SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE: Top 12 Perform
July 10, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Filed under So You Think You Can Dance, TV News, Twitch
It’s been quite a while since I’ve done a full write up of the SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE performances. Usually Dan and I watch together and then share our thoughts in a podcast. But it doesn’t look like a podcast is happening this week (wah wah…I blame Dan and so should you. Really, give him hell). I kid, of course. But my laziness doesn’t. With two dances per couple the show felt really long and I’m kind of dreading writing about each, so I best get to it.
Before we get to the dancers, let me just make two quick comments about the judges. Mary, I love you, but please, please stop wearing off the shoulder tops! You are sassy but they just aren’t age appropriate and they do nothing for you. As a friend I thought someone should just tell you. And Mia – keep doing what you are doing. You are looking fantastic lately. Loved the fedora. Ok, enough of that.
Chelsie & Mark started off the show with a Salsa by Alex DiSilva. One of my favorite couples in the competition, but I can’t say this one blew me away. I found the music incredibly boring and never realy got into the piece. Chelsie looked all kinds of sexy in this number, and being a Latin dancer she was definitely in her element. Mark not so much, but I thought he more than held his own next to Chelsie.

Two more dancers are going home tonight to being the competition from 12 to the top 10. I’m not betting woman, ok I am, and I’m putting all my chips on Thayne and Comfort going home tonight. The series begins with 12 dog owners, along with their pets, moving in together and competing in their first challenge. Later, the judges eliminate one dog and its owner from the competition. [GMMR: I have NO desire to watch this show, but I listed it as an excuse to share these adorable pictures of my 2 favorite dogs, Riley Milo – and to pimp my friend’s dogwear company, Mascot. If you’re a dog owner definitely check them out!]
Last Comic Standing | 8:00pm on NBC
The 12 stand-up finalists must prove their quick-wittedness in a boxing ring. There, the comic hopefuls square off in three lightning rounds featuring punchy one-liners, zingers, disses and comebacks. Also: a Top 10 ranking of the series’ best jokes.
The Bill Engvall Show | 9pm on TBS

Get Ready for the Scorching New Season of BURN NOTICE
July 9, 2008 by Kath Skerry
I’m going to be honest here. I was a little hot and cold during last year’s first season of BURN NOTICE. I was a big fan out the gate but as the summer progressed I found myself putting it off and watching other things, and before you knew it I had TiNo’d almost the entire season. Feeling overwhelmed I kind of gave up on BURN NOTICE and moved on. But then a few months ago I started catching repeats on USA, and once again I was drawn into the enterprising world of Michael Westen and his crazy but lovable cohorts. Having caught up on season one I am happy to report that I’m back on board for season 2, just in time for the season premiere tomorrow night at 10/9c on USA.
I got a sneak peek at the first two episodes and I think you’re really going to dig ’em. The writers really found their groove towards the end of last season and I’m happy to report that they are still in the zone in season 2. The action is, as always, fantastic, but its the ironic, dry humor that really pulls me in. And once bothered by what I thought were Michael’s gratuitous voice overs, I now think the writers have found a way to use them to move the story along while also adding some color.
I want to be careful not to spoil too much of “Breaking and Entering”, the first episode of the season because I want you to check it out for yourself, but I will tell you that the show picks up right where it left off last season – with Michael pulling into the mystery van (a la K.I.T.T.) per the instructions of the mysterious sexy voice who has claimed to have burned him. But it’s not long before the action begins and Michael is forced into action with the promise of meeting his new adversary, Carla – played by the uber hot and uber talented Tricia Helfer of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA fame.
THE OFFICE Webisodes: Kevin’s Loan
July 9, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Filed under Brian Baumgartner, Craig Robinson, Leslie David Baker, Oscar Nunez, The Office
Need an OFFICE fix? Yeah, me too. Well you and me, we’re in luck because the new OFFICE webisodes premiere tomorrow, July 10th on NBC.com. NBC was kind enough to send me a screener of the first four ‘sodes and I must say that I really loved them. I was a fan of the last OFFICE webisodes but this time around I think the storyline is stronger and pretty damn funny.
In “Kevin’s Loan”, Kevin (Brian Baumgartner) pursues a unique solution in an effort to pay back his looming gambling debts. Helping him (or not) along the way are Oscar (Oscar Nunez), Stanley (Leslie David Baker) and Darryl (Craig Robinson).
Here’s a sneak peek at the webisodes and then a little behind the scenes chit chat with the cast.
And may I just say…kudos to Dwight Schrute for pulling off the best prank in Dunder Mifflin history by convincing Holly that Kevin was mentally challenged. I know he’s not, but my perception of Kevin has forever changed. “This is a button.“
BIG BROTHER 10 Cast Revealed
July 9, 2008 by Kath Skerry
It doesn’t seem that long ago that Adam “Baller” Jasinski was named winner of BIG BROTHER 9. Hell, the nightmare about his creepy eyes are still very real. But BB9 is over and it’s time to meet the cast of BIG BROTHER 10. Yup, BIG BROTHER is back with an all new season beginning Sunday, Juy 13th.
CBS has revealed that it’s going back old school for this season. There are no exes in the house, no secret partnerships or alliances, just the true story of 13 strangers picked to live in a house .and have their lives taped to see what…wait, wrong show – but you get the idea.
We’ve got everything from a Hooter’s waitress, to a 22 year old body builder, to a 75 year old ex-Marine, and yes, even a gay cowboy. Oh it’s going to get interesting. Here’s your first look at the houseguests that will soon enough be eating slop, standing on the chopping block, and playing for the golden power of veto.
Following the premiere of BIG BROTHER 10 on July 13th at 8pm, the show will air three times a week: Tuesdays at 9pm, Wednesdays at 8pm, and the live eviction on Sundays at 8pm.I watched all of last season, but to say I was disappointed was a bit of an understatement. But I think I’m back! I’m ready to give it another shot. Just please don’t bring Baller (or for that matter, Natalie) back into the house!
So whatcha thinking? Will you be giving BIG BROTHER 10 a shot?
Oh, and for the sake of my sanity, I will NOT be purchasing the 24/7 live feeds, but if you will be and want to contribute to GMMR’s BIG BROTHER 10 spoiler page, just drop me a line and let me know.

I hope you’re going to take it easy today, because you’re going to need your energy for the onslaught of game shows that will be making their way to your TV tonight. Ok, maybe you won’t be participating, but that still doesn’t mean you won’t be exuding energy cheering everyone else on.
For me it’s all about WIPEOUT (you know I love it) and CELEBRITY FAMILY FEUD (which I’m not loving, but will tonight when some of the cast of THE OFFICE shows up to do their thing).
Wipeout | 8pm on ABC | Series Premiere
Contestants include an ice-cream scooper, a nanny, a fitness model, a performance artist, a funeral-home counselor, a tae-kwon-do instructor, a registered nurse and a bartender. Obstacles featured: Donut Run, Crazy Beams, Pole Vault.
Celebrity Family Feud | 8pm on NBC | Series Premiere
Cast members from “The Office” and “American Gladiators” face off, while the “My Name Is Earl” cast is split up to battle each other.
The Secret Life of the American Teenager | 8pm on ABC Family
Grace struggles to decide whether she should forgive Jack, and Ricky and Adrian try to figure out their relationship. Meanwhile, Amy experiences morning sickness, and Ben hears a rumor about her.
I Survived a Japanese Gameshow | 9pm on ABC | Series Premiere
Contestants ride tricycles on a conveyor belt above a pool filled with icy water, with the belt’s speed being controlled by their stationary-bike-riding teammates (the faster they peddle, the slower the conveyor belt goes).
America’s Got Talent | 9pm on NBC
Week 4 of talent showcases, as judged by David Hasselhoff, Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne.
Hell’s Kitchen | 9pm on Fox | Season Finale
As the fourth season closes, the two remaining contestants square off in their final dinner service before Chef Ramsay decides which of them will run his Los Angeles restaurant.
Deadliest Catch | 9pm on Discovery
The Northwestern collides with the ice pack; the Wizards departs with a rookie and an irritable crew; Captain Phil’s health problems makes his future with the crew uncertain, so they prepare to handle the ship on their own.
Kathy Griffin is…Not Nicole Kidman | 9pm on Bravo
In her second one-hour assault on celebrity culture, Kathy Griffin takes on American Idol stars Ryan Seacrest and Clay Aiken, the powerful talk show diva Oprah, and household names such as Barbara Streisand, Dick Clark and Ozzy Ozborne. [GMMR: I know this isn’t new, but if you’re a fan of Kathy Griffin or at least our celebrity-obsessed culture, then you must check this out tonight. So frakkin’ funny.]
Flipping Out | 10pm on Bravo
When Jeff becomes doubtful that his staff members are working hard, he decides to investigate the situation by installing hidden cameras in the office to monitor exactly what his employees are doing whenever he isn’t there to supervise them.
Tori & Dean: Inn Love | 10pm on Oxygen
Tori and Dean celebrate son Liam’s birthday with a party, but Tori wants a bigger bash than their planned backyard barbecue. On the guest list: Loni Anderson, Denise Richards, Carmen Electra and Zachary Quinto. [GMMR: Ok, let me explain…I don’t know if this is a new episode or a repeat (although it was listed as new). I’ve never seen this show before and I don’t plan on watching tonight, but as someone who learned most major life lessons from 90210 I thought it was important to support Tori. I’m still bitter than her dad left her crumbs when he passed…he was loaded. So in support of Donna Martin, check out her little show tonight. Plus, the uber sexy Zachary Quinto of HEROES makes an appearance. Bonus. If only David Silver would show.]
What shows are going to be lucky enough to make it on to YOUR TV tonight? Anything you’re really looking forward to?

The HEROES webisodes don’t premiere until July 14th, but here’s a sneak peek at what we’ll be seeing next week. I don’t know about you, but I’m more than ready to have HEROES back on Monday nights.

The Osbourne’s are Back…Uh Oh?!
July 7, 2008 by Kath Skerry
When Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, their kids and their litter of pups decided to do a reality show a few years back no one predicted that they would be break out in such a big way. Back in 2002 Ozzy and his brood took over pop culture. From bobbleheads, to boardgames, to people randomly shrieking “Sharooooooon”, the Osbourne’s were everywhere.
But then people stopped watching. The shtick got old. For the family and for those of us watching. Kelly started (well at least tried to start) a music career. Young Jack was plagued with addiction issues (which thankfully he has taken on and is dealing with). And Sharon and Ozzy just weren’t enough to sustain a full show, no matter how funny they were to watch.
Today comes word that The Osbourne’s are back. Their reality show as we knew it won’t be returning, but the family will be returning to TV in a new variety show for Fox. According to Variety,
The plan is to blend musical perfs by the Osbournes and others with comedy sketches as well as gameshow, audience participation and out-of-studio taped elements. One idea being kicked around is for a segment dubbed “The Osbournes Meet the Osbournes,” in which Ozzy and Co. spend time with another Osbourne clan, Darnell said.
The variety show angle is more in line with Sharon’s latest gig as judge on the UK’s “The X Factor” and here in the U.S. on “America’s Got Talent”.
I can’t say that I’m going to be busting down the door to watch this one. With the exception Ozzy’s legendary music career, I never thought the family unit were all that talented outside of their gripes with one another.
Can Fox do better? Can The Osbourne’s? Is more likely that this will be a breakout hit or another crash and burner from Fox?

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a nice long weekend (well at least those of you in the good ‘ol U.S. of A.). I had a fantastic 4th of July weekend, spent with family and friends. I can’t say I watched much TV, but that’s ok because it’s a new week, right?
And speaking of new…this is the very first GMMR post on my brand new Mac Book Pro. Yes, I have officially made the switch from a PC to a Mac and I couldn’t be more excited. Still getting the hang of this new machine, and I haven’t scratched the surface of what I can do, but I just got it yesterday so there’s plenty of time to play around and get acquainted with it.
I’m still without a good photo editor tool (hence why not all of the programs listed have images next to them). I’m just excited to finally have a computer again. And now that I do, let’s put this puppy to work.
Check out what might be worthy of your tunage tonight.
American Gladiators | 8pm on NBC
It’s the vigor of youth vs. the wisdom of the aged in the ladies heat, as a 20-year-old college student tries to put up a Grade-A battle against a 52-year-old investment manager. In the men’s round, a dolphin trainer rumbles with a media director.
The Bachelorette | 8pm on ABC | 2-hour Season Finale
In the fourth-season finale, DeAnna has a choice to make between the two finalists after taking her two suitors to Grand Bahama Island and home to Georgia to meet her family. And immediately following the finale, DeAnna and her two finalists discuss the challenges of the contest and the rose ceremony that ended it. Also: British Bachelor Matt Grant (2008) and his intended, Shayne Lamas, give an update on their relationship.
Army Wives | 8pm on Lifetime
Trevor is uneasy with his new hero status; Frank is concerned about Denise, who is enamored with her new motorcycle; and Joan’s maternity-leave replacement arrives.
Nashville Star | 9pm on NBC
The eight remaining acts perform, and two are eliminated. [GMMR: Sorry but this show is officially off my radar. I kind of lost interest. I didn’t find the talent that compelling and I’m really not a fan of judge John Rich…he just irks me.]
Weeds | 10pm on Showtime
After a week sitting shiva, Nancy asks Andy to accompany her on another “mission”; Celia’s flirting with Captain Till intensifies; Doug surprises the Botwins by dropping in on them at their new digs.
Secret Diary of a Call Girl | 10:30pm on Showtime
After a week sitting shiva, Nancy asks Andy to accompany her on another “mission”; Celia’s flirting with Captain Till intensifies; Doug surprises the Botwins by dropping in on them at their new digs.
