30 ROCK – The Best of “Subway Hero”
April 18, 2008 by Kath Skerry
For all you 30 ROCK fans, it’s time to share YOUR favorite moments of last night’s episode. GMMR’s own Jo has picked her favorite lines of the night and now we turn it over to you. (I can’t wait to get home and watch 30 ROCK!! This stuff looks great).
Here’s why I love 30 Rock in a nutshell: Tina Fey. She is the funniest woman on the planet. 30 Rock has that great bizarre humor that is random and clever, much like the dearly departed but possibly coming back as a movie Arrested Development.
Plot summary: Dennis, Liz’s former loser beeper king boyfriend, grabs fifteen minutes of fame when he saves someone in the subway. Jack tells Liz to book him on TGS. Blerg. Jack, with the help of Richard Nixon, convinces Tracy to help the GOP and Kenneth is stuck walking around with a former TV star. Great moments- Conan joke, Alec Baldwin’s Nixon impersonation, and Tracy’s Don’t Vote commercial.
My favorite lines of the night:
Liz: “Ah, well sorry, I’m not giving any money until there’s campaign finance reform. Also, I’m saving up money for a new humidifier. It’s the same model keeping Larry King alive.”
Kenneth: “Oh, no sir, I don’t vote Republican or Democrat. Choosing is a sin- so I just always write in the Lord’s name”
Jack: “That’s Republican- we count those”
Mr. Bright: “I just wandered around the building all night. I didn’t run into another single living soul. Except one gigantic lesbian. Who is Conan O’Brien and why is she so sad?”
Jack: “Dennis, what are your politics?”
Dennis: “Social conservative, fiscal liberal.” (Jo’s side note: Okay it’s not as funny on paper but the delivery is priceless.)
Liz: “Everything in my life is work. But not Dennis Duffy. I don’t have to shave, I don’t have to bathe, I don’t have to be clever or nice, you know. I can just be myself. Isn’t that what love really is?”
Jenna: “No. Love is hiding who you really are at all times, even when you’re sleeping. Love is wearing make up to bed and going downstairs to the Burger King to poop.”
Liz to Dennis: “You’re gonna be fine. If reality tv has taught us anything, it’s that you can’t keep people with no shame down.”
Jo has a boring job in a small town in Texas and spends her hours daydreaming about Dillon Panther football, Samuel T. Anders and becoming a real life version of Veronica Mars. Her random TV rants can be found at http://tvonthebrain.wordpress.com.
SCRUBS and Yet Another Banana Hammock

No TV watching for me last night. But that’s ok because GMMR reader Jordan watched for me. Here’s her two cents on last night’s episode of SCRUBS. Here you go….***************
There is just something about Zach Braff’s hair I dislike. Not sure why. I mean, he’s no McDreamy. I must say that the opening scene was just weird and awkward, and I don’t really feel like writing about it. It involved the words “pelvic exam” and “do it without gloves.” Yikes. The basic plot rundown is this: Turk had to have a testicle removed, so he feels less manly. JD helps him through it. Kelso is getting pushed out of his job thanks to Eliot who threw a birthday party for him, thus revealing his true age. The Janitor starts a tri-daily newspaper and runs an unauthorized interview about a soft and vulnerable Dr. Cox…and then they all hang themselves. There was a ten minute point during this episode where I must have fallen asleep or something, because I am now looking at Ted in yet another banana hammock. Worse yet, I am currently eating a banana. If I have to see another banana hammock I will throw my 10” TV set out of my car window. In the car because my apartment is on the first floor and not much damage would occur. Moving car? Yeah, that would work.
Hope You Enjoyed THE OFFICE…Sniff Sniff

Oh cruel, cruel world. What horrible things have I done in my life to deserve this? Do you not understand my undying love for THE OFFICE? Do you not understand that it’s killing me that I can’t watch it!!
Yes, friends. I missed last night’s episode of THE OFFICE. And because I have no self control I of course jumped online and got some spoilers. And what spoilers they were. Jim and Pam talking engagement? James Halpert with a ring? Are you kidding me? And I missed all this? Geesh.
And before you ask, no I can’t watch it online. Believe me, the realization of that has left me crushed this morning. Hell, I got up at 6:15am while on vacation just to watch it online. But being out of the country means no video on NBC.com or Hulu. Again, what a cruel world.
I wish I had something to offer up. My take on whether or not I think Jim and Pam will take that fateful next step (I worry that it’s all a little too much to soon for Ms. Beesly). Or for that matter what actually happened in the rest of the episode (you know the non Jim & Pam stuff). But no such luck. But that doesn’t mean you all can’t tell me, or talk to me about YOUR thoughts on last night episode. I can take it.
Ugh and by that I mean, ugh!!!
Sun, Sand and no TV

Good morning GMMRers. Just wanted to say a quick hello this morning from beautiful Nevis. We’ve only been here one day but we are already having the most incredible time.
We left yesterday morning and flew from Boston to Puerto Rico where we took a short connecting flight to the island of Nevis, which is in the West Indies – close to St. Kitts.
We hit the beach just minutes after arriving and stayed there until our beautiful beach side dinner last night. After dinner there may have been some late night ocean swimming…hmmm. Today we are hitting the beach in the morning and then venturing out on a catamaran which my friends rented us for the day. I’m spoiled…this I know. All 15 of us are here now, and I’m not sure Nevis will ever be the same.
As great of a time I’m having I do feel strangely out of touch. No TV, very limited internet access. It’s 8:30am now and I forced myself out of bed and down to the business center because I just had to do a quick check in. I’m apologize right now for the lack of updates to GMMR this week. I have great people helping me out with the site, but at this rate I might only be able to check in once a day. Hopefully I can get the new reviews up at as soon as possible. I feel like I’m missing out on a lot of great TV news and gossip, but on the other hand, I’m in the Caribbean and honestly don’t care all that much. Ha!
Sorry that this was more of a personal update and not TV related, but I’ve got no TV to talk about. Strange…very strange.
I’ll be checking in again later today.
AMERICAN IDOL – Top 7 Perform

First off, please let me apologize for just posting the AMERICAN IDOL recap now. A day late I’m afraid. As it turns out, I have VERY limited internet access here on the island. Good news and bad news I guess.
But although IDOL is over you must read this hilarious IDOL recap by Glenn and Deb. I got to read it at the airport yesterday and I was laughing my ass off. Much better than I’ll ever do.
So here you go…the IDOL recap. Be sure to show the love!!
********
Before we get started, we would like to thank our GMMR host for giving us this opportunity to publicly voice our non-valued opinions about a TV show which we are passionate about. So let’s get started….
Mariah Carey is the theme…We can’t wait to see how many of our Idol contestants pick songs from the “Glitter” soundtrack. And God help us if we have to hear about how Randy produced multiple Mariah albums.
A few things worth mentioning about some of the contestants before the show starts, after all, this is our first blog!
Brook – Mentally unstable. The only thing that would make me happier than never having to hear her sing again, would be, never having to listen to her talk again. Her post performance interviews are more painful than Paula’s commentary. Time to go.
Kristy Lee Cook – Apparently there are a lot more people down south who have sold enough farm raised corn to obtain a TV from Rent-A-Center and pay a monthly cable bill than I had ever imagined. She should have never made it past Hollywood week.
Syesha Mercado – “OK” singer, I just don’t care.
David Archuleta – I’m convinced he is a victim of some sort of emotional abuse, the obvious “attacker” would be his father who we all know has been getting a bad rep lately. I however think there is an uncle or a former sociopath music teacher who used to play piano while young David worked on his vocals. Regardless, it was probably for the best, he sings like angel.
Does Ryan Secrest work with a coach on syllable emphasis? I hate his beginning show introduction. “ThIs IS amerICAN (pause) IDOL”….yeah, we know chief.
Important to note, Paula just said “differ” instead of “defer” during the pre-performance blubber.
Fast forward the DVR and here we are to our first contestant…
David Cook Singing “Always Be My Baby” (Watch)

My friends Deb and Glenn will have the full AMERICAN IDOL recap, but I wanted to post some of my favorite videos of the night. My boy David Cook rocked it out tonight. I don’t think anything will ever top David Cook’s performance of “Billie Jean” but his take on “Always Be My Baby” was pretty special. It was an emotional performance for David whose brother, who is suffering from brain cancer, was in the audience tonight.
Did you like it as much as I did?

The girls were swooning tonight (as usual) when David Archuleta took to stage with Mariah’s “When You Believe”. I’m going to get in big trouble for saying this, but I’m becoming less and less enamored with David as the contest goes on. The boy can sign but he doesn’t stand out like he once did…at least not to me.
Were you a swooner?

BONES on GMMR…No, Really

When I put out the call the other day to see if any GMMR readers would be interested in keeping the site going while I was on vacation, I was floored by the response. You all are in for a treat because we’ve got some great readers and writers taking over this week. I’m sure by the end of the week you’ll be begging me to stay on vacation.
One thing that really surprised me was how many of you wanted to cover BONES. As you all know, there’s only so many hours in the day, and as much as I would like to, I just can’t watch everything on TV. And to be honest, I feel like kind of a fraud when I try to talk about shows that I just don’t watch. It seems almost like a disservice to those of you who do watch those shows. That being said I really don’t talk about BONES much here on GMMR. But it seems a lot of you love, and I mean really love the show.
So here it is. The very first BONES post here on GMMR courtesy of Seeleybaby. Read it and enjoy, and make sure you give Seelebaby a kind GMMR round of applause.
Take it away…
What’s up Bones watchers? Glad to be back with Bones episodes, right? I have to say this one was funnier the second time I watched it, so if you have the chance, check it out again.
I’m going to break it down into three sections
1. The Case
2. The Squints
3. B+B
Rob Thomas Leaves 90210

My excitement for the upcoming 90210 spinoff just dropped significantly with word that show runner Rob Thomas has left the series to spend more time on this two other pilots. According to E!, Rob won’t even have time to take another pass at the pilot script citing time constraints and his commitment to ABC.
I’m not going to say that I’m not going to watch 90210, but knowing Rob Thomas was at the helm gave me faith in the remake that I’m just not sure is there anymore. I don’t think I was as excited about 90210 coming back as the idea of the creative team behind VERONICA MARS being back on the air. Only time will tell how this will all play out. Meanwhile, I’m sure The CW is more than a bit anxious to find someone new to take over so the show can get back on track.
It was fun while it lasted.
My Apologies to ELI STONE
April 15, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Talk about too little too late. This week marks what I hope to be the season finale and not the series finale of ELI STONE. And I can’t help but feeling all kinds of guilty right about now.
Let’s not get too crazy here. I would never presume that my little TV blog would have any major influence on the overall viewership of a major network TV show, but all the same I feel bad for not championing this show from the beginning. If nothing else GMMR is supposed to be about the shows I love. And I love ELI STONE. I haven’t missed an episode. Yet I hardly talk about it or write about it at all here on GMMR. I haven’t done much of anything in the way of encouraging others to watch the show…and for that I’m sorry.
If the network Gods give the show another shot, I promise that I’ll do what I can to be more supportive. It’s a great show. One that has successfully built upon itself with every new episode. I’m completely enamored with the charming Jonny Lee Miller (Eli). Miller demands sympathy for Eli’s plight, one which has him struggling with his impending death yet simultaneous rebirth as a possible prophet – all while visions of 80’s rock stars and show tunes play out around him. With that plot to work with there is a serious risk of the writing being too overwrought, self important and silly, but it’s not. It’s actually quirky and introspectful without being flaky. Not an easy balance to achieve. The supporting cast is rich and deep and incredibly talented, and for such a large cast no one seems wasted.
I just got around to watching Sunday’s episode this morning, and I just had to take the opportunity to apologize for not talking about this show earlier, when it might have made a difference. Let’s hope it’s not too late for ELI STONE.
The Morning After: ‘Big Bang’, ‘Your Mother’, Paradise’

Hey I don’t name these shows I just watch ’em.I thoroughly enjoyed by Monday night viewing experience. As I’ve effused on many occasion, the one-two punch of THE BIG BANG THEORY and HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER brings a smile to my face. And it’s always nice to end the night feeling bad about yourself, so I chose PARADISE HOTEL 2 as my night cap. Oh Mondays!
I’m going to have to go ahead and give the award for most laughs to THE BIG BANG THEORY. While HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER was amusing enough, I think I was a little let down after the comical juggernaut which was the last new episode, “The Bracket” (seriously, the Doogie Howser ending alone made it damn near perfect). Kudos to the producers for giving Jason Segel a Marshall-centric episode the week that his new movie “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” premieres (April 18th) but as a whole the episode just wasn’t strong. Although, as with every episode of this show, there was a lesson to be learned. Tonight it was all about The Lesson of Blauman and the subsequent ‘Chain Circle Pyramid of Screaming’.
While it too wasn’t the best episode ever, I laughed my ass off during THE BIG BANG THEORY. I know it’s not a huge show, but I really hope that Jim Parsons (Sheldon) gets recognized for the work he’s doing come Emmy time. While the cast is strong, he really carries the biggest comedic weight on that show, and does so perfectly deadpanned…just genius (no pun intended). Seeing Sheldon completely breakdown after a young genius comes to town was too funny. And I don’t know why everyone kept dismissing his plan for Peace in the Middle East via Mexico? I saw no flaw.
What to Watch…Tuesday, April 15, 2008

After the Monday night extravaganza of new scripted TV, tonight it’s back to mostly reality with a few new eppys thrown in for good measure.
Of course for me, Tuesday is all about IDOL. But since I’m going on vacation, I’m placing this week’s IDOL recap in the capable hands of my friends Deb & Glenn. The fact that a slumber party was planned so they can properly recap, well, let’s just say that I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
American Idol | 8pm on Fox
The seven remaining finalists will be mentored by Miss Mariah Carey tonight. I’m sure Carly and the other girls walked a way with pointers on how to dress wildly inappropriate for your age, while the guys learned the not so subtle art of being a diva. After her “mentoring”, the contestants will sing selections from Mariah’s repertoire.
Big Brother 9 | 9pm on CBS
Tonight it’s all about the oh so important power of veto. Sharon and Adam are on the block and need the golden POV to live another day in the Big Brother house. I was a bit spoiled on who won as well as some of the happenings in the house, and all I’m going to say is that it’s getting all kinds of interesting up in there.
Boston Legal | 1opm on ABC
“The Mighty Rogues”
Alan fields a difficult request from Shirley after her father suffers an injury while in the late stages of his battle with Alzheimer’s; Carl represents a group of Nantucket residents who are concerned about homeland security.
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
“Undercover”
Benson poses as a prison inmate to expose a corrupt guard suspected of stealing evidence in a rape case. Shareeka Epps and Hassan Johnson guest star.
Also playing…
- NCIS | 8pm on CBS
- Beauty & the Geek | 8pm on The CW
- The Biggest Loser | 8pm on NBC
- According to Jim | 8pm on ABC
- Dancing with the Stars | 9pm on ABC
- Secret Talents of the Stars | 10pm on CBS
- The Office | 10pm on TBS | Repeat – “Fire”
- The Office | 10:30pm on TBS | Repeat – “Halloween”
What will YOU be watching on this fine Tuesday evening?
