LOST Season 4 Questions and Theories: “Confirmed Dead”
February 8, 2008 by Kath Skerry
(Please keep questions, comments and theories based on personal speculation. This post is NOT to discuss spoilers you have heard.) Last week you all stepped up and shared your thoughts on some of the questions that were raised during the season premiere of LOST. With that, I think it’s only fitting that we dive right into it and look at some of the questions that came up during “Confirmed Dead”. I’ll start off with a few but feel free to add to the discussion.
Help me figure out what the hell is going on here people. These are some of the questions I had last night (in a completely random order)
- Why did Daniel Faraday have such an emotional reaction to the news of the found wreckage?
- The news showed the entire plane under the water. We know that most of the plane ended up on the island, so what exactly was being shows on the news?
- The body being shown wasn’t Seth Norris, he was killed on the island by the monster, so who was that?
- When was the wreckage found? (a calendar in Frank’s office says ‘2004’)
- Why are they looking for Ben?
- Who is the man that Ben has on the boat and why?
- How does Miles have a picture of Ben at an airport (did he leave the island?)

LOST: Confirmed Dead (But I Don’t Buy It)
February 8, 2008 by Kath Skerry
So we are now two episodes in on LOST, are you still digging it? Last night’s ep was a little ‘hello my name is’ game with the rescuers or whoever the hell those people were who landed on the island. More questions were raised than answers given (not a shocker), but I didn’t really mind. We aren’t talking Nikki and Paolo here, these cats have some depth to them and hold some pretty important clues, if not all the answers to just what the heck is happening on that damn island.
The opening minutes of the show follow the path of the ROV of Christiane I, who upon exploration find the wreckage of Oceanic Flight 815 on the outskirts of the Sundra Trench, located West of Indonesia. Footage shows the full plane relatively intact – yup, the whole plane including the cockpit, the middle and the tail section. All together now…Hmmm.
The discovery of the wreckage seems to be big news around the world, and we are there when four of Naomi’s fellow “rescuers” hear the news.
Daniel Faraday from Essex, Massachusetts claims to be a physicist, and he’s not in charge of the packing. Upon hearing about the discovery of the wreckage from Oceanic 815 he had started to sob, but he doesn’t know why. While on the island he appears to be intrigued by the sun and why the sunlight doesn’t scatter on the island as it normally does. He’s kind of an odd bird but seems harmless enough (I fully expect that statement to come back and bite me in the ass someday).
Miles – just Miles (but probably Miles Straume) appears to be some kind of paranormal expert. Miles listen to a radio report about the found wreckage and learns that the pictures revealed that all 324 passengers have been confirmed dead. Miles doesn’t have much time to listen as he needs to meet with Mrs. Gardner, a woman whose grandson was murdered and is haunting her home. See Miles can communicate with the dead. Sometimes, like in the case of Mrs. Gardner, he does it for profit, while others times he just does it just to find out who killed Naomi. He’s kind of a bad ass and certainly wears the pants in La Familia de Rescuers.
When Will My Shows Be Back After the Strike?
February 8, 2008 by Kath Skerry
During this weekend’s WGA meeting, the WGA board members will be talking to the guild members about the tentative deal they have worked out with the AMPTP to end 3+ long writers’ strike. Hopefully the deal will be a fair one and the writers will be back to work soon. But the end of the strike doesn’t mean the return of all our favorite shows. Some will return with new episodes this season, but many (including most of the newbies) won’t return until next September.
TV Guide’s Michael Ausiello put together a rather comprehensive list about the fate of some of the more popular shows on network TV. Of course all this information is for the most part speculation and some might change. But it’s a pretty good (informed) guess as to what’s going on with our favorite shows.
So if you’ve been asking ‘when will my shows be back after the strike’ then read on.

Josh Jackson Cast in ‘FRINGE’ from J.J. Abrams

Can I get a ‘hells yeah’?! EW is reporting that J.J. Abrams has just cast Josh Jackson as one of the leads is his new Sci-Fi series for Fox called FRINGE. In FRINGE, Josh plays a member of a unit investigating sci-fi mysteries. The 2-hour pilot is set to start shooting later this month. This is some pretty fantastic news for Josh who hasn’t had any huge break out hits since his role as Pacey Witter on DAWSON’S CREEK. Putting aside that Josh is up near the very top of my TV boyfriend list (and has been for almost a decade…wow), I do believe that he’s an insanely talented actor who just hasn’t been paired with the right part yet.
No word yet on whether or not his work on FRINGE will conflict with Josh Jackson’s planned guest stint on GREY’S ANATOMY.
Special thanks to Janet for the tip.
BIG BROTHER 9: ‘Til Death Do You Part
February 7, 2008 by Kath Skerry
BIG BROTHER is back next week with it’s very first winter edition and there’s a whole lot of new twists for the houseguests. For the first time ever, all 16 BIG BROTHER 9 contestants entering the house will be single! The possibilities are endless. And to make things just a bit more interesting, each of our house guests will be matched with their “soulmate” upon entering the house.
According to CBS, “whether there is a love connection or not, once paired up, the Houseguests’ life in the game depends on their partner. They must strategize, plot and scheme together as a couple for a chance at the prize. These “lovebirds” will live together as a couple meaning they will sleep in the same bed, hold Head of Household as a couple, be nominated for eviction as a pair, and if the time comes, say their goodbyes together upon eviction.”
Can I get a hot damn!!
Debut: Tuesday, Feb. 12th @ 9ET/PT
Schedule: Tuesdays @ 9 ET/PT | Wednesdays @ 8 ET/PT | Sundays @ 8 ET/PT
Check out the first pics of the BIG BROTHER 9 houseguests as well as a few shots from inside the all new Big Brother house.
If you are a long time GMMR reader then you know I have a weakness for Big Brother. I’ve decided that I’m not going to be subscribing to the 24/7 live feeds (because my obsession got a little out of control last season). But if YOU are subscribing and want to be GiveMeMyRemote.com’s special BIG BROTHER 9 spoiler correspondent, please email me and let me know.
Will Arnett No Longer the Voice of KITT
February 7, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Well there goes my one and only reason to watch the new KNIGHT RIDER backdoor pilot. According to Variety, Will Arnett has been replaced by Val Kilmer as the voice of KITT. The reason? No, NBC didn’t have an issue with Arnett’s sexy and sultry voice – Arnett has had a long standing relationship with General Motors and had done extensive voice over work for the GMC lineup of trucks. GM took issue with Arnett now being the voice of KITT, a Ford Mustang, on a show that was heavily sponsored by Ford.
“I was very excited at the prospect of playing the part of KITT in the new ‘Knight Rider’ movie,” Arnett said. “However, because of a long relationship with General Motors as the voice of GMC Trucks, I had to respectfully withdraw from the project.”
Bummer.
The mini-movie is set to air in just a few weeks, and Arnett has completed his voice over work. NBC and producers are now scrambling to get Vil Kilmer’s voice set for the voice of the most talking famous car.
What to Watch…Thursday, February 7, 2008

It might not be ‘comedy night done right’, but tonight’s lineup is definitely ‘must see TV’. Too bad for NBC that ABC is the place to be.
Even thought I’ve already seen it, I’m really excited for LOST tonight. It’s so good and I can’t wait to talk to you all about it. Tonight we learn all about the ‘rescuers’ from Naomi’s boat. And by all I mean very little. But it’s still one hell of an episode.
And although I failed to mention it last week, definitely give ELI STONE a shot. It’s quirky, charming and the cast is fabulous (and includes Spy Daddy – Victor Garber, AND Doc Abbott – Tom Amades…reason alone enough to watch. It’s a little Ally McBeal but the lead Johnny Lee Miller is a lot less annoying than Calista back in the day. Plus there’s George Michael, and who doesn’t love George Michael.
NBC is premiering LIPSTICK JUNGLE tonight. Sorry, but It completely failed to get my attention. I’m not watching, but if you do I’d love for you to let me know what you thought about it.
Oh and it looks like I originally overlooked the premiere of SURVIVOR tonight. Since it’s not up against anything I’m watching, I think I’ll give it a shot tonight.
Survivor: Micronesia – Fans vs. Favorites | 8pm on CBS
Ten ultra-fans of the show compete against 10 former castaways amid the Rock Islands of Palau, Micronesia. The fans and favorites are divided into two separate tribes. Upon arriving, the fans have no idea they will be playing against former contestants. Jeff Probst is the host and as always, Johnny Fairplay is the asshat.
Smallville | 8pm on The CW
“Siren”
Chloe runs afoul of the Black Canary (Alaina Huffman) when she procures one of Lex’s project files for Oliver. Lex suspects the Green Arrow and retaliates, while Lois discovers Oliver’s secret.
Lost | 9pm on ABC
“Confirmed Dead”
The survivors begin to question the intentions of their supposed rescuers when four strangers arrive on the island. Ken Leung. Daniel Faraday: Jeremy Davies. Charlotte: Rebecca Mader. Frank Lapidus: Jeff Fahey. (Note: If you missed last week’s season premiere, ABC is replaying it tonight at 8pm)
Eli Stone | 10pm on ABC
“Freedom”
After two weeks without visions, Eli is reluctant to take the case of a Mexican couple, who are suing a produce conglomerate for their use of pesticides. But he changes his mind after another round of hallucinations.
Lipstick Jungle | 10pm on NBC
Debut: Three powerful New York women navigate the business world, friendship and romance in this series based on “Sex and the City” scribe Candace Bushnell’s book of the same name. First up: Film exec Wendy (Brooke Shields) tries to land a big deal.
Now the all important question. What will YOU be watching?

What TV Quotes Hit Your Funny Bone?
February 6, 2008 by Kath Skerry

It’s rainy and dreary here in Boston and I thought perhaps you all could help brighten my day by sharing your all time favorite comedy quotes.
What lines or moments still make you laugh out loud even after time has passed? Perhaps it was a funny barb from SEINFELD, or maybe some witty banter between the characters on FRIENDS. If you’re like me anything uttered on ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT would make the cut, but then again I do love me from GOLDEN GIRLS. And of course there’s plenty of comedy to choose from on air today like the always classic and quotable THE FAMILY GUY, or THE OFFICE, 30 ROCK, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and more.
If you need a little inspiration or want to be inspired, check out ye ole Google where I’m sure you can find some sites with great quoest.
I’ll start us off with just a few…
“Arrested Development”
Lucille: I’ll be in the hospital bar.
Michael: Uh, you know there isn’t a hospital bar, Mother.
Lucille: Well, this is why people hate hospitals.
“How I Met Your Mother”
Barney: “LEGEN – wait for it, and I hope you’re not lactose-intolerant because the second half of this word is – DARY!”
“The Office”
Andy: Oompa loompa, doompadee dawesome, Dwight is now gone, which is totally awesome. Why was he gone, he was such a nice guy. No, he was not, he was a total douche. Doompadee doom.
So I turn it over to you, what are your favorite comedy quotes of all time (feel free to share as many as you like).
TV’s Top Writers Switch Shows

Would would happen if the writers of THE OFFICE infiltrated the town of Dillon, Texas? What about if Bart Simpson took over as Regional Manager of Dunder Mifflin-Scranton (well we might not notice a difference). Will the pretty people on Gossip Girl’s Upper East Side stay pretty if they were taken over by UGLY BETTY? And would a world where THE DAILY SHOW writers wrote all of our TV really be all the great (probably).
New York Magazine had writers from some of today’s top shows switch it up and write the final episodes of the seasons for other hot shows on TV today. Hey, at least we’re getting season finales despite the WGA strike.
THE OFFICE from the writers of The Simpsons

EPISODE 9: “Flu Season”
Phyllis shows up on the day of the Mardi Gras party with a runny nose. GOSSIP GIRL from the writers of Ugly Betty

EPISODE 15: “Saved?”
Blair’s legging-clad lemmings all officially defect to Jenny’s clique, and Blair’s popularity—like her virginity—can’t be resurrected. When her ex won’t forgive her, B. has to find a new guy, someone even more popular than Nate … Jesus. Looks like the only way for Blair to wipe her slate clean is to be born again—literally. Blair’s newfound religion crucifies her sense of style as she trades Imitation of Christ for the real thing. (continue reading)

Tonight isn’t going to be a big night for TV…unless you’re Fox. While most of the other networks will be airing ongoing coverage of the Super Tuesday results, Fox will be giving us new eps of AMERICAN IDOL and HOUSE. And the CW is airing a new ep of ONE TREE HILL. It’s not often that I say this, but Thank God for Fox and The CW.
What will YOU be watching tonight?
American Idol | 8pm on Fox
I don’t know if I can do it. Can I sit through yet another round of auditions? This time the crew will be in Hotlanta where you can expect a lot of talent and a lot of personality from the dirrty south. The promos Fox has been airing all week promoting Hollywood Week are a cruel tease.
House | 9pm on Fox
“Don’t Ever Change”
A former music producer who had recently—and suddenly—converted to Hasidic Judaism collapses at her wedding, and House suspects that the reasons behind her sudden conversion might also have something to do with her mysterious illness.
One Tree Hill | 9pm on The CW
“Don’t Dream Its Over”
Victoria stirs up trouble at Peyton’s new label, and Lindsey finds out how Peyton really feels about her. Meanwhile, Jamie has questions about his Grandpa Dan, and Mouth has doubts about his relationship with his boss. (Note: So I didn’t make good on my promise to give OTH a shot this season, but I did check out the promo for tonight’s episode and it looks goood. The hand that rocks the cradle is the hand that rules the world.)

PARASIDE HOTEL 2 is the Guiltiest of All Guilty Pleasures
February 5, 2008 by Kath Skerry
I’m not sure if watching PARADISE HOTEL 2 even fits into the category of guilty pleasure. It’s got to have a category all on its own. I’m trying to remember if there has been a trashier reality show in the history of TV, and I can’t say that I can think of one. PARADISE HOTEL 2 It’s everything that is wrong with not only reality TV but our voyeuristic, indulgent culture. Perhaps that’s why I love it.
Just by watching this show I think I am single handily sabotaging the WGA strike efforts. Sorry.
For those of you who don’t remember PARADISE HOTEL from its original run a few years back on Fox, here’s the premise. Eleven sexy, slutty people who crave attention 24/7 move into a luxurious hotel in a secluded location in paradise (hence the title of the show) and do whatever they can to ensure a longer stay at Paradise Hotel. To stay in paradise, guests must find a roommate of the opposite sex and the individual left without a roommate will have to leave the hotel. Things take a dramatic turn when new guests check-in and have to quickly make and break alliances to stay in the competition. There are no rules in this game of strategy and manipulation where sex and seduction are among the tools players use in their battle to avoid eviction.
And yes, it’s as trashy, if not more, so than it sounds. I mean a game show where the point is to make alliances through sex. Genius!! And if that weren’t enough, although the show airs on MyNetworkTV (9pm ET/PT on Mondays), the Fox Reality Channel airs an MA-TV version at 1am ET/10pm PT late that night.
There’s no reason to watch this show other than for the off the charts unintentional comedy potential. Oh and of course there’s the other other game I like to play where I wonder what happened to these people during their formative years to make them so desperate and needy.
I’m not actually here to recommend PARADISE HOTEL 2 to anyone. I’m actually encouraging you not to watch it. Save the brain cells. But don’t hate me because I love it…some people have their vices.

The scheduled for this year’s William S. Paley Festival has just been announced and some of TV’s best new shows are being honored. For those of you not familiar with the Paley Festival, it’s an amazing experience during which fans can hear directly from the cast and crew of their favorites show during a moderated hosted panel and then interactive Q&A. I attended last year and it was fantastic.
I wish I could attend the full two weeks, but alas my wallet just doesn’t allow. I’m thinking of making the trek from Boston to L.A for Pushing Daisies, Chuck and Friday Night Lights…if I can swing it.
Here are the dates for each of the panels as well as the guests announced thus far. Please know that the guests lists can change at anytime (last year Wentworth Miller was scheduled to be there for Prison Break and he wasn’t…but then again Steve Carell was NOT listed as a guest for The Office panel and he was there…you never know). I’ll update this post when new guests are announced so check back soon. Update: Sarah Michelle Geller has confirmed she will be attending the BUFFY Reunion Panel.

Jordin Sparks Sings National Anthem at the Superbowl
February 4, 2008 by Kath Skerry

Last year’s AMERICAN IDOL winner, Jordin Sparks, had the honor to singing the national anthem at yesterday’s Superbowl. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I sure as hell didn’t expect THAT performance. I thought Jordin was absolutely incredible and she nailed it – not an easy song, and not an easy stage. Well done, Jordin.
