Project Buffy: A Buffy Newbie Takes on the Slayer

I always vowed that when it came time to shut down GiveMeMyRemote.com for good that the very first show I would watch from start to finish would be BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER.  As I stated in ‘Confessions of a Buffy Newbie‘, the WGA strike afforded me the opportunity to indulge in the show a little earlier than I expected.  And just as everyone promised, I have fallen for this show…big time.I leisurely strolled through the first 6 episodes of the first season.  Took about a month to finish all of season two.  And then powered through season 3 in about a week.  Then Ducky, the purveyor of the Buffy DVDs went ahead and took off on vacation leaving me in desperate need for season 4 and beyond.  I was devastated.

Well the Duckster is back, and earlier tonight I swung by his house to pick up seasons 4-7.  I’ve got just over 2 weeks to get through 4 seasons of BUFFY.  Can it be done?  Hell, yes.  Come March 20th when I’m sitting in the front row of the BUFFY THE VAMPIRE REUNION at Paley Fest I will be a full fledge BUFFY watcher.  I might not eat, sleep, or watch any other shows until then, but it will be well worth it in the end.

So join me on my journey to Sunnydale and beyond.  I’m anxious to get started and see just what the Hellmouth has in store for Ms. Summers and friends.

I’m ready for the slayage….are you with me? I’ll be posting updates here on GMMR informing you of my progress and let you know where I am in my undertaking.

Project Buffy Countdown: I’ve got approximately 18 days, 12 hours, and 27 minutes to finish Seasons 4-7. That’s 88 episodes people.  Five episodes a day….no problem.

I guess this is as good of time as any to be out of work, right?

P.S. I know you all love your BUFFY and I appreciate the support during PROJECT BUFFY but I beg of you…no spoilers!!!

GMMR is closing down?? or did you just decide to watch buffy since there was time over the strike?

  3. Patty on March 1st, 2008 11:13 pm

Yeah, I read that first sentance and had to re-read. Yikes! Dont’ scare me like that!

If I can get through S2 of Supernatural in 4 days, you can get through Buffy in just under three weeks. Hunker down with some caffine and enjoy some time off in Sunnyvale.

You can do it, I’ve done it, so I know it can be done. I was and am a huge Buffy and Angel fan and have been since it’s first episode. When its last season was over (and no I won’t be spoiling anything for you, it’s too good to spoil) I went and watched all 7 seasons from start to finish. It was so gratifying to watch the progession and how they all grew into and with their characters. You have the best seasons ahead, especially 5-7, just wait, it’s tormenting how good they get. Best of luck and know you have our support!

I support you 100%. I got into Buffy 6 years ago and I watched the entire 7 seasons in 1 month. I was hooked. You can totally do it! Oh and don’t forget to grab a box of Kleenex while your at it. You can do it! (lol you gotta say that with the accent)

I finished the whole series in a little over a month recently so you can definitely do it! I loved the show so much – what I wouldn’t give to go to Paley! Have fun!

I would love to hear your thoughts on Buffy S2 and S3 whenever you have the time – I couldn’t find a post on your site detailing what you thought. I’d love to hear a first-timer’s point of view on the Buffy/Angel/Angelus storyline and what they thought of Faith when she first came on.

This project sounds like something I might attempt at some point on the future. I watched parts of the first, second, and seventh seasons, and have always wanted to watch the whole thing all the way through. Good luck on your project, and have fun at Paley Fest.

Kath, I believe in you! You can do it. Im so jealous that your going to the paley fest. I would kill to go. Literally. Name the person and I will do it. Nah, just kidding. I’d still have to find a way to america first…. But seriously, seasons 4-7 in like 18 days….I wonder if that could get you in the guiness book of records….

#7 – Kim, You’re right, I never really did share my thoughts on S2 and S3. I’ll be sure to do that this week. There’s a part of me that wishes I had recorded my hour long conversation with Ducky the other night when we talked in depth about it. It could have been a little Project Buffy podcast.

Kathy, you know that after you’re done with Buffy you’re going to have to watch Firefly? If you love Buffy, you’ll love Firefly/Serenity. 🙂

I also just finished watching all 7 seasons in about a month and a half, so I know it can be done. Enjoy your marathon! I can’t wait to hear your updates.

I know how you feel. My friend is letting me borrow Buffy from her. I just finished season 2 (took me a week and a half) and I ‘m hooked. Don’t tell me anything. I refuse to know what happens before it happens! The ending made me cry.

Now all you need is to get into Doctor Who. *sigh*

GMMR – you’ve definitely got my support to make it through season 7! I’m sure it won’t be difficult since the show is so good. As a matter of fact, I missed most of season 7 myself so I probably need to get the DVDs too! And I’m glad to hear that you are going to the Buffy panel at Paley after all and can share your impressions of the reunion with all of us who can’t make it! Can’t wait to hear your thoughts on the series!

This is just like a little something I’m working on right now. Let’s just call it Project X Files. I’m watching every single episode, plus the first movie before the second movie comes out. I’m loving every minute of it.

  16. jo on March 2nd, 2008 10:00 pm

Yeah 6 and 7 have some seriously tearjerker episodes. I can’t wait til you watch Once More With Feeling. You should save a post just for that episode alone.

  17. Erin on March 2nd, 2008 11:32 pm

GOOD LUCK! I watched the show like religiously when the shows aired, kind of wish I could re-watch them all, but any who, have fun enjoying the greatness that is Buffy!

  18. sabrina on March 2nd, 2008 11:38 pm

#11- Jen, what about the series Angel! GMMR, you should watch that too.

  19. Courtney on March 3rd, 2008 12:34 am

Your next goal should be to watch Buffy alongside watching Angel in the same chronology. Then you get crossover episodes (something that would help in Season 4 actually!)

  20. Andrea on March 3rd, 2008 2:11 am

Yes, if you’ve reached the point in season 4 where Angel shows up, then you may need to start watching Angel or there will be a few moments where you will be confused. Or not. Either way, happy viewing! I know a lot of people think season 3 was the best, but for me it was season 4.

  21. Boof on March 3rd, 2008 9:55 pm

You are totally making me want to get back into the series again myself! I really haven’t seen an episode in awhile and even then, it isn’t the same catching an episode here or there. I’m totally jealous that you get to see these shows for the first time! I’ll be interested to read your thoughts on the more controversial Buffy story lines. (No spoilers!!)

And yes, you MUST watch Firefly/Serenity as well. I’m kicking myself that I ignored the show when it was on the air, even being the big Buffy/Angel fan I was. As a series, Angel is pretty good too, though my favorite seasons were the first and last.

Ok, off to dust off the Season One DVDs….
