HBO’s TRUE BLOOD: Comic Con Report

True Blood Comic Con

We are just a few minutes away from the Comic Con panel for HBO’s new vampire drama, TRUE BLOOD.

TRUE BLOOD takes place in the not-too-distant future, when, thanks to the invention of synthetic blood, vampires no longer need humans for their fix and can walk freely, if not yet comfortably, among their living counterparts. With their integration into a small Louisiana town causing a stir, a love story ensues between Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin, the X-Men films; Academy Award winner for The Piano), an innocent waitress with the unusual ability to read minds, and vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer, The Starter Wife).

TRUE BLOOD premieres in September but here’s a few notes from today’s Comic Con panel:

GMMR at Comic Con: Day One

After a trip form hell which included long flight delays leading to a canceled flight which led to grabbing another flight and then a two hour car ride in the wee hours of the morning, I’m finally here in San Diego at Comic Con. Or should I say I’m on my way over to Comic Con.  Thanks to Jet Blue and some misplaced luggage, I was out doing a quick shop instead of enjoying a few panels this morning.  I didn’t miss anything big or else I’d be throwing down.

So I’m going to head over to the Convention Center and do a little exploring while waiting up to meet with Rae, Ducky and Thomas.  Later today we are heading do the DEXTER panel and then off to a DEXTER soiree (I hope my clothes get here before then).

Meanwhile, keep up with the latest through my Twitter updates.

And if there are any pics worth snagging, I’ll be sure to post them here.

One last post before I head to the airport.  This one is so good that I just couldn’t get on the plane without first sharing it with you.

2008 will forever go down as the year of Doogie…or Barney…or Dr. Horrible…or maybe just the year of Neil Patrick Harris. See, the world is awesome and Neil Patrick Harris just needs to rule it.

Check out a sneak peek at NPH’s upcoming appearance on Sesame Street as The Shoe Fairy.  Once again our boy is singing his way to the top.

Neil Patrick Harris on Sesame Street

Do you think it’s a good sign that the last post to GMMR before I head to Comic Con is all about Neil Patrick Harris?  Here’s to hoping I can meet the man that tops ‘GMMR’s Must Meet List’.

Comic Con ‘08 - Give Me My Remote

Today’s the day.  In a few hours I’ll be in the air off to sunny San Diego and the mecca of pop culture known as Comic Con.

The next few days are going to seriously kick my ass but in the best way possible. There are so many TV panels over the course of the Con that it’s absolutely impossible to attend them all.  No seriously, it’s impossible. The schedule is such that some really fantastic TV panels are happening right at the same time. As an example of the desperate choices I’m forced to make, on Saturday the panels for “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”, “Lost”, “The Office”, and “Dollhouse” ALL overlap.  A TV lover and blogger should not have to make those tough choices.  It’s just not right.  And even when I do have to make the choice (and in this case it would be “Dollhouse”), there’s no guarantee that I’ll actually be able to attend.  The rooms fill up quickly and the lines are long and my press pass means bupkis when it comes to actually physically getting into the various panels.  So the schedule game plan (which I’ll post on Thursday) which has been in the works in one form or another over the past few months could be shot to hell once I show up.  I’ll bitch, moan, stomp my feet and then find another panel to attend.

In addition to all the panels, I’m going to be covering a number of the press rooms for the shows.  This is going to give me either one-on-one or small roundtable access to some of the creators, writers and cast for some of the best shows represented at Comic Con. There will be some great scoop to share.

Follow GMMR at Comic Con ’08
Rushing from panel to panel, I’m going to do my best to post updates along the way.  It might be a little tough to do full blog posts during the day, but I you can check out the latest photos and my quick thoughts through my Twitter updates.  And for you TV Talk Podcast listeners, Dan and I will try our best to post short podcast updates throughout the day in addition to our general panel podcasts.

Whatever way you choose to follow my TV adventures, I hope that you’ll enjoy it!

If you are a Twitter user then follow me at: http://www.twitter.com/GMMR.  If you aren’t a Twitter user you should go sign up today! (Warning you may become addicted). I’ll be posting larger Twitter badges like the one below at the start of each day. I’ll be updating a lot so make sure you scroll through to get all the latest posts.

    Twitter Updates from Comic Con

      GMMR’S PICS FROM COMIC CON
To the best of my ability, I’ll be posting pictures and videos throughout the day.  It all depends on the downtime I’ll have.  But just as I’ll do with Twitter, at the start of each day I’ll post my Flickr photos to the slideshow.

FRINGE, Comic Con, Explore the Possibilities

Damn Skippy…I’m up to my eyeballs in Comic Con-ness over the next few days, but one of the panels I’m more excited for is the new J.J. Abrams thriller, FRINGE.  I saw an early version of the pilot and I loved it.  And if you’re going to Comic Con then it should be on your must see list.

The FRINGE fun isn’t just at the panel, it’s throughout San Diego…literally.  Check out ExploreThePossibilities.com and register to receive your first clue for a big MOOving  Fringe event that’s going to kick off at the end of the FRINGE panel at Comic Con.  Those attending the panel will be gifted the clue at the end, right before the fun begins. And remember, this is a J.J. Abrams show so don’t think this is going to be any old podunk MOOving event.  I got a little hint at the happenings and I think people will be more than pleased.

Oh and there’s a cool contest for those who participate.  The prize is a little hush hush right now, but I can tell you that it’s banoodles and something I would definitely want (and no it doesn’t involve having Joshua Jackson’s first child…how I wish).

So check out ExploreThePossibilities.com and, well, start exploring the possibilities.

Comments Off on This Week in TV Blog Banter

I’m a little bit late posting this week’s latest in TV blog banter. My apologies. Go check out all the fun things that some of my favorite bloggers are chit chatting about this week.

      • With the Emmy nominations out, Buzz (not surprisingly) had a few rants and raves. (BuzzSugar)
      • GMMR’s summer obsession, SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE, just went from the Top 10 dancers to the Top 8, but not without a little scandal and drama. Listen to what GMMR & Ducky have to say about it in the latest TV Talk Podcast: SYTYCD Edition. (Give Me My Remote)
      • Marcia celebrated the return of Project Runway with a thorough look at the first episode — adult diapers, Oompa Loompas and all. (Pop Vultures)
      • Infatuation is the only word to describe Rae’s feelings about Joss Whedon’s Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and is trying to decide whether she likes Act I or II better while eagerly awaiting the third. (RTVW)
      • All Scooter could think about after watching the season premiere of The Closer was, “Who doesn’t do there business in the shower?” (Scooter McGavin’s 9th Green)
      • With the Emmy nominations finally out, Vance got his butt in gear and put out his Best of TV for the 2007-2008 TV Season. (Tapeworthy)
      • This week, Jace reviewed the laughably bad BBC drama series Bonekickers, from the typically brilliant creators of Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, and was shocked and horrified by just how truly awful it was. (Televisionary)
      • Watch Design Star? Well, Dan wrote a little letter to his favorite contestant — the bald, bearded Colorado native Matt Locke. (TiFaux)
      • It’s TCA Madness on theTVaddict.com, featuring interviews with Wentworth Miller, Joss Whedon, Sarah Wayne Callies and more! (The TV Addict)

      The Office Spinoff and more

Is anyone else’s head spinning with all this roundabout talk of THE OFFICE spinoff that may or may not happen?  Since it was first announced a few months back there’s been enough rumor and speculation to fill up the void left in my heart when Jim didn’t propose in the season finale (I’m still bitter so that’s better left alone). But at yesterday’s NBC TCA panel, NBC head honcho and former OFFICE Executive Producer – Ben Silverman, gave us a clear view of what the new OFFICE franchise would look like.  Nothing but straight answers from this guy…or not.

      Here’s what we know.

I guess watching Ed Helms on THE DAILY SHOW would be no big whoop…if it were 2005.  But having him randomly pop up as a special correspondent last night?  Well that’s just awesome.  Come on Steve Carell, can’t you give ‘Product Pete’ or better yet ‘Even Stephven’ one more go?

We know that the Emmy’s are still two months away but now that the nominations have been revealed we thought we’d give you our opinions on the 60th Annual Emmy Award Nominations.

We cover all of the main categories and discuss the validity of nominees and what it takes to be an Emmy winner. Sit back, have a Red Bull and settle in because we’re talking for almost an hour. And on a personal note I must apologize for my giggle fit towards the end of the podcast. Sometimes when something makes me laugh I just can’t recover (blushes).

BIG BROTHER 10 Recap: What Wine Goes Best With Slop?

      Big Brother 10

Brian’s gone, Jesse is HOH and everyone is in a tizzy.  Those who befriended Brian in his final days seem to be in one camp with the rest of the gang against them.  Jessie is picking up where Brian left off in terms of ego.  People forget that being HOH is a one-week thing.  Treat your minions poorly and it will come back to bite you in the ass.As for what went down in last night’s episode? There was a lot of scheming and making decisions about nominations for Jessie rather than with him. Jessie wants to put up Renny but Libra and April have already decided that it needs to be Steven and Angie. When Renny’s name surfaces Jessie is immediately shot down.  Funny,  I thought it was his week as HOH.  My bad. I think Libra needs to check herself because she’s way too pushy right now and people don’t like strong players who have big (and potentially influential) mouths.

It’s finally here…Comic Con week. I’m leaving on Wednesday for sunny San Diego and 5 days worth of TV and pop culture mayhem.  It’s going be insanely busy but a lot of fun and I’m going to make the most of it. There’s going to be more and more Comic Con news leading up to my departure on Wednesday, but I just had to say a quick YAY for Comic Con Week.

Now, on to tonight’s TV.  There’s plenty on so I don’t want to hear anyone bitching that they couldn’t find anything to watch on TV.  None of that, you hear?

High School Musical: Get in the Picture | 8pm on ABC
High School Musical: Get in the PicutreMove over Zefron and that trashy Gabrielle girl, the new kids here are here and poised to take over. American Gladiators | 8pm on NBC

Wanna Bet?Celebrities (and I use that term very loosely) wager on ordinary people’s ability to perform wild stunts. The celebs obtain money for charity if they win the bets. Tom Green, Sherri Sheppard, George Takei and Harland Williams are the judges in the opener. Famed British TV personalities, Ant & Dec, are the hosts.

Nashville Star | 9pm on NBC
Nashville Star The country music reality show continues on. I’m not really sure what’s happening tonight but I suppose people will be singing, others will be judging and someone will be going home, right?

The Closer | 9pm on TNT
      MeeVee Recommends“Speed Bump”
A convicted killer out on parole is killed in a hit and run, and Brenda investigates if it was merely an accident or someone seeking revenge, while at home she deals with Fritz after he is laid up with an injured back.

The Mole | 10pm on ABC
The MoleThe next mission tests the memory of the five remaining contestants, who are also reunited with loved ones from home. Good gracious, do we actually get to meet the woman who agreed to marry Paul?  She has to be equally annoying or a saint.

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog (Act III) – Live

Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog (Act III)

Will Dr. Horrible show Bad Horse that he is evil enough for admittance into the Evil League of Evil?  Will Penny be able to save the homeless shelter?  Will Captain Hammer ever find a mirror he doesn’t like? Is the anchor woman wearing any underwear?

And so the tale is told.  The third and final installment of DR. HORRIBLE’S SING-ALONG BLOG went live this morning on www.drhorrible.com and iTunes. All three acts are now available for your viewing pleasure, but only for a short window of time so check them out now, or go and download them from iTunes.

For those of you who have become fans of Joss Whedon’s internet muscial, I wanted to let you know that there will be a DR. HORRIBLE panel on Saturday at Comic Con as well as a midnight viewing and sing-along.  I hope I can attend at least one of them.  Fingers crossed!

      Project Runway Recap: Episode 1

      July 18, 2008 by
Filed under Project Runway, Project Runway Recaps

Who cares if I’m already behind on PROJECT RUNWAY?  No matter.  I’ve got my girl Jennifer Eolin, my hands down favorite PROJECT RUNWAY blogger breaking down the new season and sharing her 5 cents (because really, what can two cents by you these days) on the new designers and the first challenge of Season 5.

So for the first time this season (ok it’s only the first episode but go with me here), I present…Jennifer’s Runway. Below is only an excerpt so make sure to head over to Jennifer’s Project Runway recap for a look at each designer and then the full competition.
      Jennifer’s Runway…

Jennifer Eolin (http://www.myspace.com/jennifereolin) “…After all 16 of these (insipid) people arrive at the Atlas apartments, they saunter up to the roof to meet Sir Tim Gunn and Heidi Klum. Both Heidi and Tim look rested and ready for a new season. Tim Gunn tells them: “You are the most diverse group of designers we’ve ever had on Project Runway.” (And while he says this, the camera is on a white girl. Swift.)

They party on the roof and start it off with Tim popping a champagne cork that flies off the building and probably kills a cabbie in mid-town. (Tim Gunn, on the roof, with a champagne cork! It’s the new Clue!) All the designers talk and Kenley busts Blayne about his tan. Blayne says: “I’m happy and tan!” Poor Blayne. He’s truly the walking example of “Ignorance is bliss” isn’t he?

The next day, the designers are roused at 4am by Tim Gunn. Jennifer answers the door in her towel and wishes she had brushed her teeth. (Someone has told her that he’s not on her team, right??) The designers go on a walk with Tim Gunn (and the walk is peppered with “Where are we going?” soundbites which are annoying as hell cuz duh! We know you don’t know! THAT you don’t have to tell us!) and arrive at Gristedes, the grocery store from the challenge in Season 1, Episode 1. Also at Gristedes is the ever glam, Austin Scarlett. He floats across the street in a cloud of fabulous and joins the group on the street.

      Project Runway: Austin and Tim

(I never thought I’d say this, but next to Austin, Gunn looks butch…)

Continue reading at Jennifer’s MySpace blog. (And if you leave her a comment tell her that GMMR sent ya)
