THE OFFICE: ‘Job Fair’

THE OFFICE logo

(This post and its comments include speculation on next week’s season finale of THE OFFICE.  Please be advised.)

Hmmm.  I guess I should say that this episode of THE OFFICE was really for the die hard fans.  Because anyone just watching it for the comedy might be left feeling a bit underwhelmed.  Tonight episode had a few funny moments (ok Andy taking a dig off the golf cart is the only one that comes to mind), but it really served as a set up episode for the season finale.  Not sure why it couldn’t be funny while planting the seeds for next week. I don’t normally like to write a review of the episode after just one viewing, but I’m going to go with my initial impression on this one tonight.

Settle in, because you know how I like to talk about this show…

Previously on Varsity Blues…
Michael, Darryl, Oscar and Pam headed to a high school job fair to try to recruit for the Dunder Mifflin internship position.  And yes, it went as badly as you would expect it to.  Somehow Michael’s only prop – a blank sheet of paper on which students could writer their hopes and dreams – didn’t really attract anyone, except for Justin, but Michael managed to offend him enough that he wasn’t interested.  Oh and Michael got his hands on a microphone, so that’s that.

ELI STONE to Return Next Season

The ABC Upfronts are next week and rumors are swirling that one of my favorite new shows of this past year, ELI STONE, will get the nod to return next season. Nothing is official of course, but these kinds of rumors are definitely welcome.

I’ll be at the presentation in NYC when ABC pres Steve McPherson makes the announcement so as soon as I know – you’ll know. Fingers crossed.

Thanks to KDS at E! for the scoop.

Sneak Peek at the 30 ROCK Season Finale

May 8, 2008 by
Filed under 30 Rock, TV News

Will Liz Lemon, NYC’s most notoriously single woman, be sporting the oh so fashionable baby bump? Will Tracy Jordan succeed is creating the ultimate porn video game? Will Kenneth the Page make his Olympic dreams come true? Will Jack Donaghy return to GE as Vice President of East Coast Television and Microwave Oven Programming or stay with Homeland Security? All these questions and more will be answered on a very special episode of 30 ROCK tonight.

Tonight’s season finale is jam packed with the funny. I should know – I’ve watched it twice already. Jealous? Yeah, that’s what I was going for.

If we have to say goodbye to 30 ROCK for a few months (again) at least we are left with one hell of an episode. You’ll be left satisfied and smiling (that’s what she said). But how could you know when you’ve got freedom searches, sabetours and memories of a three-way with Roseanne and Tom Arnold.

Familiar faces Celeste “C.C.” Cunningham (Edie Falco) and Donny “the Page” Lawson return to 30 Rockefeller tonight along with Ferris Bueller himself, Matthew Broderick – or as I like to call him Mr. Sarah Jessica Parker.

Jack McBrayer, better known as Kenneth the Page will be live blogging over at NBC.com tonight after the East Coast airing of the season finale. So head over there after the show and check it out.

If you just can’t wait until tonight then I invite you to spoil yourself rotten with these clips from tonight’s episode. But really, should you? I mean you only have about 22 minutes of 30 ROCK until next Fall. Can’t you just wait until 9:30pm tonight to check it out? No? Ok then.

Sneak Peek: Lindsay Lohan on UGLY BETTY (Pics)

May 7, 2008 by

As you’ve probably heard by now, Lindsay Lohan will be guesting on the season finale of UGLY BETTY as well as the first few episodes of next season. She’ll be channeling Cady Heron, her character from ‘Mean Girls’ when she plays a schoolyard bully from Betty’s past.

There seems to be a mixed reception to her appearance. I’m kind of on the fence about it. I guess with all the hoopla surrounding her very existence I sometimes forget that she’s an actress. And kind of a good one at that (when she’s not a distracted). I think she has a lot riding on this guest stint. I just hope she doesn’t mess with my show.

Courtesy of ABC comes some of the first pics of Lindsay’s upcoming appearance on the show.

Capping off tonight’s AMERICAN IDOL was David Archuleta with his take on the Elvis classic, “Love Me Tender”.

Were you swooning tonight?

David Archuleta Singing “Stand By Me”

It was David Archuleta’s night on IDOL tonight. The judges were excited about both his performances. First up was the classic, “Stand By Me”.

Will you be standing by Little Archuleta?

Syesha Mercado Singing “Proud Mary” and “A Change is Gonna Come”

Once again I thought my girl Syesha had an amazing night. Her performance of “Proud Mary” was fun and exciting. Check it out.

But her second performance of the night, “A Change is Gonna Come” was strong and emotional. She and Paula were in tears.

I’m convinced that these two performances were good enough to get Syesha through to next week. What do you think?

David Cook Singing “Baba O’Reilly” and “Hungry Like a Wolf” (Watch)

My favorite IDOL wannabe, David Cook, didn’t have his best night tonight. But a bad night for David is still enjoyable – especially when compared to Jason Castro…ouch.

First up is David’s take on “Hungry Like a Wolf” but Duran Duran.

What did you think of David’s two songs tonight?

AMERICAN IDOL Top 4 Perform

American Idol Top 4

I’m certain that I’ve set expectations pretty low in terms of witty commentary around here, but tonight I’m lowering the bar once again. It’s just about midnight and I’m just getting around to watching AMERICAN IDOL tonight. I’m tired and can barely keep my eyes open none the less find something interesting to say. I guess you could say I’m feeling a bit Abdul-ish tonight. The four remaining IDOL wannabes – Syesha Mercado, David Archuleta, Jason Castro and David Cook – will be singing selections from The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

David Cook is kicking off the night with “Hungry Like the Wolf” by Duran Duran. Hmm, something is up with the audio tonight. It’s really hard to hear the backing band and I think David is having the same issues because he’s rushing a bit. If that’s the case he’s really holding it together tonight. It was fun, but not my favorite performance of David’s. I think it lacked a bit of the originality we are used to seeing from David. Simon, Paula and Randy all liked it but none thought it was outstanding.

New! Korbi TV Takes on the World

It’s not everyday that I write a post for the sole purpose of promoting someone else’s TV column.  But then again, it’s not everyday that one of my girls is given her very own column on Zap2It!!

I’m happy to announce that Korbi Ghosh has joined the editorial team at Zap2it.com and she has her own TV column, Korbi TV.

Many of you TV fanatics already know Korbi as part of E!’s Watch With Kristin team, but she’s recently left E! to take over the TV world as its new “IT” girl.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Korbi all you need to know is that she’s a damn funny writer and she’s got all kinds of connections to the secret world of TV.  Girl’s got scoop.  That little cell phone of hers is always buzzing, and ok sometime’s it’s me, but most of the time it’s her exclusive sources sharing TV tidbits that will have us all wanting more.

On a personal note, I just want to say that I am so beyond happy for Korbi.  She’s become a great friend over the past year and I couldn’t be more excited to see her shine in her new role.  She’s going to be kickin’ a little ass so we should all take a step back!

Now go check out KorbiTV.com and tell her GMMR sent you.
