Idol Give Back with a Little Help from So You Think You Can Dance
April 9, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Tonight’s “Idol Gives Back” will be one of the biggest night’s of television all year. Last year’s benefit show rolled out the red carpet for some of world’s biggest celebrities and in doing do raised over $75M for various charities. It’s beyond impressive what they were able to do. They aim for bigger and better things tonight and once again the celebs will be in the house. So if you’re a fan of IDOL or perhaps Carrie Underwood, Snoop Dog, or maybe Brad Pitt (among countless others) then definitely tune in tonight. And if you can spare any extra change, please be sure to contribute what you can.
SPOILER ALERT!!
I consider not posting this little bit of scoop for fear of ruining the moment for some of you, but word is out that some of our favorite dancers from past seasons of SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE open the show with an incredible dance number. According to EW’s PopWatch Benji, Danny, Travis, Nick, Donyelle, Heidi, Hok, Lacey, Pasha, Dmitry, Lauren (and possibly others – please let Jailbait!Ivan be there) took to the stage and “killed it”. OMG! Could I be more excited for tonight? Nope. My “beebies” are dancing together once again…priceless.
Be sure to tune in tonight so you can be part of the discussion here tomorrow.
Idol Gives Back airs tonight at 7:30pm on Fox.

My favorite performance of the night was definitely Jason Castro’s version of “Over the Rainbow”. Everything was just right about it. I’ve already watched it three times and I think a few more viewings will take place. Way to go, Jason!

David Archuleta had little girls swooning with his rendition of the Robbie Williams hit “Angels”. I still feel he’s holding back a little bit. A great performance though.

AMERICAN IDOL – Top 8 Perform

Filed under American Idol, American Idol Recap
In celebration of tomorrow night’s big ‘Idol Gives Back’ episode, the contestants were charged with signing inspirational songs tonight. But I thought the night as a whole was anything but. There were a few standout performances but maybe only one that warrants watching more than a few times.
Here’s my take on the IDOLs tonight.
Michael Johns kicks off the night with Aerosmith’s “Dream On”. First off, what’s with the ascot? That outfit is so not working. But as for the performance, it was ok. Nothing spectacular for me. The guy has a great voice but I didn’t find anything special about his rendition of the song. Randy agreed. Paula thought he sounded as good as he looked (see my previous comment about the ascot), and Simon said he sounded good but this song wasn’t him.
[OMG! Is that Lacey Mae Schwimmer sitting behind Simon? It is! It is! Shut the front door!! Hi Lacey!!]
Syesha Mercado has got to have a big performance tonight or else she risks going home. She’s taking on “I Believe” by Fantasia. It’s a risky choice since the judges hero worship Fantasia. Although it started off a little shaky Syesha brought down the house with her powerhouse of a voice. And how about that note? Holy hell!! YAY!! So happy she had a good performance. The judges better love it. Randy though it was “just ok”. Paula thought it was beautiful. Simon thought it was technically good but he didn’t feel the connection. Come on already.
Kristen Bell in Vanity Fair…VaVaVaVoom

I’d say this this was for the GMMR boys, but let’s face it, even the ladies have to enjoy this stunning picture of HEROES star Kristen Bell from the latest issue of Vanity Fair. Simply gorgeous.
As you probably know, Kristen stars in the soon to be released FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL. She’ll return to TV in the Fall reprising her role as Elle on HEROES but hasn’t yet signed on for the whole season. And although it hasn’t been released, Kristen may be reuniting with VERONICA MARS creator Rob Thomas on one of the new shows he is set to launch in the Fall (and no it’s not the remake of 90210…as if?!)

7 Random Things About Me
April 8, 2008 by Kath Skerry
I’ve been tagged by Rae at Ramblings of a TV Whore to share 7 things about me. And I’m going to take her cue and keep my 7 facts TV and GMMR related since I tend to get a lot of questions about that kind of stuff. I can’t say my life is too interesting (nor will this post be) but here we go.
I can’t remember the last time I watched a TV show where I didn’t have my (appropriately named) laptop on my lap. I really don’t know how to sit back and enjoy a show anymore. I need to be on my laptop the entire time either checking email, IMing with friends, chatting it up in OTCR, or blogging about the show that I’m watching. I don’t think my behavior would be classified as ADHD, but I think it is some kind of generational disorder. I always feel the need to be doing at least two things at once. It’s just sad.
This goes for life, and not just TV, but the minute I feel like I have to do something I no longer have a desire to do it. In terms of my TV and blogging life this comes into play when I have to write a review of a screener I received in the mail, or perhaps a write up about a TV event (recent examples include Paley, TV set visits, etc). I enjoy the experience so much that sometimes it feels like a chore to write all about it. But if I didn’t write about these things I wouldn’t be afforded the opportunities in the first place. Damn those double edge swords.
When TV is in full swing (and not this post WGA strike lag) I don’t normally go to bed until around 2:30AM – and sometimes later on night like Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays which are jam packed with my favorite shows. For example on Wednesday nights I would watch PUSHING DAISIES then PRIVATE PRACTICE followed by DIRTY SEXY MONEY. My shows end at 11pm and then that’s when I have to start writing about them. If I were a good writer I’m sure it would take me a lot longer. Lucky for me I’m kind of a hack so I just jot down whatever thoughts pop into my head. But yeah, I don’t sleep a ton during the TV season.
As my friends can attest, I can relate anything in life back to THE OFFICE. I bite my tongue multiple times a day when a “that’s what she said” is warranted. But it’s not just that, there are numerous times throughout the day that remind me of the show, an episode, the actors. The thing is, I’m fully aware that this is not normal. I just don’t think that I can help myself. Example just from today (and it’s only 2pm) – (1) at the mall and walked by a BCBG store and thought of how Jenna Fischer stopped by the BuddyTV chat and told us that the red shirt Pam bought online was actually from BCBG; (2) out doing errands I drove by Newton South High School and immediately thought of its alums: John Krasinski and BJ Novak; (3) a guy wearing a warehouse-like uniform was standing in front of me at Dunkin Donuts this morning and my mind wandered to thoughts of Roy and what he was up to these days. Not normal. My name is Kath and I’m an OFFICE addict.
It takes a LOT and I mean a LOT to get me to watch a new show. I like what I like and to take on another show at this point almost seems daunting. Even if it’s not up against anything else on my TV schedule I have to be really excited about something to sit through a pilot of a new show. I miss out on a lot of TV, and some really good TV. For someone who loves TV as much as I do I need to give more shows a shot and not be so lazy about it. Perhaps I could take on one new show and maybe give up one of the three hours of BIG BROTHER I watch every week. Ya think?
There are a few people responsible for any modicum of success I’ve had with GiveMeMyRemote.com. First off is the guy behind FatbackMedia.com (NSFW so don’t I say I didn’t warn you). He’s the one that encouraged me to try out blogging in the first place. I guess next would be Mrs. Kristin Dos Santos (formerly known as Kristin Veitch) who had my dream job long before I even knew it was my dream job. I figured I could never do what she was doing so I thought I would have fun with it on my own. Meeting Kristin for the first time last year was a very cool experience for me, and having gotten to know her over the past year I can say that the woman is even cooler than her job. And I guess the last person would be Ms. Jenna Fischer and Mr. John Krasinski who kindly granted a no-name website an interview back in the early days of The Office. That interviewed got the site some attention and put me in touch with some great people at the networks and things just started rolling from there.
Speaking of perks, I’ve been lucky enough to meet a lot of TV celebs over the past few years. And who my favorite celeb encounter was is probably the question I get asked most by GMMR readers. The thing is, everyone has been great. I haven’t really had any bad experiences. Everyone I have met has been super nice (even Simon Cowell). I think there has only been one or two where I was left thinking that he or she wasn’t nearly as cool as they thought they were (and no I’m not going to tell you who). I used to have a “Who I’d like to meet list” on MySpace and I think I am down to just a few (crazy right?). I think the ones I have left are: Michael Vartan and Jennifer Garner (from Alias), Michael Urie (from Ugly Betty) and the piece de resistance, Mr. Joshua Jackson!!
So that’s that. 7 random facts about me, TV and this ‘ol blog of mine. Told you it wasn’t all that exciting. What would be super exciting for me is if YOU were to share some random facts about you. Because honestly, the 8th fact that I would add is that one of the greatest perks of having GMMR is the thrill I get every time someone leaves a comment. It’s nice to know that not only are people reading but that they would take time out of their day to add to the GMMR community – it’s one of the best parts!!!
“Nerd Talk” from the Guys of CHUCK and THE BIG BANG THEORY
April 8, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Filed under Chuck, The Big Bang Theory
Nerds are hot. Just ask the guys of CHUCK and THE BIG BANG THEORY. I had to share this adorable video of the boys from both of these shows talking about nerd culture and what really makes someone a nerd. I think Jim Parsons (Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory) wins the nerdiest of TV award, and I love him for it!
Boo to Yahoo! for not making the clip embedable. (Click here or on the image below to watch the video).
And for the record, no matter how hard he tries to convince us that he’s a nerd at heart, Zachary Levi of CHUCK just does not qualify. Yes, he’s a gamer, but that along just isn’t enough. Sorry Levi. I’ll give Chuck Bartowski the nerd stamp (although I think that’s even a stretch), but Zachary just doesn’t make the cut.
PROJECT RUNWAY Says Auf Wiedersehen to Bravo and Guten Tag to Lifetime
April 8, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Bad news for Bravo. In news that made headlines yesterday it was announced that Bravo’s signature show, PROJECT RUNWAY, will be moving its catwalk to Lifetime next season. NBC, who owns Bravo, was not too happy and has filed a lawsuit. Here’s the skinny (straight from Bob Loblaw’s Law Blog)…
PROJECT RUNWAY is owned by The Weinstein Comapny who sold the show to Bravo in 2003. Fast forward five years later and the Weinstein’s decide to sell the show to Lifetime. NBC claims they legally had first rights to bid on the show and said that by dealing with Lifetime the The Weinstein Co. were “engaging in sham negotiations” and that the Lifetime deal is an “invalid agreement”. They went on the say that “[NBC Universal] regrettably had no alternative but to bring legal action to enforce its rights to this program.”
The Weinstein Co. claims that NBC Universal declined to compete for the right to keep Project Runway (a statement that NBC Universal denies) and that they were fully within their rights to license the show to Lifetime.
Regardless of how this all turns out, PROJECT RUNWAY will air its 5th season on Bravo sometime before November. If the deal goes through, the 6th season will be over on Lifetime. If it doesn’t, then Heidi will be auf’fing people on Bravo per usual.
Reaction from the people…
GMMR is a blog of the people so we wanted to know what said people thought about this big announcement. Dan from DuckyDoesTV.com says “I don’t even know what number Lifetime is on my cable box. I know that Bravo is 79 and that I love me some Bravo. I could watch it all day and IT IS HOME TO PROJECT RUNWAY.”
And what does GMMR’s own PROJECT RUNWAY expert Jennifer Eolin have to say about all of this? On her MySpace blog Ms. Eolin asks the questions we all want to know about this new deal.
1. Is Valerie Bertinelli taking over for Heidi Klum?
2. Will they show promos for “The Burning Bed” during the show?
3. Will Kors beat Nina Garcia up in a bitch fight and then blame it on a pesky doorknob?
4. WTF?! HOW does this show fit this network!? It’s like putting Iron Chef on VH1. Or PGA Golf on the Style Channel. Or basketball on any channel.
Let your voices be heard!! What do YOU think of PROJECT RUNWAY leaving Bravo and heading to Lifetime. Will it matter? Will you still watch? (I love tackling important world issues!!)
What to Watch…Tuesday, April 8, 2008

There’s plenty of TV to choose from tonight, especially if you like reality shows. I might be live blogging IDOL, I haven’t decided yet. What do you think?
Here’s my big question though…who is still watching REAPER? I gave it a fair shot at the beginning of the season but it completely lost my interest. I don’t watch that much CW so I don’t see many promos for it and I often forget all about it. Are any of you watching? I’m intrigued. I’m still a fan of Bret Harrison (not his fault the writing sucks) and I’m a big fan of tonight’s guest stars – Michael Ian Black and Ken Marino. Maybe I’ll check it out.
American Idol | 8pm on Fox
The eight remaining finalists perform inspirational songs. Seriously? Inspirational songs? I know “Idol Gives Back” is tomorrow night, but I think this is the latest theme ever. I have to wonder what little David Archuleta’s Dad is going to choose for him this week. Cheese. I can just see Simon rolling his eyes now.
Dancing with the Stars | 8pm on ABC
The third results show of the season. Also: Sheryl Crow sings “All I Wanna Do” and “Out of Our Heads”; ballroom-dancing champions Delyan Terziev and Boriana Deltcheva perform; two teams of kids age 9 and under compete.
Big Brother 9 | 9pm on CBS
The Power of Veto competition is held. I’m not sure which houseguests should be allowed to participate but it shouldn’t be James. James should actually have all his house privileges revoked and have to stand in a corner for his ridiculous outburst the other night. I haven’t seen anyone cry like that since my three year old niece fell down and when boom. Pathetic James, just pathetic. And all this time I thought the gay porn was going to be the biggest regret of your life. Crying like a baby on national TV may just trump gay porn.
Boston Legal | 1opm on ABC
“Tabloid Nation”
Alan and Jerry go after a tabloid talk show when a women is murdered for turning down a marriage proposal on the air. Meanwhile, Denny hopes a dinner invitation from Shirley will rekindle their long-ago romance, and Lorraine advises Alan to seek help
Also playing…
- NCIS | 8pm on CBS
- Beauty & the Geek | 8pm on The CW
- The Biggest Loser | 8pm on NBC
- Just for Laughs | 8pm on ABC
- Reaper | 9pm on The CW
- Secret Talents of the Stars | 10pm on CBS
- The Office | 10pm on TBS | Repeat – “Sexual Harassment”
- The Office | 10:30pm on TBS | Repeat – “Office Olympics”
What will YOU be watching on this fine Tuesday evening?
Ryan Sutter Gives Fatherly Advice

One of the very few “we met on TV and actually fell in love” reality TV success stories is that of “Bachelorette” Trista Rehn and her dreamy husband, Ryan Sutter. I was one of those suckers that were pulling for Trista to pick Ryan from the minute he walked out of the limo, and followed them through happily to their lavished (televised) nuptials. And now a few years later, together they have an adorable 7-month old son, Max (it looks like Max got his Daddy’s baby blues).
Ryan still remains as easy on the eyes and is swoonworthy than ever – especially after reading his “Ten Things You Didn’t Know About Dad’s” piece for MomLogic.com.
1. Even when you’re about to breastfeed, we get turned on because we’re guys and we just see boobs.
2. When we’re left in charge, we break all the rules. (Sorry, Trista, I know you said it was too cold for Max and me to go out the other day, but we bundled up and went anyway.)
3. Sometimes we “don’t realize” they have poopy diapers and let you discover it.
4. Dads are sensitive too, and sometimes we feel fat.
5. Honestly, we do steal glances at cute 25-year-olds who walk by. That’s why we never leave home without our sunglasses!
6. We really do love having our mothers-in-law around when they help with the kids and give us a break.
7. We’re actually proud when he discovers his pee-pee.
8. It’s really sexy when you have no makeup on. Honestly, we prefer less makeup and seeing you in casual clothes.
9. We’re scared to death during the days leading up to the due date. We have no idea what to expect during the birth process. Everyone says just focus on caring for your wife…what does that mean? We need more direction than that!
10. We just don’t talk about beer and sports with our friends. We talk about being dads and how much we love our kids and wives.

THE OFFICE’s TV Guide Cover

Jim, Pam and Dwight will be on the cover of the April 14th issue of TV Guide. Many people were wondering what secrets the cover would reveal, and sadly not many. There’s plenty of speculation to be had (and you know we love that around here), but whether or not the accompanying article will deliver on the questions raised on the cover is yet to be seen.
What I don’t like is the look on Pam’s face when the text surrounding her reads “Will Jim propose? Will Pam accept?” I really can’t take that kind of stress in my life right now. Listen up, Beesly. I know you are trying to be all FNB and you just got out of a ten year relationship which included a three year engagement, but this is Jim Halpert. James ‘Frakking’ Halpert. Don’t be turning him down, the boy can only take so much. More of my speculation after the jump. (Update: The more I look at that picture the more I’m convinced that the hand around Pam is Dwight’s and hence her shocked expression)
In case you were wondering, yes, I am very excited for next Thursday’s all new episode of THE OFFICE.
A few spoilers from inside the issue after the jump.
