Project Buffy: Top 5 Episodes
April 7, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Filed under Buffy the Vampire Slayer
The response to PROJECT BUFFY has been overwhelming…in a good way. It seems that long time BUFFY fans are still enjoying talking about their favorite show even years after it ended. As a relative newbie in the BUFFYverse, the number on question I get is “what was your favorite episode?”. It’s a scary question because I know no matter what my response I’m going to be met with the inevitable “Are you kidding me?” or “I can’t believe xxx didn’t make it into your top 5!”
Before I list my Top 5 episodes, let me just say that it’s almost unfair to choose because I can honestly say that almost every episode could be argued to have made this list. But I had to go with my gut. I asked myself, when I think back on my experience watching BUFFY which episodes really stood out to me as the most memorable? This was not easy…I changed my top 5 at least 5 times, just today. Why am I nervous?
But without further ado…my BUFFY top 5.
#5: “The Gift”
Buffy must square off against a true god when Glory prepares to use Dawn to break down the walls between the dimensions and unleash Hell on Earth.
When I think back on this episode I think of two things – Buffy’s selfless leap to her death to save her sister and the world, and the subsequent breakdown by the Scoobies after finding their friend’s lifeless body. The one-two punch of Willow and Spike slayed me (pun not only intended but planned). This episode was the proper end to the Glory storyline – one I didn’t like at first. But in the end, the idea that Buffy was up against something that she couldn’t easily stifle made her plight all the more interesting. I was glad to see her finally kick some ass (yay for troll hammers).
#4: “Storyteller”
Andrew films the Scoobies for a documentary on Buffy, while Sunnydale High is rocked by a sudden outbreak of student violence. Xander and Anya reconsider their relationship.
I haven’t spent anytime on message boards or even talking to many BUFFY fans (outside of Dan and Rae) about their favorite episodes, so I really have no sense of where or even “if” ‘Storyteller’ would make anyone else’s Top 5 list. But for me, this episode was fantastic because it was all about Andrew. I loved me some Andrew! This kid cracked me up like no other and provided the comic relief in a very dark, heavy (and at times boring) final season of the show. I remember having to rewind a few scenes in this episode because I was laughing so hard – just awesome! (This is the episode that I’m expecting the most grief over…but I can take it!)

Color me bummed! I look forward to my Monday night comedies and when I realize that they are repeats…well ugh. No new eps of How I Met Your Mother or The Big Bang Theory tonight, but there’s still plenty to choose from on the ‘ol telly tonight.
Dancing with the Stars | 8pm on ABC
A fourth week of performances includes the paso doble and the Viennese waltz. Since there’s not a lot else on tonight, maybe I’ll check out DwtS. No promises. I’ve been so spoiled by SYTCYD that this show has a tendency to bore me.
New Amsterdam |9pm on Fox
“Reclassified”
The dying wish of John’s first partner (Chris Bauer), who was shot in the line of duty, brings back memories of John’s early days as a detective, and even provides clues about his search for mortality.
Samantha Who? |9:30pm on ABC | New
“The Girlfriend”
Samantha has to move back into the apartment when she learns that she could be evicted for subletting it to Todd. Meanwhile, Dena and Sam’s mom bond when Sam doesn’t show up for a makeover night with her mother.
The Bachelor | 10pm on ABC
Nine bachelorettes remain, and Matt takes Amanda R. on a 1950s-themed date at Santa Monica Pier. He cooks dinner for Holly and Marshana (one gets a rose for dessert; the other a ticket home), and it’s an afternoon of tennis and tea for the other six.
Paradise Hotel 2 | 9pm on My TV
“A Tearful Goodbye”
The ladies are worried Myrna will use her immunity to send them home, but her actions surprise everyone. I missed last week’s episode so I don’t know who Myrna is. Looks like I have some catching up to do this morning.
Of course there are many other shows on tonight. What will YOU be watching?
Rave Reviews for FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL

Two of my favorite TV peeps, Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars, Heroes) and Jason Segel (How I Met Your Mother), are starring together in a new comedy, FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL. A few of my friends caught a sneak peek and had nothing but rave reviews (and not only for Segel’s full frontal). But when the big wigs like Richard Roeper of Ebert & Roeper put the movie on his list of his favorite comedies of all time, well that doesn’t suck.
The movie opens on April 18th so make sure you check it out on opening night. For those of you who haven’t seen the trailer, check it out below…as well as Roeper’s and guest critic Michael Phillips glowing reviews!
I can’t wait to see this movie!!
THE OFFICE Spoilers and Speculation

We are less than one week away from the return of THE OFFICE. I don’t know about you but the thought of seeing my favorite Dunder Mifflinites back after such a long hiatus is oddly comforting.
This week’s episode titled ‘Dinner Party’ was the last one written before the WGA strike and was said to be the funniest table read the cast had ever had for any single episode. The glimpses revealed through various promos and scenes (see below) look so funny and so very cringeworthy – exactly what THE OFFICE does best. But what’s in store for Jim, Pam, Michael, Dwight and the rest of the crew when the show airs its first post-strike episode?
(A scene from “Dinner Party”)
Showrunner Greg Daniels has confirmed that the timeline will indeed reflect the months off resulting from the strike, but just how the lapse in time will be explained we just don’t know. Will the ‘documentary’ crew have taken a few months off? Will Corporate think the cameras needed to go away for a little while after the chaos surrounding Jan’s lawsuit? I guess we’ll know in just a few weeks.
I’ll be honest with you. What I’m most interested in is how the time jump has affected my favorite TV couple Jim and Pam. Before the emails come pouring in, please understand that I realize THE OFFICE is more than just the Jim and Pam hour. This is MY favorite show on TV, so I know better. But in terms of the characters most affected by the strike, Jim and Pam top the list. And now comes word that our favorite duo may have some big happenings right around the corner.
Battlestar Galactica Recap: “He That Believeth in Me”

Title: “He that Believeth in Me”
Original Airdate: April 4, 2008
GMMR Recapper: Jo
Previously, there were seven known Cylons: Six, the blonde in red, one model goes by Caprica Six, Three- (formerly known as Xena) goes by D’anna, Five is Doral the journalist from the miniseries who’s bureaucratic about Cylon culture, Eight- Sharon Boomer/Sharon Athena, Leoben the creepy religious one, Simon the doctor, and Cavil the priest. Then All Along the Watchtower started playing and we got four more- Tory, the president’s right hand woman, Chief Tyrol (I still have trouble believing it) , Col. Tigh (okay that’s a sweet surprise) and my future husband, former Caprica Buccaneers captain turned Viper nugget Samuel T. Anders.
This leaves one left.
The Cylons arrived and started hammering the humans, space style warfare galore. Lots of chaos, but separate plot lines. So I’ll start with the Cult of Baltar.
Gaius was acquitted and whisked away by the chick who used to be on Jake 2.0. I haven’t figured out her name yet. She brings Baltar into an unused compartment of Galactica that has been turned into a shrine. To him. Full of easily manipulated women who already worship Baltar. He seems uncomfortable for half a second before he starts spouting off his new One God theory that Figment!Six provides him and prays over a sick boy. Two men try to kill him while in the head but his bodyguard chick beats them both up.

I think you all know by now that I’m a big fan of Jimmy Kimmel, so you can just imagine how excited I am to be going to tonight’s taping of JIMMY KIMMEL LIVE’s 1000th episode. It’s going to be a blast…and not just because I get to watch the show from the Green Room…oh yeah, that’s how I roll. I just got the kind invite not too long ago.
Jimmy’s scheduled guests include Kid Rock and Eva Longoria Parker, and we’ve all heard about the special Richard Simmons video Jimmy has planned. You never know who else might just show up.
The show starts at a special time tonight 11:35pm so make sure you stay up to watch and set your TiVos.
All those stars will be great to meet, but I’d be lying if I wasn’t hoping that ex-Kimmel writer Bill Simmons will be there. Me and the Sports Guy?! Fingers crossed.
Wish me luck! I’ll be Twittering from the Green Room so if you don’t already follow me on Twitter, tonight be a good night to start.

We are one week away from the return of the official Thursday night ‘Comedy Done Right’. I’m not sure I can make it another seven days. Fans of MY NAME IS EARL are lucky to have their show back tonight, but the rest of us dying to see 30 ROCK and THE OFFICE have to sit tight. I guess I’ll just try to get through tonight’s TV activities first. There’s a nice (tall and lanky) trend to my evening. Sadly I’m going be on a plane heading back to Boston so I’m not sure just what I’ll be able to see.
Here’s just a sample of what’s on tonight…
My Name is Earl | 8pm on NBC | New! 1-hour
“I Won’t Die With A Little Help From My Friends”″
In the wake of being hit by a car, Earl slips into a coma and spirals into a bizarro sitcom world that includes an appearance by none other than Paris Hilton (appearing as herself).
Survivor: Micronesia – Fans vs. Favorites | 8pm on CBS
“Lost Puppy”
Another castaway is voted out of the game. (GMMR: I’m so disappointed that I love track with Survivor this season. I started off strong but it got away from me. Maybe next season?)
Eli Stone | 10pm on ABC
“Heartbeat”
While defending Nathan in a medical-malpractice suit, Eli is transported back in time to the day their father (Tom Cavanagh) died. Meanwhile, Taylor takes on an extraordinary divorce case involving cheating spouses.
The Office | 9pm-11pm on NBC
NBC 2008-09 Fall Schedule…Take a Look

NBC certainly has been the news maker today. By announcing their Fall schedule early NBC can set itself apart and get their messages out there without the normal TV clutter that comes with the traditional Upfront presentations. The peacocks were aggressive, and as a result we have a new Fall schedule to check out and become familiar with – that is until NBC decides they made too many hasty decisions and pull half the shows from the schedule before they even air.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS Returns and More from News NBC

Had I been paying attention and known that NBC was going to be having their faux Upfronts today I might have stayed a bit closer to my computer. But alas I am a wee bit behind in sharing the big news from the Peacock today. But there is news (and not just that of THE OFFICE spinoff), and most of it is pretty fantastic.
Let’s not bury the lead here, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS is returning for a third season. Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Hot Dang! My favorite drama mama will be part of a deal with NBC and DirectTV which will have DirecTV airing the episodes first in the Fall and NBC airing them in the Winter. It’s going to suck for those of who don’t have DirecTV as the spoilers will be rampant. But if it was a choice over being spoiled or not having the show come back, I’ll deal with the spoilers.
The superheroes are pulling a switch-a-roo (or not). In my old age my eyes are starting to go, and I thought I had read that CHUCK and HEROES were swapping time slots on Monday nights. I was so excited at the thought of Sylar has melting my brain and then Chuck Bartowski to melting my heart that I screwed it all up. The two shows will remain as it with CHUCK airing at 8pm and HEROES airing at 9pm. Hell, I don’t really care as long as CHUCK comes back soon!!
More form the NBC Upfront presentation after the jump….
THE OFFICE Spinoff is Happening
April 2, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Filed under The Office, The Office Spinoff
I’ve been out and about all day looking at apartments, but when I checked my email via my phone and saw that I had over 30 emails with variations of “The Office Spinoff” in the title, I kind of panicked.
By now you probably know that yes, THE OFFICE spinoff is happening and the first episode of the yet to be named, titled, conceived (more on this in a minute) show will air after next year’s Superbowl, and will follow THE OFFICE in the NBC lineup on Thursday nights.
Just last week, during a conference call with Greg Daniels and Rainn Wilson, E!’s Korbi Ghosh asked about the rumored spinoff once thought to star Wilson’s Dwight Schrute, but didn’t get a straight answer. In response to the rumor, Wilson said “…the rumor of the Dwight spin-off was like some – I was at the Tony’s, I think, because I was presenting. And some guy from New York – I think it was like the New York Post. He’s like hey, Rainn, Ben Silverman is in charge at NBC now so what’s next for Dwight. And I – as I walked by I was like I don’t know, I smell a Dwight spin-off. And he goes, can I quote you on that? Can I quote you on that? And I just walked away and then it was like all over TV as this – it’s preposterous.”
But how preposterous was it really? Especially with the news that the spinoff has been under consideration for quite some time.
Here’s what we do know (or think we know) about the new OFFICE spinoff: Greg Daniels will be the showrunner for the spinoff as well the original series. But according to sources for E!, there is no concept for the show yet – they’ve been trying to come up with something for over a year but still have nothing. No definite word on whether or not the new show will take any actors away from Dunder Mifflin, but if Ben Silverman has anything to say about it (which he shouldn’t because he’s a suit and not the creative genius that is Greg Daniels) it sounds like some of our favorite Dunder Mifflinites might be featured. Silverman noted, “We can’t even service some of these great actors and performers [on the original show], so it’s very likely you will see some of those actors on the spin-off.”
Yeah, so that’s that. I don’t really know what to think about this news. On one hand the idea of an OFFICE spinoff scares the H-E- double hockey sticks out of me, especially if said spinoff would take anyone from the original series. But then again, it’s Greg Daniels and I’m so his bitch, so anything he does I’d have to support. But then yet again, it sounds like the spinoff wasn’t born from Greg’s need to tell another story as much as it was Ben Silverman’s need for money.
We’ll be paying attention to this story as it develop, but as always I would encourage each of you to also stay tuned into OfficeTally.com (a Sheinhedrt Wig/GE/Universal company) for the latest updates.
What do you think of the possible OFFICE spinoff?
Should we help out Greg Daniels? Any thoughts on the new premise?

AMERICAN IDOL crooner David Cook was hospitalized after his performance on Tuesday night after feeling heart palpitations. The singer was rushed to the hospital but was later released after being treated for high blood pressure. He is said to be feeling better.
Clearly David just needs some little TLC. Now if I only knew were the IDOL apartments were here in L.A..

David Cook got my attention this week with his performance of the Dolly Parton classic “Little Sparrow”. I just dig this guy and I hope he takes it all (and by that I mean I hope he comes in 2nd or 3rd so he can make his career his own).
Check out David’s performance…
It wasn’t Billie Jean (or Eleanor Rigby…or Hello) but I still dug this performance. What about you?

David Cook is my all around favorite IDOL contestant, but I think others had really strong performances this week. I couldn’t decide on which videos to honor so I went with Jason, Michael and Carly. I’m indecisive…sue me!
Michael Johns Singing “It’s All Wrong but it’s Right”
Jason Castro Singing “Travelin’ Thru”
Carly Smithson Singing “Here You Come Again”
Did any of these performances make your list of the night’s best?
