Monday, February 25th, 2008, at times and locations to be determined.
Thank you for making it possible. As ever, we are all in this together.
Best,
Patric M. Verrone
President, WGAW
Michael Winship
President, WGAE
CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
PRISON BREAK: “Hell or High Water”
February 12, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Filed under Prison Break, Prison Break Recap
So Michael and his band of merry men finally escaped from prison, therefore justifying the name of the show. Anyone else have a case of de ja vu? I was impressed that Mr. Scofield managed to find a way not to break out the bad boys this time around. I know letting T-Bag escape from Fox River last year never did anything for Michael’s conscience. And I’m sure he would have had more than a few sleepless nights had he put T-Bag and Lechero back on the streets. Bellick is just an asshat, so I don’t think Michael cared either way.
I think last night’s episode was probably my favorite of the whole season if for no other reason than more than a few times I found myself yelling at the TV (in a good way…if there is a good way to talk to an inanimate object). But much like Season 1, I felt anxious for the guys to make it out, and when they finally did I may have let a golf clap slip.
I know better than to look for reality in PRISON BREAK, but are we really supposed to buy it that with the cops chasing them closely in the jungle that the guys had enough time to find the cooler in the sand, take off their shoes, have a chit chat, and rebury the cooler before the cops got there. Come on now.
Unfortunately, the Fox promos ruined any cliffhanger about whether or not the guys ever caught up with Whistler. My guess is that Whistler took off because he thought it was in the best interest of LJ and Sophia. Maybe he went to go find the book. Who knows. But was he planning to escape from the group the whole time? I’m assuming yes since he certainly was faking his ankle issue. Hmm. And I don’t know about you, but I think Linc should spare Mahone. Yeah, he was the guy that hunted him down and played a role in this original mess to begin with, but I think at the heart of it all Mahone’s a good guy. If he were able to get back to his wife and kid, I don’t think he’d even consider jaywalking.
Oh and I really hope that things go well for the basketball kid and his Papa at the road block. He seems like a nice kid…just let him live. Make him get a hair cut, but let him live.
Not sure what’s going to happen in next week’s season finale. I haven’t received an advanced screener yet and I’d be surprised if Fox sends them out. I’m worried that Michael lost himself when Sarah lost her head. Where’s that cute kid with all the tattoos and the heart of gold? I think it’s about time we see Michael Scofield smiling again.
So until next week, I’m going to hope the best for the boys and I’ll be saying my nightly prayers that Sucre makes it out of this mess soon. Damn you T-Bag, you just can’t ever let the boys be.
What to Watch…Tuesday, February 12, 2008

Despite it being the start of Hollywood week on IDOL, I think tonight is a big night for CBS. I’m beyond excited for the premiere of BIG BROTHER 9!! 9pm can’t get here fast enough. I hope some of you are geeking out over Big Brother as much as I am. Just hours until I can see the ChenBot…sweet!!
I guess the other big news on TV tonight would be the return of JERICHO. I’m sure everyone at CBS has their fingers crossed that the show pulls in better than last season ratings. With all the hoopla surround the ‘nuts’ campaign and the fans saving the show (which was a nice gesture, but exploited into something much bigger than it was by CBS), tonight’s premiere better have those eyeballs or CBS will have egg on their face (or will it be peanut butter). I wasn’t a fan of last season so I won’t be watching tonight, but if you’re a fan of JERICHO…congrats on getting your show back.
There’s a lot to choose from tonight, so I ask…what will YOU be watching?
American Idol | 8pm on Fox
In the words of Meshach Taylor’s Hollywood Montrose*, let me just say “Hollywood! Hollywood!!” Yes, we are FINALLY at Hollywood week. Praise Simon Cowell, I never thought we’d get here. I’m still expecting to hear some dreadful auditions based on the non-talent they sent through, but for the most part we can expect some good singing. I’m so excited! This is when American Idol really starts for me.
*Mad respect if you know who and what I’m talking about. No points to my sister for guessing.
Big Brother 9 | 9pm on CBS
The ninth season begins with 16 houseguests entering the compound and being paired up with their so-called “soul mate.” The eight pairs will play the game together, share Head of Household duties and be evicted as a couple. (Note: I’m going to try my best to remain spoiler free, so no24/7 live feeds for me this year. But GMMR reader kilwiggle will be contributing a recap of spoilers from inside the house, so stay tuned)
One Tree Hill | 9pm on The CW
“In da Club”
The gang hangs out at Tric for the night, where Mouth discovers that Brooke has set him up on a blind date with Millicent. Meanwhile, a nervous Mia learns that she’s about to make her solo live debut; and Lindsey tries to avoid Peyton.
According to Jim | 9pm on ABC
“Period Piece”
Determined to learn why Gracie and Ruby are always bickering, Jim reads their diaries—and learns that one of his daughters is coming of age, and the other is extremely jealous that she didn’t get there first. Lynn: Matthew Craig. (Note: Upon a positive ratification of the WGA strike, you will no longer see ‘According to Jim’ as a featured show on GMMR’s What to Watch list…I promise)
Carpoolers | 9:30pm on ABC
“Wheels of Fortune”
Laird talks Gracen into pretending he can’t walk so they can use a handicapped parking space. After a lot attendant uncovers the ruse, the guys fall victim to a string of bad luck.
Jericho | 10pm on CBS
“Reconstruction”
As the second season begins, a new government steps in and restores order, but tensions between Jericho and New Bern continue unabated and Jake will not rest until he kills Constantino. Meanwhile, Hawkins fears his nemesis is still hunting him.
Boston Legal | 1opm on ABC
“Glow in the Dark”
After enlisting Alan and Denny to help her friend, who’s suing her town for its decision to build a nuclear power plant, Shirley discovers that the opposing counsel is her college sweetheart (Scott Bakula), a fact that is not lost on Carl Sack.
