Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep…

GMMR Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep

A few quick and quite random thoughts before I drift off to sleep.  And to answer your inevitable question – no, you won’t get these next few minutes back so you might as well stop reading now.

– I’m going to bed an emotional wreck. I blame Oprah and Ellen. I caught up on both talk shows tonight and both got the boo hoo crybaby in me going. Oprah was first to get the tears flowing when she once again showcased the story of Charice Pempengco, that insanely talented 16-year old singer from the Philippines that was first discovered on YouTube.  The little girl can seriously sing and I got all kinds of emotional watching her dreams unfold in front of her (cue the cheesy violins, I know) . When Charice said it was her dream to sing with Celine Dion and then broke out into “My Heart Will Go On” I thought for sure that Oprah had Celine waiting back stage to  join the young girl in a duet.  But sadly Celine is on tour and couldn’t be there.  But that didn’t stop her from appearing via satellite to invite Charice to perform with her next week at Madison Square Garden.  It was quite a moment.  Hell, ever Oprah was tearing up (but don’t worry, it wasn’t the ugly cry.).   All hail Queen Oprah.

If you don’t know who Charice is you should, or at least you will.  But for now, here is a clip from her appearance on OPRAH today, and as an encore (because you’ll want one), a clip from Charice’s first appearance on OPRAH.

But Oprah wasn’t done. She then showcased another video. This one from BRITAIN’S GOT TALENT. I’ve seen it before and I’m convinced that I actually posted it on GMMR but I can’t seem to find it. Anyway, try to avoid the emotional sucker punch courtesy of Andrew Johnston

– The aftermath of my breakdown from OPRAH continued as I watched ELLEN. I’m a sucker for weddings and on today’s show Ellen DeGeneres showed a beautiful montage of her recent wedding to Portia de Rossi. The images were set to Josh Rodin’s “Today” which he performed at their wedding. I cry at weddings…sue me. But I must mention something that I found quite strange. In a segment with her wedding planner, Mindy Weiss, it was mentioned that Ellen & Portia originally planned a wedding for about 200 guests but later decided that they wanted a smaller, more intimate affair. Maybe that’s something they should have decided before the invites went out! Yup, the wedding planner had to call each guest an uninvite them to the wedding. Have you ever heard of such a thing? Those 20 or so people who made the cut should feel damn lucky. Congrats to Ellen & Portia.

– Did anyone else read the reports that Joshua Jackson showed up unexpectedly at the theater where Katie Holmes is rehearsing for her Broadway play? Supposedly he came armed with a big bouquet of flowers. There was some speculation that Josh stated he was worried about Katie and he link to Scientology, but I think it’s all nonsense. I think he was just catching up with an old friend. But guys….Pacey and Joey were together today!!! Just the thought of that makes me happy.

– I’ll let you in on a secret…I’m completely overwhelmed by the thought of having to write about the premiere of FRINGE. Something tells me the next TV Talk Podcast with GMMR & Ducky might have a new segment – “Two Idiots Talk Fringe”. But I’m going to write about it in the morning because I really want to chat about it with all of you (which is my nice way of saying don’t comment on FRINGE here and you best be prepared to talk about your thoughts when I do get around to posting it – I’m such a demanding blogger, aren’t I?)

Ok off to bed…I want to be at the office early tomorrow so I have about 5 hours until I have to wake up. Night, night.

Wow on all fronts. I made it through the Charice video dry eyed although her talent is huge, but then… Andrew singing Webber’s Pie Jesu, well, weepy mess. I believe it is the most compelling piece of music Webber ever wrote.

I love how Youtube has made the world so small we can reach out and touch all the corners.

    Thanks GMMR.

I have been disappointed by Oprah and refuse to watch her show until she allows a Woman “Sarah Palin” on her show. She does not have to get polictical and set ground rules but I think that she should help “lift” up women as well as her race. She says she doesn’t want to make show polictical; however, “Oprah” is a brand name …..she is the show. I’m sorry to ramble, I am just a disappointed viewer….and will refrain from viewing Oprah until I hear that Gov. Palin will be scheduled to be on Oprah

Great, now I’m crying at work!

(Also, as a side note, I don’t think Palin is really doing a lot of help to “lift” up women, but that’s another issue…..)

Uh oh…political talk. Let’s shut this down before we go any further down the road. Let’s talk TV? Ha ha

[GMMR Edited: Please don’t make personal remarks about another commenter. Let’s move on from the political. There is place for that and it’s not here]

    Carry on! 🙂
