HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER Shows the Love

How I Met Your Mother Season Finale

It was just this past week that CBS announced the fate of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER.  Thankfully the news was good and the show will be returning in the Fall. Whew.  But I have to wonder if last night’s episode was also written as the series finale in case the news from CBS wasn’t good.

Ted: Ted, the ultimate marrying man breaking up with his girlfriend because she was thinking too far ahead in the future?  Where did that come from? Thank goodness that car crash knocked some sense into him.  Ted proposing didn’t really shock me but I can’t say that I was expecting it.  I like Stella and I like what Sarah Chalke brings to the show.  I’m still not convinced she is the mother, but the more I watch Stella and Ted the more ok I am with it.  Here’s to hoping we see a lot more of her next season.  I mean Ted did propose.  But see what I mean about this episode working as the series finale.  Although I would be a bit underwhelmed, they could have had Ted propose and cut away to the kids and Danny Tanner saying, “and that’s how I met your mother.”  Right?

THE BIG BANG THEORY Ends with a Bang

I don’t know about you but I’m kind of living for the moment where I can use the principles Schrödinger’s cat in a conversation. I’ll seem so smart.  Not Sheldon smart because really, no one should be that smart.  Sometimes I wonder how he gets through life without his brain exploding.  There’s just too much going on in his noggin…constantly…and it never stops…ever. As this is the final show of it’s Freshman season, a shout out to Jim Parson for his truly brilliant work this season.  I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for him come Emmy time because he truly deserves to be up there with the best of the funny guys of TV.But back to the happenings of last night. Let’s talk about Leonard and Penny, shall we?  What was up with that kiss?  I wasn’t expecting that and clearly neither was Penny.  But now that we know that the ‘cat is alive’ will we be seeing the pairing of Leonard and Penny next season?  Those two as a couple could be hilarious, but I just can’t see it happening.  I mean come on – Penny and Leonard?  I guess stranger things have happened, but I just can’t think of them right now.

I’ll be seriously missing this show this summer.  If you didn’t watch THE BIG BANG THEORY this past season, do what you can to get caught up on CBS.com.  You won’t be disappointed.

The Best Night of TV

I’ve just watched THE BIG BANG THEORY, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER and GOSSIP GIRL.  I still have HOUSE ahead of me, but may I just say that this is shaping up to be one hell of a night of TV.  And that’s not even counting the no hitter that Jon Lester of the Red Sox just threw.  Hot damn. I just felt like I needed an outlet to share my TV love.  I didn’t know where to turn, and then I remembered.  Oh right, I have a TV blog.  So there you have it.  Can’t wait to talk Monday night season finales with you all. More on all those shows later.

Fox Missing the Point

I’ve got a major pet peeve with Fox. What’s up with not airing shows online until 8 days after the original broadcast airing? I thought one of the reason for showing the episodes online was that so people could catch up in the event that they missed an episode. No? Ugh. I missed last week’s episode of HOUSE and now I can’t even watch part one online before the conclusion and season finale tonight. So frustrated.

I hate to ask but I’m going to…anyone know where else I can watch it online? Sorry Fox but desperate times call for desperate measures. Found it.

Check out part of the promo for the new 90210 that was shown during last week’s CW Upfronts. I am way too old for this stuff, but I’m pretty sure I’m already hooked.

Are you gonna live in the zip or wave as drive quickly out of town?

Upfront ’08 Memories – Meeting Joshua Jackson

By now you all probably know that last week I was in NYC for the network upfronts. For a TV fan like me it was a pretty amazing experience. Lots of TV scoop, free booze and TV stars just walking around like they were normal people. Ha ha. It was a great week. A very special thanks to my friend Kelly who not only let me crash with her for the week but hooked me up big time. Love you Kells!

Over the week I’m going to be sharing some of my favorite memories and pictures from the Upfronts 2008. You’re going to be seeing my mug a lot, so I’ll just go ahead and apologize in advance for that.

I was thinking that I might as well start with my favorite moment from the Upfronts…meeting Joshua Jackson.

Joshua Jackson (FRINGE) and me at the Fox Upfronts 2008

My TV obsession started with DAWSON’S CREEK and for me The Creek was all about Pacey Witter. I always thought Joshua Jackson was a fantastic actor and I’m glad he’s coming back to TV in FRINGE which looks so promising. Joshua is at the top of my list of TV boyfriends, but until last Thursday I had never had the opportunity to actually meet him. Read more

Title: “Guess What’s Coming to Dinner”
GMMR Recapper: Jo
Humor is lost somewhere in the universe, but I love the quippy title for such a weighty episode. I would’ve gone less creative with “Gaeta sings pretty”.

39,673. If I remember that’s sans the chick on Demetrius and the cancer woman. This week is sans one Gaeta leg. The episode picks right back up from last week, with Demetrius and the Rebel baseship jumping back to the Fleet. Except whoops, Demetrius didn’t make it and The Rebels have no coms. Normally I would hate on blatant plot devices, but this is Battlestar Galactica and I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. Galactica launches an attack, but Tigh using his Cylon spidey sense calls a weapons hold at the last possible second. Enter Demetrius and Helo saying please don’t blow up the baseship. The captured Cylons present a truce to Adama. They’ll show the humans the resurrection hub if the humans will help them unbox D’anna. Unbox D’anna and everyone will get the final five. Camera zooms in on Tory, who’s taking notes in this meeting, and Tigh’s one eye. The final five, according to the Cylons, know the way to Earth. I love this turn about in Col. Tigh’s character from going from complete self destruction to self preservation because his suggestion is just blow the resurrection ship and get out of there.

TV Talk with GMMR and Ducky: TV Podcast #22

Filed under The TV Talk Podcast

We said we’d be back with another TV Talk Podcast in a week but it took almost a week and a half…I think you survived just fine. But just in case we have an extra long TV Talk podcast for you today.

I was at the Upfront presentations so there’s plenty to talk about including my celebrity sightings, stalkings, and dancing partners. We’ll even talk about Joss Whedon’s DOLLHOUSE and J.J. Abrams FRINGE starring my mega crush Josh Jackson. SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE might get a couple minutes (or five along) with her time with The Office and Tina Fey!

Back to your regularly scheduled podcast, we head right into GOSSIP GIRL, AMERICAN IDOL, THE OFFICE, GREY’S, BATTLESTAR GALACTICA and more. Plus, it’s the return of TWO IDIOTS TALK LOST (*we talk about the finale being this week but listener Michael pointed out that it’s not until May 29th – phew!) where we rehash the first hour of the three hour Season 4 finale, once again proving that even idiots can enjoy Lost. And as a bonus feature, we have a special guest to help us talk about the Season 3 finale of The CW’s SUPERNATURAL.

Sit back and relax because this Podcast almost hits 90 minutes. You read that right, 90 minutes of babbling, giggling, bitching, and TV Talk!

Steve Carell on SNL: Opening Monologue and “Bless this Child”

Steve Carell made the most of his hosting duties during last night’s season finale of SATURDAY NIGHT LIGHT. In case you missed it, here’s Steve’s opening monologue (with a special appearance by his wife Nancy Walls).

And one of the oddest, but funniest skits was Steve and Kristin Wiig’s “Bless this Child”

And if you missed it, here’s the Japanese version of THE OFFICE.

We promised a new podcast this week, and yeah it’s been a little over a week, but hey I have a good excuse. I’m in a mad scramble to watch the TV I missed while at the Upfronts in NYC so I have something to contribute when Ducky and I meet later today to do some podcasting. I still have 2 BSGs, LOST and GREY’S to go. No pressure, right? Ugh.

I know it’s kind of last minute, but if you have any questions for Ducky and I about anything TV (where your favorite shows are going, spoilers and speculations on finales, etc) you can either leave a comment on this post, or you can leave us a voice message question which allows YOU to be part of the TV Talk with GMMR and Ducky.

SNL: The Japanese Version of THE OFFICE

The best moment of last night’s season final of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE was most definitely the digital short during which Ricky Gervais’ introduced us to the original version of THE OFFICE. Nope, it’s not his UK version but rather the original, original OFFICE which of course was from Japan. Jason Sudekis as Jim Halpert kills me.

The Fox Upfronts – The Morning After

Can’t say that I have the proper words to sum up the amount of fun I had at last night’s Fox Upfront party in NYC.  It was a crazy good time and a night that I will NEVER forget.  It was quite the way to end an already extraordinary week.

I know I’ve been promising pictures and they will be coming soon, I swear.  I have this amazing knack for leaving at home the cord I need to upload my pictures.  But pictures you will get…and some video too.  Oh yes, the video I have from last night is Ah-mah-zing.  But when you spend the better part of your night dancing with your favorite stars from SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE taking video to remember it all is just flat out necessary.

THE OFFICE Season Finale…See You in September

    The Office Season Finale
I never like to share my thoughts of THE OFFICE until I watch the episode at least twice. I’m particularly happy that I didn’t take to the keyboard immediately after I watched last night’s season finale, because what I would have said then as opposed to what I’m saying now would have been completely different.

I loved last night’s episode. I loved it up one side and down another. I thought it was sharp, the comedy was layered, and we were reminded just why we care so much about these seemingly random people working at a paper company. Unlike some of the other hour long episodes of THE OFFICE, this one was tight and not a moment went to waste. The full cast was used (although not as much as I would have liked) and it was an hour of ensemble comedy that I enjoyed and plan on watching many times throughout the long summer months just waiting for my favorite show to come back in the Fall.

Now, had I shared my thoughts after watching the episode just one time, it would have sounded a bit more like this: Are you kidding me? That was so completely lame. Toby left? Ryan arrested? And no engagement for Jim and Pam. Ugh, I can’t believe that’s all we get until next Fall…I’m so disappointed!

I thought it was worthwhile to let you know that despite ending up feeling great about the episode, I like many of you, was initially disappointed in last night’s episode. But what I came to realize was that when I watched it for the first time I was wishing the whole episode away. I had certain expectations of what I was going to see and I spent the whole time just waiting for those expectations to be played out. I was waiting for the promised twists and turns…the reason that the set was on full lockdown during filming…ok let’s be honest, I was waiting for Jim to propose. And when that didn’t happen, I was left feeling let down and completely bummed out. But the real reason to be disappointed was that because of my own issues I had just missed all the small and brilliant moments that made up the fourth season finale.

    A Plea to OFFICE Fans

Fellow fans of THE OFFICE.  It pains me in every way possible to say this, but I’m not going to be watching tonight’s season finale live.  I know, I know, but it can’t be helped.  While all of you on the East Coast are watching the episode I’ll be at the Fox Upfront party here in NYC.  While I’m looking forward to the party I am nauseated at the thought of missing the finale.

So here’s what I ask, nee I beg of you.  Please don’t leave any comments with spoilers.  Don’t email me.  Don’t IM me.  Don’t leave me a MySpace message.  Don’t text me. For my friends – don’t call me.  Nothing. Not even an “OMG”, “WTF?” or something seemingly as innocent as “I’m dying”.  Not at least until I jump online with an office Season Finale post.  Please I can’t bear the thought of being spoiled.

    Yours kindly,

    GMMR
