Last night the top 18 dancers took the stage during the second round of competition on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. We were treated to some jazz, hip hop, contemporary and even a little krumping…because really, Wednesday just isn’t Wednesday without a little krump. Am I right?
And SYTYCD isn’t SYTYCD without a little TV Talk podcast. This week Ducky and I, along with our special guests Jess & Murph, break down each of the routines in a way that only we can…with utter honesty and complete foolishness. We’ve got it covered from Mary’s jaw-dropping hideous style to Nigel’s crotch grabbing antics to Mia Michael’s fantastical vocabulary. Oh and yeah, we talk about the dancers too. There’s a lot to chit and chat about because clearly we weren’t watching the same show as the judges last night.
So check out our TV Talk Podcast: SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE Edition…it’s banoodles!
Listen Now: New! So You Think You Can Dance Podcast: Top 18 Perform

Taking over late night hosting duties, Carell grills Kimmel on his new movie Get Smart and things get a little uncomfortable when Carell gets personal. Can you stand it? I can’t wait!

And one…and two…and stretch. Breathe, breathe. And one…and two…and stretch. No, I’m not getting in a morning workout, that’s just my DVR preparing itself for the Thursday night TV extravaganza tonight. Both DVRs are called into duty tonight with so much to choose from. And don’t forget to drink your coffee to help you stay up late for the talk shows because missing Jason Bateman on Letterman and Steve Carell on Jimmy Kimmel would be sinful.
I’m going to be out in Boston meeting with up some GMMR readers (yay!) and then watching tonight’s episode of MY BOYS together along with star Jamie Kaler. It’s going to be a great night.
Here’s just a sample of the TV you have to choose from tonight.
So You Think You Can Dance | 8pm on Fox
Two of the final 18 dancers are eliminated. Flo Rida is performing tonight. Fingers crossed that Shawty makes an appearance wearing perhaps some apple bottom jeans and boots with the fur (with the fur). Rumors of a Shane Sparks group number tonight have me a little more excited than I should be.
Last Comic Standing | 8:30pm on NBC
The mission to discover stand-up talent continues, with guest appraisers Lonny Ross and Keith Powell, both from “30 Rock,” auditioning a crop of comics in Miami.
The Bill Engvall Show | 9pm on TBS
“Ask Your Mother”
Bill decides that he needs to have more involvement in the kids’ lives after he learns they tend to seek advice from Susan rather than him; Paul becomes frustrated with his love life after the woman he is dating refuses to answer his emails. [Win Season 1 of THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW on DVD from GMMR]
My Boys | 9:30pm on TBS
“Dinner Party”
The boys become enamored with the attractive Swedish nanny who was recently hired by Andy and Meredith, resulting in a battle for the nanny’s affections; PJ plays match maker and convinces her friends to go on dates with Kenny and Mike.
Kathy Griffin: My Life of the D-List | 10pm on Bravo
Kathy decides that she needs to get to know her tour manager and her assistant’s assistant better, so she books stand-up comedy performances in their hometowns; Kathy becomes obsessed with awards and sets her sights on winning a Grammy.
Swingtown | 10pm on CBS
“Double Exposure”
Susan tries to mend her friendship with Janet by asking her to help plan a housewarming party, but Trina intrudes with a bloated guest list and an unconventional idea involving fondue dipping.
Fear Itself | 10pm on NBC
“The Family Man”

Three More Seasons of THE OFFICE
June 19, 2008 by Kath Skerry
During his GET SMART media blitz, OFFICE star Steve Carell was quoted as saying that he is planning on sticking with THE OFFICE despite his box office success. Of his role with the show Carell says that,”All of the main cast are signed for three more. Beyond that, I have no idea.”
So yeah, I’m going to go there. Can THE OFFICE sustain itself for three more seasons? Can we take three more seasons of the ‘will they/won’t they/holy man they almost did but didn’t’ of Jim and Pam? Will the work based comedy still have office related scenarios to talk about or will it just become a day in the life of Dunder Mifflin employees? I trust the writers of my favorite show as they shown such brilliance. But you don’t get much more diehard than me, and I’m even questioning if I want to show around for three more years.
Thoughts from other Dunderheads?

2008 Teen Choice Nominees Revealed

I’m WAY too old to be voting (or therefore watching) The 2008 Teen Choice Awards, but that doesn’t mean I can’t be excited that some of GMMR faves have been nominated. Any award show to nominates GOSSIP GIRL 14 times can only be good in my book. And come on, when are you going to ever have an award show where 5 of the 6 nominees for Best Actress in a Drama are from either GOSSIP GIRL or ONE TREE HILL. You’re not going to see that every day.Miley Cyrus, who for tweens everywhere seem to be second coming of Christ (or is that the Jonas Brothers? Wait, is Zac Efron already a has been?) has been tapped to host the always chaotic ceremony which will be aired on Fox on August 4th at 8/7c.
Here’s a complete list of nominees. And because I couldn’t resist, my faves in each category are in bold.

Choice TV Show: Drama
Friday Night Lights

Choice TV Show: Action Adventure
Heroes
Lost
Prison Break

Thanks for being so patient with me this week. I know GMMR has been a bit slow (to say the least). I started my new job on Monday and I’m still adjusting to it all. I’ve been working from home for the past year and a half so I’m used to staying up until 1 or 2am and then when I do get up at 7am or so the next morning, it’s all about GMMR. Things will be back on track soon enough. I’ll be back to my normal (summer) schedule of TV watching and we have some GMMR friends that will be contributing. But I do appreciate your patience while we figure out our new gig.
Ok, now on to some of the highlights of tonight’s TV…

- Wife Swap | 8pm on ABC: The overworked wife of a truck puller swaps families with a wife whose main concerns are her appearance and partying.
- Supernanny | 9pm & 10pm on ABC: Jo helps an industrious couple who strive to give their children everything they need, but are unable to instill much discipline or responsibility in their three spoiled offspring, ages 7, 11 and 14.
- Celebrity Circus | 9:30pm on NBC: Included: Wee Man gives the wheel of death a whirl; Blu Cantrell tangles with the Spanish web; Christopher Knight perches on the high wire.

THE MOLE: Fruit of the Luge
June 17, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Don’t get me wrong, I’m still enjoying THE MOLE, but it’s certainly lost a little something since its last go around a few seasons back. And more than anyone I blame the producers. Ultimately it’s the producers decision as to who gets cast, and they knew exactly what they were doing when the cast this lot of grating players.
Maybe I’m looking back through my rose colored glasses but THE MOLE I remember was much more focused on the game and the natural drama that developed from the interplay between the contestants. This season it seems to be all about fitting in the missions between the bickering. With Nicole’s bitchery, Paul’s obnoxious mouth, and Bobby’s lack of a backbone as just a few of the cast annoyance’s I don’t know who I dislike more.
But we don’t have any choice I guess. We’re stuck with these people. It’s just a shame the producer’s didn’t think highly enough of their own show to go ahead and let the game do the talking.

Battlestar Galactica Recap: “Revelations”

I’m still playing catch up with BATTLESTAR GALATICA and to that end I haven’t seen the mid-season finale. I’m carefully tip-toeing through the internet carefully trying to avoid spoiler land mines.Of course our resident BSG expert, Jo, has seen the finale and she’s all set to talk to you about it. I’ll close my eyes.
I wanted to thank Jo SO much for writing such great recaps throughout the season. She always manages to catch something that slipped right by me. And episode isn’t complete until I read what Jo has to say about it. I hope you all take the time to check out her own site, TV on the Brain.
Title: “Revelations”
GMMR Recapper: Jo
I’d like to revise my favorite episode of Battlestar Galactica from Exodus part 2 to Revelations. I’ve never nearly jumped out of my seat while watching TV before. Never been so mesmerized, never been so astounded, so shocked. This show has had one amazing season finale after another, but nothing could’ve prepared me for this. That’s the great news. The horrible news is we have to wait til 2009 for the last 10 episodes!
Silver lining, this gives us all six more months to convince more people that is the best series on television bar none. Just give me four hours. The three-hour miniseries and season one, episode one, titled “33”. If you can watch all that and still aren’t convinced, I can’t help you.

Tim Russert Dies at 58
June 13, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Today we received the sad news that Meet the Press moderator and NBC political analyst, Tim Russert, passed away this afternoon after collapsing while working in NBC Washington Bureau. Tim was 58 years old.
Colleague and former NBC anchor Tom Brokaw broke the news on the network Friday shortly after 3:40 p.m., saying Russert had just returned from a family vacation in Italy to celebrate the graduation of his son, Luke, from Boston College.
Tim was a strong voice at NBC and in the world of politics. Tim had a way of breaking down political issues so they were accessible to the masses. He wasn’t afraid to challenge belief systems and ask the tough political questions often raised by middle America.
Tim Russert was part of my morning routine as he is a frequent contributor to The Today Show, and I’ll miss his segments and his friendly interactions with Matt Lauer and Meredith Viera.
He leaves behind his wife, author Maureen Orth, and his son, Luke.
