My Apologies to ELI STONE
April 15, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Talk about too little too late. This week marks what I hope to be the season finale and not the series finale of ELI STONE. And I can’t help but feeling all kinds of guilty right about now.
Let’s not get too crazy here. I would never presume that my little TV blog would have any major influence on the overall viewership of a major network TV show, but all the same I feel bad for not championing this show from the beginning. If nothing else GMMR is supposed to be about the shows I love. And I love ELI STONE. I haven’t missed an episode. Yet I hardly talk about it or write about it at all here on GMMR. I haven’t done much of anything in the way of encouraging others to watch the show…and for that I’m sorry.
If the network Gods give the show another shot, I promise that I’ll do what I can to be more supportive. It’s a great show. One that has successfully built upon itself with every new episode. I’m completely enamored with the charming Jonny Lee Miller (Eli). Miller demands sympathy for Eli’s plight, one which has him struggling with his impending death yet simultaneous rebirth as a possible prophet – all while visions of 80’s rock stars and show tunes play out around him. With that plot to work with there is a serious risk of the writing being too overwrought, self important and silly, but it’s not. It’s actually quirky and introspectful without being flaky. Not an easy balance to achieve. The supporting cast is rich and deep and incredibly talented, and for such a large cast no one seems wasted.
I just got around to watching Sunday’s episode this morning, and I just had to take the opportunity to apologize for not talking about this show earlier, when it might have made a difference. Let’s hope it’s not too late for ELI STONE.

Even though you’re jumping on the bandwagon WAY TOO LATE! Welcome to the best new show of 2008.

I wouldn’t call it jumping on the bandwagon as I’ve seen every single episode from day one. Just hadn’t really taken the time to write about it until now.
Aww… are the ratings bad? I automatically figured they must be great since it had SO many episodes in a row. I love Eli Stone! It’s such a great show.. and I cheered when the earth quake actually happened (seems backwards) but I was happy that Eli’s visions got confirmed. Although, I’m sure if there’s time they’ll contribute it to Mr. Foot (and was that name a shout out to “The Nine”?! I think yes!).
I completely agree. I felt bad that I didn’t champion it more myself on my own blog (though I have few readers, so it’s probably not that big of a deal–I do talk it up a lot). They are advertising it as a season finale, but there’s probably still some room for cancellation. Don’t just feel guilty! Drop some emails to ABC if you really want it to stay. If they hear from fans and know people are watching, that can’t hurt!
GMMR – I don’t know what you’re talking about. The only reason I knew about Eli Stone was from reading about it here. You make sure to tell us every time it’s on, and you’ve said a couple of time that you like it. Thanks for turning me on to it. No on else really talks about it either but i don’t know why.
Kristi – Now that you say it that guys name was Mr. Foot on The Nine.
I’m crossing all of my fingers, all of my toes, and wrapping my entire body around itself in the hopes that Eli Stone will come back. I freaking LOOOOVE that show and have from day one and it would be a travesty if they pulled it. Much like some of my other favorite shows. *cough*
I love this show! I am enamored of the character of Eli and just about everyone on the show!
Thanks Kath. I have enjoyed this show more and more each week. The previews for Thursday’s finale made me cry. It won the timeslot on Sunday so I’m hoping ABC sees that as a positive sign. Now maybe people will see Johnny Lee Miller as more than Angelina Jolie’s ex-hubby!
I love the show also! I’m hoping that ABC rating’s were very high, so they will keep the show on it was a fresh show, showing concern for other’s coming from a lawyer, Eli Stone.
