SYTYCD Goes Contemporary with Twitchington/Katee & Joshua/Will & Jessica

Mia Michaels…how I like the things that you do. Contemporary isn’t for everyone, but it’s by far my favorite genre on SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE. And what Mia Michaels does as a choreographer continues to floor me.
Mia had two routines tonight. Both Contemporary. My favorite of which was performed the hell out of my Stephen “Twitch” Boss and Kherington Payne. It was out of control and a dance that I know will be remembered for a long time to come.

Preparing to sit in a ton of traffic this holiday weekend? Make sure you download the TV Talk Podcast. We are known for making long car rides that much more enjoyable. And if you are a fan of SYTYCD, then you can sit in a ton of traffic because we have another podcast just for that show coming out today.
We threatened to never do another TV Talk Podcast if you didn’t flock to iTunes and leave us comments… well I’m happy to report that you love us as much as we love you! Thanks to your generosity, we are back and this week’s podcast is a lot of fun!
I this podcast…
We revise our thoughts on Swingtown now that we’re both completely caught up (and loving it), we talk about Ducky’s chat with Tricia Helfer (Battlestar Galactica) and her stint on Burn Notice plus some scoop on her new Fox pilot Inseparable.
Next we tackle one of the most talked about Fall pilots, J.J. Abrams’ Fringe! Ducky and I review the plot, the mystery and the hotness that is Josh Jackson but don’t worry we don’t spoil anything for you! We’re good like that!
Then it’s time for some listener emails because you guys are cramazing!
Who wants to talk Comic-Con? No? Tough because we run down the shows that will be in San Diego and vent our frustrations over the scheduling. If you’re going to be in town for Comic-Con and you’re a reader or listener, let us know… we’d love to see you!
Before wrapping up this week we have a little fun with our TV version of F, Marry, Kill! That’s right, we each pick one we’d boink, one we’d marry and one we’d go Dexter Morgan on. Join in the fun and leave us some comments about who you’d F, Marry and Kill based on our choices. We’ll read some of them on the air in our next podcast.

THE SECRET LIFE OF THE AMERICAN TEENAGER Isn’t For Everyone…Especially Me
July 2, 2008 by Kath Skerry

I really debated whether or not I was going to share my thoughts on THE SECRET LIFE OF THE AMERICAN TEENAGER. To be honest, I was afraid that the issues I had with the show were going to be misconstrued and the debate would turn to issues of religion and morality which really had nothing to do with why I didn’t care for the show. But I had quite a few emails asking me about this one so I thought I would just go for it and hope for the best. Before I go any further let me first say this: to each his own. This is just my personal opinion on the show, and let face it…I’m not the demographic for this show to begin with. So that’s that.
THE SECRET LIFE OF THE AMERICAN TEENAGER premiered last night on ABC Family but I got to check it out last week via an advanced screener. I was actually excited about this one. Hello, I love me some Molly Ringwald. But to say I was disappointed is a bit too easy. I was borderline angry.
I found the premiere episode to be incredibly cliched and so predictable that as a connoisseur of fine television (and ok, a lot of tasteless reality TV) I was almost offended. Offended not by the subject matter or what the creator’s were trying to convey, but offended in the obvious and unimaginative way that it was done. I felt like I was watching an after school special with funding provided jointly by Planned Parenthood and the Catholic Church. The writers worked tirelessly to provide every single angle on the subject of teen sexuality that it came off as obvious, bland and almost preachy.
About Last Night: Wiped Out on a Japanese Game Show

It’s summer, and I think you’ve realized by now that I’m not watching a ton of TV this time of year. I’m still watching enough, but I’m not nearly as much as I would, say in the Fall. Last night I watched only two shows. Ok, technically only one and a half because I didn’t finish watching the other. What? I’m old. I need sleep.
Check it out.
WIPEOUT
This is the kind of show that you either love or hate. I personally love it up one side of the slippery stairs and down the other. It’s just a blast to watch. I find the commentary by John Anderson and John Henson laugh out loud funny, and the contestants spectacular to watch. It’s almost morbid, because as I mentioned last week, these people have got to be getting hurt. The way their faces slam into some of these obstacles…I can’t believe they are still able to stand none the less move on in the competition.
I SURVIVED A JAPANESE GAME SHOW
I can’t say that I even made it half way through this show last night. It was a combination of me being exhausted and a little bit bored. This show didn’t really grab me last week but I thought I would give it another shot this week. And watching only half isn’t really giving it a shot so I saved it on the old DVR to watch later tonight (or more likely Thursday). Maybe it gets better.
Did you watch either of these shows last night? What did you think? What else did YOU watch last night? It’s time to share, kids!
What to Watch…Wednesday, July 2, 2008

Wondering what to watch this Wednesday? It’s most reality, but it’s summer so you know that. I think I only have two shows set to DVR tonight, but with 2 podcasts to do, I think that’s about all I can handle.
Here’s a little taste of what’s on tonight.
So You Think You Can Dance | 8pm on Fox
Tonight the Top 7 girls and the Top 7 guys perform for the judges and your votes. [GMMR: This show is the highlight of my week and I can’t wait to settle in and watch it tonight. Ducky’s coming over to watch it and do a little podcasting, so even better!]
Supernanny | 9pm on ABC: Jo helps a couple who keep their five children, ages 4 through 9 (including 6-year-old twins), so busy with a myriad of activities that there’s not much time for discipline or family outings.
Baby Borrowers | 9pm on NBC: Two of the girls decide to become working moms. Later, the teens return the infants to their parents, who give the pseudo moms and dads their first review. [GMMR: I’ll pass on this one, but I wanted to let you all know that it was on since I got a few inquiries about it.
Celebrity Circus | 10pm on NBC: Celebs learn and perform circus acts in the opener of this reality-competition series hosted by Joey Fatone. [GMMR: Please raise your hand (and by that I mean leave a comment) if you’re watching this show.]
She’s Got the Look | 10pm on TV Land: The five remaining contestants prepare to act in a commercial with a surprise guest. Also: Challenge winners are rewarded with visits from their families and friends.
Comic Con ’08 Live Preview | 8:30pm on G4: I really don’t know what to expect, and since the links to the show info over at the G4 site are broken (how frustrating!) I can’t seem to get any more info. But I’m going to check it out all the same. It’s officially Comic Con month and I’m officially excited.
Are you in a sharing mood? What will YOU be watching tonight?
Shannen Doherty To Head Back to Bev9er?
July 2, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Let the cougar-fights begin. Rumors are swirling that Shannen Doherty has been approached to join the cast of the all new 90210 debuting on The CW next year. According to Ausiello, Shannen’s interest is piqued but “she wants to know what the story is going to be first.” And then there are those pesky dollar signs to deal with.
I’m sure this news bring such joy to Doherty’s former co-stars and current new 90210 residents, Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling. And if you didn’t pick up on the sarcasm then I’d venture to guess that you were born after say 1990. The history of in-fighting and animosity is legendary, especially between Garth and Doherty who had more than a few verbal altercations, and even some physical ones back in their ‘prentending to be teens’ years. I’m hands down Team Garth, and always have been. But to her credit, when asked about rumors of Doherty’s involvement Jennie has said publicly that “A lot of time has passed, and I’m a big girl. I’d have no problem with her coming on the show.” Well, I’m not sure I buy that, but I do know that Jennie is now a mature woman and I don’t doubt that she would handle herself well if problems did arise between the two. But I don’t think they’ll be hanging out in each other’s trailers in between scenes.
As for my take on Doherty’s involvement in the show? I could take her or leave her. I know this news will excite some but I question why. Is it more for what Brenda Walsh could bring to the show or the potential drama between Doherty and well, anyone she encounters?

Ducky is coming over to do a little podcasting tomorrow night. In addition to our SYTYCD podcast, I think we can manage to squeak out a quick good ‘ol TV Talk Podcast. But I’m not sure what we should be talking about. So I turn it over to you my faithful readers. What would you like us to talk about this week?
You know we love to hear from you, so if you’d like to be part of the podcast leave a comment on this post, or follow the instructions below to give us a ring and leave us a voice comment that might be answered during the podcast.
(And I know I am a HORRIBLE person that should be shot but we are going to have to table a BSG discussion for at least another week. The show doesn’t come back until 2009 so I have some time. Sorry).
Anything else is fair game.

What to Watch…Tuesday, July 1, 2008

Um, when did it become July? Ok, I guess probably at midnight, but still…this summer is flying by. And that’s not a bad thing. Most of the best summer TV has still yet to premiere, and the end of summer means the return of TV (as long as those damn actors don’t strike).
Still without a computer (cue violin). Fingers crossed that I can get my hands on a new Mac Book Pro later this week.
In the meantime, here’s a quick and dirty lunch time update for you all as to what’s on tonight (also known as ‘Tuesday TV Game Show Night’)
Wipeout | 8pm on ABC | Series Premiere
Obstacles featured include Slippery Stairs, Foamy Killer Surf, Big Balls, Dreadmill Door Jam and Sweeper Sack.
Celebrity Family Feud | 8pm on NBC | Series Premiere
Vincent Pastore’s crew takes on the gang from “The Girls Next Door.” Later, Kathie Lee Gifford’s clan challenges Duane “Dog” Chapman’s pack.
I Survived a Japanese Gameshow | 9pm on ABC | Series Premiere
“Human claws” try to place stuffed animals in a chute (their movements are controlled by teammates); contestants must place packages in mail chutes while being buffeted by wind from a powerful fan and objects thrown at them by opponents.
America’s Got Talent | 9pm on NBC
Judges David Hasselhoff, Piers Morgan and Sharon Osbourne continue to rate an array of eclectic entertainers in Week 3 of competition. The top acts advance to the “Vegas Callbacks.”
Hell’s Kitchen | 9pm on Fox
The two finalists visit chef Gordon Ramsay’s New York City restaurant, where they must prepare their signature dishes—to be judged by executive chefs of Ramsay’s restaurants around the world. Back in L.A., they begin their final challenge.
Deadliest Catch | 9pm on Discovery
Captain Phil heads to the hospital; Murray does his best to take the helm of the Cornelia Marie, but the other ships face even greater difficulties as the Northwestern is destabilized, Wizard springs a leak and Greenhorn Moi is disqualified.
Flipping Out | 10pm on Bravo
Noticing that work around the house is not getting done, Jeff becomes increasingly suspicious of his workers and will not listen to reason even from Ryan, who has a different approach when it comes to handling employees.
THE MOLE or a Llama’s Ass?
July 1, 2008 by Kath Skerry
Filed under The Mole, TV News
All together now…”We’re Paul free in van #2″! Sing it with me!
The contestants on THE MOLE continue to grate me, and with one of my favorite contestants gone it gets more and more difficult to watch the show. At least I still have Craig.
But before get to last night’s ousting, let’s talk missions.
Do You Trust Me?
Unlike other recent tasks, the first challenge of the night involved little physicality but relied solely on the players ability to trust each other. In a game where trust can mean elimination, this was not an easy task. The players were chained together in the cold of night with a key and exemption card within reach of only one player at a time. The team had to decide to let a player reach the key and free himself which adds money to the pot, or risk letting the player grab the exemption instead. One by one the players convinced the other contestants to let them get the key and go inside by the warm fire. With each attempt the other players risked that player stealing the elimination. In the end it was just Mark, they key and the exemption card. He struggled with whether or not to take it, and in the end he decided not to ruin his social collateral by taking the exemption. The team banked the cash and everyone was happy. (Well, except for Mark who is still bitching like a baby about his journal being destroyed…get over it).
